https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyxSerkkP4o < Neural net "dreaming" applied to a scene from Fear and Loathing. Holy crap.

I've come to soak up proper English

user174558
This is the wrong place.

Really?
I read some of the Incomprehensible rooms stuff and they both wrote beautifully

user174558
Your English is good enough, no more soaking is needed.

They wrote some exquisite banter

user174558
11:47 AM
@I'mmostlyjustanidiot The banana in the papaya in the iguana in the zenana is in Panama.

@JasperLoy Really?

user174558
That is the most beautiful sentence I ever heard, and I made it all by myself.

@JasperLoy This makes me happy.
See I am already improving here, I am using full stops.
Why did the orange leave?

12:23 PM
Welcome!

I feel welcome!
Now I have read some of the drama above, and how frequently people talked before it, I wonder if this chat room is going to die down.
@Cerberus When do people come online?

@I'mmostlyjustanidiot Until recently, people used to be online most of the time.

Can we get them back by talking in the incomprehensible room?

But two of our oldest, most respected, most chatty members seem to have been driven off by the drama.
Mm unlikely.

They are robusto and reg?

12:33 PM
They have both said they weren't interested in being banished to a...locker.
Yes.

I don't even know them and I think that is depressing.

It is.
I'm still hanging on.
But I have to go shower now, meeting in 25 minutes...

Come back @Robusto and @RegDwigнt, we need you to chat for me to master the English language!

Enchanté!

Alright have fun!

12:35 PM
Adios!

Hello @matt, how was your Thanksgiving?

Has ta la vista
Do svedanya

Hi @Mitch
Welcome!

Um... Shalom
Aloha

What are you doing my good pal?

Tachüßi
I'm saying goodbye in as many ways as possible
Get it out of the way early
You started the trend. I'm just continuing it

1:16 PM
I'm sorry for starting that :(.
I feel terrible.

@JasperLoy I don't think @MattE.Эллен does thanksgiving. It's a us thing and he's not from the us
Why feel sorry? When we're about to go, we will go through all the ways to say 'hello'
We're just messing around here.

I know :).
I was trying to be funny also :D.

Except for those bastards who are all 'finite Hilbert spaces with a de Sitter notifications cohomology (whose scalar firms a non-associative quasi-division ring). Those guys are jerks.

Wait what, are you in the math room??

Oops autocorrect, 'notifications' -> 'motivic'
Nope. I did that for @JasperLoy because he goes to the math room a lot and they can sometimes be ... One-tracked about their conversations instead of having fun.

1:23 PM
Oh okay, I am from the math room too!

If I can make @JasperLoy lol out loud, I have completed my day.
You should have caught my mistake then

The thing you are talking about is 5th year math lol

It's also nonsense.

Finite hilbert spaces is fine, but de sitter motivic cohomology is not fine.

I thought the whole point to a Hilbert space is that it is infinite
Not infinite basis but...

1:26 PM
Well I don't know if you mean finite or finite dimensional

Like vectors have infinite coordinates

Finite set certainly won't work
Infinite basii are a thing

So are you a native speaker of English or are you learning?

I am a native English user, but I imagine that I have stopped improving my English passively. :D

Ha ha. It's 'bases' also not pronounced 'baseez'

1:28 PM
Oh ha ha ha.
That is why I need this room.

I ask because you said you wanted to learn better English. And I would not recommend that chat room for that. Too chaotic.

'I am a native English user, but I imagine that I have stopped the passive improvement of my English abilities'

Is that in your SE profile?

@Mitch You can't start a sentence with and can you?
@Mitch No Ha Ha I was trying to improve my English use :D

Ok we can help with English learning attitude

1:33 PM
Is 'welldefined' allowed to be one word like that?
in Mathematics, 12 mins ago, by Tobias Kildetoft
@I'mmostlyjustanidiot Yeah, being welldefined is actually the most tricky here (and it is not hard)

Starting a sentence with a conjunction is done all the time. Stylistically some people suggest you avoid it. Schoolteachers might say it is forbidden (but I doubt that)

in Mathematics, 16 mins ago, by Tobias Kildetoft
it is just a matter of showing that it is actually welldefined
He said it 3 times, 'welldefined'

Oh, wow, I thought @I'mmostlyjustanidiot was tchrist and was very confused.

There's a treadmill of progress from two words to hyphenated to one word. I'm not sure where 'well-defined' is

Because the image is a little similar?

1:36 PM
@terdon it would probably confuse @tchrist more
Image?

<- The little avatar thing

@I'mmostlyjustanidiot Yes, and he hangs out here.

Wait I don't know why you thought we were the same person :O

Anyway, unless "welldefined" has become acceptable jargon in math, no it's not one word but two.
@I'mmostlyjustanidiot Just the avatar. My bad.

@terdon hyphenated right?

1:38 PM
Okay thanks @terdon (I thought your name was Tendon until at'ing you)

@Mitch Not even. I've only ever seen it as well defined.
@I'mmostlyjustanidiot Yeah, I get that a lot. My fault for choosing a username by hitting random keys in my 20ies.

@terdon It's a nice name considering its 'origin event'(is there a word for this)

Cheers

Mine too!

1:40 PM
Wait. Not the one you can see.

Well, I'll be damned. Looks like the hyphenated version is more common. I stand corrected:

You guys are psychic, right?

I'm glad you looked that up for me. I was about to go check

1:41 PM
Is there a word for 'event that caused this'?

Weird though. I know I've read (and written) well defined very often in published papers. In biology, not math though.
@I'mmostlyjustanidiot cause

'Well' is too ... weird? To stand alone

Like "It's a nice name considering its 'origin event'"
What would you replace 'origin event' with?

Causation?
Causality?
Prime mover?

Origin maybe?

1:43 PM
@I'mmostlyjustanidiot origin
jinx!

Happening thingy?

Franz Ferdinand?

The bull that said no?

1:45 PM
Listen to this song in completion is your challenge. It is a representative to vapor-wave genre. Have you heard of vapor-wave? I have no idea why the genre was named this

Well, I see both hyphenated and non hyphenated forms in google scholar but the hyphen seems more popular: scholar.google.gr/…

@terdon notice the dip in well-defined and well defined in the late 2000's?
People are recognize the increasing chaos in math

:)
Entropy is a bitch.

Why blame beautiful mathematics :)

I blame the British

1:48 PM
Is that your guitar @terdon?

yes

2 hours later…
user174558
3:45 PM
Ooh, bitches and bastards, strong language, lol.

user174558
5:42 PM
@matt Boo!

Is there anybody out there?

yes
I miss Rob
Did Cerb leave too?

5:58 PM
@JohanLarsson Not to my knowledge.

user174558
@JohanLarsson You can always go to the other room to talk to them.

I believe @Cerberus can be conjured up with the suitable Latin incantation.

user174558
Om nom nom?

@JasperLoy not sure

6:13 PM
Just say "the hoi polloi " three times, and @cerb
Will track you down
Phone chat isn't the easiest

I ain't no Mr. Tumnus
Maybe Aragorn's cousin, the one with glasses.

@Mitch You mean his wife?

6:48 PM
First cousin, 60-odd times removed
