@MattЭллен ɔwiz ən ɔːfn
Hmm, Wiktionary doesn't even give anything like what (I think) my pronunciation of always in normal speech is. All their transcriptions have the /l/ and /z/, none are like /ɔwiz/ or /ɔwi/...

user19161
Oh well, I posted anastrophe as an answer to the learning always question.

user19161
@aediaλ Hmm, maybe that is just a lazy way of speaking?

I don't think I have as many sounds in mine as the US recording unless I'm like, indignant, and yelling "ALWAYS!" back at someone in answer to, I don't know, something I would normally get enraged about that I can't think of a suitable example of

user19161
@aediaλ The last one there is way off!

@JasperLoy Dialect isn't a lazy way of speaking.
As a simple example, there are rhotic and non-rhotic accents, and in different places and social groups, they have different amounts of prestige.

user19161
9:11 PM
@MattЭллен Wait that is a woman?

user19161
I thought it was a man, but I am still not sure.

she is a woman
@aediaλ hmm. I shall have to figure out how I pronounce it

Sound changes are also still happening all the time. Language isn't done being made. My idiolect is gonna help shape the future! ;)
In linguistics, assimilation is a common phonological process by which one sound becomes more like a nearby sound. This can occur either within a word or between words. In rapid speech, for example, "handbag" is often pronounced [ˈhambag], and "hot potato" as [ˈhɒppəteɪtoʊ]. As in these two examples, sound segments typically assimilate to a following sound (this is called regressive or anticipatory assimilation), but they may also assimilate to a preceding one (progressive assimilation). While assimilation most commonly occurs between immediately adjacent sounds, it may occur between soun...

user19161
Why are you here @nohat?

@JasperLoy greetings to you as well

9:18 PM
hi @nohat :)

Hiya!

@JasperLoy I'm sure you didn't intend that to sound as accusatory and unwelcoming as it did

user19161
@nohat Nope I just meant that I don't see you in chat very often.

user19161
@aediaλ I don't get what it is trying to say.

9:22 PM
Like, we totally infected everyone with our uptalk, you know? and now they have vocal fry and like, eventually everyone is going to be using language the way young women today are.

@aediaλ ɔːweɪz ɑːnd ɒfɛn

Ooh so Britishy!

user19161
@aediaλ You just infected this room with like. Using it is so like cute.

@aediaλ :D that's me

user19161
@MattЭллен You are British, not Britishy. QED.

9:27 PM
I really do have several of those features, but it's my husband who I catch saying "you know?" at the end of everything. I haven't noticed vocal fry but I may not move in the right circles anymore. Going to have to keep an ear out next time I volunteer with kids.

user19161
I have yet to test whether the auto rep recalc works!

@aediaλ I think I understand what vocal fry is. Wikipedia tells me Britney uses it in Oops I Did It Again

user19161
@MattЭллен Somehow I have a feeling that is the song which starts with yea yea yea yea yea.

possibly
oh, I hear what it is

user19161
I think I heard that song more than a decade ago.

9:33 PM
@MattЭллен Oh that's a good example yeah

I can't stop hearing it now
:D

user19161
@MattЭллен You should switch to Flying without Wings then.

user19161
I think I heard it 500 times.

that would likely kill me

Hellooo.

user19161
9:36 PM
@mahnax Boo!

@JasperLoy I greet you!

@MattЭллен I can identify it fine in music and produce it but I don't think I routinely use it, except that I probably used to in singing when I was in a choir way back when.

I am reading Le Petit Prince.

user19161
@aediaλ Ah this is new to me, you in a choir.

user19161
@Mahnax It should be Le Petit Prince Mahnax.

9:41 PM
Ce livre est très magnifique.
@JasperLoy Neh.
Je ne suis pas un prince.

I have one of ye dreaded Facebooks though for family and come to think of it, my younger relatives do write posts consisting of an excessive number of repeated letters, so I will have to pay attention to how they speak next time I see them in person

:D close scrutiny is required!

user19161
@Mahnax Well, maybe simply Le Petit Mahnax then.

@JasperLoy Mais je ne suis pas petit!

they write, like "awesomeeeeeeee" or ... hmm, I'm not sure that's right actually, there's some rule for what letters to repeat probably, like in lolcat grammar, there's a bit of rules after all...
Drat, now I don't know anything.

9:42 PM
LIK DIS IF U CRY EVERTIM

user19161
Lolcat grammar is new to me.

user19161
I must go find a book in the library on this.

I can haz Lolcatz book?

There's a video. I'm sure I posted it here before, or someone did

9:43 PM
Hi!

user19161
Le Petit Lolcat

Hi.

9:44 PM
Pah.

user19161
@cerb is le petit loldog.

I'm not petit!

> @Cerb est le grand loldog.
FTFY.

9:45 PM
Merci bien!

De rien.

user19161
@MattЭллен Long John Silver's Combo 1 is my favourite!

user19161
Two pieces of chicken, fries and drink.

@Mahnax Dear god where has two minutes of my life gone that I will never get back?!? hangs head in shame

user19161
I dare you all to type an answer like that!

@JasperLoy Will you upvote it?

