As N increases by 1, so does the number of letters. A = 1, B = 2, C = 3. ...
So the code below is what I'm trying to cut down to as few lines as possible. Any other ruby tricks out there I could use to shorten it? I appreciate all help anyone can offer.

I'm getting really tired of all the alphabet challenges which are essentially "print this big block with a sort-of pattern". They don't really add anything to the previous one, just maybe a different method of compressing the string.
The challenge is to write the fastest code possible for computing the permanent of a matrix.
