6:02 PM
@0celouvsky I am still in the first chapter. CHAPTER 1. Measure and Integration
I did not start e book directly
I decided to review a few things first
I officially start reading it today.

I hope to get to monotone class theorem soon

@ACuriousMind Oh no
It's been too long since I used NMM
They updated and I have to reinstall everything

I went over intro to anal by maxwell rosenlicht

So I don't think I can experiment because it will definitely break everything
Can you please stop calling analysis anal?

6:06 PM
I had read the text on and off , since I own the book
ok I will start calling it analysis

@0celouvsky Well, then you can at least pick only the mods you actually want

@ACuriousMind I think I have to fix my whole game file
It's the texture and mesh mods that are the problem
And to get those to work I had to go around the installer and mess with the files
And even then it only half worked
I don't know how these people with 200 mods do it

Bad Idea #64,512: Flipping the signs on anything involving energy, so electrons are positive, protons are negative, etc.

congrats., you made the universe unstable

6:15 PM
Ok that's one very inefficient and single purpose computer

-1
Q: Does time travelled object mislead Radiocarbon Dating method to find age of that object?

SamSolDoes any time travelled object mislead radiocarbon dating method to determine how much old that object? Example: Adidas shoes found on 1500 years old mummy's legs. So what will be the age of that shoes? It will be future date or past date as per radiocarbon dating method. https://www.google.co....

well, not really, you probably mess up nothing except the weak and strong interaction (since they are the ones that exhibit CP violation)

they should have defined $F_{\mu\nu}={\color{red}{\frac12}}(\partial_\mu A_\nu-\partial_\nu A_\mu)$

plz
Just define $F = dA$

@Slereah lololol

6:17 PM
yeah, but with a $\frac12$

@ACuriousMind fuck my computer froze
I can't close skyrim
How do I bring task manager to the front?

Actually, that silly question does point out something: Radiocarbon dating will fail for a time-displaced object (unless the carbon isotope ratio get adjusted accordingly as the future object is travelled back)
The above comment of mine also point out something in extension:

@0celouvsky alt+tab?

I try to bring it up but skyrim is stuck there windowed

ctrl+alt+supr

6:20 PM
And task manager pops up behind it so I can't click on it
@ACuriousMind nope

When we date something, we assume the time evolution governing a physical law is linear and always monotonically increasing
Now imagine what will happen if time turns out to be messier than a timey wimpy ball

Now my mouse has disappeared
I knew this reinstall was a bad idea
But it confirms my suspicions that it's the texture mods
Had to restart

6:32 PM
@ACuriousMind I like how some of these mods are like 'armor and weapons fixes remade reproccer'
like what

Isn't reproccer some utility that makes stuff compatible with SkyRe? So those would be mods that have been "remade" to work with reproccer, I guess

@ACuriousMind I think they mean the patch is remade
Like the original patch was bad
But I plan to uninstall SkyRe
I want an uninstall everything button
Then I should just need to get the script extender (after I verify the installation from Steam) and I should be good to go
disabling everything
there's no turning back
@ACuriousMind what is this skyrim special edition, anyhow?

I don't remember the differences, but I think they are mostly cosmetic

@ACuriousMind Will "verify game files" clean all of the crap out that I added manually?
Also, I'm having deja vu right now

I'm not sure, but I think so

6:40 PM
Ok, Skyrim is reinstalling
@ACuriousMind What does "$\mathrm{Spin}^c(V)$ is the subgroup of the multiplicative group of units of $\mathrm C\ell^\Bbb C(V)$ generated by $\mathrm{Spin}(V)$ and the unit circle in $\Bbb C$" mean?
Just multiplying $\mathrm{Spin}(V)$ by phases?

Yes, I think so

Now Skyrim won't even open
Uh-oh
fug
Lol, I completely broke it
@ACuriousMind german tech support?

Uh, I have no idea what went wrong there. Did you actually reinstall or just verify the installation?

