@Cerberus Because the reminders are not insistent enough. I want it to interrupt me. Otherwise I won't notice it and it will just be ignored until it's too late.

2:53 AM
@Cerberus Because it's New and Improved?

Hi folks,

Where do the terms finite and non-finite (when applied to verbs/clauses) come from? Why were they first used? What do infinity/finiteness have to do with verbs/clauses?

@absconditus finite, non-finite (c.f. infinite)
etymonline.com is a good place to start with etymology queries

12:35 PM
Thanks Matt. I see you are a teach-a-man-to-fish kind of guy :)

I should have, but I was just dismayed. If I were explaining it, it'd be the first thing I introduce. It certainly isn't obvious. Even this (quasi?)-academic paper plunges right into functional distinctions, instead of explaining why the terms were introduced in the first place (http://homes.chass.utoronto.ca/~cowper/Cowper.finiteness.pdf). Same goes for the Cambridge Grammar (the student edition).

12:56 PM
@absconditus I guess since her paper is about defining it, saving that for the conclusion is natural. Although it would have been god of her to define phi-feature agreement so I didn't have to look it up

@MattЭллен That is god to hear.

1:13 PM
I guess you don't need to clean your ears out

@MattЭллен Since there's no abstract, this

"I [will show] that the traditional understanding of finiteness, namely that it consists
of the ability to assign structural (nominative) case to a subject, and the possibility of having [phi]-feature agreement encoded on the verb, is essentially correct."

could have easily been fitted into the introduction. It's an academic paper, not a a joke with a punchline to be saved for the end.

If it were an SE answer, you could suggest an edit ;) as it is, maybe email her with your suggestion

:D I'll probably end up getting my ass kicked - judo? style.

hi
“Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them.”
I think this is not right...coz believe something of someone is often negative...
she shoulda used expect of them...
what do ya think?

1:54 PM
@absconditus Nice painting.
@MattЭллен Boo! It's already December!
@user4215 No, I don't think believe is negative. There can be miracles when you believe.

@WillHunting Thanks Will. Here's some reading on it, if you're interested

@absconditus I like van Gogh's works. Too bad he was mentally ill.

2:10 PM
@WillHunting Yes it is!

@MattЭллен I should try to save myself first before trying to save others. I am so bothered by the problems in this world.

you should.

It's scary to think of how I would be able to live life if I were born in, say, Iran or North Korea. Very scary. I already cannot take it well here.

2:51 PM
@Will Hunting
No
Examples are all negative
If you say "eat your heart" out followed by the name of a famous person, you are joking that you are even better than that person:...this is from CDO but "out" is not parenthesized. Even big sites make typos?

3:07 PM
yes

is that to what question?

> Even big sites make typos?

oh i see. Am I right in thinking that it should instead be "eat your heart out"?

Thanks
on other sites, "he" was "be"
vice versa

2 hours later…
4:52 PM
room topic changed to English Language & Usage: Your online Turing test (no tags)

@Robusto Dangit, I studied all night. But failed my Turing test.

You still have to get past the urine test too, so study hard.

I crammed for my fecal occult blood test. It had great impact on the results.

Nice that you're dabbling in the occult.

5:08 PM
well, would you look at that?
what does it mean?

What does it mean to you?

no idea
no entry online

Is that a problem for you?

why so curt to me like that?

Why do you think I'm being curt to you?
> The Turing test is a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human.
I was simulating machine response, just for fun. Thought you might catch on.

5:35 PM
Be glad I didn't administer the Voight-Kampff test.

Be glad there was no prostate examination, lol.

6:21 PM
Hello @oerkelens, your wife is not here, lol.

@Robusto As a matter of fact, my mother is doing quite well, thank you.

Commuting. Laterz.

Say hi to your mom for me!
And turn over that turtle.

1 hour later…
7:43 PM
Hello @Farooq, lol.

user116848
Hey!

@Farooq How is your love life?

user116848
@WillHunting I don't have any.

user116848
How is yours?

None here, lol.

8:09 PM
Welcome home @matt, lol.

