Whoever downvoted you didn't leave reasons, let me guess: (1) you didn't attempt to answer the OP's question at all, (2) you offer no explanation about your code, (3) your code only works with a 32-bit int so it should be fast enough but is far different than the OP's 64-bit long. That said, your code could be faster and better organized, though perhaps CodeReview is the better place for that. — Rick Davin 44 secs ago

@Simon these flags likely have something to do with the "old" 10K review queues that were removed part-way through last year. The audit-trail for them is broken, and tracking them is a problem. Likely not worth investigating further.
I really don't remember it, but apparently there was a review queue that excessively long posts went in to... (low quality questions?)....
as it happens, since you flagged your own post in there somehow, it's likely because you handled your own post in the queue, along with a number of other regulars at the time

@rolfl That was the 10K flag-review-queue, yes.

Q: Remove the flag notification in the top bar when I have done my job with it

Simon André ForsbergI have the moderator privileges on Code Review. Why do I have to keep seeing that fl...

just VTC'd my own question there ^^

@SimonAndréForsberg I have what some people call a remarkable memory... I can remember many things, especially numbers, and often absurd amounts of trivia, but I also have an ability to completely forget things too when they become useless.
When there's a system in place to search for things, i rely on those systems....
when that system breaks, I'm lost.
but, if the process requires me to remember, then invariably I will.

Q: How do I create a new root by adding and removing nodes retrieved from the old root?

Jeroen VannevelI am creating a Code Fix that changes this: if(obj is MyClass) { var castedObj = obj as MyClass; } into this: var castedObj = obj as MyClass; if(castedObj != null) { } This means I have to do 3 things: Change the condition in the if statement. Move the casting right above the if state...

Have to rewrite a project file? No problem:
var editor = await DocumentEditor.CreateAsync(document);
editor.RemoveNode(variableDeclaration);
editor.ReplaceNode(ifStatement.Condition, newCondition);
editor.InsertBefore(ifStatement, new[] { variableDeclaration });.
var newDocument = editor.GetChangedDocument();
There you go, all kinds of modifications to the source

/home/pim/Documents/unabtoCamerav20/demo/devicesource/apexis_immobile/src/himain/himain.c:565: warning: 'enum enIRCUT' declared inside parameter list
/home/pim/Documents/unabtoCamerav20/demo/devicesource/apexis_immobile/src/himain/himain.c:565: warning: its scope is only this definition or declaration, which is probably not what you want

@Pimgd Indeed.

Yesterday I fixed all the warnings in one of my projects
except 1

Just like 'expecting' indicates you made a typo.

"Duplicated variable definition"

10:09 AM
Every time I've been writing VHDL I have to get used to not ignoring warnings.

hmm yeah but take this

In VHDL, you always get warnings. In C++, you shouldn't get warnings.

if(condition){
  for(var i:uint = 0; i < array.length; i++){
    array[i].someFunction();
  }
} else {
  for(var i:uint = 0; i < array.length; i++){
    array[i].someOtherFunction();
  }
}
that will give you a duplicate variable definition warning (twice) for i
since variables declared in a block can be used outside of that block
that the blocks are mutually exclusive, compiler don't care

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it belongs to CodeReview. — Andreas Niedermair 30 secs ago

it's a shame, because I have accidentally done iterating over a 2d array with i and i as indexes
and then you get the same warning
which I categorically ignore these days
but blame ActionScript for that one
@Mast I'm writing C right now and getting tons of warnings, but that's okay, right....?

10:20 AM
@Mast No idea, it just popped up as a tray icon today
probably because I'm so awesome
@Mast A diagnostic consists of 1) an analyzer and 2) a code fix (optionally).

@JeroenVannevel why do you prefer this alternative case?

Interesting, but, what youare looking for is the strategy pattern

10:48 AM
really?
hmmh
Strategy pattern usually "1 of these functions, and I'd like to swap runtime"

yeah, mayby I have the name wrong... what's the chain-of-responsibility pattern...
In object-oriented design, the chain-of-responsibility pattern is a design pattern consisting of a source of command objects and a series of processing objects. Each processing object contains logic that defines the types of command objects that it can handle; the rest are passed to the next processing object in the chain. A mechanism also exists for adding new processing objects to the end of this chain. In a variation of the standard chain-of-responsibility model, some handlers may act as dispatchers, capable of sending commands out in a variety of directions, forming a tree of responsibility...
There .... that one

> Each processing object contains logic that defines the types of command objects that it can handle; the rest are passed to the next processing object in the chain.

