What's wrong with my code? I can't compile:

\documentclass{standalone}
\usepackage{pdfpages}
\begin{document}
\includepdf{1.pdf}
\end{document}

@VincentVerheyen error message?

Anonymous
@DavidCarlisle Missing endgroup inserted. -- On the line \includepdf{1.pdf}.

Anonymous
@DavidCarlisle Ok. It's due to \documentclass{standalone}.

@VincentVerheyen standalone seems to be used a lot more than I expect, it probably has its uses but anyway, it works (or at least doesn't error) if you use `\vbox{\includepdf..} but why not just use \includegraphics not sure it makes sense to include multi-page pdf into standalone

Anonymous
@DavidCarlisle I just want to make a multi-page pdf (full page-size; or better said: full-size of the jpg's) from some JPG's ... any kind of code designed for that?

7:32 AM
@VincentVerheyen if you are including jpg why are you using includepdf?

Anonymous
@DavidCarlisle I just tried to find some code to have a full-page image; hence I found the command includepdf.

@VincentVerheyen but does it even work to give it a jpg, or do you mean you made pdfs of each jpg separately and then try to concatenate them?

Anonymous
@DavidCarlisle Yes, that was the time-consuming method I would need to do (convert the jpg's individually into pdf's first), before proceeding in Tex.

Anonymous
It seems like making a multi-page pdf from jpg's is very easy in Linux, but unfortunately I'm not on Linux.

Anonymous
I'll just do it outside of Tex, I guess.

7:36 AM
@VincentVerheyen just use \shipout\hbox{\includegraphics{file1.jpg}}\shipout\hbox{\includegraphics{file2.‌jpg}}
@VincentVerheyen tex probably isn't the tool of choice for this, although it would work

Anonymous
@DavidCarlisle Thanks.

Alenanno goes to vote to close Tikz question
Alenanno unilaterally closes question because he now has a Gold Tikz badge
Uh oh

yo'
@Alenanno It's a dupe hammer only, so it should be fine as long as the dupe is truly a dupe

@yo' Yeah, never really thought about that.

helllo - is anyone familiar with TeXStudio here?

yo'
@Alenanno the golden hammer does make sense as it is :-)

i can't get this to compile vpaste.net/nmGvC so i'm guessing i'm doing something daft

10:33 AM
@yo' Yeah, although I had assumed it gave power on any question with the Tikz tag, not just for dupes.

yo'
@Alenanno I think it's only for dupes, but I may be wrong (never used the hammer actually, since I own no golden tag badges you know...)

@yo' No, I think you're right. Also works for reopening though (or at least, it seemed to do so for me recently).

yo'
@TorbjørnT. makes sense to make it symmetric

Was glancing at tex.stackexchange.com/site-analytics What happened late august 2013? Spam overflow? (If that thing counts votes on deleted answers.) Daily downvotes:

@TorbjørnT. probably

@TorbjørnT. It correlates with “new visits” and “questions asked”, so yes. It was most probably spam.

@daleif: don't forget to join our duck contest! <3
@DavidCarlisle: Thank you for picture mode! :)

11:52 AM
Man, avoiding artifacts like subsubsection being left alone on previous page and/or column is hard.
Then one just tries to use 11pt instead 12pt font and everything breaks. :)

yo'
@wilx that shouldn't ever happen on its own, unless the class/setup is flawed.

I am using article.

@wilx As Tom mentioned, this odd behaviour should not normally happen. Do you have a MWE?

Good maen

@PauloCereda Definitely not MWE: github.com/wilx/w7faq
At least pages 49 and 55 have odd issues.

Q: How to include any .sty file in circuit_macros?

ÖzgürMy circuit_macros M4 code .PS #\usepackage{steinmetz} #include(steinmetz) #s_init(steinmetz) scale=25.4 source(up_,AC);llabel(,120\angle 50{^{\circ}},) .PE output And that I want image, That is how to include steinmetz.sty file? Related to: http://staff.ee.sun.ac.za/pjrandewijk/wiki/ind...

