@Vogel612 Not really the right approach....
Hey Mug (Mat's or otherwise).

@rolfl that comment? hum... yea maybe a bit over the top, but as nothing happened for 2 months I thought I'd write something...

Mornking @rolfl

@Vogel612 - also, I added this to the break-discussion:
@Kvothe - break is a glorified GOTO, in the same way that a while loop, if statement, and for loop are all also glorified GOTO. What sets them apart is the target of the jump.... not the source. GOTO is ugly because the target of the jump is unconstrained. break is great because the target of the jump is a well-defined and optimized code-point. See what Knuth has to say about it, and realize that 'break' and 'continue' are the good kind of 'goto'. — rolfl 16 mins ago

Mat's MugThe loop in OutputArrayPoints has several redundant conditions. Mug, you have some catching up to do.... ;-)

1:05 PM
Java 8, why you no work?!
2

@Mat'sMug : *I've noticed you're systematically doing ++n or --n to increment or decrement*
That is done because it *is* faster in C/C++

@skiwi Not working is an old tradition followed by every member of the Java family.

@Morwenn what language is Windows written in?

@Morwenn you shouldn't start this flamewar as a follower of a language where I can produce segfaults when trying to print something to console.

@rolfl Not working is a norm @Microsoft.
3

1:07 PM
@rolfl then they should have called it ++C

(C=++C)++

IIRC ... the pre-increment can be done without a second register, and is thus more efficient.

@Vogel612 I didn't know we could have such a segfault in Python :o

Whether it has the same effect in C# I don't know.
It does not impact Java performance though.
(for better or worse).

1:10 PM
@Vogel612 That's because there is always something to review in C++ :D

A: What is the difference between i++ and ++i?

Eric LippertThe typical answer to this question, unfortunately posted here already, is that one does the increment "before" remaining operations and the other does the increment "after" remaining operations. Though that intuitively gets the idea across, that statement is on the face of it completely wrong. ...

When I have to develop an application that's supposed to do something, I use Python.

@rolfl This was my rage:

> Many people reason as though C# and C are the same language; they are not. The design of the increment and decrement operators in C# in my opinion avoids the design flaws of these operators in C.

oh, whatever, let's close the question in the meanwhile. Custom close reasons exist for a reason. (the previous sentence was brought to you by the department of redundancy department)

@Simon I'm sorry, but I got an appointment later on, you mind taking over on that migration thingy if nothing happens in the next 20 minutes?

@Vogel612 sure thing

Thanks, I owe you one.
how the only comments on the question itself are from @amon...

@Malachi personal projects > money :P

I mean, it's a good, helpful, legitimate question.

@Vogel612 it is, just not here

And that was... some stuff to read up again

Okay, two off-topic questions incoming. :-/

Q: Bitxor error in matlab

user35650I want to know how to perform bitxor on 2 inputs of varying size. For example I'm trying on inputs A and B, where A has the size (1:103) and B is string of varying length. Even after I compute double(B), the bitxor doesn't work. I get this error. Error using bitxor Inputs must have the same siz...

@amon Yes. If you migrate it, I'd reject it and send it right back to CR.
here we got it: programmers don't want the exception question

They're so... helpful then, no?
Maybe SO wants it?

I think that CR needs to self-evaluate, then.

@skiwi don't... it's "working code"
yea he was a bit stubborn..

There's tons of working code on SO, which still gets questioned about.

well I'm off to my appointment ;)

The only thing I can say abou tthat code is that it is going in directly against the design pattern Java uses

@skiwi they should come here then....

which @SimonAndréForsberg pointed out pretty much

5:46 PM
alright TTQW, cya guys.

@skiwi and some of them are perfectly good CR questions and get TONS of votes and attention on SO, and nobody mentions CR.

I dislike that that question asks would there be any reason that..., I'd be more okay if it starts like I made the following code and am in doubt of whether it is actually the correct thing to do

it's not even the OP's code

Just my opinion on it though
In other news, does anyone know if Joshua Bloch / Effective Java has any website?

Google should know that?

5:50 PM
Problem is, Google doesn't
And I don't know if I can say that there is no website if google thinks there isn't...

@skiwi Does seem like it. The guy does have a Wikipedia page though.

Lol I thought for a second that I had pressed Delete all recent answers, but it was (Show all) Deleted recent answers, slight difference
