@betseg But that formulaeaeaeaeaeaeae is correct... E=mc^2 only applies when p == 0.

Q: N in a row (or column)!

jacksonecacN in a row Input: 2-Dimensional array with a size of N x N where 1 <= N <= 26. The array will be filled randomly like so: N = 1 A N = 2 B | A ----- A | B N = 3 A | B | C ---------- B | A | B ---------- C | A | C As N increases by 1, so does the number of letters. A = 1, B = 2, C = 3. ...

@wizzwizz4 lolwut

@TuxCopter It always confuses me. Is it the singular "formula" or the plural "formulae"? :;O=S

12:28 PM
You used the singular "is" so you should use the singular "formula" in that above sentence

@TuxCopter gif/video plz

I don't have a recorder :/

what game is it, then?

A pixel show on the LCD, and unshow after 2 ticks, and the goal is to click on the position where the pixel was
The numeric LCD is the score

@TuxCopter ... Imgur is down... ?
Can you read this message?

Nope it's not down

@TuxCopter My internet must be down then.
I hope our new userscript site design is good!

Q: Graphical Editor programming puzzle

Teererai MarangeI am attempting to answer the Graphical editor programming puzzle(described here) and am struggling to understand how the command F works. Specifically what does it mean to say that a pixel (X1, Y1) shares a common side with with a pixel (X2,Y2)?

@MamaFunRoll [T?5?6] #. => 1, shouldn't this be 5? Or have I misunderstood?

@MamaFunRoll Hello! I haven't seen you here in ages

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

TimmyDA Square of Squares code-golf ascii-art META: This is still pretty rough, so don't read too much into it as yet. Given two inputs, a and b, with a >= 4, b >= 2, print/output a square of size a x a composed of b hollow squares of size 3 x 3. The b squares must be spaced evenly around the bigger...

I'm getting really tired of all the alphabet challenges which are essentially "print this big block with a sort-of pattern". They don't really add anything to the previous one, just maybe a different method of compressing the string.

we need some mathy questions for a while now :)

yeah
anything but more alphabet

If they don't add anything it means that the pattern is not interesting to golf

IMO it's possible to use different ways, but not interesting

I have felt that most of the alphabet questions have been interesting in that I've been able to use different strategies for them.

1:45 PM
I only need 3 more arithmetic upvotes to get a badge so I'm interested in mathsy questions :P

lol
most of the current ones I see are shapes made from the alphabet, where you can certainly transform the string in different ways to make the shape

those are the most common ones yeah
it's a bit excessive when 8 of the challenges are on the first page though

:/ they just seem really boring to me
yeah

Then come up with challenges of your own!

will try no guarentee

1:47 PM
wait... There's an alphabet tag?

I am not fox or cat-in-hat
@muddyfish yes.

haven't wanted to sandbox any of the questions I have as they have been ascii art (not alphabet though) and there's been a lot of those lately

it's a bit underused I think

Q: Calculate the permanent as quickly as possible

LembikThe challenge is to write the fastest code possible for computing the permanent of a matrix. The permanent of an n-by-n matrix A = (ai,j) is defined as Here S_n represents the set of all permutations of [1, n]. I was gonna do thatone , but my approach was taken quickly and I haven't really had time to think of a better strategy

Oh, I love irony ... We had a piece of malware make it through our anti-spam filters, so I opened a support ticket with the vendor. Their ticket response stating that they resolved the issue was itself caught by the spam filter and quarantined.

Crisis averted.

hey, if you don't want to let any spam through, you really need one function: function allow_email(): return false

WTF APPLLE Y U DO DIS

@Downgoat wat

@TuxCopter sorry fixed

@Downgoat that's just not cool

No one cares about touch bar >:|

As if we needed that to know that you shouldn't buy a macbook

2:39 PM
> Who cares about vim ? @dz @juhasaarinen you can use BBedit and be more productive than that ancient vim could ever be.
ಠ_ಠ

@Downgoat Funny, I just watched that onion video where they advertise the new Apple laptop that removes the keyboard.