12:17 PM
@PauloCereda epic picture mode, for old time's sake

@DavidCarlisle :)

@wilx I don't see anything particularly strange on those pages, the only very bad break I saw was before
\WviiNeedSpace{}%
\paragraph{Level 3 spells (37 Thaumaturgy)}%
@wilx which had a column and a half of white space. that is cause by \WviiNeedSpace{} if you remove that it breaks normally. \needspace should b ea tool for very final tweaks, it can have strange effects and can't really be expected to guess correctly in all cases. You seem to be calling it a lot?

12:35 PM
@DavidCarlisle OK. I was tweaking stuff and then I tried to reduce the font size and that happened.
I am probably going to try to rework it into a report and use the chapters for the top level.

@wilx not really related to font size other than that changes where the page breaks happen

12:58 PM
@ChristianHupfer I'm not sure. After all circuit-macros is on CTAN and it seems to be interwoven with LaTeX. But I don't expect this to receive an answer.
@ChristianHupfer Also it is not distributed with any distribution by default.

yo'
1:11 PM
@ChristianHupfer I commented there actually just now :-)

@UlrikeFischer: bounty already awarded, feel free to add one. :)

@PauloCereda @egreg will be pleased.

2:35 PM
@daleif Some looneys call it The Duck give away 2016, I call it Spot the Great Looney Duck Contest 2016 -- a small hint: The small looney duck is amongst us in chat here ;-) @PauloCereda

@ChristianHupfer You could not mention me so it would be less obvious. :D

2:50 PM
@PauloCereda Hm, 'Oh my I am so stupid' ;-)

@ChristianHupfer oh no!

Hi, I'm using the following code
\AtBeginDocument{
\iftocframe
\begin{frame}[c, plain]
\maketitle
\end{frame}
\begin{frame}[allowframebreaks]{Outline}
\tableofcontents
\end{frame}
\else
\begin{frame}[c, plain]
\maketitle
\end{frame}
\fi%
}
however, I'm getting an unwanted space at the top of my outline frame (the frametitle is offsetted), while I don't get it when it is placed after \begin{document}

Friends, this bloke registered today and added an entry in the duck contest. Could anyone take a shot and tell him that he will be able to join us in the next contest, but not this one?
I can also add a comment and take a bullet for the group. :)

@PauloCereda With other words, you don't want to be the bad guy? ;-)

@ChristianHupfer I already played this role. :) meta.tex.stackexchange.com/a/6678/3094
@ChristianHupfer: thanks, I see you added a comment. I will add a couple of words.

@PauloCereda That's not Bad Guy -- that's the 'I am the too polite Looney Duck' - attitude :-P

@ChristianHupfer added. :)

3:59 PM
@PauloCereda downvoted upvoted ;-)

I wish Tikz challenges weren't so rare. :D

@Alenanno What kind of challenges?

@PauloCereda The ones where someone asks Tikz users to draw something as a challenge. I think there was one about clocks time ago.

@Alenanno oh.

@PauloCereda Yeah. :P

4:23 PM
I don't know why we have questions like that. One answer just says it does work, the other answer shows some code that made the problem appear. Right now, this question in its current state is unclear and doesn't help anyone in the future.

Q: apply binding correction to titlepage

Quodlyi am using the arsclassica package, documentclass scrreprt with the options oneside and BCOR10mm. however, the binding correction does not apply to the titlepage as can be seen in the package example. is there a way to make that happen?

4:38 PM
@PauloCereda made my part too :)

@RomainPicot wooo

@PauloCereda By the way, how can I corrupt you ? :)

@RomainPicot Ducks are trustful. :)

@PauloCereda Coin coin ? :'(

@RomainPicot Quack quack! <3

4:51 PM
@PauloCereda Nobody will know :p

@RomainPicot :)

@PauloCereda :'(

@RomainPicot <3

5:19 PM
See how things work: we have 34 upvotes and 50 answers in the duck contest. :(

@PauloCereda 35 now :D

@RomainPicot yay!

@PauloCereda it's enough as corruption ? :P

@RomainPicot :)

@PauloCereda it's a yes then? :)

5:26 PM
@RomainPicot Yes. :)

@PauloCereda So you need my mail adress, send me the duck now, it's useless to wait ffor the end of the contest :P

@RomainPicot <3

5:44 PM
@RomainPicot @PauloCereda: I send your names to Transparency International :-P

@ChristianHupfer For what? :P

@RomainPicot corruption!!!!

