How do you get a screen grab of an Ngram? Print-screen - paste? Or is there a button I'm not seeing?

3:28 AM
@Mazura Shift ⌘ 4
Dunno what "print-screen" means.

4:12 AM
You don't know how to use the Print Screen button on your keyboard, or you just giving me crap for a misplaced hyphen? ;p
@tchrist Also, what key is that thing between shift and 4?

@Mazura I don't have such a key on my keyboard. And between SHIFT and 4, I have an S and an E.

Are you pretending not to know the difference between a Mac keyboard and a regular one?
@Mazura That's the Apple Command key. Macs don't have a Print Screen button.
Also, good morning, @tchrist. Happy Snow Day.

@KitZ.Fox A small conceit.
It’s been snow day for like ten days here.
I would really like for it to melt.

I was just thinking of you yesterday, for the strange reason that every time I started to fall asleep last night, I made a hurmming noise and woke myself up. I took benadryl at 1AM to try to finally get to sleep.

I do sometimes do that. Not especially lately, but sometimes.

The internet has a strange affect on the brain :-)

12:49 PM
I'm annoyed about the snow day because I was taking a sick day today so I could try to sleep and not get bronchitis.
Now I have children to care for.

user116848
And where I live it is sunny all the time. Very boring.

It's sunny here over 300 days a year. That doesn't stop the snow.

user116848
Hi tchrist.

@KitZ.Fox One thing I've learned in that case is to control the phlegm, even if that means taking nasal sprays or Sudafed. Otherwise I become a Petri dish.

Yeah, I'm concerned because I couldn't get it under control yesterday.
I was going to try to see the doc today, but I'm not going to be able to get out in this weather.
I was having a hard time breathing at work, so I came home to use my inhaler and take some expectorant, but nothing, zip.

12:53 PM
How much unplowed snow?
Not breathing is really bad.

Eh. I can't get out of the driveway, but if I could, it looks like the roads aren't salted/sanded yet. They are plowed but snow-covered.
Yeah, I agree.

So, double digits in this fall?

Codeine and humidifier finally got me some relief.

Codeine banishes me to wakefulness. But sometimes it works for the cough.

@tchrist Maybe. More likely just under a foot. I'd guess 8 inches.
I live on a side road up a hill.

12:55 PM
They closed our schools last week when we got 15. It still hasn't melted. I did go out that day, but only to the coffee shop downhill six blocks away. And I used an all-wheel-drive vehicle. It was dicier than people imagined.

Not far from the main road, which is good once I get there.

It's been easy keeping the cats around. They don't roam far in heavy snow.

Yeah, we still had accumulation from a few days ago, although it had melted maybe halfway. That fall was about six inches.
@tchrist That's a relief. Only one of ours even bothers to go out in the snow.
The fat one sits on the windowsill and watches.

There's a lot of that sits-on-the-windowsill-and-watches thing here, but they hate the litterbox so venture out to paw for sand.

I wish my cats felt that way.

1:02 PM
Anybody watch that game on Sunday?
Denver sure learned their lesson about the importance of defense from a couple of yrs back with Seattle.

Hiding inside from the weather.
They still snuggle.

user116848
How many cats do you have @tchrist?

user116848
@guest Hi skull. I don't watch NFL.

user116848
@KitZ.Fox I didn't know you had cats. Nice.

@tchrist That's sweet. I have a grey tiger cat like that one and a tuxedo cat.
I can't keep collars on mine.
That worries me sometimes.

1:13 PM
Too bad @Arrowfar do you like cricket?

@guest I know, right?

user116848
@guest Erm no I don't. But people here are crazy about cricket.

user116848
Like c-r-a-z-y.

How about soccer?

user116848
Yes some people play that here definitely.

1:20 PM
I tried to get a Superbowl internet tailgate party going in the sports.SE chatroom but nobody showed up :(

@Arrowfar checks

@tchrist I don't know, something to do with mundifying? Mundification? Mundity?

I think mundicant is a noun.

Tersity?
Purity?
Candor?

How about camber tossing? That's a man's man's sport

user116848
1:25 PM
:)

:)

I thought it was caber tossing.
Isn't camber wheel-tilt?
camber, toe, and something else.

Spelling is for wusses

user116848
Oh I just Googled camber tossing for images and dude!

user116848

If you don't blow a couple veins then you're not really trying

user116848
lol

That looks like my friend Steve.
Wrong tartan though.

@Cerberus I did contemplate something candid, but no.

1:28 PM
Steve? You mean Declan?

@Mitch You misspelled walruses.

Haha. Walruses don't have arms.
But they could crush the crap out of a camber. Or caber. Or whatever needs crushing

Coo co ca choo

That means 'hey you get offa my cloud' in Yoruba.
Which, unfortunately, is not an option in google translate.

user116848
Google translator sucks.

@Arrowfar what song does that come from?

user116848
@Mitch Tarzan.

@Arrowfar GT rocks. As long as you don't know the language already

user116848

Happy Fatty Tuesday.

GTA also rocks. If you're into committing terrible crimes
@tchrist what? So is today when stuff happens or have I missed it all?

1:57 PM
Violet cows are a hazard to public safety.

2:55 PM
@tchrist Violent cows are a threat to themselves too.

3:23 PM
Saxon violent sin cows
That's as far as I could take it. Can anyone add to it?

3:43 PM
I'm utterly useless when it comes to puns.

3:55 PM
@Mazura udderly useless. haha...cows are funny.

4:06 PM
boviniluminous vixen?

That's NOT funny. We need to steer the room back to a serious topic.

4:25 PM
I'm just getting buttered up.
Alright, I'd better hoof it outta here, before I get mooed over.

1 hour later…
5:52 PM
Hello everyone, could anybody please help me out here in completing this sentence: "The person who is now a municipal commissioner was_________ ".
"a security guard at the university" or "a security guard at a university"?

6:04 PM
@Romy Both are grammatically correct. "The university" refers to the university already known in the context. "A university" refers to some university not known in the context.
So you pick the one you mean.

@MετάEd Thank you.Actually, this was a question in my objective type quiz.No context was there & I opted "a security guard at the university".

Protect me now! while I try to decide which of the 20 dupes this is from... If that ever happens.
@tchrist Poke. ^^
I'm sure you'd rather not be poked, would it be more appropriate to flag the question for mod intervention??
@OliverSalzburg Poke, poke. ^^

@Mazura I'm not a mod on English Language & Usage
