@KeshavSrinivasan What was the time period of Dramindacharya and Thirumaxhisai Alwar?
@Tezz Can you start a small bounty (50-100) on my Agama question?
I've asked you as you've overcome all privileges!

1 hour later…
4:23 AM
@Pandya Ok Thank You! I just offered bounty of 100 on your question:...
@KeshavSrinivasan I do not know much about Alwars and their time periods...

4:56 AM
@Tezz Dhanyavad!

@Pandya Well, it depends on how you ask. According to traditional Sri Vaishnava accounts, Thirumazhisai Alwar was born in the Dwapara Yuga, as I discuss here:
1
Q: Why does Thirumazhisai Alwar say the Pandava Thoothar statue of Krishna is older than him?

Keshav SrinivasanThe Alwars (also spelled Azhwars) are a group of 12 ancient Vaishnava saints who lived in Tamil Nadu and are famous for their devotional poetry in praise of Vishnu. The collection of their 4000 poems, known as the Naalayira Divya Prabhandam, is considered by many to be the "Dravida Veda", or Sout...

@Pandya But according to Western Indologists, the Alwars lived between the 6th and 9th century AD.

@KeshavSrinivasan ok
@KeshavSrinivasan Hmm... I wanted to know whether pre-Shankara or not?

@Pandya Yes, regardless of whether traditional Sri Vaishnava accounts are correct or Western Indologists are correct Thirumazhisai Alwar was definitely pre-Shankara.
@Pandya If Sri Vaishnava accounts are correct, all the Alwars were born thousands of years before Adi Shankaracharya. If Western Indologists are correct, Thirumazhisai Alwar lived about 70 years before Adi Shankaracharya.

5:26 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Ok, regardless of whether Western Indologists correct, I'll always appreciate (or accept the view of) the tradition of Sri Vaishnava.

@KeshavSrinivasan - Vannakam 😊@Pandya - Namaste - 💐 what's up

@SwiftPushkar Namaste

Q: Is invincibility in a battle dharma or adharma?

sakthiBackground: Many warriors like Bhishma, Indrajit, etc., had boons which made them invincible in a battle. Even Karna had Kavacha and Kundalas which made him invincible (or almost immortal) in any battle. If one battles with invincibility then there is no chance for him to be defeated by other...

@KeshavSrinivasan In Sri Vaishnava guruparampara, Is Parankusha dasa same as Mahapurna?

8:05 AM
@Pandya To be precise, all traditions are relatively true in Maya. Such is the delusive power of Maya. :P

8:47 AM
@SreeCharan No, Parankusa Dasa is completely different from Mahapurna. Mahapurna, aka Periya Nambi, was the shishya of Yamunacharya and the guru of Ramanujacharya. Parankusa Dasa was a far earlier figure. Parankusa Dasa was the shishya of Madhurakavi Alwar.
@SreeCharan Parankusa Dasa was the one who taught Nathamuni the Kanninun Sirithambu of Madhurakavi Alwar, which is what Nathamuni used to get Nammalwar to appear before him as I discuss here:
8
Q: What is the secular account of the compilation of the Alwars' poems?

Keshav SrinivasanThe Alwars (also spelled Azhwars) are a group of 12 ancient Vaishnava saints who lived in Tamil Nadu and are famous for their poetry in praise of Vishnu. The 4000 verses of the Alwars were compiled by the Vaishnava Acharya Nathamuni into a book called the Naalayira Divya Prabhandam, which is cons...

@SreeCharan If you read my question, you'll see that at one place I refer to "someone in the town". That person is Parankusa Dasa.
@SreeCharan By the way, the reason he's called Parankusa Dasa is that Parankusa is a name of Nammalwar, so just as Madhurakavi Alwar was devoted to Nammalwar, Madhurakavi Alwar's shishya was also devoted to Nammalwar.

@Tezz - HI :) is there Samdurda manthan part in shiva purana ?

@SwiftPushkar Vanakkam

@SwiftPushkar नमस्कारम् 😀😀

@KeshavSrinivasan - yes , how are you :)
@SreeCharan - नमस्कारं , कैसे हैं आप ? आज कल क्या पढ़ रहें है?

9:03 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Do you chant guruparampara? In that the name of parampara comes just before Ramanuja and after yamaunacharya. that's why I got the doubt.
@SwiftPushkar पुष्कर जी मैं ठीक हूँ. कुछ नहीं बस ऐसे इन्टरनेट पर घूम रहा हूँ.

@KeshavSrinivasan - Is there any relations in the terms "Rushi &Saints" .Wht i mean is both are learned one in Shastras and can perform miracles ( i think Saints never cursed anyone ) , but when the term Saint has been in use.Seen the term Saint in bhagvatam but jt mostly talk abt. Rushis.
@SreeCharan - ohh , ok , it's really nice to know that 😊👍

@SwiftPushkar I do not know of Shiva Purana chapter discussing Samudra Manthan.. but it is extensively discussed in Skandha Purana...

