00:00 - 20:0020:00 - 00:00

8:00 PM
@MattE.Эллен As you wish.

Make it so number one

The first number one was played by Majel Barret, Gene Roddenberry's wife. The network said 'no! That's totally unbelievable! Women, sheesh!'
(I'm starting to watch ST:Enterprise)

@KitZ.Fox Me and @Lawrence were trying to discuss how to reconcile that problem among other things here, though it's hard to further isolate. I think the idea we came up with is asking a new question then merging the old one as a duplicate. One of the reasons that may be preferable to just editing is so we can have a qualified questioner who's more likely to return to the website accept a valid answer.

Antigravity is the one science thing on there that is entirely implausible, in the sense of idiotic.
Impossible
Dumb
But of course you could cheat, engineering wise.

@Tonepoet It's worth discussing.

8:06 PM
But there's no evidence of engineering it away in the show.
It's just magical thinking
Unlike everything else

@Mitch Cough, they have one of the cardinal sin plot elements for logic in later seasons but I don't want to really risk spoiling that if you hadn't heard of it already.

there's a lot of magical thinking going on at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle this weekend

@Tonepoet yeah. Don't go there. Meaning no spoilers
@MattE.Эллен oh?
Let me concentrate real hard and maybe I can figure it out
Ok I give up

Magic: The Gathering World Championship

That is magical

8:12 PM
:D

user227867
I am feeling upset now because a user on SE just emailed me to scold me again.

I think most of the magic in MtG is in making up the rules as you go along, including making your own cards
...fercrissakes

user227867
He has been abusing me for a while now, and when I talk about him in chat rooms, he gets upset and now he asks me to cease and desist.

@JasperLoy you can report him to a mod or to the SE team

This card is strangely relevant to the conversation:

8:15 PM
Despite expletives being the first natural thing to do, can you complain to a mod?

@Tonepoet lol
@Mitch depends what you're complain about :D but mods are here to help moderate behaviour

user227867
@MattE.Эллен I think everything I said about him is true, in that it is either a reasonable opinion or fact. I talked about him in SE chat because I got really upset and wanted to vent my frustration. Maybe now he will read what I say in this chat and then threaten me again.

if he is threatening you you should report him to the SE team. people should not be threatening you

user227867
Sorry, by threaten here I meant just the cease and desist, lol. Just to clarify.

user227867
8:20 PM
I did not keep a record of the emails he sent me before, so I can't prove that he abused me in the past. But abuse here does not mean using expletives, just psychological stuff, you know.

On SE chat? The world is full of jerks.
50% of everybody walking down the street are jerks

even if you're the only person on the street

And 50% are just covering up
And another 50% can't count
@MattE.Эллен :D

user227867
Recently I pinged this user in chat and tried to be nice to him after all these years. Then I went to sleep and this person thought I was ignoring him. Then he emailed me 'you are not the centre of everyone's world' and 'stop pretending to be who you are not', and stuff like that.

user227867
Just to give one example.

8:24 PM
then I think your best option is to leave them alone.
if this is the way you two interact it seems best to stop

user227867
Yes, after this incident, I will never talk to him again.

user227867
This user emailed me in the past to tell me to upvote him. He also edited my answers and left comments on my answers to get my attention even though the edits and answers were useless and made my posts ugly. When I told him to stop, he scolded me in email.

user227867
When I questioned him about the edits, he lied. I knew he lied because I looked at the edit history.

user227867
This user copied other users' answers and passed off as his own. When people questioned him, he lied. All this could be seen from the posts on Math SE, some deleted already, and in the comments.

user227867
This user got suspended for a year but recently returned.

user227867
8:31 PM
I was quite traumatised by the stuff he did to me, so sometimes I talked about him in the math chat, sometimes citing the username, sometimes not explicitly so.

user227867
I guess this person read the stuff and then decided to scold me again just now, sending two emails one after the other in five minutes.

user227867
I just feel like writing this here so I feel better.

user227867
Initially I often upvoted his posts and emailed him, but somehow things turned sour after a while.

