Daily up/down vote limit reached; come back in 23 hours.
I need another 93 reps, just sayin'
and then you will have 1 more 10K user

Way to pace yourself ;-)

;) Things have been good, the JS queue is going to be perfectly clean in a few weeks
I will have to learn another language ;)
I wonder, is there a query that shows the tag with most unanswered questions?

Yes.
you have been doing remarkable work on the Javascript.
Some of the ones that were 'big' have dropped off the chart entirely now. The graph only tracks what is the current top15, not the top 15 as it was a few months back

it's been a fun ride I must say, I learned quite a bit on Code Review
seems like python/php/c++ are the three big ones
I am most comfortable with PHP but far from an expert

php will get you badges, but maybe not places ;-)

1:12 AM
places?
I am most content with 10K really, if that is what you mean
I was already content with 4K ;]

naah, I believe PHP is on the decline, that's all. ;-)
but, that is jut based on the derogatory comments I keep hearing about it.
(I have a few PHP apps installed on my home server).

Oh, I am a dedicated ABAP developer ( manager )
Currently working at the UN, saving the world ;)
or at least making sure that soldiers get food on time and within budget

Really! Huh, and you mess with javascript...
Quite the difference.

I worked at the New York Times before that

I despise SAP products .... but normally because they are all about tring to cntrol things, and I don't like controls like budgets and timesheets, etc.

1:16 AM
JavaScript is a big thing there, and I had thought about switching fulltime to JS
Same thing at the UN, it's all about control, my customers are not happy campers

SAP is a great product, it is so customizable.
They can customize any business to fit the model.
even apparently the UN
I almost went the SAP consultant route last century.
Was involved in a SAP project (from the database side) and there was an opportunity that came up. At the time I said 'no', and then wondered whether I had done the right thing. Now I am content.... things worked out.

Any ideas on a better title?

Q: Better way to compact the following code

Alfonzo LeFredI was working on a subtype of list in python that acts as a list that should never raise an IndexError (every key you input that's greater than the length of the list gets wrapped around). I was having quite a few problems however implementing it properly for slices, who have a LOT of base cases....

@rolfl it's a golden cage, hard to leave, not too uncomfortable ;)

huh, that one is challenging.... 'Simplify Wrapped List item retrieval'
I can believe it.
I am just surprized that the UN pays competitively ;-)

They do not
However, due to a minor loophole I dont need to pay taxes

1:23 AM
Oh, that is a minor loophole.
Can I get one?

The US is aware, so I can only do this for 2 years, finishing in June
Are you a US citizen?
Or married perhaps to a non-US citizen ?

Well, for a start, I am in Canada ;-)

Ah, so that could work
married?

I'm not seriously looking.
Yes
(that chat timing was off).

so if Ms Rolfl gets a post with the UN, then you can get a G4 visa
then you can get an SSA job, and tadaa no taxes

1:25 AM
Do they have any kindergarten teaching jobs at the UN?

because G4 visa people dont live in the US technically, and SSA dont work in the US technically
sorry :\
noops

(the politicians probably could do with some kindergarten common sense ;-)

Yeah

"Play nicely boys".
"Put your penises away!"

What an interesting message to walk in on.

My wife has some 'stories from the classroom' that are hilarious.

Lol, I'm not even going to look through the transcript to see what started this. I don't think I even want to know. :D

Like the junior kindergarten kid who got his finger stuck in the toilet-paper dispenser while half-way through a #2....

...exactly.

LOL

LOL indeed
So happy my kids are not reading this, they'd be like WTH??

Q: Speed up long running Ruby code

user2270029I'm running code which works fast locally, but when it's on Heroku it's slow. Heroku says this is because there is less memory and CPU power on my hosting than locally. I'm trying to rewrite my code so it's more effecient, but I'm not sure how. This is what they said: "...[my] method (especially...

@Doorknob Needz tips: (gimmetehcodez) how do I getz 10k on SO?
@rolfl Serious question for you: how the heck did you get to be room owner?

@hichris123 Answer more stuff. :P

I wa made one by the existing owner.
(it was a surprise to me.... )

@Doorknob ... thanks. :P Any cough specific cough advice?
@rolfl And who was that crazy person?

@hichris123 Ummm, answer more questions.

but, it is occasionally nice. Mat's Mug

@hichris123 See, you don't get any rep from that. ;)
Ever since 20k I really just don't care anymore; the only reason I kept answering is to mod better :P

@Doorknob If I did... calculates I would have a ton of rep (2800 helpful flags).

heh :P

1:44 AM
Sorry, 2811 to be exact. :P
Moar specific help plz @Door?
See, you don't get the knob part back until you answer. :P

@Doorknob - for your enjoyment ... I decided to chase down the [badge:deputy] on CR.....

