Q: Lets talk about treatments.

caseyr547Lets talk about treatments. When a question isn't a self-help question we should talk about treatments. Without discussing treatment options we are giving incomplete answers which do not reflect the whole knowledge of science. Google will simply select something else as the top search result beca...

and if your not jealous of the volume of my answers and have legitimate factual problems with some thing your welcome to comment on the said questions and i will correct it or provide sources
@ArtemKaznatcheev

Whoever's flagging messages in here, (1) they're not offensive, and (2) they're really old. So please stop.

they are offensive to me @Undo

@caseyr547 In what way, exactly?

i shouldnt be publicly degraded
if they have problems with my posts they should point them out or downvote
not speak in generalist simular to racist about my posts

I'll let @Artem speak for himself. I understand your motives, but flagging messages that aren't spam or offensive to the majority of the userbase isn't the way.
Post on meta if it's really bugging you.

ok i'll post it on meta

Q: Please don't defame me

caseyr547Nick and Artem decided to publicly defame me in chat. I just wanted to have those comments removed but the mod wouldn't and they told me to talk about it in meta. Given the invitation to talk in meta by a mod I would like to analyze that behavior based on the first few theories that come to mind ...

@StevenJeuris and often it is impossible to do so before someone like caseyr gives the 'obvious' answer that appeals to popular misconceptions ;On that list there is only one person (our version of caseyr, giving lots of bad nonsense answers but acquiring rep over time because of the broken vote system) that is not a published researcher @NickStauner keep in mind that this approach suffers from the same obvious mistake as caseyr's answer to that question
that user's hypothesis was 14
none of the studies caseyr mentions, or the OkCupid data allows for people under 18
@StevenJeuris thats the stuff that shouldnt have mentioned me

@NickStauner I had to remove your answer since the question was asked in bad spirit. Perhaps in case you want to maintain it you could write a more grounded question or less directly directed at @caseyr547 so you can post it there, but I agree with caseyr547 it was an offensive question and deleted it as such.

10:38 AM
@Undo @caseyr547 It seems you already tried flagging here in chat, I did not read that. If you want to link to chat from meta posts you can do so by clicking the down arrow left of chat messages and click permalink. That link you can paste in meta posts in order to link to the messages in particular you want to discuss.

10:51 AM
its ok he already apologized if they cant be rid they just cant be rid...its more his unhealthy embarrassment than mine especially in front of psychologists...i readily can acknowledge the limitations of my answers i just prefer it to be done politely
@StevenJeuris ^

@caseyr547 I can remove them, but I agree with @Undo, those comments are just criticism, not offensive.
If you disagree with the criticism you can reply. If you don't want to go into it you will just have to ignore the comments.
But I won't start policing any criticism that people don't like, .. that would be highly undemocratic. :)
As to the whole list of recently flagged 'obsolete' comments, why are they obsolete?

@JoshGitlin you around? Busy?

@ArtemKaznatcheev I'm here, writing a Meta answer. How are you? What's up?

@JoshGitlin I'm blue ;)

@ArtemKaznatcheev Oh so you are! Congrats! \o/
And elected, so more blue than I am! :-)

@JoshGitlin thank you!
The comment I made here:
I have rolled back your edits on both my answer and the question. I also believe that your edits on the accepted answer should be rolled back by the moderators and I hope that they consider a suspension for your disruptive behavior and abuse of editing privileges. — Artem Kaznatcheev 9 hours ago
I meant seriously

I am actually chatting with Steven right now

12:38 PM
@caseyr547 why shouldn't that stuff have mentioned you? @NickStauner and I were having a discussion about my views of where I wanted the site to go and where it was actually going.
Although I agree that I should have pinged you with my mention, so that you could respond. I think I am allowed to express issues with your answers if I see them.
However, as I said in the comments on your question. I will try to be less general in my mention of your activity. I do think some of your answers are good.

I'm actually trying to explain your answer to her on Meta right now @Artem

@JoshGitlin so she should clear up her misunderstandings, in the comments instead of changing the tone of my answer
I crafted that answer very carefully to be unbiased and not condescending
regardless and independent of my moral stance on the issue

I agree wholeheartedly, edits to that answer are unacceptable. That answer is perfectly fine
@ArtemKaznatcheev And you did a great job. I find it difficult to separate emotions from the logic, but it needs to be done to be objective. You did that very well

@JoshGitlin although my answers are now creative commons (or whatever license SE uses), such careless edits can be directly damaging to my career.

@ArtemKaznatcheev the content is still yours, you can always rollback. But I don't support edits to that answer she was proposing

12:44 PM
If @caseyr547 changes the tone of my answer on such a sensitive and controversial topic and somebody else who is not familiar with SE looks at the answer without examining the edit history
that reflects poorly on me as a professional
@JoshGitlin I've already rolled back (also on the question). I think the top answer should be rolled back to the original version given by the answerer (or the minor edits Ben did for spelling and such) but didn't want to overstep myself.
I would also like to raise to the moderators attention.
Actually, nevermind.
I'll let you guys take care of the rest of it.
But I'd like to express my opinion as a member of the community: I think it is important to maintain quality on our website, and to value that above quantity. Regardless of what the SE point system incentivizes.

