Movies & TV 2015 Election

Hey, I've got to say how happy I am for @ChristianRau and @AnkitSharma .... and for me its personally just great to have a team of moderators again.

@ChristianRau but people seems unaware to this page, noticed that while going through comments in nomination phase.

@AnkitSharma Hmm, well I guess the 1st requirement for a moderator is that they want to do it, so they have to nominate themselves

And if you have to pick a B-movie, you should at least pick one where the lead actress looks stunning. Haha.

Which I felt was footed on the same (IMHO incorrect) assumption that encouraging meta participation meant forcing users to go there. But nevermind, everyone is entitled to his own opinion, even though I'm not entirely sure what to make of the "pandering for votes" part.

@Paulster2 He's probably talking about himself in 3rd person again, does it all the time. :P

I don't think the questionnaire outright asks it, so here's one for the candidates: What do you think the major problems are in M&TV? [And if you do think it has major problems, how dare you?! :P]

@atticae ... actually, if I read the mod rules right, two of the three mods can have the third one kicked.

I'm not saying we should promote it just for the sake of its own. Of course meta is only to be used when needed. But once it is needed, the activity is definitely needed, too. I guess a better phrasing would maybe be to increase meta awareness. Often when a problem arises, people either don't know meta exists, or if they do, there are not enough other people who know/care about it to make a reasonable discussion.

In any case, I'm glad you agree that mods shouldn't make up rules. I just hope your realism doesn't stop you from trying to increase meta activity should you get elected. I don't want you to say "Well, in reality mods decide everything anyway, so I'll just do that." :D

Saying meta activity is not required because you can't outvote the mods anyway is, well, pessimistic at best.

@Paulster2 Okay, I find it hard to speak for other SE sites because I simply am not as involved with them as I am here. But here on M&TV I can't remember seeing the mods deciding something on their own that wasn't fairly clear-cut already. And I would hope it stays that way, because that would be totally outside of their mandate.

The mods don't make any decision about what is off-topic or not on their own.

The mods only enforce what we as the community decide, so it's actually the community who takes care of problems in meta by discussing them and setting rules through a vote.

And that's why a solid meta participation is important.

I think the blog could be a really good chance to promote meta discussions.

@AnkitSharma Especially when most of the questions get answered in a similar way anyway. Seriously, a new user doesn't understand the rules, two mods disagree, instaclose powers? What are you possibly gonna say to this in an election questionaire?

@ChristianRau to me questionnaires is lesser important that user stats

Its a community election and community should know what the nominee gonna do after getting elected.

@AnkitSharma I suspect most people won't read it anyway.

And afterall, you just need a big ID-fan to read my questionaire to be immediately objected. But what should I say, I just can't shut up when it's about ID questions.

@atticae Indeed, more than 50 people voting after 2 hours? Now try to get more than 5 people into a meta discussion after 2 days!

I like movies. When I see a movie, I always look at the movie from what angle the movie was created. This was SciFi space opera stuff ... how does it fare against others of the same? I think it holds it own and then some.

I liked the movie. Probably give it about 3.5/5 stars. The only thing I really didn't like about it was the sound track ... it really doesn't gel with the movie. I think it would go over better in 3D than it would watching it regular. It's not the "in your face" kind of 3D, but there are a lot of scenes which work better with it.

I wanted to say, the reason I joined the crowd was because of the comment I threw out there on Johnny Bones' nomination. I'm fully capable of doing the mod job, but figured if I was going to comment like that, I too should put myself out there for criticism. I really like the SE community as a whole. I like how it works. I want to see it get better/bigger. I hope I can be there as a mod to help M&TV along.

@ChristianRau Atleast its not from the person who thinks moderation is about having higher rep in lesser days :D

It's 8 nominee now (including me....cough...cough), i expect 1-2 more. So mostly primary phase going to be skipped. But i will like to see more nominee too

Anyway I am very excited with all that's happening around here. Yay for graduation!

@MattD Go for it. Better to have more candidates to pick from than to settle for someone we did not really want. I also think you'd make a good mod.

It certainly does not look like there will be a election question shortage anytime soon, 21 already!
