from a question value standpoint, I would be very surprised if anyone else ever benefits from either of those questions
we don't close things as "too localized" anymore, so there's not really a need to close the question
and I don't want to make either of the users mad by taking away the well deserved rep :)

My only concern is that as it stands, its impossible to select a right answer unless the OP has some sort of bias.
And I don't want the site to have questions that can't have correct answers lol

I added a comment for future reference but I wouldn't count on the asker ever returning
unregistered account that hasn't been back for 8 days

ScottRealize that anything created pre-1980/1985 was done by hand. So much of the texture you see is probably from the canvas or medium directly and often mimicking traditional elements can be a challenge with digital workflows. For the second sample image...... I think you can get something similar...

It slowed for a couple weeks but is stating to stack up again. Looks liek January won't be it customarily slow pace this year.

working for a company that imports most things...Chinese New Year will be a nice vacation for me. All factories shut down for about 3 weeks over there
so just about nothing I do during that time needs to be done in a rush, which is nice :)
though...the weeks leading up to it is a different story. That's where I'm at now

I usually have 2 or 3 weeks AFTER the holidays to relax and work slow.. not so this year. I think people were holding stuff waiting for the first week fo January.
There's no way I can continue the pace I had Oct-Dec though. I'm raising prices quite a bit.
I decided that I know get Sat, Sun, ANY Wed off every week :)

I am trying to do something that (should be) simple. I need to make a rectangle gradient with a transparent central portion. I can only find a square gradient tool within GIMP. The gradient settings probably will let me make one, but there are just too many to go figuring on my own.

select a rectangle with the marquee tool
gradient from whatever color to transparent. say black to transparent
drag in from one edge, then another, then the third, and the last one. or the corners whichever you want