It seems obvious to me that he is a difficult person and that you unfortunately got caught up in his problems.
Probably best for you to disengage. Or at a minimum realize the things he says about you have nothing to do with you, that they're his own anger or something. You just happen to be standing there
On that note, one of the premises of ST is that most problems have been solved on earth and they're just exploring the problems in the rest of the Galaxy.
But that's a lie. The humans on board the Enterprise still have problems
I mean the Klingons are kinda jerks, but so is Ensign Williamson. God what a douche.

@Mitch Enterprise is set before the world solved its problems, isn't it?

user227867
8:46 PM
@Mitch I really should not have talked to him after he returned from the suspension. I regret it now.

user227867
9:15 PM
Anyway, I am off to bed. Good night.

good night

@JasperLoy Yes we always recommend when any user is impolite to (1) disengage and (2) flag for moderator or staff attention.

9:40 PM
Anybody seen Alfred Hitchcock's Foreign Correspondent?

user227867
10:00 PM
@MetaEd Nope.

Well, I'll just have to risk it then.

user227867
I recommend watching Sommersturm (German) and Jongens (Dutch).

user227867
Both movies are about gays coming out. I enjoyed them thoroughly.

Does anyone know how to use Microsoft Edge?

user227867
Hello @Kit. How is your vacation so far?

user227867
10:06 PM
@KitZ.Fox Isn't that just a browser?

Is it supposed to be just a blue box with the IE logo?

@KitZ.Fox So far I have successfully avoided getting even close to the Edge.
@KitZ.Fox Yes, I think when it starts that's what the blank page looks like.

It is either not working or I don't know how to put in a url.

user227867
Microsoft Edge (codename "Spartan") is a web browser developed by Microsoft and included in the company's Windows 10 operating systems, replacing Internet Explorer as the default web browser on all device classes. Microsoft says that it is designed to be a lightweight web browser with a layout engine built around web standards. The only plug-in it supports is Adobe Flash Player; it does not support ActiveX or Browser Helper Objects. It has features not supported by Microsoft's earlier Internet Explorer browsers, including integration with Cortana, annotation tools, and a reading mode. Extension...

On my PC it starts as blue with logo, then after it is started it tries to load a homepage.

10:08 PM
OK, so it must just be hanging.

Yes sounds like it is hanging in startup.

Apparently my whole machine is freaking out.
<grumbles>

Freak back!

user227867
And it is a new machine too!

screams wildly

user227867
10:10 PM
I laughed when I read about the bikini with the flag.

They do love me so.
omg this is the slowest browser ever. This is slower than Fetch.

user227867
When I get rich, I will buy a new Windows computer and use Office and Edge.

user227867
I went to a Mac store yesterday.

user227867
I was surprised to find that some laptops had no USB drive, WTF!

user227867
They said they took it out to make it thinner.

user227867
10:17 PM
@KitZ.Fox May I ask where your vacation is?

At my house.

user227867
LOL

user227867
Ah, a staycation.

user227867
Oops, Josh is suspended...

user227867
I was going to congratulate him for overtaking Robusto.

user227867
10:26 PM
There was once someone here wore swimming trunks with the flag, and people complained.

user227867
I am now going to bed, good night.

10:55 PM
@Mitch Hmm, I slept on it a bit. Are you inquiring as to why I spelled it with two Es instead of one? If that's the case it was meant to represent protraction, like how people sometimes spell no with more than one o.
@JasperLoy They have a U.S.B. port, but not as you know it.
USB Type-C is a USB specification for a small 24-pin reversible-plug connector for USB devices and USB cabling. The USB Type-C Specification 1.0 was published by the USB Implementers Forum and was finalized in August 2014. It was developed at roughly the same time as the USB 3.1 specification. == Details == The USB Type-C connectors connect to both hosts and devices, replacing various Type-B and Type-A connectors and cables with a standard meant to be future-proof. The 24-pin double-sided connector is similar in size to the micro-B connector, with a USB Type-C port measuring 8.4 millimetres (0...

@Mitch Hmm, I hear ya.
Now, how about read:understand -- listen:understand?

11:20 PM
@Lawrence Hmm, I was thinking that too but I didn't suggest it because surely the questioner dismissed it. I was thinking more contrast was desired, hence why I shifted away from understand into something more typically associated with reading.
