Q: Movies about the American civil war

HaLaBiI want a movie about the American civil war, from the events that lead to the war till the end of the war. In other words, I want to know all about the war not from a documentary but from a movie. Is there such a movie(s)?

Should this question be closed? I am in doubt. Follow the comments below the post.

@Mistu4u That's definitely a list question - regardless of what the asker says. Stake that puppy.

Q: Did the director and editor for House of Cards make aesthetic decisions based on H.264 encoding limitations?

JeremiahLeeGiven that the production team for House of Cards knew the show would be streamed online as the only distribution method, did the directors and editors consider H.264's encoding limitations when planning shots and transitions? Cross-fades, fades to/from black, and pans seem to be infrequently us...

Q: Has swearing always been part of Hollywood movies?

Mistu4uAt first, I was under the impression that using words like "f*ck","d*ck","pu**sy" etc. is not a big deal in Western countries. But later my concept changed slightly when at the films, I also observed that families don't want their child to see or listen to those words, implying they are conscious...

Q: Does anyone know this song from Beat Street?

romeovsdoes anyone know the song from the wake-up scenen in Beat Street? For better communication, I put the scene up on youtube.

3:31 PM
so die hard 5 is out this week
im seeing it w my fiance'
for valentines day
I think I chose right.

3:57 PM
@TylerShads die hard 5 is a weird choice for valentines day

As the name is "Die Hard" its gonna be surely an action film, will your valentine like an action film? Oh boy, I doubt that.

We've watched all the previous 4

@Donald.McLean Actually I was in doubt what is an open ended discussion?

she loves 'em, except 2, like a sane human being

@TylerShads Then it's your cup of tea. But just don't be too deep in the film ;)

4:00 PM
If you both like this kind of film then its a gud option

It's an amazing option. Most other guys here get stuck seeing shit romantic films for v-day...blech

hehehehhe..............i am ready to watch romantic shit films but have no partner for v-day

@TylerShads Meh, I have seen guys who rather like seeing thriller movies in V-day.Although weird.

@Mistu4u horror films are good option for vday ;)

@AnkitSharma yeah, yeah, Given the fact both of them are psycho :P

4:04 PM
Another genre i hate xD

@Mistu4u BTW most of my friend call me psycho
@TylerShads thats my fav one horror/slasher are the movies which i like the most

I can read the plot summary of any horror/slasher and tell you the entire detail of the movie
That is why I loved Cabin in the Woods so much, it was that genre done right.

@AnkitSharma I have seen two type of guys about this genre. Some 100% love it i.e. die hard fans, some 100% hate it. BTW I am in the second group.
I could not see saw7 or uni hostel or wrong turn or hanni bahl.

Q: Who is elder in Charlie and Alan?

AnkitIn the TV series 'Two & a half men',Charlie and Alan are brothers, but there is no indication that who is elder. Even Wikipedia doesn't say anything about this. I have watched only season 1. So may be it is revealed in later seasons. Who is elder?

i watched the original saw and was actually impressed. A small budget, horror film that actually had some substance to it...then they just kept spilling out sequels.
I hate the genre as a whole, but there are exceptions to every rule
Back to romantic movies, some can argue Vanilla Sky and Scott Pilgrim are Romantic films, both are excellent movies, however.

4:09 PM
Yes, exceptions are there.

@Mistu4u i watched all saw films, never got chance to watch Wrong tern but watched all three hostel film. I have even watched more slasheir movies then this

@AnkitSharma ...there's a third Hostel?

@TylerShads yup but Hostel 3 sucks
no story , lesser slashy senes

@AnkitSharma Really are there more slashier movies than Saw. Oh, then I must not bring it home anyway.

@Mistu4u Serbian Film is one of them. Thats why i am called Psycho among my friends

4:12 PM
I don't even....
-.-
I just always look back at some things and think
"This got money, where Firefly got cancelled" or "How did this get made, and not Luc Besson's sequel to Fifth Element that he penned already".

Except for Batman trilogy...sequels mostly inferior then the original
@TylerShads i didnot know about the fifth element 2, BTW i didn't even cares because even the first one sucks

Ankit Sharma has been deleted
2

@TylerShads I didn't know that you liked that film.

It is a sci-fi masterpiece

@TylerShads because of popularity of film i watched it. Its ok film but i expected more from a legacy film but got disappointed
BTW its just my personal feeling and it may conflict with other. Its like justin biber some likes his song and some hates .