Hi.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 "The amount of time I spend waiting for the pop-ups to fade so I can use the searchbar or back button underneath is infuriating. I usually want to finish what I'm doing before jumping into a notification. This basically makes the top of your screen unusable if you're part of busy Whatsapp / Telegram / Hangouts group chats."
Agree or disagree?
And features do you think are a serious improvement over Kitkat?

@Cerberus I haven't seen this behaviour. It sounds annoying, but what "back button underneath" does he mean?

@Cerberus A coworker got Lollipop and haaaaaaates it.

@Cerberus The priority notifications thing, actually. Being able to silence ALL apps at once as a core feature.
I have uninstalled my old email client, because now I can use the stock GMail one for everything, because FINALLY my email client won't wake me up at night.
And email clients are bad for battery use, so that's a plus.
I am unsure about how much I like Chrome integrating its tabs into the task switcher.

8:24 PM
@Robusto multiple vocals: ew

@JohanLarsson *eeeeeeuuwww
Besides, don't tell @tchrist you have a problem with multiple vocals.

I think multiple vocals is correlated with high selfie-frequency.

<- never taken a selfie in his life

@Robusto I like it so far. It's visually quite different from the old look, which dates back to honeycomb, and that's a bit jarring at first, but I don't find that I hate it. I do prefer the old buttons better. Now they're a triangle, a circle, and a square. Looks dumb.

I didn't accuse you, still think it might be correlated. May | might | ??

8:26 PM
Also never done Instagram, Snapchat, Tinder, wevs.

@Robusto Same here. Great men think alike, lol.

Have never tweeted, and haven't made a Facebook entry in about six years. Haven't visited the site in three or more.
Also no WhatsApp.
Or Farmville.

I use facebook

I'm into antisocial media.
3

don't post much but use the chat

8:27 PM
I only have outlook, SE and amazon accounts, lol.

@Robusto Aw, I was just going to ask you to message me so I can test Cerb's theory that Lollipop is total shit that nobody should use

I had zero likes lifetime until a couple of months ago.

I try not to use Google Circles, or whatever they're calling it now.

They've never called it that

@JohanLarsson Awww . . . your story is so sad I'm almost sorry I got high on endorphins.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 What is it called now?
I can't be arsed to think about things I don't use. Sosiouxme.
Well, well, well. They're calling it that right the fuck now.

8:30 PM
@Robusto Google+
No, you're just misinterpreting it.
Circles are a feature of Google+.

One day, I will delete all my accounts again, but it is not this day.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 He means the button in the upper left corner of the screen, the ones that will e.g. go back to your list of conversations in Whatsapp, or open the hamburger menu in Gmail.

It says circles.

@Robusto Yay! What does he hate about it most?

@Robusto Yeah, it also says "Bold" in the menu bar but the product is Microsoft Word, not Microsoft Bold

8:32 PM
I rest my case.

A circle is a circle, QED, LOL.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 You mean silence all notifications at once except those from phone calls? Because I silence everything every night by pressing the volume button down, that's it.

Hey, haven't you ever heard of metonymy?
Or would that be synecdoche in this case?

@Cerberus What? They have hamburgers?
@Robusto you mean skeuomorphism.

@Mitch It's really disappointing. Not like you get real hamburgers.

8:34 PM
@Robusto No Farmville?? But how do you maintain your social life then??

@Mitch No. I mean coitus.

@Robusto hopes dashed
@Robusto Nice! I think.

@Cerberus It's an antisocial life. Can't you tell?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 *bug. As is all of Google Plus.

@Cerberus an actual farm. in a city. called Farmville.

8:35 PM
Like Greta Garbo, I want to be alone.

@Mitch Android has a hamburger menu, yes.

@Robusto Just like the product isn't called "Starred" or "Important" or "Chats" or "Drafts" it isn't called "Circles". Circles are just groups of people you've set up in Google+.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 What about the hamburgers!!!!

@Robusto I am shocked! I play Farmville and Mafia Wars with my friends about 16 hours a day.

8:36 PM
@Mitch Figures it would be in a red state.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 La-la-la-la-la-la I can't hear see you puts fingers in ears eyes ouch!!

@Cerberus Wonderful. I do nothing, because A) I don't want to block calls, and B) the phone does it for me based on time of day, and C) I hate it when my ringer volume is changed.

