A: Where do I ask about programming conventions?

Simon André ForsbergVogel612 mentioned that it is not a good fit for Code Review, and he is right. However, here is how it could become a good fit for Code Review: You code your program the way you feel is good You make the program work (it does what it is supposed to do) You ask a question on Code Review, adding...

10:01 PM
I accepted an answer today too I think

Yay, Waffles!
Welcome to Quack 10K, @RubberDuck!

Congrats @RubberDuck!!

Congrats @RubberDuck !!!

Congrats @RubberDuck
thanks for the Accept too!

10:02 PM
@Mat'sMug I like the way you encourage me :)

For some reason though, I am tempted at downvoting two of your posts...

Thanks guys.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love this site.

I'm heading home. See y'all later.

Bye ducky!

10:02 PM
@Mat'sMug It's 404 tabs by now

TTQW too

been a while since I rep-capped last

404 - tab close button not found

Then use it more, @Gemtastic!!

I have no more Stars

10:04 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg Well, I haven't really written anything worth posting since the BJ game.

One question and two votes spent? You've barely even discovered the site!

Unless you wanna look at my unfinished GUI application for a dog-daycare

Then make something! Or review something!

Keep Posting @Gemtastic, post a new question everyday!

if it works, i.e. have some functionality already which works and no immediate important features that you need to add first, I see no harm in asking for a review on it

10:06 PM
Which mostly is unfinished because before this week I didn't even know how to begin simulate a connection to a DB or a webserver, which the app will be dependent on, since you're supposed to be able to log in and check what your dog is doing, and buy extra services like grooming or a bath...

I got the Business in the front party in the back on a question on ELU and then it was Migrated to ELL and I got it again there....lol

Actually, after this course, I should be able to do that though. Yaay
@Malachi But my issue is; I don't have any on topic questions :/

@Gemtastic make a Simon Says!!

@Gemtastic keep coding, ask questions on SO, get your code working then post it here.
5

and now I'm out of stars! :(
@Gemtastic is that the one you wanted to hook up to Paypal or something?

10:08 PM
Reload/Saturday in 1 hour and 52 minutes

@Mat'sMug The issue right now is that I'm knees deep into back-end webdevelopment where I'm gonna make a functioning web-shop that's gonna go live.

Reload/@Duga in 1 hour and 52 minutes

@SimonAndréForsberg No, I haven't even thought about a payment plan through the app; with than one I figured the company would just bill the customer :P

Knees deep? Could be worse :)

Do note though, the dog-daycare I made the GUI for doesn't exist.
The store for the webshop is very real though

10:10 PM
static int sqr(int val)
{
int val_sqr = 0;

for (int i = 0; i < val; i++)
val_sqr += val;

return val_sqr;
}

static int sqr1(int val)
{
int val_sqr = 0;

for (int i = 0, j = 1; i < val; i++, j += 2)
val_sqr += j;

return val_sqr;
}
Is this worth a review?

It's my mom's shop, but I still think it will be fun to make something proper, safe and nice-looking that will go live.

@Mat'sMug but... you have all day to do it anyway, don't you?

I've earned 5 hats in less than an hour... am I a mad hatter yet?

It is two methods to calculate the square of a number.

@RubberDuck Congrats @RubberDuck !

10:12 PM
Congrats, @RubberDuck.

@Gemtastic sounds like you might have "tagit dig vatten över huvudet" ("taken water over your head" for non-Swedish speakers - is that an English saying?)

@SimonAndréForsberg I may or may not have. The course example for the examination project is a webshop
Only you don't have to make a super advanced one.

@Gemtastic well, if it's something that you're studying as well, then hopefully not.

But it should still be functional
I'm not getting paid either way, and I told my mom I might not be able to make one that can be launched, but with payson I don't see why not.
I'm not supposed to code the payment-part.

Oh, I haven't gotten that chat starring hat yet...
There!
That should be good enough

10:18 PM
I star and I star and I star, but no hat :(

well you need to get starred ;)
2

@syb0rg You need to start 8 users.

I thought you had to star O.o

Ohhhh, not just 8 messages...

Yeah.

10:19 PM
STAR... ALL THE USERS

Well, it's official. I don't have the slightest clue about what you have to do to get the hats.

No, I read that

Click the hat for more details.

Apparently I just can't brain what the texts actually mean

10:19 PM
Click the details for more hats.

