@Burgi Are you sure you're not getting it backwards?
Usually it's the employees who think surveys are anonymous while HR demands it to not be.

hi bob.
drivers reinstalled, win 10 "inplace" reinstalled and I am back to square one
in the meanwhile I found this: answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/…
is it possible to do this via regedit?

Go to Control panel...Power Options, and select Choose What the Power Buttons Do on the left.

Then select Change Settings That are Currently Unavailable near the top center of screen...
(i.e., can I "uncheck fast startup" from the registry?)

Bob
@Federico Both "restart" and the shutdown -s -t 0 command bypass fast startup.

yeah, I managed to uncheck it, still black screen :(

ok, this is odd. The alt-history mecha anime I'm watching is apparently a spinoff of a japanese dating game.
@JourneymanGeek and apparently this japanese dating sim game is a spinoff of the Lovecraftian Cthulhu Mythos: m.imgur.com/a/3wZ1u
Although that could maybe be explained by a bizarre combination of tentacles.

5:19 PM
So yeah uploading 3k photos to onedrive from firefox is a bad idea

Can someone please tell me if I'm going mad? :( See comments to my answer

A: Retrieve the array indexes from a range

JonnoUsing your sample data (Note - I've mixed up row 2 and 3 so you can see they're performing a lookup, not just assuming positions): The formula: =SUM(INDEX(Sheet1!C:XFD,MATCH(A1,Sheet1!A:A,0),0)) This adds up all columns from C to XFD (The last possible column in Excel 2007+), by finding t...

Bob
@Jonno Attempting to read the question and answer make my head hurt -_-
All I can think of when I see questions like this is "why on earth are you doing this in Excel?!?!"

@Bob
Well that wasn't the message I wanted to send.

I will stick to for /f and wmic I can get my head around those ;)

Bob
@Jonno Hm?
I usually just end up dumping to csv and doing the processing externally :\

5:22 PM
Yeah it took a fair few attempts to get the actual problem.
Unfortunately it seems they're using a spreadsheet, but giving sample data in wordpad or similar, exponentially confusing matters.

Bob
@Jonno Anyway, at a glance your answer looks right..?

I just ... I just don't know anymore

Bob
Have an upvote anyway shrug
If there's one language I absolutely hate, it's gotta be Excel formulae.
is it even turing complete?

I was mostly just hoping someone could verify I'm not missing something glaringly obvious... I've analysed the same blocks of cells trying to work out where they're finding an issue

Bob
@Jonno Just ask them to give you an xlsx?
If you're concerned about security, open it on onedrive and let MS do the dangerous work :P

5:26 PM
I'm terrified what I'd get though. I'm going to find out at the end of all this they're actually programming a DVR or something.
2

LOL
Yeah, DVRs are terrifying.

Bob
:D

OK. What's with the flags?

Bob
...flags?
@DavidPostill What flags?

@Bob Two just wizzed past before I could open them. The blue circle on my Avatar

Bob
5:28 PM
Oh. Must've missed them.

Perhaps it was another room?

@DavidPostill They keep changing and many times copy each other. And don't get me started on name changes, unifications, all the political stuff... Flags are weird, man.

Bob
@DavidPostill Almost certainly.

@ThatBrazilianGuy Not those sort of flags ;)

[vexillology.SE]

5:31 PM
Chat flags ;)

Nah, I don't care that much about them to open an exclusive chat room ;p

It must have been another room as the "horde of mods" hasn't arrived here ;)

I.. I don't... So now they've posted a screenshot of "how it looks with my formula"... But... But they've... Changed it...
They're changing the formula... And ... I...
I was supposed to guess this from their wordpad drawings... I think...

Never, ever, trust user input.

I hope to god this spreadsheet is the cure to every major ailment known to mankind.

5:38 PM
@Jonno Time to exit. It's a chamelion question

Anyone know a good alternative to Putty for doing serial on windows?

kitty !

I was looking at OpenSSH and Powershell, but I'm not sure if that's what I need.