@Mitch Life in a Facebook app is real life to me.

thanksgiving leftovers finished... still hungry

@Cerberus Anyway those notifications from apps that popup over things: you can swipe to dismiss.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 So anyway, I have deleted my Circles account altogether.

8:37 PM
@Cerberus wonderful. I use mine every day. It is useful and convenient.

@Cerberus so you're pointless?

I don't trust anything that came out after 2012. I'm a reactionary.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 My ringer volume is always either off or at full volume. I don't go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, so I would have to change the time every day, which is probably more work than simply holding down the volume button.

@Cerberus I've heard that some people disfavor the acronym 'IRL' because they feel like being online is a viable part of real life.

Remember the good old days, when we all thought the world was going to end at the finish of the Mayan calendar?

8:39 PM
@Mitch My only life now is online.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Ah, but then you cannot deal with them later: they will have disappeared. Besides, if you're in a Whatsapp group with a temporary message boom, have fun swiping every second.

@Robusto I don't trust anything after August. Kid's these days just don't understand Summer 2014.

@Robusto It's not a bad thing for the world to end, considering there is so much shit in the world.

@Cerberus Just this afternoon, I had a headache, and wanted to take a nap, so I enabled priority mode for one hour. That way, when I wake up, it is off, and I don't have to remember to re-enable the volume on my phone. PLUS calls will still get through, which is what I want.

@Mitch Umm...any more so than before? A Circle isn't a point?

8:40 PM
@Robusto ha ha. people are dumb, because we know it's going to end on Jan 15, 2013.

Honestly, cerb, for all the whining and complaining and doomsaying about priority mode, it works EXACTLY how I want it to work. I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

@Cerberus But a point is a circle of zero radius. Math wins again!!!!!

@Mitch Haha, yes, I have heard this too. I have to say it may be kind of not nice to say "IRL" when talking to people who don't often see people physically, for whatever reason; Internet contact can be just as valuable.

@Mitch That's a misinterpretation of yerih'ahna. If you read it as March, you'll see it means April 15th. Tax-time. A coincidence? I think not.

@Cerberus I dunno. If I'm in some kind of group messaging thing where there are constant messages coming in it will be annoying and distracting no matter what.

8:41 PM
@WillHunting Write notes to Maria. Then slip them under the door of random people in your apartment building.

@Cerberus IVL is more appropriate.

Have you met my good friend Maria
The craziest girl on the block!
You'll know her whenever you see her
She's the one who is in an advanced state of shock!

She thinks she's in love
She thinks she's in Spain
She isn't in love
She's merely insane.

@Robusto SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP YOU'RE GIVING IT ALL AWAY! THE LIFE BOAT ONLY HOLDS SO MANY!

@Mitch Maria said hi to me after three weeks of silence. Then she said hi again after two weeks of silence. At this rate, nothing will be achieved, lol. I should forget about this current Maria.

8:43 PM
@WillHunting Use some other name then

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Right, not having to re-up the volume when you wake up is a slight advantage. But having to set a time would take longer for me: I can switch between silence and full volume quickly and without looking. And I would never want calls to wake me up at night!
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 It's really odd, the current way works exactly as I want it.

@Cerberus If someone needs to reach me at night, they will call. If they call, it will be because it's important. If they don't need to reach me, I don't want their notification waking me.

'Re-up the Volume' was a hip-hop sensation in 2019.

@Cerberus The new way differs only in that it has more features and doesn't have vol-down-until-vibrate-is-off.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 By the way, I normally have Tasker set up such that my phone goes on vibrate during all appointments. Just as I did in Windows Mobile 6 in 2008. So I only need to change the volume before bed, really.

8:45 PM

But you can just pick "priority" for that and turn off calls, if that's what matters to you.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Not really: I have sound off for group messages, and the constant notification ticker does not hinder me at all when I'm using my phone, but I'm still subtly alerted that something is going on.

@Robusto all I see are ads for Samsung.

@Robusto Is the Matric virtual?

@Mitch Patience, grasshopper.
@Cerberus You mean Matrix? Or are you getting high on the matric system again?

