6:00 PM
Though the finished title will probably be something like "Physics and causality" or something equally boring

vzn
lol almost a cynical/ jaded sounding as 0celo7, guess you can fill in admirably while hes gone
do you ever read onion dude? its hilarious am sure youll luv it

By the way I may have to include a proof that @0celo7 gave me in this book
Which means!
I will have to put PRIVATE CORRESPONDANCE in the bibliography
Do I feel like a douche

By the way, the proof is valid for two things
1) A spacetime with CTCs, a time orientation and simply connected can't be foliated by spacelike hypersurfaces
2) A spacetime that is totally vicious, with a time orientation and simply connected can't have a spacelike hypersurface at all
On the other hand, if there are just some CTCs, you can still have maybe spacelike hypersurfaces
cf spacetimes with partial Cauchy surfaces

6:05 PM
Yes I know the onion

vzn
maybe need to collect all these gems somewhere! now that would be some valuable scholarship :)

Well that's what the book is for
WAIT
Wouldn't the UV catastrophe of classical physics be the total opposite
That is, very little radiations at all
If all modes radiate the same amount of energy, by conservation of energy of whatever is inside the box
Shouldn't all modes radiate an infinitesimal amount

Also do we even know how likely radiating away equally in all mode is
If we go by 19th century physics, this will be done by charge dipoles oscillating

@BernardMeurer yeah?

6:15 PM
@3075 You applied to Waterloo correct?

But I don't think that, with a finite amount of energy, a dipole can oscillate arbitrarily fast

@BernardMeurer yeah.

vzn
"ultraviolet catastrophe," what a great/ evocative/ dramatic term =D

Did you get your WaterlooID already? You need it to register at QUEST to check your application status but I never got mine :(

vzn
@3075 cool/ impressive what subj?

6:16 PM
@BernardMeurer 1 sec let me look at the e-mail.

Even though my application shows as submitted on the OUAC

@vzn math/physics

vzn
@3075 they are top in CS too, maybe sneak some in :)

@vzn CEng >>> CS

Hm
What's the formula relating dipole moment and radiation frequency

6:18 PM
@BernardMeurer when you first apply they send you an e-mail that says "thank you for applying to waterloo" with your waterloo id number and user id.
you use that to log into quest.
@vzn I'm bad at cs.
even if my life depended on it.

@3075 Exactly I just never got that, it's so weird! I get all the other emails that one just didn't arrive

@BernardMeurer hmm

vzn
@3075 ah ok but "never say never", CS shows up in a lot of physics these days, many in here can certainly attest to that...

and they have the shittiest support all my emails were met with an automated response
And I don't want to do a 1000 BRL international call
Bloody hell

send an e-mail to: helpdesk@uwaterloo.ca
that's what I did, I also had issues with my userid.
and they replied in 1 day.
@BernardMeurer are you sure you're sending to the right e-mail?

6:22 PM
@3075 Probably not, I'm a confuse individual
I'll send to that one :)

ok, gl.
:)

Damn that caffeine rush
I feel like punching walls
I also feel like computing a classical EM radiation problem

@3075 Thanks for the help man! I'll pay you a coffee if we both go there :D

A rather odd side effect
How would one do that, anyway

@BernardMeurer lol that would be cool if we both went there.

6:26 PM
Random dipoles shooting around in a box?

Waterloo is my top school remaining

I am considering going there if I get in, but idk If i will. my average is 85%.

I quite like the school
Idk if I'll get in either

is it assumed that the binary operation on a group is bijective since it has an inverse?

I hope I do

6:27 PM
so if you get in to waterloo you're definitely going there?

WAIT
Obviously
There should be a classical equivalent
That probably has been calculated

@3075 Unless GA Tech picks me from the waitlist

Gravitational waves from star movements would be classical, no?

then I'll have a decision to make

But those are quadrupolar moments
Also stars aren't really in a box

6:28 PM
@BernardMeurer you should hear back within 30 days from now. (waterloo)

OR MAYBE
I don't know

@3075 Heavy breathing

xD

@3075 Where else are you considering?

Toronto physics/math.
that's all, I only applied to 2.

6:32 PM
Has Toronto results come out?
They're also a stellar uni

they all come out in end/mid may.
I'm hoping I get into one, I took a big risk only applying to so few universities.

Indeed you have, why did you do so?

because other than ubc, waterloo and toronto there aren't any good universities to apply to.

