@CindyAskew Welcome!!

2 hours later…
1:56 AM
@CindyAskew Ever since you've shown up here it seems we're on the opposite sides of stuff! Don't stop on my account! :) You're an asset here, I hope you stick around.
@ElendilTheTall 57 out of 60, moving targets?!? Awesome!
I think this one, although it's fine to crop:
One thing...I don't know if it's possible, but those jars in the background are Mezzetta jars. They have writing along the bottom.
If it's possible, I'd love for that to be visible. It doesn't matter if it's legible, but it would be cool if the judges could see that the background of the photo is made of their jars :)

2:31 AM
@Jolenealaska I havn't been here long and I realize I'm a newbie. I'm not trying to disrespect anyone because I truly value others' experience and knowledge. Yes, it seems like we butt heads a lot but I just think that we have different experiences. I try to be open to other ideas and hope that others will be the same to mine.

It's a very good thing. I know it seems odd, but I'm a newbie too. I will be a "yearling" in two weeks. Don't be concerned that we seem to butt heads. I think I've written better answers as a result.

Hiya.

Very generous attitude and answer. Much appreciated. You are obviously well respected and very knowledgeable and I appreciate your kind feedback. I'm not only new to chat here, but anywhere, as during workdays I just don't have the time I would like to be more involved. Time here is 11 pm so I'm calling it a night. Due to computer issues I have much more catching up to do this weekend than I would like. Thanks again. :)

2:48 AM
Good night.

@Cerberu Thanks for the welcome. I'm going down for the night but hope I can become friends with you and many others as time goes on.

Count on it!
Bye.

8 hours later…
10:35 AM
@ElendilTheTall are you here??

11:26 AM
@jolenealaska I am now

Hi there!

So whaddya think? Is my chosen picture the best one?
Is it adequate?
Can the lettering on the jars be made more evident?

Let me switch to my laptop and I'll see what i can do

Should I remake the damn sandwich??
BTW, I've got meatballs ready to go in the oven for sandwich #2.
I'm writing a question about it on main right now.
Here's another thing I want to bounce off you...

11:31 AM
ok...

Is it too much to call for toasted pine nuts?? What about cooked wild rice??

hmmm
I personally don't associate either with greece
IIRC they do vine leaves
are you using those?

Nope, although I would if Mezzetta made them. The sandwich just needs some crunch and they're actually very Greek...
As far as the wild rice, I want something to add to my "falafel" things to make them not like felafel...cause that's not Greek at all.

One thing I can do that might be fun is to ...Huh!!
Well, how bout that!

11:39 AM

That DOES look better! :)

Not much I can do about the jars I'm afraid
glass is hard to photograph at the best of times

The sandwich looks great though, thanks!

no problemo
as for pine nuts, no I don't that'd be asking too much
they only take a couple of minutes

The wild rice is something I was thinking about adding to the "garbanzo balls" (I'm so tempted to name the sandwich that, but that would probably bite me in the ass :)
Diced, roasted red pepper would adequately de-felafel them, I think.

11:44 AM
yeah

So when it gets light (3-4 hours from now) I should be able to snap the pita pictures. Would it help to add lightly colored water to the jars to bring out the Mezzetta?

possibly!
lighting is the tricky thing, you have to just catch the embossing

OOH one more thing! Can you get rid of the little spot above the sandwich? Above the left sandwich just to the right of center?
The nature of the sandwich I'll be photographing next is that I have all time in the world. The torta quickly started to look aged.

11:59 AM
damn laptop is slow
that's what you can get me with your prize money ;)

Nice!
I'm thinking maybe capers in my garbanzo balls too.
Nah...I'll put them in the sandwich though.

YAY!!!
there's the $25,000!!
That money would be sooooooo nice right about now!

i hear that

I really like the effect of the red oil seeping into the roll.
That's just looks good!

12:05 PM
:)
I think your breadcrumbing question might be better off on ELU btw

Yep, I was just thinking that.

the best description for meatball consistency I have read is 'not sloppy, but not dry'

Is there a rule against placing identical questions on 2 stacks??

I'm not sure if it's a rule, but it's frowned upon

Ok, I'll let it ripen here. Not sloppy, but not dry works in a pinch.
My avocado answer is up to 99 upvotes. It's fucking killing me.

12:15 PM
lol
well, I'm going for a nap
see you later, sandwichinator

Have a nice nappy! Expect a ping in 3-4 hours! :)
Afterwhile photophile!

1 hour later…
1:36 PM
The meatballs just came out of the oven. HOLY CRAP those are good! :) Someday maybe I'll learn to cook. Next up, GARBANZO BALLS:)

Garbanzetta balls

HEEEHEEEEE! :)
Ok, now I can't let it go...
It's kind of a dark horse entry anyway. It can only win if they're specifically wanting a vegetarian choice.
I think I can do it all (almost) in the food processor. Onion, Mezzetta garlic, mint, cilantro, lemon zest, lemon juice, cumin, oregano, Mezetta olive oil, Mezzetta Roasted red pepper. WHIR...
one can garbanzos, rinsed, whir briefly
In a mixing bowl I'll add egg and milk soaked bread
Whaddya think?
Hopefully I can bake them, but I'm not totally averse to frying.
Here we go! Nothing ventured and all that...
Damn this would be so much easier if everyone that likes to cook just took the plunge and bought a $16 digital scale. "How much mint?" "Gee, I dunno, this much"

2:38 PM
Here's another thing (recipe writing is challenging) my soul cries out to stress, "Taste the damn marinade before you use it! It's going to flavor your chicken, your beans and your bread! Make sure you like the heat level especially!"
Of course I have this terrible tendency to assume everyone is stupid until they prove otherwise.

3:08 PM
@ElendilTheTall Marco?

2 hours later…
4:46 PM
@ElendilTheTall I sure hope you have a slow workday on Monday! I just finished the garbanzetta balls :) But I'm just too tired to snap the photos. I'm going to put some pork shoulder in the slow cooker with some teriyaki sauce, and get a few hours of sleep. The deadline for the contest is Monday at 11:59pm ET...
So that's 5am Tuesday for you, right? (London time?) and 8pm Monday for me...
Damn, I am getting sleepy...
BTW, I'm on a roll. The garbanzetta balls are really good! I've never even made falafel before, I'm totally winging it :) And yes, I did it almost all of it in the food processor. It should definitely get high marks for ease even though the list of ingredients is a mile long.
Weird that you're only an hour more removed from New York time than me...
I tend to ramble when I'm tired, and I'm rambling to myself. I think that means it's time for me to get some sleep. CYA in about 15 hours!

2 hours later…
6:37 PM
Well, that was stream of consciousness stuff

7:00 PM
24 hours awake has that effect on me :)