8:46 PM
@Mitch I saw an ad for people kissing on the beach

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Meh, people might call when you want to sleep or don't want any sound at all, such as in a theatre.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 That's better than a hamburger, IMO.
Do they have a special setting for people who are calling to give you a BJ? That would be priority, IMO.
I mean, what if you miss that call? You'd be kicking yourself.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 You only see what you want to see. Wait, I don't want a samsung.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 The latter part would be my biggest problem. What might be a problem for new or less phone-savvy people would be the fact that they have to set it up in a rather complicated way first, and they might be forced to do so at an inconvenient time, because the while system has changed and they aren't properly warned.
@Robusto Hah. The Matrix indeed.

@Robusto locust swarm. can't find my mom

8:49 PM
Or...perhaps the metric system is bits of Matrix code shimmering throught the cracks of the virtual box, subtly affecting our "world"...

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Wait (again), is that an ad to sell people kissing on the beach?

@Cerberus In a theatre I set it to "None" which silences calls. Also it lets me pick "indefinitely" or set a time period.

@Cerberus I saw a glitch.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Right, that makes sense.

For a second, everything was 9 based.

8:51 PM
@Cerberus I honestly don't understand why you think it's complicated. It's truly not complicated at all.

Not for you and me.

The world imploded, blood rained from the skies, cats and dogs etc etc

No, seriously, it's much easier to silence this phone than any I've ever had.

@Mitch Ouch! Who bit off my pinky finger!!

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I can't hear it. That much works just fine.

8:51 PM
@Mitch I have no idea what the product is.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 You have to go through menus to set up which apps get priority...

@Cerberus ??? Why would I want to do that? NONE of them get priority.

How could anything be as quick and convenient as simply holding down the volume button?

@Cerberus If you play guitar your right pinkie really isn't that useful.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Well, your phone application? Your alarm clock?

8:52 PM
@Cerberus Out of the box, if you pick "none" it is silent. If you pick "pirority" it only allows calls and alarms.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Jeans, obviously. Or a car.

@Mitch That's only true for plectrum style, not flamenco.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 People don't know that. They have to delve into the options to find out. It's not a grandma-friendly transition.

@Robusto I withhold comment. And I mean it to sting.

Ouch.

8:54 PM
@Mitch That is a relief. Unfortunately, I don't play the guitar...

@Cerberus No, they don't have to do that. It just works. If they know nothing, it just works.

Your choices are: "None (not even calls and alarms), Priority, All" That is the actual text
Who in the world is going to assume the "Priority" means "nothing until you configure your phone app as priority"?

@Mitch Ooh, I like that word.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 It does not: if they pick "none" at night, the way they're used to, they won't wake up. EVER. If they pick "priority" at the theatre, thinking that only alarms will go through, they and the people on the stage are in for a nasty surprise.

8:56 PM
@Cerberus Did you read what I wrote?
1 min ago, by Mr. Shiny and New 安宇
Your choices are: "None (not even calls and alarms), Priority, All" That is the actual text
If you pick "None", it CLEARLY says "no calls, no alarms"

Okay, that text helps.
But still, it has changed for very simple to something else.

If you pick "Priority" it doesn't say that and it lets you configure WHAT is priority, and the default is calls + alarms.
@Cerberus You can STILL just lower the volume until it's silent.

It will vibrate!

The ONLY thing you can't do is lower the volume until the vibrate is off.
So what?! really. So. What.

@Cerberus Any port in a storm, I guess.

8:58 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 And why the hell not?

Just pick "none" then.
problem solved.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Vibration makes noise.

@Cerberus Where are you going to be that that is a problem.

@Robusto I have others... looks some up

Give me ONE example where you can't just pick "none".

8:58 PM
@Cerberus More and more until she reaches climax.

Going to the theatre? Pick "none", set it for the length of the show, afterwards it turns off by itself.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I don't want to have to spend longer doing the same thing I have always because they removed a feature for no good reason. Why can't I hold down the button to silence any more? What reason could Google possibly have for that?

And that's assuming you don't want it to vibrate: I usually DO want it to vibrate in the theatre.

Or goes off during the encore.

@Robusto Well, I'm not a port. I am a dog listening to an opera.