1
A: Should I prefer "asker" or "questioner" for a person who asked a question?

Mark BeadlesEither one is all right and does not really carry bad connotations in my experience. But "questioner" is by far the more common word: So I would stick with questioner in most cases.

This comes as a total surprise to me.

Oh, I received 1 rep for no reason.

9:50 PM
If you ask me, nobody uses "questioner", ever.
"Asker" I hear all the time.

@Reg, can you explain random gains of 1 rep, which cite a removal on a question that is not deleted as the reason?

user19161
@RegDwightѬſ道 Perhaps the ngram shows the words in other contexts?

@RegDwightѬſ道 I agree.

user19161
@Mahnax You downvoted an answer that is now gone.

9:51 PM
Search this very chat.

yeah, I agree with the OP in their comment. Questioner is more for some sort of interrogation

122 askers, only 22 questioners.

@JasperLoy Aha!
That would make sense.

user19161
@Mahnax Indeed, it makes dollars as well.

@Mahnax -1 reps you only get for downvoting an answer.

9:54 PM
@RegDwightѬſ道 That sentence does not appear grammatically valid to my eyes.

So if you get that much back, that's because an answer got deleted.

Yeah, Jasper established that.
I suppose that I overlooked the possibility since I rarely downvote answers.

@Mahnax then use your nose or feet.

user19161
But there could be another combination to give plus one point, though I am not going to think about that.

@RegDwightѬſ道 Feet on top of desks in English class are not appreciated.

user19161
9:55 PM
@Mahnax It is an example of anastrophe.

Nöone told you to read that sentence on top of your desk.
@JasperLoy Aye.

Oh, okay.

user19161
@Mahnax And you can just say grammatical which is shorter.

@JasperLoy I didn't want to.

user19161
@Mahnax Aye, that is an example of verbosity.

9:57 PM
I know.

I'll take verbosity over adjectivosity any time.

nounosity apples

user19161
Talking about combos, KFC combo 1 is also my favourite!

user19161
Combo 1s are always the best!

Cccccombo breaker.

user19161
10:01 PM
@MattЭллен I just looked at the picture carefully and realized there was more than meets the eye!

somewhat below the belt, no?

user19161
transformers more than meets the eye

user19161
transformers robots in disguise

user19161
@MattЭллен And also coming out from the mouth.

Ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-macron one, ma-ma-ma-ma, ma-ma-macron one.

user19161
10:03 PM
It seems like whatever got hit flew out from the mouth.

user19161
feel the power

user19161
LOL

I think it was created by Haim Saban, that multibillionaire who owns everything Murdoch doesn't own, and who invents Power Rangers in his spare time. And then broadcasts it on all his channels.
He probably wrote the music, too.
At least there's no doubt about the lyrics.

user19161
I still like the piano music in the Putin video yesterday.

10:07 PM
was a super robot anime series produced in 1981 and aired in 1982 in Japan. It is variously referred to in English as "Demon God of the War-Torn Land GoShogun", "Warring Demon God GoShogun", "Civil War Devil-God GoShogun" and "Macron 1". Original story A meteor strikes the Earth and is found to emanate a powerful new energy called Beamler, which is used to power a battle robot, GoShogun, and a teleporting fortress, Good Thunder. The Docougar Crime Syndicate, led by crime lord Neo Neros, tried to steal the secret technology from Professor Sanada, the inventor of GoShogun. But when c...
Well I wasn't that far off.
> Taking two (or more) unrelated series and re-editing them to appear to take place in the same continuity was a somewhat common practice of the day for importing anime series to American television; besides Macron 1, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, Robotech, and Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years were also stitched together in this manner. The combined series was produced and released in the United States by Saban

I patiently await the day I am needed to pilot a giant fighting robot to protect the Earth

So you are at fault it's not happening! Wait more impatiently, dammit!

I intend to make cream puffs tonight, @Cerb.

user19161
@Mahnax Wow both of you are great cooks!

Interestingly enough, Wikipedia has no picture of Haim Saban.
That's like not having a picture of, I dunno, Jesus.

10:12 PM
@JasperLoy Merci/Kiitos.

user19161
@RegDwightѬſ道 Maybe he is a robot in disguise.

Nah I mean everyone has seen him. He's a public figure. I know what he looks like.

user19161
I watched this Japanese drama in which there was a robot like a human. The actress kept saying Ro-bo-to!

user19161
It sounds a bit like Robusto.

I watched Princess Mononoke once.

user19161
10:14 PM
I watched Princess Diaries.

> Saban started his career in 1966 as a bass player and manager with the rock band The Lions of Judah. [...] In the early 1970s Saban moved to France where he worked as a music producer. [...] He has frequently used the name Kussa Mahchi for his composing credits on Saban Entertainment productions, including the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie theme song.

Gotta run, school's over. Bye!

I wouldn't use no pseudonym to sign off my Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie theme song!

user19161
@Mahnax Have fun!

user19161
@RegDwightѬſ道 go go power rangers

10:16 PM
... The Movie.

cya @Mahnax

Princess Mononoke is Gimli, and not remotely in the same ballpark.
> In 1998, The Hollywood Reporter reported that he did not actually compose all the music (totalling 3,700 works in 2008) he is credited for; ten composers threatened to sue and Saban settled out of court.

