2:18 AM
Sorry that I couldn't weigh in on any of the discussions, guys
@ArtemKaznatcheev Time to start superpinging some VIPs, then

2:40 AM
@NickStauner are you saying that a single other users activity is making you question wanting to continue your valuable contribution to this site?
If so, then you should make sure to convey this to the moderators
In case they are considering if any users are contributing largely destructive behavior
@jonsca hmm?

Just a joke now that you have that privilege
I don't know that I ever formally congratulated you, by the way. Way to go!

@jonsca ahh! cool! Btw, how can I tell what is the most viewed question on our site? Because I think I might have made the pedophelia question our heaviest hitter with this reddit spike.
@jonsca thank you! :D

There should be a way to look right on the site itself, but something like "activity" measures something different. There has to be a way to do it on SEDE

@jonsca damn it, Jeromy is ahead of my for publicist badges

2:57 AM
I don't know how outdated the data in SEDE is, but it looks like that question has beat them all at this point:
Scratch that

@jonsca why scratch that?

Lumosity is way on top. I had searched for voting instead of views
They don't reflect current numbers, but the ped one made it up to 5999 views, from the count on the site itself
5227, actually lol my stats are untrustworthy all around tonight

Interesting, so 3 are ahead

@ArtemKaznatcheev similar thing for me... except, my contributions were pathetic, but yeah

3:21 AM
@ArtemKaznatcheev why shouldnt you talk bad about another person publicly? equating them with spam? if you honestly need an answer to that question i would suggest you read up on empathy training and maybe get some help otherwise

3:32 AM
@caseyr547 I believe that you are detracting from the quality of the site by producing a large quantity of mostly poor answers.
To check if this is just my opinion, or if others believe it (beyond the indirect evidence given by the fact that you have such a low number of upvotes per answer), I discuss it with people I trust in chat.

@ArtemKaznatcheev thats inmaterial bud...there is something wrong with your personality if you think its ok to discuss me publicly in such a way

@caseyr547 Casey, honestly, give it a rest for now. Tomorrow is a new day

@ArtemKaznatcheev is that code for i'm going to keep bullying you go away?
because thats what you are your a bully
you find someone weak and you point out their faults
you went so far to try and have me suspended....
after you apologized?
thats the behaviour of someone who could become abusive

Stop making assertions about people for which you have no basis

i do have a basis @jonsca

3:46 AM
You have read a book on psychology. We are all very proud of you, but there's a great big world out there.

@jonsca no actually
and i dont seek your pride

It's okay to stick up for yourself if you feel like you've been bullied, but you've gone well above and beyond that on multiple sites now, to the point that it's obnoxious and, frankly, to the point where it's disturbing positive use of the site.

@jonsca calling me obnoxious and disturbing isnt helping

It, it's disturbing. Please read the sentence.

meh now your trying to slide out of your insults

3:50 AM
it's right up there, in unedited form ^^

yes an underhanded insult

it's obnoxious and it's disturbing

@jonsca take a class in cousniling
@jonsca take a class in cousiling

they didn't offer cousniling where I went to school
and how do you know I haven't?

its obvious
you do have to stand up to bullies that is true
and abusive people
but when you want someone to be less obnoxious or less disturbing
you act differently

3:53 AM
I'm standing up to an abusive person

who have i abused?

Everyone, emotionally

cop out
i've never even met you before

You've called out two people for being callous who I consider to be two of the more empathetic people that I've met on the site

thats a tool called revictimazation
yes and they've been jerks to me

3:56 AM
That's insulting and I'm not going to stand by and let you do that

well then stop blaiming me for other peoples bad behaviour

I don't blame you for anyone's behavior, but you certainly seem to be a catalyst in these types of situations everywhere.

meh judging me by the people who pick on me is equally wrong
since your often bullied you must attract is
another wrong stereotype

You're putting words in my mouth

yes your trying to put ideas in my head and i'm trying to explain what your purpotrating by blaiming me

4:06 AM
I think we've again reached a point in which you fail to take any responsibility for your portion of the difficulties you've been having.
While our approach could at times use a bit of fine tuning, a lot of people have tried to help you understand the existing culture of the site, and you've bit their hands off.

