oh wait you can

profiles are search indexed right
so that would contribute to search ranking

no, they're not
somebody tried to bring this up with a common spammer profile pattern and the mods were uninterested because they're allegedly completely harmless

Hrm.

Interesting.

Don't see any posts on MS either

4:23 AM
@quartata yeah, the incident I'm thinking of revealed hundreds of accounts with spam links in their profiles -- maybe they had an incorrect assumption about how this would affect their SEO, or maybe they were waiting to go into combat

I'll blacklist it anyways

@quartata User blacklisted (72290 on drupal.stackexchange.com).

can't hurt
@tripleee I'm guessing it was a failed attempt at SEO
also jeez that's a lot of spam accounts
The mods didn't care at all?
If it was just one I could understand

@quartata nope, wasted effort

But a bunch of accounts like that would surely be considered abuse of multiple accounts

@tripleee It depends on where you are using the regexp. In some systems / is a delimiter. Vim comes to mind but there might be others.

@JoErNanO sure, vim and Awk, and sed and Perl if you still want to use the default delimiter
too many people needlessly backslash it in their HTTP rewrite rules etc
and even in Procmail where it actually takes a different meaning when backslashed
PHP is wacky too

Ruby can use any character as a delimiter if you use a percent-literal.

%r{http://example\.com} == /http:\/\/example\.com\//

9:00 AM
.oO(I should get a cross-stitch wall decor with "PHP is wacky" on it)

@tripleee that would be a big understatement :-D
> We refuse to change our error messages to something readable. People can look them up just fine. ~~ PHP devs

@JanDvorak '' == false but False !== false
Because screw logic

in PHP? Do they have False?

I was thinking about javascript

9:13 AM
Javascript is tameable at least. PHP is a minefield.

'' === false
false
'' == false
true
yeah
I can get javascript semi under control with some tricks

such as "don't use =="

though I sometimes question why == is even in javascript
Is that only there as a trap for noobs?

historical oversight

@JanDvorak No I mean, what is the use case
Is there one
Is there a given situation in javascript where you'd have to use == over ===

9:21 AM
foo == null is a nice shortcut for foo === null || foo === undefined

Seems like all instances of fuzzy comparison requirements are either bad code design or can/should be handled differently

You don't have to use == ever.