Same code base tho

@DavidPostill I've accidentally banged my head and forgotten everything I previously knew about Excel (until another question comes up.) Darn..!

5:40 PM
@WilliamMariager cygwin putty?
WTF "I came across a pink deviation"?

Q: How to decompress this file

nepqI tried to put my own server, updated the VPS, I downloaded the latest version of the Linux server, I tried to extract the server, and I came across a pink deviation. How can I resolve this?

Feb 16 at 18:53, by DavidPostill
I've warned you all before. If you post something that gets flagged we get visited by a horde of mods. Please think before you post.
Think before you flag, too.
7

ohai @Undo fancy seeing you here

Oy

@Undo Yeah, someone flagged something I quoted from a question ... :/

@DavidPostill Probably more likely to be the WTF that got flagged... WTF.

5:43 PM
Ah. OK
Too late to edit it.

And yeah, flagger, that definitely isn't offensive. Don't flag things that aren't offensive, people don't take well to it.

sigh Whoever's flagging stuff, stop. Either you can stop being irritating now or we can make you stop for a while.

@DavidPostill Meh, no need. It's a common phrase in colloquial conversation, which is what this is.

Bob
Huh. What got flagged?

@ArtOfCode Exactly. I dismissed the flag myself. Was that a bad thing to do?

5:45 PM
@DavidPostill Not at all, that was the same thing I picked.

Bob
@DavidPostill ...since when can see see flags on our own posts

I wonder which of you, me, or Undo actually got the flag.

@Bob Since you hit 10k in combined network rep.

@Bob Since chat

@Bob My remark above regarding the oneboxed question

5:46 PM
@ArtOfCode Wasn't me, it scolded me for trying to counterflag something that hadn't been flagged

@Undo Oh. It didn't for me, so it was me or David...

Bob
@Undo I know about seeing flags, but I was under the impression that flags on our own posts were not visible.
Oh, great. Who decided to test that theory?
2

There were two flags. I saw a blue bar. Now we get more mods :/
Some flagged "Yeah, someone flagged something I quoted from a question ... :/" as well.

Three mods here from flags so far...

Does it not tell you who flags something...?

5:48 PM
@Jonno only mods of the parent site of the chatroom

@Jonno Not regular users.

No, unfortunately not. Not even room owners :/

Mods and CM's see it.

Bob
@Doorknob Who are unfortunately currently asleep.
@ArtOfCode Speaking of which, would it be much trouble to drag a CM in here to sort it out?

@JourneymanGeek will be able to see it (unless it is too late)

5:49 PM
@Bob We're already on it :)

Bob
There's really no point having mystery flag abusers around. Just suspend them and be done with it, IMO.
It's obviously only done to troll anyway.

@Bob Yep, that's the attitude we take.

@ArtOfCode Thanks.

Bob
@ArtOfCode Thanks.

And being annoying enough for us to have to bother a CM because of you is definitely a very bad idea
8

5:51 PM
Especially if we happen to choose one in a timezone where it's about four in the morning.

Or Shog
Annoying Shog is always a bad idea.

Bob
Speaking of four in the morning, I really should be sleeping.
2

It is known.

Bob
@WilliamMariager Is there anything wrong with PuTTY?
Generally, when you want an alternative to a program, it helps to know why you want that alternative.
Otherwise we just start listing things with vaguely similar functionality, which Google can do just as well.

WHAT DID I MISS?!

5:57 PM
EVERYTHING

flag party!

OMG, colour me disappointed.

can we get some more mods in here to help out with it

Hi @JohnB

hai joker

5:59 PM
How many mods do you reckon we can get?

@jokerdino Some joker (haha) was flagging me ... :/

flag all of joker's messages until we set a record

quick, flag all the things*
* disclaimer: do not do this

A "horde"?

haha heh.

Bob
5:59 PM
@jokerdino That's a shade of blue, right?

@Doorknob :)

@Bob I suppose so.

Bob
How does one colour a dino a shade of blue?