9:00 PM
@Cerberus Maybe they did a survery of their users and forgot to include you, but found that many users were confused by the behaviour or didn't like it.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I could, but holding the volume button is much more efficient.

I mean, seriously, "vibration makes noise", so does your breathing.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 People would cast evil glances at me.

@Cerberus how loud IS your phone?

@Cerberus Which one?
@Cerberus You can't prevent that.

9:01 PM
@Robusto I see, so the reason they have disabled hold-button-to-silence is because they are preparing Android for running it on smart sex toys?

Because most cell phones I've seen don't make that much noise when they vibrate. Certainly not when they're in your pocket or purse.

@Cerberus That's the obvious inference.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 What advantage is there to anyone to not have that function any more?

@Cerberus If enough people found it confusing or annoying, the advantage is the removal of (to them) a mis-feature.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Vibration during a concert is just not OK. It is liking lighting up your screen at the cinema, except worse.

9:02 PM
@Cerberus Then just set it to "none".

@Robusto I listened to the Zauberflöte yesterday, but at home.

Honestly you are making this into a big deal when in fact it affects your life maybe 20s each year.

@Robusto I can, by sitting perfectly still.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I have had people cast evil glances at me when my phone vibrated in class, for example. People can hear it.

@Cerberus What a strange place you live in.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 This is Apple talk, and you know it. Pressing volume down to turn the volume down to 0 is "confusing"? Even though it has always been that way?

9:04 PM
Maybe the problem is your neighbours are all oversensitive jerks?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I don't want to have to spend an extra two seconds.

@Cerberus "Apple" talk? You mean good product development.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 No, we're just expected to be silent when somebody is talking.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Oh, dear, let's not give users a choice, not even hidden in settings menus, lest it be "confusing", and of course all our users have the IQ of a lemon!

@Cerberus You fail to understand that every user choice increases the cost of the product development.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 It's just good manners. You don't cough during a movement of a concert, only between movements. Nor do you vibrate.

9:07 PM
@Cerberus So set it to "none". Problem solved.
Or turn it off.
Like, actually off.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Then let's remove any and all choices, like Apple. Because Google is so poor they can't afford to have someone spend a few hours looking at a stable feature they have always had.

Then it can't accidentally sound off in some surprising way.
@Cerberus The feature is not stable, didn't you notice? They overhauled this entire bit of UI.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Again, I don't want to spend several seconds doing what used to take 0.5 seconds, and have to look at it too.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 It's perfectly stable, and we both know someone will write a stable Xposed module in no time to get back the old way. If Xposed will ever be possible on ART, that is...

@Cerberus Most people have to look at their phone to do anything at all with it. So you fall into the tiny percentage of people who vol-down-until-no-vibrate-in-my-pocket. You're probably one of only 5 people affected.
@Cerberus I don't know what you mean by "stable" then. The user interface for the volume control changed.

Nah, everyone silences his phone by using the volume button. It is quick, simple, and effective.

9:10 PM
Drastically.
@Cerberus without looking at it?
without looking at it, to the degree that choosing the easily available silence modes isn't a better alternative?

Yes, because after 50 times your hands know where the volume buttons are.

I have to pin-unlock my phone

I don't .

right away, that means looking at it. At that point I can silence it faster than I could before.

You still need to go to some menu where you have to look at a button and tap it, right?

9:12 PM
The "menu" appears when you first press the volume.

So then you are already pressing the volume button!
It's like having to switch to the mouse for Enter.

yeah, but I just press it once, briefly, then touch "none" or "priority". Then, because I don't want to forget to turn it back on, I set a time limit. It's 10x more convenient than the old way.

You know what it feels like when you're looking at someone who types his password, then switched to the mouse to click on "log in"?

I'm sorry. It must be hard being you. This new change is ruining your life, I can tell.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Is that button at the top of the screen? Can you easily press the volume button, then tap the None button with one hand in 500 ms?

9:15 PM
@Cerberus It's right under the volume slider which is at the top of the screen.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 So that's hard to reach.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 My world is shattered!
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Awwww.
So cyoote!
So by the way, what do you like most about Lollipop?