@Gemtastic Feel welcome to post questions about the hats here, most of us seem to understand them pretty well

I used all my stars... AND NO HAT NOOOOOOO

Why does VS take sooo long to profile some code?

Microsoft made it?

@Phrancis How do I get the android hat? I used the app and upvoted a few things, but nothing

10:22 PM
It seemed to work fine for me, using the iOS app. Maybe post a comment
Hats aren't instant most of the time, either

I first used it last night

Ah, that is odd

OK, here VS goes.

Could it be a bugg for the buggdroid because my phone is old? It uses Gingerbread

Possible
You can ask on MSE perhaps?

10:24 PM
morning all

Morning.

A: Didn't get "On The Road" Hat or "Bugdroid" Hat

animusonThat is not the official Stack Exchange app and does not count towards the hats. Here is the official Stack Exchange app on Google Play.

Did you get your WPF thing solved?

@Gemtastic ^^

@rolfl You could update this answer with your C permutation algorithm you demonstrated before

10:25 PM
@Phrancis Ah, I might be using the wrong app

@syb0rg Hmmm....

@hosch250 haven't had a chance to dig into it. Friday night. sat morning ... you know

OK.
Still Friday here.

i'll ask more question... :D
We are in a different time line ;P

I know - 4:30PM here.

10:27 PM
T_T

45 days without an answer on MSE... Should I post a bounty?

GOOGLE PLAY Y U NO SHOW ME THE RIGHT APP!?
Stack remote, stack overload, stackmob...
But no stack exchange

@Gemtastic It's probably because SE app is still in beta
(it works great, BTW)

@Phrancis I have a question that I am dying to put a bounty on it. One the other hand don't want to sacrifice that little rep that I have :P

How do I get the link from the computer to the phone?

10:29 PM
@Mehrad It's for the common good of CR though ;p

Q: Code block Prettify for Code Review after graduation

PhrancisSome Code Review regulars have been discussing on Code Review Meta and in chat the possibility of redesigning the look of code blocks as part of eventual "graduated" site design. Would you please indicate if this can be done, and if that is the case, what steps we could take to start coming up ...

@Gemtastic android?

@Mehrad yessir

@Gemtastic You could just email/SMS the link to your device

email it to yourself :P
Bullet is good as well if you're on Ando @Gemtastic SIR

@Mehrad bullet?

10:32 PM
I could get a gold badge, if ...80 more people favorited my question :/

@Phrancis, poor gets poor(er) and rich get's more reps... CR is capitalism...

@Mat'sMug How do I favorite it?

the star, click the star!!

Q: How can I see my active flags?

MalachiIf I am new to a site and I raise a flag I can't tell how many I have raised or if I have an active flag still pending. without any helpful flags on a site there is no link to that page to inform me of the statistics of my flagging habits. How do I find this information? Can there be a lin...

10:33 PM
@Mat'sMug Where's the star supposed to be?

Q: Down with FizzBuzz... LOL

Mat's MugThis post is the result of reading through and following the LOLCODE Specification 1.2, and writing and executing my code on compileonline.com. My "hello world" was going to be a fizzbuzz. I like it because it nicely illustrates the basics of a language - variables, operators, looping, condition...

Right here.... just to the right of this text ------>

just below the downvote button on the questino ;)

:D under the arrows @Gemtastic

2 mins ago, by Mat's Mug
I could get a gold badge, if ...80 more people favorited my question :/

10:35 PM
@Mat'sMug there are two questions. Which one should I str?

@rolfl I guess they are talking about favourating a question

Bah you get fizzbuzz

^^
yay! 79 to go!
...and it's pretty much my only shot at a gold badge during WB... pretty slim..

I thought you meant that you created the tag lolcode and wanted that starred so it'd be accepted. I dunno why I'm so bad at figuring things out on this site >_>;

10:36 PM
eh, give yourself a break, your still brand-new :)

"Your device isn't compatible with this item".
Well, no buggdroid for me

I actually need fewer upvotes than stars on that question to get a goldie

@Gemtastic I have a Windows Phone. Good luck getting a hat there.

@Mat'sMug Maybe Tweet it?

Don't feel too bad about it.

In hind sight I shouldn't even have bought that phone. I thought I'd get the joy of having a smart phone, but it's not compatible with anything. >:C

I use mine for testing apps.

Samsung FTW

Mine is a Samsung Galaxy Y

Nokia.
520.
No contract.