@ChristianHupfer Oh! But how do you know?

@RomainPicot Chat transcript? :D

oh :(

6:27 PM
@RomainPicot you have no chance. I confidently expect to win.

@DavidCarlisle English are cheating all the time ! Every French knows this :P

@RomainPicot You are just upset about Agincourt

@DavidCarlisle I will alter the range so you will be selected. :)

May 28 at 17:59, by David Carlisle
@PauloCereda I could change my answer to (list (- (point-min) 1) (+ (point-max) 1))

@DavidCarlisle Of course you've cheated because you've used bow like cowards :)

6:34 PM
ooh English and French are accusing each other, let me grab le pomme de terre. :)

@RomainPicot it's probably all made up by Shakespeare and never really happened
@PauloCereda Nós não jogue as batatas em patos

@DavidCarlisle s/jogue/jogamos/g :)

@PauloCereda I trust my sources.

a little question, with lualatex how can I change the parameter stack size?

@RomainPicot I think that's same as tex, in texmf.cnf but how on earth have you got close to that limit:-)

6:45 PM
\documentclass{beamer}
\usepackage{luacode}
\usepackage{graphicx}

\begin{document}
\begin{frame}

\directlua{
for i=1,1 do
tex.print("\\only<"..i.."-"..i..">{\\includegraphics{duck"..i..".jpg}}")
end
}

\end{frame}
\end{document}

@RomainPicot YES

:30079478
! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [parameter stack size=10000].
\beamer@inlineframetitle #1^^@-
\@ifnextchar \bgroup {\frametitle {#1}\framesub...
l.14 \end{frame}

ooh beamer with luatex. This bloke is adventurous. :)

@RomainPicot hang on I'll check, but I guess you are infinite loop, so increasing the stack will just make it take longer to die

@PauloCereda kind of

6:47 PM
@DavidCarlisle LOLOLOLOL

oh you have \\ you want \string\\ in \diectlua

@DavidCarlisle I also tried with i=1,2 without more success
@DavidCarlisle <3
@DavidCarlisle I'm not so familiar with lua code, I'm trying to learn but thank you :)

@RomainPicot and \string\\only

@DavidCarlisle Yeah it work now :)

@RomainPicot you have loaded but are not using luacode package, that gives you a verbatim like environment for luacode that does not require \string but like all verbatim things it has "special rules" and it's simpler normally not to use luacode and use \directlua primitive directly.

6:53 PM
Are any MikTeX users around, who might help with tex.stackexchange.com/questions/312423/beamer-presentation ? I am out of ideas how to help the OP.

@DavidCarlisle ok so better use \directlua then

@RomainPicot yes but don't forget \string (or \unexpanded etc) then:-)

@DavidCarlisle tex.stackexchange.com/questions/233435/… someone already answered the question in fact :P

@RomainPicot excellent answer that!

@DavidCarlisle So I upvoted :)

7:38 PM
@barbarabeeton OP shows a code section with the commands "latex" dvips" and "dvipdf" :-)

@DavidCarlisle -- okay. (i'm just an inveterate skeptic.)

@barbarabeeton you may yet be proved right. It's not as if there is that good a correlation between what OP say they have done, and what they have done.

@JosephWright: could you delete this entry? meta.tex.stackexchange.com/a/6707/3094 It's invalid. :)

8:11 PM
@PauloCereda Done

@DavidCarlisle thank you for updating the license on the wordcount package.

8:24 PM
@StrongBad am I imagining it or was there a question about that licence here recently (I just searched and couldn't find it) actually you should thank @barbarabeeton who dug out an old correspondence with Michael's family giving authorisation, that package just got missed at the time.

@PauloCereda -- i've filled in the chosen numbers on the card for the great duck giveaway, but i found that 098 was punched without any evidence of it having been chosen. so i unpunched 098. please verify, and correct if necessary.

@DavidCarlisle I asked in here a couple of days ago: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/29986773#29986773

@StrongBad ah was in chat, that explains why I didn't see it earlier today:-) (I was going to leave a comment about the ctan update, not that texlive is updating yet but Karl will no doubt add it to the updates once they restart)

8:42 PM
@DavidCarlisle this was my first interaction with CTAN. I am totally impressed.

