This is friggin awesome!
For example, type Alt+Enter in NetBeans on this line: students.stream().sorted().collect(Collectors.groupingBy(name -> name.charAt(0))) and the IDE will assign the result to a local variable of the appropriate type (in this case, Map<Character, String>).
I didn't know you could just write something without assigning then alt+enter and then type the variable name

@syb0rg There is some pretty darn ugly code there in the article, even though it uses Java 8
            for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
                SelectAction<Object> sa
                        = select(receive(ch1),
                                receive(ch2));
                switch (sa.index()) {
                    case 0:
                        System.out.println(sa.message() != null ? "Got a number: " + (int) sa.message() : "ch1 closed");
                        break;
                    case 1:
                        System.out.println(sa.message() != null ? "Got a string: " + (String) sa.message() : "ch2 closed");
Can't get much more ugly imo
The article starts out good, then it's just using Go and Erlang inside Java... which doesn't mix

Monking! (or somethin')

:o hey @SimonAndréForsberg
Where have you been hanging out?

I've been visiting a friend in Gothenburg
nice to see that you missed me already :P

I told you @Mat'sMug! He was on vacation.

Q: Factories and constructors in Angular?

MartinI've got some constructors and a factory class that I would like to use in an Angular project. I would like to know how I can convert these to usable Angular services for my project. Process Constructor /** * A constructor for Process objects * * @param {Object} options An object with an int...

I don't know if I would call it vacation, but yes, I was away :P

I am still left off wondering whenever I will finish my TCG
And yea, that's what it boiled down to, you being away by non-required reasons :p

I see that @Mat'sMug has beaten me rep-wise, and is now on 2nd row. Nice. Congratulations, Mug. Perhaps finally we can actually have a race! (to 20K)

I managed to merge some stuff back to git ysterday, still need to write a load of unit tests though
There's still two questions waiting for an answer, nobody else took them yet :(

I might be able to take a look at them tomorrow. (Gotta catch up to the Mug now!)

Pfft, you can also do that with my questions

Yes, exactly what I meant. Tonight, I don't think I'll be answering anything

Ah... I thought the now! you said there was meant to be like... right now

Well hi there, @CaptainObvious

@CaptainObvious Strange... replacing a standard utility with his/her own invented implementation and then complaining that the performance is too low.
Well, I'll be calling it a day, ttytomorrow

@CaptainObvious this question strikes me as slightly off topic, considering the “4. Do I want the code to be good code, (i.e. not code-golfing, obfuscation, or similar)” in the on-topic question checklist.

Must - review - Java - question...
I don't think it's off-topic, @amon. It's simply a weird way of reinventing-the-wheel

Didn't even have time to read from Effective Java today :(
It's not that I was extremely busy, I just didn't find time for it.

@SimonAndréForsberg good point. Just like more linked li–noooooo!

@amon Did you know that you could also treat a string as a linked list of characters?

@skiwi No, but there is this:
In computer programming a rope, or cord, is a data structure composed of smaller strings that is used for efficiently storing and manipulating a very long string. For example, a text editing program may use a rope to represent the text being edited, so that operations such as insertion, deletion, and random access can be done efficiently. Description A rope is a binary tree having leaf nodes that contain a short string. Each node has a "weight" equal to the length of its string plus the sum of all the weights in its left subtree. Thus a node with two children divides the whole string ...

I'll look into that tomorrow ;)

@rolfl how old can a question be before you can't migrate it?

This site didn't exist 4 years ago. That question was migrated from SO over a year after it was first asked.

Q: Concurrent non-blocking refresh

Op De CirkelIn my application there is a "config" object that is accessbile by multiple threads concurrently. It is a single object (singleton) injected by the DI in the "dependents". @Malachi it is customary to migrate only if a question is fairly young (hours, days, weeks, at most a few months), and hasn't seen much interaction yet. The aim of a migration is not to find the most on-topic site, but to move an off-topic question to a better place than just closing it.

8:58 PM
I think that after so long you can't migrate it though. I have had flags declined because of that

Pff editing is cheating ^^
I guess this makes @Jamal the biggest cheater of them all.

Did you know that there is a tool that allows to draw yUML-like sequence digrams? :)

I'm back from my final. T_T

Was it that bad? :o
Today, my brother's girlfriend borrowed my nail polish. That was a strange day.

It kinda sucked. Of course, the cheat sheet didn't help. But at least I just skipped one question (it was barely even covered).

Hi @Jamal. Good night @Jamal (and others). TTGTB

9:53 PM
@Morwenn I knew you were strange....

@SimonAndréForsberg Good night. I'm also going soon.

later guys

@Malachi It's transparent nail polish. Sometimes, my nails break, so I have what's needed to protect them :p

@SimonAndréForsberg Hi!

:15284783 Ok, "anil" definitely sounds kind of creepy.

9:54 PM
@Morwenn ahh I see, not so bad, still strange that she borrowed it though....
TTGH

She broke a nail.

A: Trim string of words based on character count

janosYes, it's extremely inefficient, because in every iteration you count the number of words twice: once in count_words, and then wp_trim_words internally has to count the words again. Another problem is that the method won't work for content that is many words larger than the target limit length. ...

Looks like I actually asked a good SO question.

@nhgrif Indeed. It's an interesting, clever question about a popular programming language's behavior instead of a request for debugging. The problem is easy to understand. There's a short and simple answer. It not only fits perfectly into what SO is supposed to be, but easy understanding also translates into easy upvotes. I've never written Obj-C, but I went away from that question with a “Today I Learned”.

11:29 PM
Sometimes I wonder how some questions get any upvotes at all.

@nhgrif You're welcome. =)

@SimonAndréForsberg saw that ;) now you're ahead of me again! Sleep, my friend, sleep! ;)