I verified the installation
You think that broke it?
Should I completely wipe it?
I have nothing to lose I guess
I wasn't attached to that char
Maybe it's trying to load heavily modded saves and crashes
But I can't even bring up the start menu now. It immediately crashed when I start it from steam

Yeah, I think if it doesn't start after verification the best bet is to just reinstall completely instead of trying to pinpoint what the problem is

6:51 PM
Will that delete my saves?
meh
yolo
I already broke it

Depends on the game, many leave your saves instact
I don't know what Skyrim does

ok, deleted it
this is gonna take a while to reinstall...
@ACuriousMind The $\times_G$ notation means modulo a $G$ action on both factors, right?

Get the mod that gives you unlimited carry capacity btw
That is the most important mod

37 minutes!
Unacceptable

Unless you want the game to turn into an inventory sorting game

6:55 PM
@Slereah My follower mod gives me multiple followers with larger carrying capacities
@Slereah That was the worst part of FO3
My capacity was so low and I could only carry like 3 extra guns

The problem with those games is
Either give me limited carry capacity, or don't require me to carry so much shit
If there's both there is a problem

"$C\ell^\Bbb C(\Bbb R)=\Bbb C\oplus \Bbb C$, and $Spin^c(\Bbb R)=S^1$ sits diagonally in this space"

Nobody wants to spend game time sorting through the garbage you're carrying to see what you can part with

wot
@Slereah I used to have a good inventory manager
sorted by value/weight ratio
@ACuriousMind do you know what that above comment means?

@0celouvsky Perhaps? I'm not sure

vzn
6:59 PM
@Secret nice find thx for sharing! recently surveyed this, did you see it? wondering what your own opinion is :) vzn1.wordpress.com/2017/03/31/…

@ACuriousMind not that
the "sits diagonally" part

@0celouvsky I think it means that the embedding is $S^1\to\mathbb{C}\oplus\mathbb{C},\phi\mapsto(\mathrm{e}^{\mathrm{i}\phi}, \mathrm{e}^{\mathrm{i}\phi})$

ahhh

True, computing one's existence is important (assume the whole thing holds given how heavily is blackhole information theory is being revised over the years), but we want computers to do more than that

yes, that makes sense
@Slereah How far have you made it into chapter 7 of HE?

7:02 PM
Which one is 7

cauchy problem

> some old but evocative buzz/ magic words thrown around about internet expansion into multiple industries come to mind: consolodation/ convergence…

not very

Speaking about the phenomenon of convergence, I actually has a highly egocentric conspiracy theory take on that

My soul leaves my body when I read about Sobolev spaces

7:04 PM
You astrally project into Sobolev space?

I do

is that a new kind of sobolev embedding theorem

I become the $W^\infty$

$W^\infty$ is a meme space

Why are they even called $W$

7:04 PM
it's just the locally Lipschitz functions
@Slereah weak derivative

but because my theory is so egocentric hence nonsense, I am not going to say anything more about it

Does the set of 1 dimensional manifolds even have a cardinality

it's not a set
at least, probably not a set

If you admit non-Hausdorff manifolds, there are absolutely no upper bounds on the number you can have

oh
wait, what?
I don't think the class of all 1-manifolds is a set

7:06 PM
Take the line with $n$ origins
$n$ can be an arbitrarily high cardinality
you could have an uncountable number of origins, if you wanted

how can one pack uncountably many origins into a line?
and still sensibly talk about neighbourhoods and open sets?

They're all still locally euclidian

take an uncountable number of lines, glue them together except at the origin

Just not second countable
Not even third countable

"the spinor space is the exterior algebra of $W$"
what does this have to do with electrons

7:09 PM
not second countable... hmm, I have been looking for spaces that are not first second and third countable recently

electrons are tiny algebras

so... how does one talk abotu limit points given that the convenience of topological basis cannot be used?

it's not hard
Just take $\Bbb R$ with the fine topology

what the hell is third countable

A word I made up
For humorous purpose
I also talk about third quantization, sometimes
Also are there different "long lines"???