@hichris123 Ummm... what do you mean? Also this isn't really CR-related - let's go back to the Tavern :P

Does anyone have experience working with MVC? Some good experience...?

I did it mostly by flagging @Jamal's comments as obsolete.

@Doorknob sigh But I like it in here!

:P

See, an objective win!

@rolfl For my enjoyment? Why would I enjoy that? :P

@rolfl No, I hate Obj-C. :P

I'm bored. I feel like making a bot that automatically stars "lol" in this room.

because Jamal had to approve (most of) the flags by deleting his comments ;-)

Q: Prevent repeated starring and unstarring of messages

badpIt appears that you get to blink stars on any message as frequently as you want, as long as you want. WTF of the day (naming):
Private Sub put_ChangeControlStatus(status As Boolean)
    cmdImport.Enabled = status
    lstCommand.Enabled = status
End Sub

not sure I get it
in fact, sure I don't get it

the method is called put_ChangeControlStatus... it enables/disables controls... it's just me then? put_ChangeControlStatus is just as readable as EnableControls(enabled As Boolean)?

Yeah, but from the context yu gave it was not clear... now it is more clear, but still not exactly WTF.
I read 'CHangeControl' as being some sort of version control... ;-)

bah, maybe it's just that shitty code base that's getting to me...

If it is enabling and disabling buttons, then it is a crappy name
@JerryCoffin - boo

@rolfl Wow! The JS guys have been doing some serious hammering it looks like.

I look at that graph, then I look at @konijn's rep score, and I think something's not adding up

3:05 AM
Konijn has been hammering away pretty hard at the JS Q's. and you can see it in his badge and rep scores.
Seriously, he has 92 revival badges

true, but those are all 'old'

This still makes me laugh. xD

Interesting observation.... I have about the same number of badges as konijn, and the same number of answers ... but double the rep. That means that Java is worth more than Javascript?

that's a good one too:

@rolfl ok found it. you could also have said "well two messages just before you showed up here" :]
is the battle still on in the other.. (peeks at PCG's chatroom)

3:32 AM
@Jamal Here's my little addition.

@JerryCoffin Oh good, that's not a huge point to disagree on. I went with camelCase there since it was already being used, but yeah, it doesn't matter.

@Jamal Right -- not really disagreement so much as pointing out that while he needs (or at least wants) to do something, it doesn't have to be that exact thing.

Yeah, now that I think about it again, I'm not sure why I said "should be." I guess I got too caught up with all the capitalization. :-P

@Jamal Happens to all of us now and again.

:-)

3:44 AM
But CamelCase is so much cooler-sounding than snake_case.

So, what about zombies on Meta ... what do they count for? meta.codereview.stackexchange.com/questions?sort=unanswered

Won't that be like talking to yourself ... hey, look what I did ... ;-) ?

They say NSA has registered that feed @Malachi

Code, why you no work?!

oh maybe I should read the API correctly

could help...
same goes for my validation.

This signature...

最悪 perhaps...気持ちい悪い code doesn't really work :)

public static <T,K,D,A,M extends Map<K,D>> Collector<T,?,M> groupingBy(Function<? super T,? extends K> classifier, Supplier<M> mapFactory, Collector<? super T,A,D> downstream)

7:55 AM
why the friggin hell do they wrap it into 3 different Exceptions tho...

I need to supply a method to that signature

@Yuushi preferring the latter...
but the first kinda applies too..

@skiwi yuck.

@skiwi where did you find this monster?

It's a from Collectors.groupingBy in Java 8
Not sure how much this variant is needed
Someone wants help on this code working but not doing exactly what he wants to:
Stream<Class> stream = Stream.of(ArrayList.class);
HashMap<Class, List<Class>> map = (HashMap)stream.collect(Collectors.groupingBy(Class::getSuperclass));
But I see lots of untyped stuff and forceful casts, so wanting to fix those first
I'm not surprised it doesn't exactly work if you just blatantly cast stuff

7:58 AM
 Map<Class,List<Class>> would maybe be a good start..

More like Map<Class<?>, List<Class<?>> I think?
or doesn't it capture all types then

Map<?, List<?>> would catch all (i think)

I mean this looks more scary, but should be more correct:

<-- not muich experience with generics

    Stream<Class<?>> stream = Stream.of(ArrayList.class);
    HashMap<Class<?>, List<Class<?>>> hashMap = stream
            .collect(Collectors.groupingBy(
                    Class::getSuperclass,
                    HashMap::new,
                    Collectors.toList()
            ));
I found a funny thing though there which is worth a question
This javadoc

8:10 AM
@skiwi please spare me...