@Fatalize ಠ_ಠ
@Yodle well we're 1/6 the way to that reality ;_;

Yeah we'll see if they have enough courage to do so.

Someone please tell Apple that removing basic features is not cool.
Tho i mean theres a lot of devs who use mac and removing escape is just stupid

It's easy to tell them: don't buy their stuff

2:43 PM
;_; but windows suck
I cant even build makefile on windows

Then use Linux
It's like iOS only without the godawful and restrictive UI

Linix is ugly and 99% of popular apps dont support

> Linux is ugly

Ok but the latter holds true
and i use iphone and ipad so i need mac apps

2:46 PM
wine is shit
i mean it is very havky

and it doesnt work for gaot ;_;

Found the video. youtu.be/faEbTXXCJro?t=3

@Downgoat Don't tell me you're gonna buy the next iPhone?

Oh hell no

2:47 PM
@Yodle That's... stupid

@TuxCopter but it feels like such a real possibility ;_;

Virtual keyboards are already a pain, and now virtual keyboards on computers????????
Dammit Apple
And I think this will be horrible to program in

Be prepared fr even worse gaot typing

No, there just will be more autocorrect fail

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ Yah, I posted it but it prints single quotes instead of double

2:49 PM
> To reduce energy use, screen go black after 4 seconds
lolwut

Well it's satire, they haven't (yet) done that.
I saw it yesterday, it reminded me of that other popular video of the MacTini

@Downgoat In this day and age I think you'd be surprised what Linux does support.

Does it support safari?

Still has issues with gaming ime, but even that's a lot better than it was.

point proven :/

2:54 PM
safari sucks
Chrome for the win

@Downgoat support for safari isn't even a plus though ;)

When I switched back to Linux from Mac I made a list of my apps that didn't have official Linux alternatives. For all but two (Logic Pro and MacBS2) I found an alternative that's better

Safari dev tools are miles anead of chromes tho

And even the case of Logic Pro Rosegarden is pretty close

@ETHproductions feel free to undelete your answer on my challenge
I've explicity allowed non-programming languages

2:55 PM
@Downgoat So you're using a mac just for Safari?

@Downgoat Firefox + Firebug is lightyears ahead of Safari

I found out my company is a bad password offender

@TuxCopter lmao sure

I may have to leave

@quartata nah

2:56 PM
I was looking up a list of TLDs, saw *.arpa is the framework of the Internet, and decided to see what I could find under that TLD. The results are interesting...

imessage, pages, etc.
i use lots of proprietary mac app
Crap weong word

While looking through the pages, I found an alternate quine for the dc programming language that is also 16 bytes.

There is this website where my teacher posts screencasts that we have to watch for class, and it has questions about the topic that we have to answer and it gets graded. Using Chrome dev tools, I was able to find the answer to a certain type of questions and got them right.

@Shebang a what?

I tried to help my friend who using Firefox, but it sucks and I couldnt

2:59 PM
@mbomb007 One of the registration forms we have for clients requires your password is between 7 and 12 characters long ._.

@Downgoat Pidgin supports iMessage last I checked. There's a very easy trick for viewing Pages docs in any PDF viewer, and in general LibreOffice is closer to Word which makes it easier to write papers using the often strict style guidelines of your school

@Shebang did they add the @Shebang #!/usr/bin/cat to each file :P

@KritixiLithos Maybe you just suck at using it.

@quartata but continuity/icloud colaboration?

2:59 PM
@mbomb007 Maybe thats because Firefox's dev tools are that not user friendly...

^^^

iCloud is just terrible. I know many Mac users who can attest to that.

I find Firebug easy to use

@quartata icloud collabpration has nothing to do with icloud except they both go through internet

Can't we all just be friends, stop arguing, and agree that Internet Explorer has been, is, and will forever be the best browser?
7

3:01 PM
Have you tried Google Docs?
@Yodle bwahahaha no

@quartata yes, but i cant make as pretty document with it

it pretty limited in term of feature

Google Docs is amazing
Google Slides and sheets too

@TuxCopter -1

3:03 PM
@TuxCopter this isnt "what is bests briwser", more of "what browser do you use"

Fair but you can just upload a DOC file to it

Wait....

best browser is also chrome

Google Docs is nice and all, but I feel weird not having something installed, so I also have OpenOffice.