4:22 PM
I know :P
everyone is entitled to their opinions, I dont like the same genre as you for instance xD

I like the movies which are subjective or little different from general films.
Like Cast away, Sixth sense and The terminal.

all great films
man, I haven't seen the Terminal since it first came out on HBO

I have watched the terminal 3 times in the same month
But didnot got bored at all.......even ready to watch it again anytime

4:45 PM
I know I'm late to this party, but can I delete Ankit too? :)

!!! <3

Aziz! Light!
Just kidding BTW, Ankit. Humour doesn't translate well through the interwebz.

Oh Aziz, the unsung hero of his time.
and of course, as we mentioned yesterday, Gary Oldman as a psycho. Very hard to dislike that movie. Even the woman likes it a little. mostly because of chris tucker though, not because of the quality of hte movie
Also for any Bruce Willis/Die Hard fans: screened.com/news/…

LOL - Christ Tucker is the worst thing in that film for me. But everything else is gorgeous - the closest to seeing Moebius' comics come to life.

@Nobby To me he adds to the already colourful world. Yeah, he is very cringe-worth, but I always assumed that was the point.

5:27 PM
@Nobby i also hated Christ Tucker in the film. Its the different factor that i didn't like the whole film too :p

5:51 PM
@Nobby, @TylerShads, @AnkitSharma - I grew to like the Chris Tucker character more each time I watched it. He's an extrapolation of the worst of radio DJs - projected into a colorful future.

well said

My problem at first was that it was hard to hear what he was saying on his broadcasts - it took a second watch to really hear some of his lines

subtitles are a movie goer's ally

ahh - I never thought of that
Its certainly in my top 20, possibly in my top 10
(but probably not too near the top)

i hate making top lists cause then there'll be a really great movie i forget to mention then i have to rearrange the whole thing

5:59 PM
that's why I'm being purposely vague about where TFE lies

Is it a practice around SE to down-vote a dupe?

speaking of vague (probably has nothing todo with vague at all) I watched Charlie Bartlett again last night. I forgot that the movie was actually quite decent. Considering also I saw it when it came out, then seeing RDJ pre-Iron Man, made it muhc more enjoyable for some reason.
it helps get the point across, yes
but flagging it as such with a link to the dupe is obviously much more effective

Okay.

Anyway, I take Bartlett as my generation's Ferris Bueller/Hughes movies. A high school dramadey-thingy dealing with some of the issues of the modern HS, showing a character that defys the norm.
Or i could be completely insane and talking out of my ass xD
It also helps that it came out literally months after I graduated high school, haha

@Mistu4u - I wouldn't downvote a dupe on any SE site - unless they clearly hadn't tried. Your dupe was pretty understandable.

6:10 PM
The thing is too, Question Downvotes are free, so its much easier to click that than do effort of finding a dupe n flagging
if they too cost -1 or so, then people would be a bit more hesitant and think "well, instead of losing 1 rep, i could do X,Y,Z"

I would usually flag a dupe to be closed - easy to do - pops a Duplicate message on the question.

You and I would, yes, but a casual user? Not likely
much easier to click and be done with it, rather than click, search, copy, paste, click, click

Yes, and for that I thank @hugo who has searched the dupe.

6:49 PM
I think downvote is the reason for new user to leave the site thats why i always use flags, close vote ,delete vote, comment as per the need. T & C apply.

Good practice.Same here.

its a bit harder in my position cause whatever we flag/VTC/delete vote is final. Something that is iffy, a downvote is all I can do without crushing the question completely.

@TylerShads downvote is the reason for me to delete my account long ago. So i know how it feels to see downvote on your question which you feels is not wrong. Comment are a good weapon to realise the op that what he is lacking in

I comment where I can too, ofc
I've had a few things closed, downvoted, etc. It only made me wonder "hmm, how can I make this better then?" Coming into chat is also a good thing users need to do more

@TylerShads yes, i know thats why i love this site and mods too :)

6:59 PM
gives us a much better medium to discuss what can be improved as well as easier to explain why something is wrong

@TylerShads SO meta mods and high rep users i feel are too rude. On meta you get downvote too fast and comments very later.
But here things are different and better

You also got to understand that their traffic is at least 30x more than ours and even greater. They don't have the time to be as personable with each discrepancy brought to their attention.
aye
We talk with mods froma ll over the network, they all seem like really great people.

They are great but too busy to give proper attention to each questions.

considering over 3m questions, its not surprising

Q: What is the name of this australian movie?

kkudiI have this distant memory of a film I watched when I was a teenager and I would appreciate it if you could help me identify it. So I think it's Australian, it's probably a 90's movie, and it starts with a boy around 15-16 years old who is being awakened by his mum to go to school. Then I rem...