@Tezz - ok ,will look into that 😊👍👍 , just needed more ref.to add in my answer. Is tring to improve some of my previous answsrs.

@Tezz do you have skanda purana with you?

@SreeCharan तो कहाँ तक पहोंचे आप घूमते घूमते?

9:18 AM
@Pandya - ha ha , thats really , funny , its nice to see you in joking mood :)

@SreeCharan No, I don't chant the Guru Parampara. I only know the Lakshminatha Samarambham Shloka, although I don't chant that either.
@SwiftPushkar Where have you seen saint used in Bhagavatam? In any case saint is an English word, so different people translate it differently into Sanskrit.
@SreeCharan So you're saying that the name Parankusa Dasa comes between Yamunacharya and Ramanujacharya in the Sri Vaishnava Guruparampara?

@KeshavSrinivasan - yes agree with you , the term in bhagvatam is not exactly used to mention a saint but rather used as Saintly people , i will give you the verse. i am also surprised to see the word , so asked , may be , later addition

@KeshavSrinivasan I chant guru parampara. Which goes like this. १. ॐ अस्मद्गुरुभ्यो नमः ॐ अस्मद्परमगुरुभ्यो नमः श्रीमते रामानुजय नमः then श्री परान्कुश दासाय नमः then comes श्रीमद यामुनमुनये नमः then it goes to shreemannarayana. This is called vaakya guruparamapara.
@Pandya Hinduism SE तक.

@SreeCharan - equally good answer :) like serva deva namaskaram keshavam pratigachhati. I am saying "serva site searchanam Hinduism SE pratigaccati"

See this link @KeshavSrinivasan @TheDestroyer @SwiftPushkar @Tezz @Pandya ^^^^^

9:29 AM
@SreeCharan तो ultimately आप Vedanta and Philosophy तक आ ही गये! ☺
@SwiftPushkar So, haven't you seen me in this mode before?

@Pandya हाँ :)

@Pandya - no not , but like to see u in such evertime :)
@SreeCharan - is it skanda purana , oh then why "s" is omitted

@SwiftPushkar It's skanda purana but the way word changes in Tamil language.

@SreeCharan- ohh ok , thanks for the link :) good find

@SwiftPushkar I have skanda purana part 1 but the above part in the link is I want.

9:43 AM
@SwiftPushkar no-problem, actually the mood of discussions depends upon topic and the nature of whom with we are talking. You can find the expected mood by means of the nature of talk! :)

@SreeCharan - yes , agreed

10:04 AM
@Tezz @KeshavSrinivasan - A imp question to you both , do we need to consider the litral meaning provided below the verse in texts like Gita , puranas , or Mahabharata , Ramayana etc.OR we need to read the commentary by various aacharya first and to see the real meaning of the verse , and should then use it in answer.Wht.is recommend while providing verses frm texts in answer related to "How we should interpret verses"

10:16 AM
eg. ⬆⬆ Can we use this verse , as it is - vedabase.com/en/sb/11/22/39 if someone asks question like How the death occurs or what exactly is death etc.Or we need to , go through commentary and to check real meaning given by various people and then decide , whether to use the verse in answer or not.

1 hour later…
11:44 AM
@SreeCharan No, I don't have Skandha Purana with me.. but I know Samundra Manthan is also described in Skandha Purana as me and @TheDestroyer discussed earlier...
@SwiftPushkar what I think is literal meaning also provides real meaning in many cases... but for some difficult verses what I prefer is either to explain it through other scriptures or through commentary of Acharya... (if both option are not avaliable I try to explain it myself)...

12:25 PM
@SreeCharan do you want Skanda Purana? Which part?

@Tezz - Ok 😊👍@TheDestroyer - Namaskaram 🙏💐

1:09 PM
@SwiftPushkar Namaskaram

@TheDestroyer I need Mahabharata Shanti Parva (Sanskrit+Hindi).

@Pandya i don't have Sanskrit Hindi MhB

@TheDestroyer Oh! ok. Btw, which language do you prefer to read Scriptures in Sanskrit+Telugu or Sanskrit+ English or Sanskrit+ English?
I mean Sanskrit+Hindi (mistakenly written English twice)

@Pandya I generally read in Sanskrit and English. Most of the scriptures are translated to Classic Telugu and Classic Telugu is almost Sanskrit (i can understand 70-80% of it). There are very few scriptures in Simple Telugu. So, i prefer English over telugu where i can use Merriam Webster dictionary rather than finding difficulties in searching meanings of Telugu or Sanskrit words.

1:48 PM
@Pandya did you get any clarification mail from "Indianscriptures" about copyright status?