Root access is already blue as it is.

Bob
Gonna need a large bucket for that.
Or maybe a swimming pool.

6:00 PM
Shrink the dino and paint it.

@Bob very, very cautiously

Actually, don't.

That was for you, David.
Don't put WTF again.

such a joker, dino.

6:02 PM
@jokerdino Art of Code seems to disagree ...

This is going circular.

@JohnB ultra circular

Bob

@ArtOfCode oh god

6:04 PM
Wut. Oh.

Bob
Doesn't look very disappointed :(

Tea should be cold.

Have you heard the joke about the self-quoting message?

Bob
Also, you should probably get those spots looked at.

@ArtOfCode it even pings yourself if you do that! Who knew

6:05 PM
@JohnB you can ping yourself in the future too ;)

Bob
@ArtOfCode Oh god that one.

@Doorknob how?

@Doorknob like

Bob
I remember breaking chat (and it got moved to the sandbox)

@Bob Those are actually dirt patches on the skin. Can't reach them when showering.

6:05 PM
@Doorknob this

oooh I see :)
crafty
that is how we will detect any robots with weak Ai

oh I get it

they'll get stuck forever reading those messages

Let me try it.

Bob
Yes, we were very bored that day :P

6:09 PM
@Bob O_O

Pretty sure I deleted most of those uberquoting messages

@DavidPostill Flag that sonuva.

I actually remeber you guys doing that waaay back
I have been here too long ;p

Bob
@ArtOfCode That one was before your time :P

@Bob huh, okay

6:11 PM
He said something and @HackToHell doesn't know it.

@ThatBrazilianGuy I saw that ;)

Bob
LOL

fffffffffffffffff

Bob
We bringing the old memes back? :D

NOT AGAIN

6:12 PM
Might as well go full swag.

I haven't been here long enough for them to be old ...

Bob
Actually, that one wasn't that long ago.
Or was it? Time flies.

If David doesn't know it, it's pretty old.

Well, here's what @HackToHell has to do about all those removed messages:

I mean, he lasted long enough to be a room owner now.

6:15 PM
Everything is awesome!!!!!!!!!
2

@Dave I want some of the stuff you used ;p

one day, one day, I am going to make something that hooks into chat.se and I GET TO READ THEM evil face
2

@Dave You ruined the star.

Fixed!

Suave Dave.

6:16 PM
@HackToHell Nah, you need an fkey to fetch deleted messages

@ArtOfCode I can before it's deleted

True enough

After it's deleted, I can't read it unless I am mod/room owner I guess

Exactly

6:17 PM
And even then not if some mod comes along and purges it

No point deleting it if everyone can read it.

@ThatBrazilianGuy Have that running xD
That needs a better UI
Blah no free time these days
I finally can code properly, but alas no time :'(
@ThatBrazilianGuy It's bloody fun too

@ThatBrazilianGuy yeah the UI bundled with it
The d3 chart is okay, but needs more polish
and is kinda slow
I can't do comaprisions
I should fix it and send a pull request

Bob
@ArtOfCode The proposed method has actually been mentioned a few times, and would be ridiculously easy to implement. Would take all of 5 mins, if that.
But then I realise it's kinda pointless and I'm never gonna read them anyway.
Not to mention the flood of edit messages and who knows what else :\

6:34 PM
People put all sorts of silly things on GitHub...

@HackToHell: The time is 13:37 EST.. Time to raise our hoodies.

@onebree Yes

@allquixotic thank you -- I will be safe and put both commands in my wiki article

7:25 PM
That's how you do it, yup

My little reactor :)

@Bob, @allquixotic Hi! Sorry, it's been a busy week, didn't have time spare for the bot. I'll check it out soon.

lmfao exactly

@Zirak what were you (needing to) check out?

@allquixotic The login didn't work
Or did it?
I could've sworn one of the two of you told me last weekend the login stopped working

7:34 PM
!!tell 27837040 say it works now

@Zirak it works now

@Dave Well, at least IT would be able to tell when he was looking for a new job... printer suddenly out of all the inks.

