@tripleee It depends on where you are using the regexp. In some systems / is a delimiter. Vim comes to mind but there might be others.

too many people needlessly backslash it in their HTTP rewrite rules etc

and even in Procmail where it actually takes a different meaning when backslashed

PHP is wacky too