@jonsca oh what exactly am i suppsed to take responsiblity for again?
point out where exactly i did wrong
and i'll galdly own up to it and apologize
but your blaiming me for abusing everyone
and distrupting the entire se network
litereally

wow

4:31 AM
what exactly wow's you @Amaterasu

4:44 AM
I am not comfortable answering what 'wows' me, as I am certain my word will be misinterpreted despite my habit of saying exactly and precisely what I mean

5:07 AM
@Amaterasu that actually is an empathic statement because...as you point out you may be precise and exact....your ability to affect the same idea in another person is limited... then the behaviour of that person even if they receive the same idea often is unpredictable because everyone is different.

5:18 AM
I had a more practical reason in mind - the risk of being misinterpreted, reported and banned - partly the reason I deleted my account on this site

jonsca has a lot of points especially on meta so by psychoanalysing and reporting everything she said i will prolly be reprimanded or maybe banned for a while....but she didnt have my best interest at heart
the words she used were all pejorative
"We are all very proud of you" a untrue statement made to mean the inverse

I have never had nor have any problem with jonsca

"there's a great big world out" either i've experienced more of the world than you or your a small insignificant person

i assure you that I am not insignificant

"you've gone well above and beyond that on multiple sites now" i've reviewed your history...your being watched and have a bad repretation...another statment to make me feel bad
no no @Amaterasu i'm describing the emotions ellicted from my conversation with jonsonca
and how it was completly inapropte for her to say those things
"to the point that it's obnoxious and, frankly, to the point where it's disturbing positive use of the site." an insult using the negative words obnoxious and disturbing...then overall calling me a bad social element and insinuating that she was going to try to have you removed

5:29 AM
I work 70-90 hours a week (and paid for 38), teaching, tutoring, giving shows to show the 'magic' of science, as well as researching in the fields of skin cancer research and radiation detection..... definitely not insignificant

@Amaterasu dude not calling you insignificant telling you how she made me feel

@caseyr547 this isn't a school yard. We aren't here to be nice to each other. Above all else, we are here to contribute quality content to the website and to learn. When somebody doesn't do so, it is important to point that out to avoid a degradation in the community standards.

At the risk of being reported, I will sy that I was always taught and believe that how we feel is entirely up to ourselves - no one else can make us feel anything

Everything I had said about you has been based on your poor answers on this site.
and your combative attitude in the comments in those answers, when others explain to you how you are not meeting community norms

and with the quality content in mind, the other reason I left the site is to stem my tide of bad content

5:33 AM
@Amaterasu your content was fine, not stellar, but you showed an eagerness to learn and improve, and I am sad to see you go

@Amaterasu thats not quite correct the idea sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me doesnt really pan out that way
@ArtemKaznatcheev my performance has nothing to do with it bud...your response is unhealthy...

@caseyr547 I am not your bud, I believe that your contribution to this site is largely negative.

@ArtemKaznatcheev unfortunately that was the best I could do

what you perceive as negative is not universal

I have removed your last message, because it was racist

5:37 AM
@caseyr547 I was stating that asides from my non-willingness to be subjected to be reported for misunderstandings, the other reason I left is to stem the tide of my useless contributions

@caseyr547 this is a website you choose to participate in, your contribution is judged by the existing members of the community and expressed through comments and votes

5:50 AM
@caseyr547 I get called everything under the sun - everything from "useless" to a "pointless lazy piece of you-know-what" - why? because I am a teacher; I get called "failure", "insigniifcant" "pointless" and "freak" because I do voluntary scientific research, but can not get into academia... I do not let those words get to me, by choice - I control how I feel about me, no one else can... the sticks, stones and words can not harm me - because I won't let them

Q: accusations of racism more bullying

caseyr547uh i was called a racist and banned from chat for saying "ArtemKaznatcheev yes but seeking to remove the negative element from society is unhealthy you might as well say lets get rid of all the black people what you perceive as negative is not universal" Its clear that I am saying "social purit...