Are there types in excel? Like arrays, numbers, etc....

@William it's worse than that; there are display types and underlying (value) types.

@allquixotic Oh, cool. Could your make a PR?

7:36 PM
@allquixotic so is it VBa data types
Google is giving me visual basic stuff not excel. Silly google

@Zirak I'm not yet sure if @Bob committed his code or pushed it to my branch yet
it's just sitting on my dedi ATM I think
He ended up using webdriverio

You run things on an ATM?
2
They have standard x86?

can mods see deleted chat posts?

@William yep

@Zirak At The Moment.

7:43 PM
Holy name collision :P
Interestingly, I see the highlight, but it doesn't seem to trigger a ping.

@WilliamMariager I think pings work on the last person to talk, while highlighting is probably more generic
Or did it ping you into here?

@WilliamMariager I might change it back to Liam or something because it does get confusing sometimes. That is funny it is highlighted.

@Mokubai It didn't. :)
@William Well, people have taken to calling me Bill to annoy me. I might as well embrace it. :P

It is probably highlighted in case it was meant for you and not me.
@allquixotic I have decided that there are basically three types although I'm not sure. Numbers, Formulas and Text
oh also dates i think

7:59 PM
@William Dates are just numbers too iirc

@Mokubai internally maybe but they strip data so I wouldn't say they are numbers exactly.

You can change the formatting on a "date" field and it will give you a basic number
The formatting is just showing it to you in a pretty format
@William Exact same number copied to 3 cells, different formatting:
No data is stripped at all, it's just formatted

@Mokubai: its formatted based off of the regional settings set on the computer.

@Mokubai Excel stores days based on the number of days passed since 1900.
Serially.

@MichaelFrank That's still just a number though, it's not a specific "date" type...
The formatting just says "treat this as 00:00:01 1st January 1900 plus this many days and this fraction of a day"

8:12 PM
epoch

@Dave Kinda? Epoch dates start at 1970 though.
Or is that just what the type of dating is called?
Googles

In the fields of chronology and periodization, an epoch is an instant in time chosen as the origin of a particular era. The "epoch" then serves as a reference point from which time is measured. Time measurement units are counted from the epoch so that the date and time of events can be specified unambiguously. Events taking place before the epoch can be dated by counting negatively from the epoch, though in pragmatic periodization practice, epochs are defined for the past, and another epoch is used to start the next era, therefore serving as the ending of the older preceding era. The whole purpose...

8:35 PM
So how would I get the following to work? ={1,2,3}=A6:A9

Work how? You already have the numbers in a (theoretical) array of A6:A9, why do you need to re-array-ise it?

@Mokubai comparison see if they are equal. It beats checking each one manually by index.

@William Array Constants: support.office.com/en-us/article/…
Basically press Ctrl + Shift + Enter when entering the formula you gave will evaluate it the way you want
Or not, hmmm.
Always returns true

8:54 PM
@Mokubai Yes I was about to say that :)

Oh. For some reason the conditional is only checking the first value

Yes that is what I had concluded also.

@William You have to use an array of cells to test the array fully
And then test for all trues

or visual basic applications if I can figure that out

Or VBA, probably quicker. Then it's just a for x in range(blah) loop.

9:07 PM
> Most people aren’t used to the kind of USB storage performance the T3 can deliver. Really. So no matter what you do, don’t buy a T3 (or a T1). Speed addiction is a scary thing. Seriously, if you buy a T3 and find yourself harboring a sudden urge to burn salt in Utah with a jet car, don’t blame me.

Arrow Launcher - I think I found my new favourite launcher!

@MichaelFrank Not good for the misanthropist, too much focus on people and doing stuff with people. shudder

Sometimes I wonder if Microsoft actual cares if there Microsoft phones are successful.

@William I think it's a case of not sticking all their eggs in one basket.