1 hour later…
3:08 PM
@TheDestroyer Not yet. I think my mails might be ignored, you can try yourself

@Pandya I mailed publishers asking clarification on copyright status of puranas. They didn't reply. I even linked Indianscriptures site in the mail. Awaiting mail from them.
@Pandya Ok. I will mail them.

3:25 PM
@TheDestroyer ok

1 hour later…
4:31 PM
@SreeCharan OK yeah, it looks like Parankusa Dasa is another name for Periya Nambi: guruparamparai.wordpress.com/2012/09/01/periya-nambi So it looks there are two people called Parankusa Dasa. Nammalwar had many devotees :-)

@KeshavSrinivasan Yes.

I want one help...

@KrishnShweta Hello.

I just googled about Soodras so gone through this link
@SreeCharan Hello!!

@KrishnShweta What is your doubt? Is it about manusmriti?

4:39 PM
Title of that article is "Status of women" so dragged me to look. So......... few lines are:
One should not marry women who has have reddish hair, redundant parts of the body [such as six fingers], one who is often sick, one without hair or having excessive hair and one who has red eyes.
"Wise men should marry only women who are free from bodily defects, with beautiful names, grace/gait like an elephant, moderate hair on the head and body, soft limbs and small teeth."

@KrishnShweta Most are mistranslated. read here

Manusmriti is the most disputed scripture I know. Many people reject that.

स्वभाव एष नारीणां नराणामिह दूषणम् ।
अतोऽर्थान्न प्रमाद्यन्ति प्रमदासु विपश्चितः ॥ २१३ ॥

svabhāva eṣa nārīṇāṃ narāṇāmiha dūṣaṇam |
ato'rthānna pramādyanti pramadāsu vipaścitaḥ || 213 ||

It is the very nature of women to corrupt men. It is for this reason that the wise are never unguarded regarding women.—(213)
That random site says
1. “Swabhav ev narinam …..” – 2/213. It is the nature of women to seduce men in this world; for that reason the wise are never unguarded in the company of females.
See commentary:
Medhātithi’s commentary (manubhāṣya):

It is the nature of women that they make men fall off from their fidelity: by associating with men, women would make them deviate from their vow.

For this reason the wise are never ‘unguarded’; i.e., they shun women from a distance;—‘unguardedness’ would consist in touching her and so forth.

It is in the very nature of things that a young woman, when touched, produces a disturbance in the mind; and this mental disturbance itself has been interdicted, to say nothing of other vulgarities.

@TheDestroyer Apart from the skanda purana you have mailed me, is there other parts too? The question about "Cock and peacock" can be answered from Skanda purana.

@KrishnShweta Read from here
@SreeCharan I think it doesn't have Skanda Purana
@SreeCharan Ok. I will search the fat book

4:43 PM
I downloaded from your post. @TheDestroyer

@KrishnShweta Also, Manusmriti is not applicable for Kali Yuga. Parashara Smriti is applicable for Manusmriti

@KrishnShweta How is everything going on?

@TheDestroyer Thanks!! I was just looking for "soodra" meaning. When I saw that link I felt bad.

@SreeCharan Ohh ok.

@SreeCharan Good.. :)

4:45 PM
@KrishnShweta which verse?

The Manusmriti Dahan Diwas (Manusmriti Burning Day), during the Great struggle (Maha-Sangharsha) of Mahad Satyagraha, was day on 25 December 1927 that Manusmriti (an ancient Cast system-upholding text of Hinduism) was publicly burned by Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. It was an important mile stone in Dalit struggle against Brahminism by Dalits led by Babasaheb Ambedkar. Manusmriti (or Manusmṛti) is probably the most burnt book in India every year by Dalits and Ambedkarites. Dr. Ambedkar came from Bombay by boat "Padmavati" via Dasgaon port, instead of Dharamtar, though it is longer distance, because in the...

@SreeCharan Political parties are misusing Ambedkar.

@KrishnShweta Are you learning any new stotras?

@TheDestroyer "Which verse?" I'm talking about that link.

@SreeCharan And moreover, constitution of India was framed was many people. But they credited to it Ambedkar alone.
@KrishnShweta ok

4:47 PM
@SreeCharan Nah!!

Hiiii All 💐🙏👍

@TheDestroyer Yes. They have framed ambedkar as a person belonging to particular caste.

@SreeCharan Hello!

@SreeCharan भ्राता का मतलब क्या है?

@TheDestroyer brother

@SreeCharan अच्छा टीक..

@TheDestroyer -it means broother , but this word mostly used by Buddhist .We do not use THIS word 😊

@SreeCharan Okay.

4:52 PM
But the word has its roots in sanskrit. "Brother" came from Bhratha.
@TheDestroyer @KrishnShweta Do you know Katamarayuda song (original)?

@SreeCharan Yeah. I know.
It describes Dashavatara..

@SreeCharan I don't know