7:11 PM
This fine topology?
In mathematics, in the field of potential theory, the fine topology is a natural topology for setting the study of subharmonic functions. In the earliest studies of subharmonic functions, namely those for which Δ u ≥ 0 , {\displaystyle \Delta u\geq 0,} where Δ {\displaystyle \Delta } is the Laplacian, only smooth functions were considered. In that case it was natural to consider only the Euclidean topology, but with the advent of upper semi-continuous subharmonic functions introduced...
Otherwise there are many levels of fineness of topologies you can choose for reals

doubtful

You're supposed to take "an uncountable ordinal" to make the long line, but they are not all of the same magnitude
Oh wait, the long line is specifically the first uncountable ordinal
are there... VERY LONG LINES?

the longest line

A very long line wouldn't be homeomorphic to the long line, since they'd have different cardinalities

How does one find limit points in spaces that are not second countable, as you cannot use the notion of convergent series?

7:14 PM
you mean not first countable
you can use nets
or just argue directly given a knowledge of the basis

Ok

first countable says that you can use sequences because the basis is countable
in general you won't have a countable basis, but you still can use the basis

Ok I see
I will see if I can train my skills on computing intersections of neightbourhoods more
cause I am quite bad at it (as I usually have no idea whether I have already take all the intersections needed to locate a limit point in a topology)

user228700
@JohnR: Online at this time?!

@Kaumudi.H I'm just back from the monthly Chester science fiction society meeting :-)
Re your laptop ...

user228700
7:21 PM
Ah, OK :-) Tired, then, I suppose...

Turn the laptop on, then when the dell logo appears press F12, and you should get a boot menu.
One of the items on the menu is Diagnostics

user228700
Wut? OK...

@JohnRennie How long are you going to be around?

Arrow down to that and press Return, and it will run a set of hardware tests to check for any faults on the laptop.

Q: Long line with large uncountable ordinals

SlereahThe long line, and long ray, is defined with respect to $\omega_1$, the first uncountable ordinal. Is it possible to construct a long line with any of the larger uncountable ordinals, a very long line, if you will? Would it still be a manifold, if so? From what I've seen, it is generally said t...

user228700
7:22 PM
OK...

Please help make the very long line real

@BernardoMeurer you really don't want to ask any advice from me right now, trust me on this. I've been in a six hour scifi reading group meeting in the pub :-)

user228700
SIX HOUR WTF!!!

user228700
Oh my God.

These things have to be done :-)

7:25 PM
@JohnRennie did you see my picture?

user228700
Now I know the answer to the question WHICH FRIGGIN' BOOK CLUB CONDUCTS 6-HOUR MEETINGS?!?!

"book club meeting" does sound better than "drinking session" :P

@ACuriousMind A rose by any other name ... :-)
@0celouvsky Link?

@0celouvsky :-)

7:28 PM
Who even sells a book for $1872
Who buys that?

I suppose there may be an eccentric millionaire somewhere desparate to read that book.

pricing algorithms

@JohnRennie I'm going to purchase the one for $100 which is brand new condition!
At least I plan to, we'll see
But my thesis will involve spinorial PDE in some form or another, so I'll likely get it

@0celouvsky I've just paid the sterling equivalent of that for a Nexus 9.

...ok?

7:31 PM
No, there is no deep meaning to that statement, it's just a random observation. But, that's about all you can expect from me right now. Sorry.

user228700
@JohnR: Did u see my picture?

@Kaumudi.H It looked like the inside of a train ...

@ACuriousMind Did you say the other day that the vector space of Killing fields is finite dimensional?

user228700
:-P Right.

7:32 PM
@Kaumudi.H A reasonably clean train ...

@0celouvsky I...think I did?

user228700
Clean and all but cramped af. Geez.

How do you know that?

user228700
I'm still in it! 2.5 hours to go :-/

@Kaumudi.H Probably better than sitting on the roof though. Or clinging to the sides ...

7:33 PM
@0celouvsky Because they are infinitesimal isometries (i.e. the Lie algebra of the isometry group), and the isometry group is usually finite-dimensional?

user228700
@JohnRennie x'D Definitely.

Have you got the laptop with you? When you say it heats up, what do you mean? Does the cooling fan run all the time?

@ACuriousMind It's always finite dimensional. But that's for Riemannian ones...I don't know about Lorentzian. I can't imagine it would fail there.

user228700
@JohnRennie It gets extremely hot on the side.

On the left side? If so, that's where the cooling fan vent is, and that does get hot.

user228700
7:36 PM
Extremely though.

user228700
This used to not happen before.