6:22 AM
@ArtemKaznatcheev: Thanks for asking; I'm glad if my contributions have been valuable (not that I've doubted it). I've conveyed my share to the moderators about our single user problem (10 flags marked helpful so far, if my count is right, and another submitted just now on the above meta-question). I think everyone who's been watching this site enough over the past couple weeks has some awareness, and we know I'm not the only one reconsidering the site because of this.
That being said, I've got other concerns both on and off the site, and even if I didn't, my level of activity lately wouldn't be sustainable. Caught a financial miscalculation recently, so I gotta get a job or move ASAP, and probably redirect my focus after that too either way.
Definitely hoping to keep my eye on things here, but my time for contributing is going to be pretty limited, and any time I have to spend helping with all this quality control headache we've got right now is going to come out of the answers I provide, so I'm afraid there's no getting around the fact that all this ^ is harmful.
We're all (OK, maybe "mostly") capable of contributing in much more positive ways when we're not preoccupied with stemming the tide of bad input. I'm not saying I say I have a solution of course. I haven't learned enough about the moderator job yet to know what solutions are available, and I don't have time to figure it out on my own right now, but something definitely needs to be done here.
I can't say I don't envy the job of the moderators here; I sincerely wish I could help more, and had the power to do so beyond flagging and downvoting, for whatever that's worth ultimately. I don't envy the difficulty of the job for those who have to handle it right now though. As just another user, I'm bound to leave it to them, and would like to help if I can as such, but won't be working on it actively while there's so little I can do. I hope it all works out here, and I will stay in touch.

6:41 AM
I will completely step away from the site (chat included)...

Hi

6 hours later…
8:48 PM
@ArtemKaznatcheev @NickStauner i've left you comments for things to correct on some of your answers
and flags as it were

Q: meta post instead of flags

caseyr547i've run out of flags so i'm going to start meta posts Kyler Brown gave a comment as an answer it should be removed. How to make diagnosis of these symptoms using Pet scan, fMRI, and EEG? Andrew Prentice's answer is homophobic and silly as there is No relationship between asp and homosexualit...

nick i read all your answers
but artem i am still in the process of reading yours
i ran out of flags and didnt want to continue without as such
i find many of your conclusions though you cite papers they do not back up what you are saying
which might explain why you have so many upvotes
for non answers
in at least one instance someone else has drawn the same conclusion
i mean i get that you want to be novel and everything but this isnt the correct forum for novel publication
this question is a prime example
4
A: How does neural spiking begin in the fetus?

Artem KaznatcheevMany parts of the fetus brain begin showing neural activity before the senses that feed them are sufficiently developed to provide actual sensory information. In other words, it is unlikely that spiking activity in the brain is initiated by the senses. Some of the cells that become sensory organs...

here you drew a conclusion based on a paper that didnt actually relate to the topic at hand
it was well liked with a +5 but it could not answer the question really
How does the very first spiking activity begin in the fetus?
and instead you answered
the connections from the eye to the visual cortex form before the retina is developed enough to respond to light.
why would a baby be able to see in a womb?
given that is a non issue
how does that disprove that tactile or auditory sensations are also random
moreover rat and human gestation are sufficiently different as to require a disclaimer
if you want to prove all the first neural activity is random you have to prove a lack of correlation between brain nerve firing with all the other nervous systems.

9:39 PM
wow
this is a real shame...

10:02 PM
@caseyr547 except it did answer the question. Which I quote: "I imagine all spiking activity is initiated by the senses and internal oscillators. Am I right?" I gave a specific example to justify a 'no' answer.
You should also know, that your mass downvoting is completely futile
but I am glad you tried.
Have a good day.