3:04 PM
Safari is only good more iPads and iPhones
You can use Google Drive from offline

@mbomb007 ωτƒ

Also i use apple cpmpatible devices

Compose key fail

I use Android

e.g. My external drive uses thunderbolt

3:05 PM
I also use a Mac, but I still prefer Chrome.
I only use Safari for my @Sock's account

I use FF and Chrome for my sock

@Downgoat Thunderbolt to USB is a thing. And we've had iPhone and iPod syncing for years.

Who is your sock @TuxCopter?

I think most useful feature if Mac is I can take calls/respond to SMS because I can never find my phone. I can't do that with Linux
@quartata thunderbolt is much faster than USB

Google Voice

3:06 PM
Google Assistant

@KritixiLithos Zalgo

@TuxCopter wat no you are my sock

They are releasing Google Assistant's SDK soon

@Downgoat It's about on par with 3.0 last I checked

@quartata wait wat
how

3:07 PM
a little faster sure

Google is also better, Google will one day take over Microsoft Apple and everything else

but I've been using 3.0 drives for quite a while with no speed issues at all

Also idk if Linux has correct hidpi support

I also like Chrome

@KritixiLithos and sell my life to NSA along with it ;_;

3:08 PM
and Google because of their Material design

First Google result for me is an extensive Arch Linux wiki article on setting it up

@Downgoat I trust Google with my information

@KritixiLithos why?

I am a die-hard Google fan. My friends call it an obsession

I used to be a Firefox user, but then they changed the menus to be "mobile friendly", which means they hate desktop users.

3:11 PM
My love of Google was reinforced in Oct 4's #madebygoogle keynote. I watched the entire ~90 minutes

So I use Chrome now

^ GOOGLE chrome forever

@KritixiLithos but they removed end to end encryption in text app and acknowledge sharing data with NSA. And because of IoT they know literally everything about you

@KritixiLithos Nah, just Chrome. Same as Mozilla Firefox.
And Microsoft Internet Explorer

@Downgoat If you have any more migration questions let me know. I went through almost this exact thought process 4 years ago
so I know the feeling

3:13 PM
Perhaps I should create dual boot and try Linux for a while

@Zalgo Rock'em Sock'em Robuts

Idk, I'm not confortable with using different things than rest of world

Well I wasn't terribly worried about not having Safari. But substitute Thunderbolt for FireWire and you basically have it

3:19 PM
@mbomb007 risky click of the day
@quartata wut? Safari is crap
or did I miss the argument where we've been over this already
/me scrolls up. yes i did

@muddyfish .arpa is the oldest domain name, it's used mainly (exclusively?) now for infrastructure stuff.

@Poke Sorry, this is a post in The Shœstring Foundation Weblog titled "Advanced German for Pirates!"

@rturnbull i was asking about the image on the page that isn't in english

@muddyfish If I understand it correctly, ip6.arpa redirects you to various sites based on the numbers in the domain name.

@mbomb007 I clicked it anyway haha :]

3:22 PM
I guess it redirects to an ipv6 address

@KritixiLithos What do you think about the Pixel?

@Downgoat There is an incognito mode in the Allo app
@Yodle Pixel was sent from the heavens as a blessing to Google
It is in all ways better than the iPhone.

26 mins ago, by mbomb007
I was looking up a list of TLDs, saw *.arpa is the framework of the Internet, and decided to see what I could find under that TLD. The results are interesting...

My brother just ordered his, and I need a new phone more than he does considering my screen has cracked twice after getting it replaced, not to mention all of the other problems that have risen up from opening the back.