@ACuriousMind $\dim\mathfrak{iso}\le n(n+1)/n$
@Slereah O'Neill page 253

Hmmm. Does the fan run all the time, or is the fan mostly off and it comes on only occasionally?

There's a proof using sobolev spaces as well

user228700
@JohnRennie I couldn't say...

7:38 PM
@ACuriousMind I reinstalled and it's still broken
What do?

@Kaumudi.H The fan usually makes a rather loud noise, you should be able to tell whether it's on or not

@Kaumudi.H The fan makes a distinctive whirring sound when it runs, so it's hard to miss. But if you dont have the laptop with you it's obviously impossible to check.

@0celouvsky That sucks

I have no idea what I did

user228700
Wtf, I've never heard that noise :-/

7:39 PM
are you hard of hearing?

@Kaumudi.H Odd, that suggests the fan isn't working at all. When you're safely back home ping me and we can go through a few checks.

user228700
@0celouvsky Actually, yes :-|

If the laptop is bust throw it away. I have plenty more :-)

@Kaumudi.H Oh, maybe the fan is too quiet to hear for you then...

user228700
@JohnRennie I do have the laptop with me but it's dark and I'm tired and geez, I expect u are too!

vzn
7:41 PM
@Cows more on solitons eh? try this wanna hear what you think :) vzn1.wordpress.com/2016/11/07/…

user228700
I have an hour to kill though so if u feel up to it, I can switch on the laptop.

@Kaumudi.H I'm not exactly tired :-) But it is only 20:41 here not, erm, 01:11?
@Kaumudi.H No, let's wait until after the exam when (a) you're more relaxed and (b) I'm sober

user228700
@JohnRennie Yes. Sigh.

user228700
@JohnRennie Wokay :-P

@ACuriousMind So, suggestions?
I ran BOSS and checked my load order
Nothing is installed

7:44 PM
@Kaumudi.H On the bright side I may be drunk but I'm fairly sure I'm not pregnant.

@0celouvsky I got nothing, I'm afraid

user228700
@JohnRennie x'D That u certainly are not!

user228700
Trouble is that I can't sleep now. I'll reach in 1.5 hours >.<

@JohnRennie Only fairly sure? What kind of book club is this? ;)

user228700
But I'm far too tired to continue studying now.

7:46 PM
@ACuriousMind Have you ever read a Philip K. Dick novel?

vzn
@JohnRennie DICK ROCKS :)

ooh I can just see the flags rolling in :-)

@JohnRennie So your club enacts the stories you read?

user228700
His club's weird, man. Wtf, six hours!!

user228700
That's like school!

7:50 PM
@ACuriousMind The pregnancy comment refers to a conversation earlier today about the different attitudes towards drinking in Indian society.

@ACuriousMind Ok, these people are saying to manually delete the skyrim folder, then reinstall.
Apparently the Steam delete won't get all of the shitty code I had put in myself
Does that sound right?

Philip K. Dick abused amphetamines for most of his life, ended up with amphetamine psychosis and became unable to tell real liffe from fantasy, and this is a theme that runs through many of his books.

@JohnRennie I recall skimming that conversation, but I found it funnier to blame it on your club's habits ;)
And I know about the weird stuff Dick wrote, I might have read a few of them years ago

I have read The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldridge several times and still don't know what it's about. Reading PKD novels tends to leave you with an uncertain grip on reality.

user228700
@JohnRennie Oh God, that sounds terrible. Certainly not more terrible than that disease in which u can't breathe unless u think about it though! Oh God, that one is horror-movie level terrifying. And to imagine that real people suffer from it!

7:53 PM
Anyway, it's vitally important to thoroughly discuss whether the Whills are going to feature in The Last Jedi, whether Luke is the Keeper of the Journal and whether Snopes is actually a Whills Shaman.

@JohnRennie Snopes = Snoke?

so this is what I get when I select "delete" on the folder

I think you mean emperor snooky

Any idea?

7:54 PM
Close the game you berk

@ACuriousMind Don't hassle me, man :-)

The game is not open

I'm tired and emotional!

Close the mod manager

Ok, so despite there is **SO MANY IRRELEVANT ADJECTIVES** in that blog article, I read it all.