@Cerberus I get it, I get it. you hate the feature. Fine! I like the feature and consider it an improvement in every way that's relevant to me.
@Cerberus The new priority notifications feature.

Correction: what I hate is the removal of a feature.
Ah.
And besides that?

@Cerberus the changing of how a feature works.
@Cerberus besides that... it's not all that much different.
Everything is Material themed now
The task switcher is a bit better in some ways.

They have removed the ability to use a physical button to silence the phone in a single action, that is the removal of a feature to me. But no matter, we have exhausted the subject.

9:23 PM
The lock screen shows notifications now in a useful way.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 How so? What I hate most about the task switcher is how it shows you only 3 apps(!) and how it is so very slow to load because of the screenshots.

Oh, they have multi-user support on phones now, which I haven't used yet but really like the concept of.
@Cerberus My old task switcher showed 50% blank squares.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I'm iffy about that: now everyone can see your messages on your lock screen when they look at your phone? Appointment at abortion clinic, then dirty message from mistress?

What I don't like about the new task switcher is that it's not swipe-to-close and that means you have to wait a second to get the X button to appeaer
@Cerberus Yes, well, you can turn it off.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 And Locked Mode, or something, which seemed nice. Where you can lock someone into a single app.

9:25 PM
@Cerberus yeah it doesn't work.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Huh? Blank?

@Cerberus yes. blank squares.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Huh?? No swipe to close?

@Cerberus no, it's X to close
oh, my mistake

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yes, I like having the option. I'm just not sure I will use it.

9:26 PM
you can swipe

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Why not?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Why? That's weird?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Phew. I was already prepping a second Apple/regression rant...

@Cerberus Many apps are designed such that the back button exits.
When the app exists, you're back to the home screen and the "pinned" feature turns itself off.
@Cerberus Yeah it's weird. But it was happening in Chrome and several other apps.
@Cerberus you can swipe away notifications from the lock screen, so it's more of a problem for weirdos who leave their phone unattended.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Oh! That's stupid, then.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 How can I reproduce this?

@Cerberus I think it just doesn't work well and probably shouldn't have been released as a feature.
@Cerberus I dunno.

I have seen black screenshots, but only when I had force-closed the app from within or something.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Right, that is a dilemma...
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Odd. Surely they could have intercepted block any action that exists the app.
So those things you mentioned aren't super interesting for me, not really a reason to get enthusiastic about L.

9:33 PM
@Cerberus There is a new battery saver mode which lots of OEM phones had. But so far I'm unimpressed with battery life. Considering they had "Project Volta" I expected more.
The Smart Lock feature is one I wanted to use but it turns out not to be useful for me.
Supposedly it has
> Improved network handoffs resulting in limited interruption in connectivity. For example, continue your video chat or VoIP calls without interruption as you leave the house and switch from your home Wi-Fi back to cellular
I haven't seen that in action, but that's nice to have

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Hmm. But yeah, if your phone is operating properly, I don't see how you could save a huge amount of energy, unless you're using it very lightly: then a small amount per day might matter.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Ah, yes, that is handy.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Smart Lock?

@Cerberus where it disables the pin code under certain conditions. I wanted one condition to be "trusted wi-fi network"
@Cerberus The phone might be operating properly, but that doesn't mean "optimally". There are potentially vast power savings to be had.
They might, however, depend on uninstalling certain apps that use up power and haven't been updated.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Ah, that. So why don't you like it?
Or was it that it didn't work with Wifi?
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Such as?
You need regular polling...
Even my pathetic phone doesn't use a huge deal of power when I'm not using it, it's the cell chip that uses the most power, when I'm not on Wifi.

9:52 PM
@Cerberus it only has "trusted NFC", "trusted bluetooth", and "trusted face"
@Cerberus Such as eliminating polling.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I am speechless. Why, oh, why didn't Google do Wifi??
I hope you're not going to try and defend that.

10:11 PM
@Cerberus Maybe due to security concerns? I dunno.
I suspect it's because they want to sell Android Wear devices

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Security concerns? Surely that choice should be up to the user? It is more than well known that many people use and like Wifi unlock, if only by the large number of applications in the Play Store.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I like your cynical mindset.
Bye!

Fly!