@Mahnax Oh, nice! With chocolate sauce?

Even Mozart can't claim 3700 works for himself.

Not even 3700?
If you include Leck den Arsch, or whatever it's called?

10:33 PM
good night!

@MattЭллен Night!

10:50 PM
@Cerberus The Köchelverzeichnis comprises some 650-odd works.

@RegDwightѬſ道 Hmm true.

... and the Wikipedia article lists them all, wow.
:This is a complete list of the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, listed chronologically. For a selective list of his works, grouped by genre, see List of compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Köchel-Verzeichnis is a complete, chronological catalogue of compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–91) which was originally created by Ludwig von Köchel. It is abbreviated K or KV. For example, Mozart's Requiem in D minor was, according to Köchel's counting, the 626th piece Mozart composed. Thus, the piece is designated K. 626 or KV 626. Köchel catalogue numbers not only attem...

But he always seem to be so very prolific, so many very similar frolicky tunes...

Yeah but then he'd bundle like five hundred of them together to a single work.

As in a single KV?

10:56 PM
Well you think different parts of The Requiem, or a given piano concerto, have separate numbers or what?
And last I checked, Die Zauberflöte offered more than one tune, too.
But yeah, arguably 6 German Dances and 12 Minuets are eighteen separate works, but still, you probably won't get all the way up to 3700.

@Cerb Yeah, probably. The chocolate sauce, that is.

Anyways, I'll try to go to bed a bit earlier this time. So night all.

Night.
I use that recipe for the pastry, but I just put sweetened whipped cream in the middle.
And I inject the cream, not cut & scoop like the picture.

@RegDwightѬſ道 Right, agreed. So were we arguing about anything? Hehe.
Night!
@Mahnax Oh, yes, just cream is much better that this pudding-like thing they want you to use!

@Cerberus Agreed. I didn't even try the pudding crap, I just scoffed at it and went straight to cream.
They turned out beautifully.
Also, the baking is parent approved now, so I can begin as soon as I obtain the correct number of eggs.

11:05 PM
Parent approved?
How do you mean? They might disapprove? confused

My mom doesn't often let me bake things that consume large amounts of eggs or butter.
Also, @Reg @Kit @Vit @Cerb ; I have a friend who is ~level 20 in WMT, and he's looking for a faction. Are you open to accepting him?

@Mahnax Why not?
@Mahnax I have no idea, but Reg and Vit will tell you.

@Cerberus Calories + resource depletion

Hmm so how often would you bake such things?

Maybe once every 2 months or so.
I don't enjoy making cream puffs much, actually.
They are very frustrating sometimes.

11:08 PM
If your health is suboptimal fat-wise and you bake unhealthy stuff twice a week, I might understand; but every two months?

Well, I don't ask to bake such things often.

Hmm.
No comment, then.
Since I'm not your parent, hehe.

Heh.
My health is fine, though.
I am physically fit.

Well.

Yeah, yeah. My parents have stupid rules.

11:13 PM
If I ever got to meet your parents, I'd gently inquire why they won't just let you bake some good stuff every odd week or so!

I can bake good things, just not things with loads of one ingredient.

It's probably a phase anyway, hehe.

Meh.
It doesn't really matter.
I hate this friggin mission.
Neither of my good decks can do anything against it.
I have tried at least ten times and succeeded twice.

Hmmm...study what cards bother you the most, and figure out which skill counters them.

They have a Goliath.
Its armour is so bothersome.
Yay! Beat it again with my Xeno deck. Only four more times…
Lucky hit with Airstrike.

11:20 PM
Against armour, use pierce and strike.
They probably want you to use pierce.

I only have one good Xeno card with pierce. I have two strike 4 (Airstrikes) and those help.
Xeno Mothership helps too.

Then use a non-Xeno card?
Don't fixate on pure decks to much.

Well, we'll see.

11:35 PM
Hmm. No good pierce cards.

They don't need to be good.
What mission is this anyway?
Which number?

They do need to be good to survive.
51, I think.

@Matt: That truly is a Quixotic gentleman of the bravest sort!
@Mahnax Ah OK, right, yes, then you can't simply use the correct skill to defeat missions.

@Cerberus Yep.
Gotta get lucky with them Airstrikes.

There's got to be a better way.

11:40 PM
More Airstrikes.

How about Havoc?
He's a good piercer.

Hmm, what faction?

Otherwise just use a strike-rush deck.
Raider.

Lemme see if I have him.
Nope.

Aww.

11:44 PM
Is he rare?

Yes.
Then I recommend a strike-rush deck.
Atlas, Predator, Tiamat, Rifter, EMP...

I have Atlas.

That's a start.
One of the best commanders ever.

I like it.
Brb.
Back.
Hmm, I just answered two questions in the span of 10 minutes.
I don't usually do that.

Sick!

11:55 PM
Pardon?
In the good sense, or the bad sense?

In the ambivalent sense!

Regarding what?

Regarding your answering two questions in ten minutes!

Oh.
I put effort into both.

Good!
