Q: KeyValuePair implementation

Mat's MugIn order to implement my own Dictionary<TKey, TValue> in VB6, I've implemented a KeyValuePair class, which can accomodate any type as its key, or value. This KeyValuePair class implements the IComparable and IEquatable interfaces which I'm also using in this custom List<T> implementation KeyV...

Q: Dictionary<TKey, TValue> Implementation

Mat's MugThis class encapsulates a List<KeyValuePair> (see List<T> implementation here, and KeyValuePair implementation here) and exposes a richer set of members than the typical Scripting.Dictionary, ..not to mention the anemic Collection class. The class enforces some "type safety", in the sense that i...

@SimonAndréForsberg Moderators primarily rely on users to cast Close votes. That requires five users to agree. If a moderator votes to close, though, it gets closed immediately. That kind of heavy-handedness is undemocratic, so we are encouraged to do that only in egregious cases.
Jeff Atwood on May 17, 2009

We believe deeply in community moderation. That’s why we appoint Pro Tempore Moderators and, ideally, democratically elected community moderators for every site in our network. But what do community moderators do? The short answer is, as little as possible!

From the very first version of Stack Overflow faq way back in mid-2008, our goal has always been to give power back to the community:

Stack Overflow is run by you! If you want to help us run Stack Overflow, you’ll need reputation first. Reputation is a (very) rough measurement of how much the Stack Overflow community trusts you. R …

It's one of the reasons why we need more ≥10k users before we can graduate.

@200_success i had a query on SO do u think you can help me?
0
Q: Is a Python function stored as an object?

ShamThis query is in continuation with link to understand further on this point: In the case of functions, you have an object which has certain fields, which contain e. g. the code in terms of bytecode, the number of parameters it has, etc.

@Sham Well, you didn't exactly phrase it in the form of a question.

actually glglgl told me to raise a seperate question, so i assumed he can understand it, but later realised any query should be self contained. let me change the query
i changed the query
do u think it looks fine?

2:17 AM
@200_success i also notofied to all the users that i modified the query

@Sham Just be patient. Users will automatically be asked to review the question again if you edit it.

so success, the way python is implemented as dynamic language, we dont require interface concept in java to implement polymorphism right?
like interface concept*

@Sham Duck-typing works in Python, if that's what you mean.
2
A: Is this duck-typing in Python?

F.JYes, this is duck typing, which Python code can (and often does) use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duck_typing#In_Python Further up on the page there is a more complete example in Python: class Duck: def quack(self): print("Quaaaaaack!") def feathers(self): print("The d...

@rolfl There was a "bomb threat" on one of the planes... that was annoying.

And people freaked out.

I have these three eternal truths of travel... :
1. Don't fly via the US
2. Don't fly via the UK
3. Don't fly via Ethiopia
Security in the US is a PITA. (if you are in transit it is worse)
Baggage handlers or someone else will be on strike in the UK,
and no comment needed for the Addis Ababa trip I did.

@Jamal Any arguments to a function that aren't modified within a function should be declared as const.
And the return 0; isn't needed at the end of main() anymore. According to the standards.
I did a lot of reading on C and ObjC during the flights.
That should improve my reviews.

In this case, the two arrays in main() would be const? Same with the parameters?

3:18 AM
main(), yes; parameters, no since the array copies are modified within the functions.
@Jamal nvm, yes, the parameters as well. Except for b[] in perm().

Oh yeah. I'll be redoing this in Ideone anyway.

Mmm, I missed a lot of C questions during the course of my trip. :(

I just a bunch of Digital Programming books. among them is Core Python programming by Wesley J. Chun, I think that I just found my next conquest, that is if I ditch the C# game anyway.

4:42 AM
found some of my old arduino code, I might have to play with that one of these days get my kids all excited. maybe see if I can find some money to buy some parts and build a robot of sorts, maybe something to mow my lawn

You should... those things are so much fun

I once tried building a remote-controlled lawnmower as a college project. Didn't finish.
Analog-based remote control, not digital. It used two windshield wiper motors for the drive wheels.