10:39 PM

already +1'd

I could really use that silver badge hat... hint hint

I'm gonna buy a new phone in march, which is when we'll have the android course
I sure hope my better half has a job by then because I'll have to buy something at least somewhat new...

@Gemtastic HTC One M7... Still good and starting to ge cheaper

10:41 PM
@Mehrad I'm not sure I want something "still good"

I should've said still Great

More like the cheaper model that's at least from within the year
Would be nice to for once in my life have something up to date

and bumped

How do you get the I voted hat?

spend all your votes (that's 40)

10:43 PM
hahaha... I was wondering where you went @Phrancis

@Mehrad Joker ;p

---2---1 stars away from a silver badge [favorite-question] :)

Yaay I got the sumo hat!

I'm on it @Mat'sMug

"give stars to 8 users in chat"
^ That sounds to me like you're supposed to star other people

10:46 PM
^^ that's exactly it

Yep @Gemtastic... Howere on somebody's chat post and make that black star on the side to go Gold

Oh yes, I am a werewolf hunter!

@Mat'sMug you must be Silver now

1 more :)

@syb0rg Oh no... I thought I am the only one :P

10:47 PM
oops
> You earned Selfie on Meta Stack Exchange!

Does anyone here have a Windows Phone that isn't a Nokia 520?

that can be shortened to "does anyone have a Windows Phone?"

@Mat'sMug let me go pimp your star in the c# chat room :)

Well, pretty much.
My app is working on my phone, but not on the simulator, and I don't know which is right.

NO

10:48 PM
@Mat'sMug But earlier you people told me it was that I had to get starred. You're confusing me :(

should we see if I can rep cap on Meta with this one post? or all my posts....lol I would get a cool badge over there.....lol meta.stackexchange.com/q/245811/200242

THERE TOO WAS A HAT ABOUT GIVING STARS.

F*** it. MSE Bounty open!

I'm so confused :'(

@Gemtastic you already have the [hat:sumo-judge]!

10:50 PM
@Mat'sMug I didn't earlier when we talked about it

Now in a three way tie for #12 in hats

33 mins ago, by Vogel612
well you need to get starred ;)
upon me saying:

I star and I star and I star, but no hat :(

Got a selfie (question posted during WB):

A: Parallelization of number factors using OpenMP

JamalI see that OpenMP's rules will make things a little difficult here. For instance, I won't be able to concisely set i to either 2 or 3, depending on integer's parity. This is because OpenMP requires the loop counter to be set within the loop, though it can still be declared beforehand. I would ...

What is the Fascinating, Ma'am hat for?

@hosch250 upvoting I guess

10:56 PM
Hah, didn't realize the Red Shirt SEDE question went hot

@hosch250 Upvoting a question with a score of at 25 and of at least 10K views.

^^ The LOLCODE question I feel sure

OK, got it.
Can two more people vote on this: codereview.stackexchange.com/questions/72255/…

> If you knew that you were living in, say, 587 BC, you'd know that the Messiah would be arriving in, oh, 587 years. Kind of removes the need for a prophetic word of God, don't you think?

I want to get the Enlightened badge so I can get the hat for a silver badge.

10:59 PM
ho-ho-ho

Woah, 4 more votes.

jingle jingle

Thanks.

Here comes the weekend

Q: Board Evaluator for Bejeweled Clone

bazolaI've been prototyping a Match 3 game (Bejeweled clone) because I have an interesting concept for one, and because it is good practice. One key aspect of my version is that the matches must contain one of the swapped orbs. Therefore matches elsewhere on the board do not get destroyed (and for no...

Now how long does it take for a badge to come in?

@hosch250 what badge?

Bejeweled clone? Hell yes!

Enlightened.

no combos...

11:02 PM
Oh, here it is.

@hosch250 That one takes a while.

Now the hat needs to come in.
@Jamal Just got it.

and Rep Capped

@Jamal I had a feeling you would be interested in it. Now the question is: How much objective-c do you know? :)

11:04 PM
BBL

later @Phrancis

woah, thanks @Santa!

I hope to get my old Bejeweled finished up one day. I'm having to "renovate" it since it first used pointers.

@Mat'sMug can I unstar it now? :)
@Jamal when discussing with @bazola, I was thinking about a different approach, which I am considering trying out. Just gotta decide on a language...

I reached my daily voting limit. Will I get a hat now? :D

11:07 PM
My main obstacle is a working match-finding algorithm. I'm not worried about speed for now, but something that doesn't break with regards to bounds.
@Gemtastic Did you vote on at least 10 questions?