10:13 PM
@shog9 hey, I mentioned caseyr's name in this question for a reason, he joined the site about a month ago and has been a desruptive user since
It has escalted recently, see for example:

Q: List of answers spite downvoted

Artem KaznatcheevThis is partially for future reference, and partially for the moderators to evaluate. This is the list of answers that have been downvoted over the last day. I am writing it down here so that I don't forget them after the votes are automatically undone by the system for serial downvoting: http:...

Also, see the answers/comments on this answer.
@shog9 a number of us have pointed out to this user relatively early on, that his behavior was not in line with site norms.
but that user continued to spam low quality content through out the month. As can be seen from his 92 answers (which I believe is the second most number of answers on the site) with very low number of votes (indicating that the community does not like his answers); the median vote total is 1, for example.
Although the votes are anonymous, the user deannoynimized himself by announcing ahead of time in chat and leaving a comment on almost every single answer. Also, of those answers only one has ever had a downvote before.

looking...

@Shog9 when you look my criticism are not without a correctable point and i was not generally alone in downvoting him

@caseyr547 this is not a good way to use the site

10:27 PM
@Shog9 he encouraged me to be critical of his answers

if I encouraged you to bang your head against the wall, would you do it?

he defamed me and proclaimed himself so i investigated the quality of his results

I don't think you're new here - to Stack Exchange, that is

the same with nick
no i'm not new here but i did decide to do some peer review

@caseyr547 And you consider yourself a peer in every topic where you voted?
slash critiqued
slash flagged

10:30 PM
is there any reason for me not to be consider a peer?

@caseyr547 are you?

as far as i can tell yes
my answers are better sourced

@caseyr547 Am I your peer?

i dont know your research shog
but i dont consider you superiour to me

@caseyr547 If I went through all of your answers on Stack Overflow and voted on them according to my own interpretation of their usefulness, would you consider this a fair evaluation?

10:31 PM
no

@caseyr547 why not?

because i dont write for your aproval
but to give a specific answer to an op

@caseyr547 but Artem wrote for your approval? Nick did?

no but artem did not write to give a specific answer to an op but to advance himself
and nicks answers were well sometimes links to google

@caseyr547 how do you know this?

10:33 PM
he is publishing novel research and linking to his own work
and he is promoting his questions on external cites then complaining when other people edit them
saying it reflects on him professionally

@caseyr547 so clearly, they were not written with you or your needs in mind.

why would they have been?

3 mins ago, by Shog9
@caseyr547 If I went through all of your answers on Stack Overflow and voted on them according to my own interpretation of their usefulness, would you consider this a fair evaluation?

oh just voted shog9 yeah that would be fine sorry i misread

Do I know anything about Powershell?

10:36 PM
i dont know but you could learn if you wanted to judge my question of powershell

@caseyr547 how long would that take?

that would depened on your history..the amount of experience you had with windows and unix...maybe a couple minutes maybe an hour...

@caseyr547 considerably more time than it would take to familiarize one's self with concepts as trivial as perception, psychology and computational modelling then.

@Shog9 not really
the basics of science are transferable
its about experiment design
testing a hypothesis
proving a hypothesis
and verifying past research
without an intimate knowledge of the task at hand anyone can invalidate a paper based on failures in the scientific method

@caseyr547 this strikes me as naive; the method is a framework for study and analysis, not a recipe

10:45 PM
in college often computer science professors review papers from all other sciences

and?

its pretty much a recipe

are you saying you've gained a significant amount of experience due to your work as a computer scientist reviewing papers from other sciences?

well i have a general education thanks to being forced to take many classes from various departments and then my own personal desires to consume every thing about psychology

@caseyr547 which has equipped you to provide useful critiques of not just an answer in an unfamiliar discipline, but dozens, in the space of an afternoon?