@StrongBad well you were lucky this time as @barbarabeeton saw your comment (here I guess) so contacted me and ctan in parallel with your query:-)
@StrongBad but given it's all spare time volunteer work they do an amazing job of handling dozens of updates a week apart from weird licence queries about authors no longer with us.

@barbarabeeton thank you for helping out with CTAN on my wordcount package query.

@StrongBad I still think counting words is a silly activity:-)

@DavidCarlisle the fact that they were even willing to consider a "weird license query" about an old and rarely used and potentially useless package is amazing.

@PauloCereda Oh good, that wasn't mine
@PauloCereda 1 and 200 is such a small range. I can't use 298 (for Uranium, of course)

8:53 PM
@Canageek some of us are not constrained by such irritating technicalities

@Canageek Uranium 298? That's a strange isotope :D

@Canageek -- if you suggest nicely, maybe @PauloCereda will stretch the range for the next grand drawing.

@ChristianHupfer Errr, 238
@barbarabeeton Ohhhh, @PauloCereda I think @barbarabeeton has a great idea ;)

@Canageek Yes, but still outside of the range. How about using the element number, 92?

@ChristianHupfer Hmm, that is an idea. I'll go update my guess if it is free

8:56 PM
@PauloCereda seen Psmith recently?

@ChristianHupfer (I rarely think in terms of element number, as it doesn't come up much in chemistry)

@Canageek Haven't checked that...

@Canageek -- was still free the last time i looked.

@Canageek Yes, of course. The small bunch of electrons outside in the hull is sufficient :-P

@DavidCarlisle -- but isn't @PauloCereda supposed to be writing his thesis?

8:58 PM
@PauloCereda and @Canageek: What have chemists ever done for us? ;-)

@barbarabeeton when he's not running international gambling syndicates duck givaways you mean?

@ChristianHupfer -- the "lavendar hill mob" wouldn't have had nearly as satisfying conclusion without them.

@ChristianHupfer Pretty much. :D

@samcarter Well it sounds as if he/she needs to run updmap, but people whose problem description consist of "it doesn't work" are difficult to help.

@Canageek Well, it's Physics in the very end anyway ... :-P

9:01 PM
@ChristianHupfer That is more believable when you haven't worked with physicists who don't get why you can't calculate the outcome of reactions ;)

@Canageek Because chemistry is still 'alchemy' ? ;-)
@Canageek: Did I tell you, that I am a Physicist? :D

@ChristianHupfer Because the energies our reactions happen at are rounding errors to nuclear people, mostly. (Also way more variables.)
@ChristianHupfer I'd like to argue that point, but I do crystallography, and getting crystals is pretty much black magic, sooooo....
@ChristianHupfer I guessed. I worked in a nuclear physics lab for a summer as an undergrad with HPGe detectors.

@Canageek Sounds like 'Academy of Arcane Arts' in Skyrim :D
@Canageek Detecting cosmic rays etc?

@ChristianHupfer Monitoring 131I and 137Cs arriving in Vancouver rainwater and seaweed after the Fukushima disaster.

@Canageek Ah, yes. Iodine from decay...

9:23 PM
@ChristianHupfer Yep, and easy to move from place to place on wind.
There, I've now spent most of the morning going through my Medeley archive and adding every paper with uranium and 2,2'-bipy or a derivative to my paper
Citation count: 92 and rising. >.>

@Canageek Uranium citation count ... 92 ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Hah, I wish. Would make my job easier. I swear, this one crystallographer has probably put out that many papers on this topic alone, he gets like one a month.

@Canageek \documentclass{somecrystallographyjournal} \usepackage{papertext} \begin{document} \papertext[100]\end{document}, most likely ;-)

@ChristianHupfer Hah, I wish. He works for some big research institution in France, doesn't have his own lab group. As far as I can tell he just spits out uranium coordination polymers into crystallography journals to keep busy. Short papers, but really good, old school, crystallography. Doesn't DO anything with them, but grabs a lot of 'firsts' (First 3D uranium coord. poly. First chiral uranium CP, etc.)
Ok, hg push done, going to go do some crystal farming then get back to writing

2 hours later…
11:14 PM
@Canageek Next contest will be a wider range, I promise. :)
@Joseph: thanks! :)