I've liked my OnePlus. They work great and they are cheap

3:25 PM
@PhiNotPi A quick search shows it's going to http://shoestringfoundation.org/cgi-bin/blosxom.cgi

Google has just been irritating me more and more with their choices

^

they got rid of iGoogle, they got rid of Reader

They merged YouTube and Gmail into their one signin

I haven't been keeping up with the Pixel. Is this about the chin?

3:26 PM
@muddyfish Ah! My German isn't great, but I think it's an image that is displayed to someone if they try to access a website that is blocked in Germany.

@rturnbull but I'm not in Germany?

Google is still awesome

@PhiNotPi What I find weird though, is that (pretty much) only the Shoestring Foundation appears in the results

I watched the Pixel ad so many times that one night when going to sleep, the song was stuck to my head and I was able to sleep happily and calmly

@muddyfish A closer reading suggests that it's a parody of the real image, and this one is a protest against the censorship law.

3:29 PM
@mbomb007 And all of the advertising crap they've been doing on YouTube lately, too.

@muddyfish Which is supported by the Franklin quote. See also : prototypen.com/blog/falk/archive/political/…

Apples rot, windows break, but Google, heh, it's so big that no human have ever counted to it

@muddyfish It's a satire on a German law initiative which wanted to show a similar sign when trying to access sites that might contain forbidden material. The original can be found for example here: heise.de/newsticker/meldung/…

thanks

OMG LOL... and here's the translation

3:30 PM
Google is the best: better than Apple, better than Microsoft
at least Google Translate is developing at an exponential rate

@TimmyD Whenever I see my "recommended videos", they're all like 3-8 years old, or crap I don't wanna watch.
Or stuff I've already seen.

I personally like YouTube's recommended videos

I haven't paid attention to "Recommended Videos" in months, if not years.

Recommended videos are still better than "recommended articles" on amazon.

3:33 PM
^^ I like to listen to this ad. It's really addictive

> (...) we're evolving in computing from a 'mobile-first' to an 'AI-first' world - Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google said this in Google's keynote on October the 4th.

@KritixiLithos I would really rather not

Anyway, some pretty neat news from the Microsoft event happening now.

Google Assistant's AI is so much more advanced than Apple's Siri and Amazon's Echo

3:37 PM
@muddyfish It's a very long joke, essentially.

@muddyfish You must admit DeepMind is cool

cool != something I would find practical

DeepMind is finding ways to save people from cancer, I think
It is like an AI superhero, now that is cool

> 3.5mm headphone jack satisfyingly not new

^ why Google is better than Apple
Google's VR headset is amazing and cheap (has extra space for glasses!) @TimmyD
Google has humour, Apple doesn't
I can go on for a googol hours on why Google is amazing, but I won't live that long

could people stop fanboying about apple/google/microsoft (in alphabetical order)

I love adobe. they can't do anything wrong

Google should ALWAYS come first!

3:57 PM
@KritixiLithos You mean the laughable Google Cardboard?
@muddyfish No.

@TimmyD No, I meant this beauty: madeby.google.com/vr
But Google Cardboard is a very affordable VR headset compared to other ones

Nothing we've invented so far qualifies as "VR" to me. It's still a screen in front of your face, so it's not virtual. VR will only exist when we plug in to the Matrix.

@NathanMerrill hahaha

What if we already are?

Until you can replace your senses in this world with your senses in a virtual world, there's no VR.
@KritixiLithos We aren't.

4:03 PM
How do you know?

We already have sight hearing taste and touch down. Just missing smell

@KritixiLithos Because humans aren't smart enough to create something like that.
And they never will be

Who said that we are in a man-made matrix? There are tons of other species you know...

And none of them are capable of making a Matrix

You never know...

4:06 PM
After all we're only the 3rd smartest species on Earth

@quartata 1st smartest

Dolphins are smarter

No they're not

And mice

And mice.

4:07 PM
Lol. What a joke

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Yeah, I've read it.

I don't think he gets it.

The book was meh

What if mice were doing experiments on us?

4:08 PM
If mice were smarter, it wouldn't be so easy for us to kill them.

Mice are actually just projections of a species from another dimension

Kind of like a finger or an arm

I dunno. Perhaps mice love death
we can't just assume that everybody hates death because we do

That would make them stupid.

