@JanDvorak That would make M-W a descriptive dictionary, which is OK -- it's not trying to state the authoritatively correct definitions of the word, it's just trying to catalogue how words get used & what meanings people use them for.
That makes it useful for looking up how people are in reality using words, but it means you'd seek out another dictionary for the prescriptive source of what usage is correct.
& for a descriptive dictionary, adding in the "virtually" usage of "literally" as a secondary definition is fairly correct and reasonable.
