@skillpatrol That's silly!
Are you sure it doesn't also mean something else, something worse?

1:01 AM
Dunno pal.

1:15 AM
Anyway, I flagged it to be removed.
And apologized.

@skillpatrol Perhaps he misunderstood...

@Cerberus I really don't understand what there is to misunderstand: Someone says a word, in this case "yergh" that I have never seen before, so I look it up and post the definition for others who may not know it.

Oh, someone else said it, even.

Hi

Hello

12:18 PM
:)

How are you ip?

I'm fine thx u?

Fine thanks.

@skillpatrol Then He must have misunderstood the entire situation and tried censorship based on a misunderstanding.

@Cerberus I still don't get it?
A definition is a definition.

12:20 PM
Anything can be misunderstood.

@skillpatrol what's up?

Example: he never clicked the link, just assumed it was something nasty because it was on Urban Dictionary.

@IceGirl not much, you?

@skillpatrol just exams

Then proposed censorship of the link, even though the link itself is 100% clean regardless of what's behind it.

12:22 PM
@Cerberus I see now, thanks :-)

3 exams left

@IceGirl good luck :D

@skillpatrol Thanks

Hi guys

user116848
@MattE.Эллен @terdon Can you take a look at this:

user116848
in The English Learning Cabin, 2 hours ago, by Damkerng T.
For those who welcome Arrowfar, I won't object to your welcoming him or chatting with him, though I think it's the best for everyone if Arrowfar will stay in other rooms.

user116848
I flagged this ^

user116848
He is clearly trying to look me bad. Bringing up the past and all that.

@Arrowfar Best thing to do is let it go. Or, if you respond, just say "Damkerng and I have had our disagreements in the past. I don't want to go into that again but I can assure you all that I'm nowhere near as bad as he thinks :)"

user116848
5:11 PM
I know terdon. But he is bent on kicking me out of there. He has put me on ignore, I mean I feel very depressed these days whenever I see him acting like that.

user116848
I told him:

I am saying again guys: Accept my apologies if I ever wronged you here.

5:29 PM
@Arrowfar just put him on ignore as he has done with you. That way neither needs to see the other.

Q: Semantics links between all, all of the and the

user1894167I am trying to find links between numbers and semantics using digital roots. To do this I usually take a sentence and phrase it in different ways to get the number I want; a specific single digit number. In this case , 1 or 7. I can match 7 with the following: god is all energy in the universe ...

Whoa, this is really off the wall.

@Robusto WTF? How's he getting the 7 anyway?

6:41 PM
@terdon good advice pal :)

:)

An eye for an eye will make them both blind to each other.

@skillpatrol Well, that might work too. I was hoping for something less violent :P

There is a third party involved there also.
A certain mod who removed me from the room owner list.
But it's no big deal to me.
Linguistics is not my thing anyway :)
I believe the same happened with cerb @terdon

No idea. Which room? This one?

6:49 PM
Nope ell

No idea.

"No" idea is so...neutral, it's not a positive idea or a negative idea ;-)
I have absolutely no idea.
I have an empty set of ideas :D
The set with no members, the null set.

The set of all ideas that are not ideas of themselves.

7:05 PM
How Russelliean of you sir.

Don't get me started on teapots. Or barbers.

@oerkelens I ended up accepting the other answer because i) I think it's more on the nose and ii) he needs the rep more than you do. I just wanted to thank you for a great answer regardless.

I have lately been thinking about the difference between learning and understanding, have you ever thought about it? @terdon

Oh, often. Unfortunately, the school system in Greece is (or was) largely based on memorizing as opposed to understanding. As far as I'm concerned, learning is understanding. It's the difference between information and knowledge.

7:13 PM
Interesting analogy.
Let me think about that, I'll get back to you on it.
There are certainly various levels of both.
Agreed?

Yes. My point is that a lot of information != great knowledge. The latter requires understanding.

What does " !=" mean in this context
By definition

It's the opposite of =
I mean that a lot of information does not necessarily mean great knowledge.

I could conceivably learn to recite a book on Calculus and still not understand a word of it.

7:21 PM
True.
Or even the bible
Note the lack of capitalization ;-)

Especially the bible.

Yes.
For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.
Aristotle said that^

Smart bugger.

Indeed.
Do they still teach/preach his writings in Greece?

No more than anywhere else. Less than most, probably.

7:35 PM
Learning can be acellerated, but understanding can be enduring.
The most popular MOOC is entitled Learning How to Learn.
One could do a course entitled Understanding How to Understand.
Or Learning How to Understand
Of Understanding How to Learn
MOOC - Massive Online Open Course

According to Class Central, "Learning How to Learn" is currently the most popular MOOC of all 253 MOOCs from major universities around the world.

@terdon Beats this shit out of me.

The Hawks are goin down!
Putin on the strangle hold tonight.
Then finish them off in game 7
Only in the USA can a team from a state that never gets snow win the hockey championship.