4:10 PM
What about the piggies from Speaker of the Dead? They don't fear moving to the third life

forcing everything to work under your world view sounds very much like a 3rd-smartest thing to do

And I'm sure it's already been shown that mice do not love death
@quartata They're also not real

if they really are smarter than us, then how can we know?
they would simply be out-smarting us

We can't measure thoughts or emotions only behaviors

The nice thing about science is that we do not need to pretend to know all the answers

4:11 PM
@KritixiLithos Except when it comes to evolution
and history

I pretend to know all the answers all the time.
It has never backfired.

@TimmyD Are you sure?

That quote I posted was originally said by Niel deGrasse Tyson in the series Cosmos. I just rephrased it in my own words

@KritixiLithos Evolution is one massive pretension of knowing the answers.

@mbomb007 Never. Backfired.

4:13 PM
Exactly

Also I doubt it has been demonstrated formally that mice fear death since it's not ethical. The APA is super picky about that

@TimmyD You could have caused a disruption in an alternate universe shrugs

Dang. Nothing about the Surface Phone today.

I still prefer my Zune

nobody cares about Microsoft nowadays

4:15 PM
@NathanMerrill oh dear
I forgot about those. Sheesh

@KritixiLithos Right ... obvious troll is obvious.

I'm not a troll
Talking about Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I use return 42; in C++ programs at the end of the main() function

@KritixiLithos They certainly don't care about us.

I know right
But Google cares about us

Google only cares about you because you have a dollar amount attached
Same as any company

4:22 PM
What about Google's cloud-based services? Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos to name a few are all free

@KritixiLithos "Free"

If you're not paying for the product, you are the product.

@mbomb007 What do you mean by that?

^^

everything has a price. Prices aren't always in a currency

4:24 PM
You pay in information, in time spent, in viewing ads
You pay in freedom, in liberty, and in happiness
You sign away your rights when you click "I accept"

So that's it, huh? You guys think Google sucks? You know what, I DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR OPINIONS! I AM HAPPY WITH KNOWING THAT I BELIEVE IN GOOGLE, EVEN IF IM ALONE!

Rod
@KritixiLithos don't worry, this isn't ONLY about google :c

@mbomb007 I don't think you can make the argument that Gmail makes people unhappier (or unhappier than those that use a different email provider, at least)

@KritixiLithos Maybe it is because you believe in Google that you're alone.
@NathanMerrill I wasn't talking about any company specifically
everything has a price

GOOGLE IS THE BEST

4:27 PM
@KritixiLithos wishful thinking

Google's price is that it is too awesome in this world

@KritixiLithos Google is a biased corporate giant who doesn't care about its users as much as it cares about money.

Gmail has been voted as the best email provider by simple economics: more people choose to use it than any other email provider

@mbomb007 All right fine, then. Google WILL be the best when it takes over Apple, Microsoft, and everything else remaining in this world and becomes a world-wide dictatorship

@KritixiLithos Then you'll really be sorry to be alive.

4:28 PM
At least I'm happy to die to Google
for Google
by Google

I can't take you seriously anymore.
You must be the sock

Google is life
Life is Google

1000 GOOGLE FTW!

^ 1000 stars

4:46 PM
So fricking difficult from my phone. :/

Android?

Is there even a move button on mobile? Didn't know that

You have to request the desktop site, which is rather close to unusable.

ANDROID is amazing
I wish I had Nougat

Coming from custom ROMs, it's rather meh.

4:51 PM
I'm still stuck on Kitkat because Lollipop broke everything

@Dennis by custom ROM, does that mean stuff like CyanogenMod?

Yeah. I used OmniROM on my Nexus 5 and Cyanogen on my OnePlus One (installed by default).
Had to keep the latter from upgrading to the Lollipop based version because I hated it.

I have Marshmallow
... on my AVD

@Dennis oh I think I remember you talking about this a while ago

Probably.

4:56 PM
Nougat is awesome
I wish I had it