I built an IR Remote control for my DLSR.... I did finish it, and then a month later sold the Camera (with the remote)

That part worked. The idea was to use a weed whacker for cutting, but we never got that far.

how did it work have the windshield wiper motors for the drive wheels? or were they they steering wheels?

4:53 AM
@rolfl Not really much of a loss, at least IME. My last two cameras have come with IR remotes, and I've virtually never used either one.

@JerryCoffin - it had a range of > 50 meters, was able, with a dentist's mirror to take pictures from behind.
It was great for camera-on-pod at a birdfeeder. with me in the house ;-)
(in the chair,, with a book, coffee, rugby game on, etc.)

@rolfl Build feeder next to window. Doesn't seem to bother the birds a bit.

Yeah, but that was not where the birdfeeder was (with the really nice tree next to it the birds would roost on between feeds
Also, I got ti use a pic10F202? to do it, something tiny

@rolfl Fair enough.
@rolfl Tiny but fun, I'd guess. Last time I played with a little microcontroller it was to update my old flash to work (including wirelessly) with newer cameras.

Found the data sheet.... 512 words for program (12-bit words), and 24 bytes (8-bit) of memory
I played with the bigger cousin to get all the nice peripherals (USB, i2c, etc.)
pic18F4680 IIRC

5:06 AM
@rolfl Really splurged and went past the $5.00 mark. A real spendthrift. :-)

get real, I sampled them ;-)

@rolfl Ah, there you go.

I did buy the programmer though
The best project with that was the lighting system for my daughter's puppet-theater.
I had a dozen RGB LED's 'stage-front', and I had the PIC set up for varius ways to drive them.
The power system for the LED's was challenging, but the code turned out OK.
The different colors in the LED had to be driven at different currents, and each one was switched, and PWM'd
That made for 36 different LED driver circuits.
which was essentially the GPIO of the part.
Actually, building the circuit board was the most complicated...
but, I am off to bed.

@rolfl G'night. And congratulations on the new promotion...

not breaking APIs on a global scale was the sole point of default methods in Java 8: back-compat is holy

Introducing doesn't break anything though... or does it?
I'm thinking that Java 9 is possibly not backwards compatible with som eold Java version... something will happen fi they want to get rid of type erasure and introduce reification

ChrisW is less than 100 rep away from 10K!

Hmm, choices, I need to pick a subject...
USE subjects in Q4:
- Customer Centricity > Innovating by design (1ZAUA0)
- Technology Entrepreneurship > Entrepreneurship in action (1ZAUB0)
- Robots Everywhere > Interaction with the social robot (0LSUD0)
- Robots Everywhere > Rational agents: robots & artificial intelligence (0LSUE0)
- Decisions under Risk and Uncertainty > Informational security and key management (0LAUC0)
- etc.
I have no clue what :(
Robots sounded cool, until they put the word social in it.
ANy suggestions/advice?

Those are all pretty 'soft' choices ... not very technical.
The AI is the one I would go for though.
meh, what other courses are you taking ?

6:49 PM
In general I'm taking Software Science
so pretty much all kinds of hardcore computer science subjects
Maybe I should check out what there was again under the etc tab, and read up on the AI one...

If you are going techy on the other subjects, you sort of need a soft subject too....

True that, I am quite done with techy subjects :p
Algorithms... hell

Not sure what they mean by key management, but the infosec course is also likely to be interesting (to me).

Hmpf, the one with AI has a prerequiresite which I cannot take
(I cannot just overrule it, for that I would've needed to go to the study coordinator... yesterday)

Decision making is a skill, that is actually hard, and also something you can learn and practice. That one could be a 'life skill' worth investigating.