Create one handler for each validation type, then a list of those handlers....
pass your input down the chain until one of them "fails" to validate.

could work, mine is slightly different in that it does need to do all of them
it's... not a chain or a list of validators
it's a set

in your case, no-handler-able-to-handle-things is a success situation

Do I make 1 class per check?
or maybe per ... group of checks
hang on I already did this-ish

I have a SyntaxChecker it checks lines for syntax

@Pimgd Depends on the warning (how strict you got it), but under default strictness you should fix most warnings to keep your stuff stable.

would making sub-checkers resolve my issue?
hmhmmhmh

@Pimgd I've been thinking about sticking to my question for exactly that purpose. Although it isn't pure JavaScript, it would generate more traffic to that question.

(thinking out loud works best)
It solves the issue where one checker does too much

@Pimgd Which led to the invention of Rubberducking

10:57 AM
It doesn't solve my repeated code issue, but you have to define variables somewhere
@Mast yeah but I don't have any other tags I can stick to my question like that

In Java I would declare an abstract class with the bulk of the boilder-plate just once. Then the abstract method would do the actual validation.
let the IDE manage the repeating work.
Breakfast... gotta-run

I'll try to split up GrammarChecker into several subcheckers, see if that helps
maybe it will provide insights to fixing VariableChecker, which is a tangled mess beyond recognition
maybe it's an attitude problem
I reach for copy-paste too easily

@SimonAndréForsberg Are you sure that isn't a duplicate of some post?
Also, would a copy+paste of the on-topic helpcenter answer it?

@Mast his method returns a pointer it seems, so that is actually not as strange as it might look. He does say that he manages to change the value by doing that
@Mast I have searched, not find any duplicate. I believe that specific question hasn't been asked on our meta before.

@SimonAndréForsberg I haven't seen any books recommending such style yet, do you have an example by chance?

12:07 PM
@Mast I don't think our help center specifies what a code review is. Our help center is meant to specify what kind of questions are on-topic here, that's not entirely the same as what a code review is.

So, this meta would answer the question of 'What answers are on-topic?'

@Mast Just because it works doesn't mean it's recommended.

@Duga Good comment.

@SimonAndréForsberg maybe we could canonicalize this whole answering stuff...

@StackExchange @SimonAndréForsberg I suppose we're looking for a "this is the minimum requirement to be considered an answer" type answer?

@RubberDuck The question is not just about answers, and not only about questions. It's about how we use the term "Code Review" around here. What is a Code Review? What is not a Code Review? If you want to use the terms 'questions' and 'answers' in an answer to the meta, you may of course do so.

qedHere is an example from Hadley's advanced R book: select <- function(df, vars) { vars <- substitute(vars) var_pos <- setNames(as.list(seq_along(df)), names(df)) pos <- eval(vars, var_pos) df[, pos, drop = FALSE] } select(mtcars, mpg:disp) I am trying to merge this function into...

Unless you write code in an obscure tag, then you should post on SO lest you never get answers

@Pimgd Although that's true, I think it's best only mentioned in the same answer as a code review so it can be explained why the OP doesn't need a CR.
But that might get complicated.
@Pimgd No, you start posting on CR and create a new fan club for that tag.
Don't post CR posts on SO and vice-versa!

how do I fanclub

Do you think they'll like it if I start asking there how I can start a userbase for a tag on another SE site?
(srs question)

There are many, many languages being reviewed on CR. I only know a couple which either aren't present or don't have answers yet.

It sounds weird.
And meta-ish.
But different

@Pimgd Why not?
It's meta for CR, but not for CB

@Pimgd I think that could be a good question there. Tags are sort of like 'sub-communities'

For CB, it appears on-topic
But you may want to look through their on-topic centre just in case, ofc

okay lemme go type a question over there
I want to have some place to put AS3 code and get some sort of answer

12:39 PM
@Pimgd Make sure to post it here as well :-)

that's crossposting

I think @Mast means in chat

@SimonAndréForsberg That.
@Pimgd There are at least 30 questions with AS3 on CR, only 2 unanswered.
Try with only 3 posts (2 unanswered)
It's one of the most obscure tags around.

there's this...

Q: Starting a community from scratch - how to create initial userbase?

SF.I've seen this too many times. A new forum on some subject, with thirty or more sub-fora, great most of them with 0 posts, some with 2-3, one "welcome topic" running greetings from some 40 users the site didn't retain, as they left simply because too little was going on. Some questions answered b...

hmmh

There are still languages with no questions whatsoever.

12:41 PM
is it related...?

@Pimgd Related, but doesn't seem duplicate.

that one is more about "how do I get my site have a community"

Not all answers are applicable either.