@Jamal Almost all of them were questions

@Jamal match-finding algorithm sounds exactly like what @bazola has been working on

The one I've been using is still close enough to this.

Seems like it would be fun to make a RegEx for the question text, and then it suggest tags based on what you've typed

Right, what sort of antics have I been missing here... do I need to go through a 500 message chat log?

11:11 PM
I posted a selfie.
And Ducky reached 10K.

I did too (on SO), but noone upvoted it :/

Gemtastic ... that's an accomplishment, especially on SO
It takes a lot of determination and a thick skin to do that
(says someone at 10.5K on SO).

Posting a reply to your own question or manage to not get upvoted?

@Gemtastic Oh, let me check that out. I was talking about getting 10K On SO

It's an issue I had a few weeks ago working with JavaFX. I was going nuts trying to figure why my code wouldn't run even though it was good code
I wish there had been that answer for me back then.
Yaay

11:17 PM
@Gemtastic That's the real reason for SO, to provide a repository (hopefully easily searchable) that people can find in their googling.

@rolfl That's why I posted the question. :)

And, why I changed the tags, and am prompting you for more detail on the circumstances.
This is almost certainly a netbeans bug.... let me google it....

Someone else had that very same bug in eclipse

OK, it's an algorithm change required for identifying the incremental dependencies.
Regardless, both the Q and the A are worth their +1.

Thank you.

11:25 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg @Jamal i would think that a real dead simple approach (if you have no special rules) would be to iterate through all the rows looking for sets of 3, and then break the board up into columns also and iterate through those for sets of 3. maybe have a temporary array where you put pieces of a certain color; when the color of the next one is different, then if the size is greater than X then mark the pieces for destruction and empty the array. the trick part would be matches that are
not in just one row and column

Hopefully someone with the same issue as mine won't have to waste as many hours trying to figure it out.

Dear Santa, +185 today would be really really nice to get another +15
:)
@SimonAndréForsberg one of the stars is mine, I think it's not counting :(

Why can't I get Chameleon here?
I've edited my profile a ton.

I wonder if I should make my little applet into an android app later.. As my JavaFX examination project I made a very simple application that calculates how far you will go before you come to a full stop when you slam the breaks on an icy road. You give it your speed in km/h and it returns your distance. Maybe I should keep develop it with more calculations on winter safety when driving?
Not that I think people will download it, it'd just be for fun...

@Mat'sMug so you still don't have the badge?

11:34 PM
@hosch250 Try changing your picture. That's what did it for me

Changing my profile description did it on SO.

Hey guys.

hello

How's it going?

Great actually.
Hard to not be in a good mood in this chat

11:37 PM
Changed my name and picture now.

Nope
TTQW

@Gemtastic true.

@rolfl Can you update my chat profile?
Still not here.

Oh thanks santa!!

15 more rep until 750...
YAY! I'm 750!

11:42 PM
GOT IT!
18 Chameleons!!!

@hosch250 Congrats :)

There.
Can you see it?
One more post to get my image big.

@hosch250 see what?

The Chameleon.

the hat?

11:44 PM
New avatar?
still rd baron to me.

Changed for me.

the hat?

Yes.
Now I need to post a nice, easy, C# question, answer, and get 4 other answers within 30 minutes.
Let's see.

Oh, and by the way, @hosch250 you are right on top of me in the week leaderboards.

Nice.
I'm on top of @Phrancis.

11:47 PM
Rawr.

I don't even see him.

Go to the Code Review leaderboard.

i did

oh, for hats...

11:48 PM
Oh, you meant rep?

Phrancis = #13
Manny (me) = #17
@hosch250 = more that #50
that is for hats

Right now, I'm #13 as Captain Obvious (trying to see if I need to change my name).
I changed back to Hosch250 again, but it hasn't updated.

oh...
yep, i see you

Trying to get my app published, but Silverlight on the webpage isn't working.

you have more hats than me, and I have more rep than you...

11:54 PM
Well, working on increasing both.
Why oh why can't they just use JS?

@hosch250 for what?

For the Replace button where I need to upload the new packages.
I just got it.

Ummm... Why is LOLCODE back on the front page??

Because someone was trying to get 80 stars on it.

Yay my second silver badge

11:59 PM
For a gold badge.

@Duga is it time!?