@ArtemKaznatcheev I'll check that in a moment
@ArtemKaznatcheev I certainly understand and I, too, want to maintain quality

@ArtemKaznatcheev Didn't that already happen?
At least when I looked at that flag I seemed to recall what rolled it back?

@ArtemKaznatcheev The top answer was already rolled back by user what
As it should have been

@JoshGitlin okay, I checked last night. Haven't looked at it since.

There were some very good flags raised, and I was actually wondering why they weren't raised earlier, hence my meta post.

12:56 PM
@StevenJeuris I usually don't flag, but just downvote. But I can start flagging if you want.
Also, I haven't kept too close of an eye on the site recently

@ArtemKaznatcheev For stuff like that, please do. It's more work cleaning up entire messy threads, answers etc ... rather than closing a question/deleting an answer which should be closed either way.
Also if work goes into it is lost e.g. @NickStauner's answer on the question I had to delete.
And it's also a spawning place for even more flags so ... :)
Just don't flag for incorrect answers please, that's different, and then a down vote suffices.

@StevenJeuris okay, will do.

Sorry guys, allllmost done here
OK, here's my thoughts on the pedophilia question:

A: Corrections needed to pedophilia question and answer

Josh GitlinDisclaimer: this is a delicate and emotional subject and I am trying to address the situation with full objectivity, putting any emotional reaction to the subject aside. It appears to me, reading your question, that you are confusing pedophilia with child molestation. You state a few things that...

@ArtemKaznatcheev yes, definitely flag! I have been having some personal issues (two very ill family members, one recovering thankfully) and so I haven't been on the site nearly as much as I would have liked. I mostly check flags these days unless I have free time to peruse

@JoshGitlin Oh no! I wish them the best hug

@StevenJeuris unless you feel an answer is so incorrect that it's dangerous or needs a post notice, obviously (@ArtemKaznatcheev)
@ArtemKaznatcheev Thanks. One is recovering, the other... won't. :'( I may ask some questions here about degenerative nerve disorders if she permits me

1:11 PM
@JoshGitlin Good response.

Thanks. I loathe anything that hurts children, but we must try our best to deal with difficult subjects like this objectively.
Besides, only through objective understanding can we make progress with treatment, right? If we all believe in some wonder-drug and it's not effective, we're just fooling ourselves into a false sense of security

1:23 PM
@JoshGitlin :(

Yeah, we're trying to make the most of things!

@StevenJeuris I agree, @JoshGitlin gave a solid response

@ArtemKaznatcheev Thanks!
Oh boy, we need some Jermoy edits to our new question

1:41 PM
@JoshGitlin Already removed the reference to the other closed question since then that obviously isn't going anywhere.

@StevenJeuris Yeah, thanks

1:53 PM
what to the rescue!

@JoshGitlin I didn't upvote that yet because it didn't include initial research. :)
But the update does so ... 13 more up votes to go. ;p

hahaha
Thanks :-)

@StevenJeuris you all are happy with the way the pedophile stuff reads and that's your prerogative. those comments seem obsolete to me because they deal with individuals concerns and stuff
@JoshGitlin do you have any experience with pedophiles?

8:38 PM
I am out of my office at the moment but I will respond when I am available. Short answer: no

@StevenJeuris: Thanks for letting me know. Bit of a shame about the question and my answer; I was fairly happy with my contribution to the general issue, which was getting a lot of upvotes and stood to gain more if my answer was on the right track. I need to reevaluate my own standards for deciding when and how to contribute here anyway though, so the end result helps inform that process for me. All the conflict revolving around one rather self-righteous dissident among us...
(and certainly reflecting on some of us too, myself included) is very troubling, and somewhat more than I can afford to help resolve at the moment, given growing risks to my own professional image through my involvement. Choosing to retreat from the conflict is not harmless either, but I'm not giving up entirely in any case. I will try to stick around, but probably need to turn much of my attention elsewhere for a little while at least.

@caseyr547 I have returned now. As a moderator of this site it is my job to maintain our standards of quality while keeping the site on-topic and helping the community self-organize. That is all I am trying to do in this case. Please see my answer to your Meta question which I tool a good deal of time to lay out this morning carefully and thoughtfully

10:26 PM
@JoshGitlin well i do have some limited experience working with pedophiles...i didn't counsil them while they were incarcerated...and i can tell you the two answers on that question would cause the people I worked with problems...

Feel free to post your own answer with your experiences. But be prepared to back it up with evidence. We have a requirement that answers on our site have some basis in science/clinical practice

@JoshGitlin i did post an answer. have you worked with many homosexuals? are you aware that homosexuals especially those in the south are sensitive to juxtaposition with rape and pedo?

I answered on Meta based upon the answers posted on that question, which cited reputable sources and did a very good job (IMO) of dealing with the subject objectively and rationally

@JoshGitlin yes but all your answers speak to a blatant lack of experience and sensitivity to the humanity of those involved

@caseyr547 I find your comparison here to be quite incorrect and offensive, and I find that your belief that I show a lack of sensitivity and humanity also very much off base. I'm going to step away for a while...
If you have further issues with this, I think you should take it up with my co-mods, @jeromyanglim and @stevenjeuris

10:30 PM
ok