6:53 PM
I really should've looked better, turns out most of the courses have a prereq (I already scanned the courses to be the first in their path, but apperantly that's not enough)

@syb0rg cough I think that code still contains some issues which were addressed in a certain code review

@amon I know, and I fixed them with a version of the code that is in use right now. But I can't access that version right now.

@syb0rg oh, right, I should read the context around chat messages. sorry

@amon It's fine :)

@syb0rg - add the link to the Meta ... ;-)

6:56 PM
Appereantly I am screwed either way, all of the courses that I can take in Quartile 4, have prerequisites, which I do not have

@rolfl I added that to the one answer on the feature request post. I'm wondering if I should port all the feature requests over to Github now...

You've got to remember though that students can come from any direction, so I think that I should qualify for robots & AI even without prereqs

I recommend art then - preferably photography ... it is a great skill, that also can be taught and practiced.
Makes for a person who can see things from a different perspective ;-)

Art is recommended to me? I suppose

@skiwi Sure, go ahead :) A Card Fighting game with a RPS AI will be interesting :)

7:02 PM
Was there a minimum requirement to the amount of cards?
Even though technically I can make a RPS 101 game
:))

@skiwi I would go for Technology Entrepreneurship > Entrepreneurship in action (1ZAUB0) and AI. Both :)

Would only make do sense to do one @SimonAndréForsberg, cannot really do the other one
I don't get this whole system from university... I actually 'got allowed' for the robots & AI course, but it also said as a notice that I did not have all prerequirements
Btw I went to the shop that sold me my PC screen and they kind of confirmed (by looking at photos from it), that it is broken...
But no one who was there is actually allowed to give a replacement screen, so got to wait until tuesday or thursday when the shop manager is there
I can't live 4 weeks without screen :(

@skiwi Are some of the prerequirements perhaps optional? :) (if that makes any sense, wouldn't be a requirement then would it?)

Well in general the site doesn't make any sense and is horribly broken...

@skiwi Requirements are here:

At least 10 different playable cards

Okay, 10 cards
That will require some RPS innovation :>

Out of interest, @skiwi - one of the best courses I did at university was one on 'Ethics' (I was planning on being an accountant at the time, the course made sense). The lecturer was a 'guest lecturer' who's full-time job was as a Rabbi. He was without doubt the most entertaining lecturer I ever had, and it taught me life skills I still appreciate today.

@rolfl Ethics & Law courses are awesome, even if only for the teachers that are there... I stil got one lecture to go next week from it. Best two teachers ever.
One of the two teachers claims he gets hold in custody every time the police sees him, but they never say why and he never gets arrested.

It is probably the 'all police are pigs' T-shirt he keeps wearing.

It's so bad his children don't want to go through the detection gates with him anymore...
@syb0rg Why is your bot so slow? :o Is it purely that there is a high backoff time?
@SimonAndréForsberg I'm still searching time for going over your review's comments to my RPS code... Need to find time, but Diablo III is stealing it.

Then stop playing Diablo 3 :)

Currently I've got to explain to some other project that I am very busy with university lately. Plays Diablo III quite a lot meanwhile while he could be working on the project.

Hm. Someone didn't like my edit.

Your's looks better. I'm rolling it back.

Alright. It's a new user, so it could be understood.

I'm not sure what to tell him in a comment...
"Don't un-Jamalize"?

Besides, "1<=T<=100000 2<=N<=10^7" doesn't make sense. They should be separate.
Nah. Just tell him that an edit for improvement should best be altered only if any meaning was lost.
And I don't think there was.

You should only change an edit for improvement of formatting only if any meaning in your question was lost. In this case, there wasn't any information lost, so I rolled back the edit. — syb0rg 47 secs ago

@syb0rg I was just being curious, or did I confuse your bot with @StackExchange?

@skiwi I think you confused it with @StackExchange. My bot takes ~30 seconds on average to post a new answer.

Where does @StackExchange come from then?

@skiwi In this chat room? @StackExchange posts the most recent questions ~6-8 weeks after they have been posted.