10:49 PM
its not an unfamiliar discipline by far i've been at this for years
and yeah my critiques are useful
like generalize your answer
google for more information
your sources dont reflect your conclusion
you did not give any citations

those are not particularly useful critiques. Rather, they're the sort of lazy evaluations folks like to post when they can't be bothered to be specific - often because they haven't actually bothered to more than skim the post they're commenting on.

@Shog9 by the way, while you evaluate caseyr's expertise, I would like to point out that the vast majority of his 92 answers given in the last month rely almost completely on and copy-and-paste from wikipedia.

yep they are all sound answers
@Shog9 i spent hours and hours on some of the corrections i made to artem's post

@caseyr547 which post?

the one he is using to promote himself
the pedo one
i have experiance working with pedophiles
and i dont think he does

10:54 PM
@caseyr547 promote myself?
@Shog9 here is the relevant meta discussion:
-4
Q: Corrections needed to pedophilia question and answer

caseyr547uh i was reading in chat because people were talking about me not that i seek to defend myself at this time and i happened on this Is pedophilia a sexual orientation or a mental disorder? Definitely some of those comments by Ofri Raviv are dangerous supporting pedophilia and need to be removed...

thank you

and i think you posted on external sites as well

And an explanation by @JoshGitlin on how @caseyr547 is incapable of objectively evaluating evidence and tends to misinterpret answers
@caseyr547 yes, I posted the question (not my answer) to reddit, to give more exposure to CogSci SE as I usually do.

@JoshGitlin doesnt like me because i pointed out that he has a subcious desire with wanting people to suffer eternally

@caseyr547 this one? You made a few trivial copy-edits. You spent hours on that?

10:57 PM
Oh yes, @Shog9 I forgot to mention that @caseyr547 has a way of assuming that everybody on this site has subconscious desires to bully him
according to him, @NickStauner and I feel "threatened" or some other nonsense

@Shog9 yes i spent hours prompting those changes

and I forgot how he insulted @jonsca

because they make a difference to homosexuals and adhd

@Shog9 actually, those edits aren't trivial, they change the tone of the answer. That is why they were rolled back

@caseyr547 uh... Yeah, I could see how that might rub someone the wrong way. Do you generally say such things to folks you might want to help you?

10:58 PM
He also changed the tone of the initial question

@caseyr547 why?

@Shog9 i'm sorry i cant tell what your asking for when you say why

@caseyr547 why would you spend hours promoting such changes?
And why wouldn't you at least remove the errant apostrophe when doing so?

because 6k people are going to read it and it gives the wrong impression based on social stigmas
its insenstive
because they have no actual experiance with these people
i mean they've obviuosly never had senstivity training
i only had a limited amount myself but i know these groups

@caseyr547 call me dense, but I don't see how the edit made any significant difference. This is one of those changes where you would be expected to not fight a war over a crumb of bread.
2

11:03 PM
its ok but like artem said it really did change the tone
and if that bread crumb contained h1n1 i might try my best to desipose of it

meh; you have your own answer there where you can set whatever tone you wish.
and draw on your own experience to back up your assertions, if that is something you'd like to do.

i did

@caseyr547 let's try to avoid stretching analogies past all reasonable limits. It just wastes everyone's time.

sure yeah why not

anyway, I'm out of time here; it's Saturday and I have things planned. I strongly recommend you take a break as well, @caseyr547; whether or not your intentions were good, you've ended up creating rather a large pile of stuff the mods will have to sort out now, and they're not going to be very appreciative of losing part of their weekends to this either - probably a good time to not stir up more.
2
For future reference, you could probably have created and participated in one meta discussion before trying to tackle half the site; it would've made things a lot easier on everyone involved, including yourself.

11:12 PM
@Shog9 ok thats fine my post in meta were just being closed though
have a nice weekend

only 1 of your meta questions is 'on hold' @caseyr547 meta.cogsci.stackexchange.com/users/3832/…

i have one deleted as well @Amaterasu

1 'on hold' and 1 deleted, out of 11
not too bad