9:23 PM
looks like i am going to upgrade the landlords computer for WAY less than i would have thought. add one cheapskate who would spend Days shopping + minimal needs + used parts from regular peoples upgrading + leftovers from previous builds + not needing a xeon or the latest greatest = like 1/4th the price. Lets see how much BS i have to go through to get it actually working. Will It Boot?

I'm slightly joking(you are right), I just no nobody that actually has a Windows phone. Nobody....

@William We used to have them for work. They were really good.

used to hahhaha. Then why are they gone?

Unfortunately someone decided we needed to use a specific app for job management that only works on Android.
Right hand, left hand problems.

I bet their battery life was better then Android. My android needs 2 batteries to get through the day while my iphone lasts the whole day.
I have more apps on my iPhone and no background apps on android.

9:26 PM
Yea, I would only charge it every other day. But then again, we didn't live off our work phones.

I hate imperial length measurements

imperial stormtroopers attack!

Yeah, well they're crap too. Couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with another barn.
When I take my place as Benevolent Overlord the troops will take mandatory training and target practice.

9:42 PM
Dammit. I'm not getting VoLTE. My phone's dropping to HSPA+ whenever I make a voice call.

@bwDraco have to turn it on on the verizon website

It's AT&T. Nexus 5X.
Does this mean there will be places where I can get data but no talk or text?

hm, I thought text was sent as data
is that not true?
I think on at least one phone I've had turning data off meant no texts

9:57 PM
@JohnB MMS, but not SMS.

ah

@JohnB Sometimes

maybe it was a software thing instead of a network limitation?

By default SMS is sent using GSM control channel. But various more recent extensions allow SMS to be sent as data via GPRS, but not all networks support it. By default all networks support the SDCC method.

well that's a bunch of letters I'm unfamiliar with

10:02 PM
GPRS = Data on 2G networks.

@bwDraco That sounds like a glorious place, how do I get there?
No talk, just internet.

@Mokubai Set any phone to 4G only, done.
On some phones you can just force CS deregistration.

@qasdfdsaq Options include "LTE/3G/2G", "3G/2G", "3G only" and "2G only". No LTE only :(

You have to go to the testing menu to get access to 4G only options.
Samsung make it awkwardly hard to access (needs root), most other manufacturers don't.
Networks and manufacturers like to hide the option to stop people turning it on accidentally then complaining their calls aren't working.

Does disabling LTE or HSPA extend battery life? I find that assertion rather odd...
For starters, it would cause the phone to make inefficient use of spectrum.

10:15 PM
Course it can.
LTE especially is power hungry.

10:28 PM
Hmm

"once read" cannot possibly constitute a "meeting of the minds".

@bwDraco Dont know about HSPA , but there are many rumors (back some in time) that running gs?? over the high speed 4 stuff is more battery efficient even when it took more time to do so.

This is the same user who was "decorating" his headings like ".::::: Download Master Information :::::."

10:30 PM
People were even disabling it , when it did not matter much.

Meeting of the minds (also referred to as mutual agreement, mutual assent or consensus ad idem) is a phrase in contract law used to describe the intentions of the parties forming the contract. In particular it refers to the situation where there is a common understanding in the formation of the contract. This condition or element is often considered a necessary requirement to the formation of a contract. == History == Richard Austen-Baker has suggested that the perpetuation of the idea of 'meeting of minds' may come from a misunderstanding of the Latin term consensus ad idem, which actually means...

@Zirak @allquixotic They're on the WebDriver branch of allq's repo. Your choice if you want to pull them, but they're not compatible with nightmare/hound.

@bwDraco It reminds me of the "legal" junk people put in their email sigs ...

Bob
I did commit a selector fix for the nightmare runner on master but there were other issues.

> "binding contract once read": That can't possibly constitute a "meeting of the minds" and therefore can't be legally enforceable. Also, you don't have any right to bind Stack Exchange to any such agreement.
I'm not going to risk a legal threat, though, so I'm not responding directly to that user, nor am I removing the clause.
I was about to post that as a comment but I'm not risking it.