Sure, it is kinda exciting to have those many detection of anomalies and suggestions of glitches that is what is proposed by the holographic principle, but I think I will still keep my fingers crossed on whether we actually showed unambigurously that we are living in a hologram.

It is also nice to see that they are moving away from AdS space and use more realistic models closer in resemblance to our universe, that will help work out what other observations that are needed to prove or disprove h

7:55 PM
@0celouvsky @0celouvsky Why use Win10?

I'm not using Windows 10

8.1?

I think so
@ACuriousMind I did
Both of them

If neither the mod manager nor the game are open, go to the task manager and see if the Skyrim process is still running

Snopes - clearly a Freudian slip.

7:56 PM
nothing is running!
Let me restart the computer, then delete

That's because win 8.1 sucks
downgrade to 7

@Mostafa: I think 0celouvsky uses a Macbook.

user228700
OK. I'm going. Bye, folks!

Me too. Off to beddy byes. See you all at 5 a.m. tomorrow.

I...it's gone
I restarted the computer and it's gone

8:00 PM
@0celouvsky In Windows, and I'd guess OSX is similar, it's possible to have a delete op pending but blocked by some other process having the folder open. When you reboot it kills the other process, frees the lock, and the delete operation completes.

I'm using Windows
What does OSX have to do with this?

@0celouvsky Ah, I thought you used a Mac.

@JohnRennie I do
@ACuriousMind So when I deleted the thing, it said 18GB
Skyrim isn't that large

If it's Windows it was almost certainly some other process having a read lock on the folder

there was something in the folder
@JohnRennie ok

8:03 PM
Is there a difference between the tangent bundle and the tensor bundle in 1D

what's the tensor bundle?

Since it is all but one value
Maybe to mail more famous physicists I should ask Krasnikov what the hell that star operator is

@ACuriousMind Do you know about the chirality operator on a Clifford bundle and why it's covariantly constant?

@ACuriousMind are you done with learning?

$$\mathop{\Large{}^0_0 \overset{0}{\underset{0}{0}}{}_{0}^0}_{i\in S}a_i=\int {}^0_0 \overset{0}{\underset{0}{0}}{}_{0}^0 d[\mu]$$

8:13 PM
you changed your about sentence from still learning to Moderator on physics.SE. @ACuriousMind

Let ${}^0_0 \overset{0}{\underset{0}{0}}{}_{0}^0$ be a nonlinear operator. Then the following holds:
$$\int {}^0_0 \overset{0}{\underset{0}{0}}{}_{0}^0 dx=\int {}^1_0 \overset{0}{\underset{0}{0}}{}_{0}^0 dx$$
(Weill figure out a way to formalise that, but first, I need to figure out what do I want ${}^0_0 \overset{0}{\underset{0}{0}}{}_{0}^0$ to do)

@0celouvsky Not really, no
@Mostafa Not really, no
@Mostafa I did.

@ACuriousMind Well, suppose that a section is invariant under the action of the structure group. Is it parallel?

Yes. Didn't we have this discussion when we talking about why $G_2$-holonomy implies a parallel spinor?

No?

8:25 PM
@Kaumudi.H I have recommended reading the intro to Naked Lunch before, more so if you think that's terrifying. Burroughs was blitzed off the cosmos on drugs when he wrote it, and he confessed he never remembered writing Naked Lunch.
The intro is the only coherent part of the book anyway.
On another note I should read Philip K. Dick at some point, or J. G. Ballard, or Vladimir Nabokov or ... or maybe nothing.

@ACuriousMind In this case I guess it's just that since the manifold is orientable and Riemannian, it has SO holonomy, and the chirality is SO invariant?
So parallel transport leaves it invariant, hence cov. const.?
@BalarkaSen the thesis I'm reading is dedicated to "all the women I have loved"
this guy must have been a player

pretty good
I like that.

I don't think you would like the paper itself

What's it on?

spherical symmetry of static perfect fluid solutions in GR

8:37 PM
yeah maybe not what you'd expect to be dedicated to all the lovers of the author

@0celouvsky Link me to this thesis

I need to read the original Newtonian proof
christ
it uses Morse theory too
@ACuriousMind the game...starts now
it can't load saves, but hey!
IT LIVES