Why didn't you apply to UBC then?
Or US unis
although dat moni

@BernardMeurer Too far.
and I don't like the weather there, it's not cold enough.

6:37 PM
You're not planning to live on campus?
:O NOT COLD ENOUGH

I am.

You're twisted

lol.
I applied to university of iceland as well.

If I go to waterloo I won't ever graduate

though I was a few days late so they denied my application.

6:38 PM
I'll die of frostbite mid semester

@BernardMeurer because you'll freeze to death?
lol.

Lol
I applied to two unis in sweden too
and one in Portugal
the danish ones denied me for being late :p

oh well.

Since you're not applying for my course, good luck!
Otherwise I'd be finding you and eliminating competition

there's plenty of competition out there :)

6:44 PM
@skillpatrol We're going down a dangerous path now :p

yup :P

@BernardMeurer which course are you applying for again?

Computer Engineering
Glorious CEng

did you check if you meet the admission requirements?

Hey!

6:48 PM
I did back in the day

It's the end of the month
And you know what that means?

If I get in Ill catch up to some stuff between now and september

A NEW ISSUE OF PHYSICAL REVIEW D IS OUT

but mostly it's alrighty

6:49 PM
@BernardMeurer did you take calculus?

@3075 Yep

then you're fine.

Just derivates, integrals and limits
not enough integrals though
and I'm rusty too, gotta get back in shape
because our school year ends in december

it's fine, integrals are not even in the curriculum for high school in canada.

Good :D

6:50 PM
but you should know vectors and really basic matrices (linear equations).

I know those

you're fine then.

Phew, good

nvm those are mostly boring papers

@BernardMeurer so what have you been doing all this time?
home all day xD

6:52 PM
I thought you'd throw something like "You don't know QED yet? Oh you're lost!" for a second :p
@3075 I work on projects :D

cool.

I'm developing some algorithms and I manage a makerspace
and I read
but it's a chill life

was your aif really good?

admission information form
for waterloo.

6:53 PM
The one you fill at the OUAC?

no.
damn did you not do it...

:O
I don't think I did

damn
you need your waterloo id to do it.

but I might have

no you didn't.

6:54 PM
Then I didn't

dude

because they never sent it to me </3

that is crucial
you won't get in unless you write one.
it's required.

Crap
Well I'll sort it with them

check your e-mail see if it's in your spam.

6:55 PM
I did earlier today
I just really never received that

@BernardMeurer read this.
An Admission Information Form must be filled out for this program. Instructions will be included with the acknowledgment of your application.

> We recommend that you complete your AIF within 3 weeks of receiving your acknowledgment e-mail from us.

It was due march 3rd for all applicants dude.
recommended to do it before february.

I never got my acknowledgement though

yeah that is an issue.
you should tell them.
since it's their fault.

6:57 PM
Indeed, I'll call them monday if they don't reply to the email I sent earlier
It'd be bullcrap to have my application invalidated over something that was their fault

it could be the case though.
anyway I have to leave now, gl.

It could yes
I'd be pissed off
See you later man, thanks for the help!

cya later

@BernardMeurer no I would recommend you call right now because the may round of admission offers begins today. (we sent our marks yesterday)

Argh bloody hell
Alright, I'm on it then
Thanks again!
two coffees :p

7:03 PM
np lol look here
first one I believe.
519-888-4567, ext. 33106
gl.
bye.

I should go do my exercizing before the caffeine wears off

have fun

@3075 <3

You should be on the phone.

7:12 PM
Stop procrastinating

I'm not hahaha
The lady is checking stuff

John Rennie hosed me again.... :) (jk)

7:33 PM
how so?

Put my question on hold.

http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/252909/how-can-there-be-an-infinite-number-of-universes

@3075 Sorted
They let me file my AIF late with no issues
apologized for their fault

8:10 PM
Omg this form is YUUUUUGE

1 hour later…
9:17 PM
@BernardMeurer awesome.
make sure you do well on it because it's worth like 50% of your application.

proper time travel protocol
Are there any links between the continuous spin representation and the infinite dimensional representation of the Lorentz group

Q: Can AMO physics be applicable for space travel?

Saesun KimI know it sounds very stupid question. I am a Ph.D student currently working on the AMO physics (Quantum Optics). I recently saw articles about the Spacex, and I thought it is really amazing, and thinking about the possible AMO application to space project. AMO is applicable for the accurate s...

Too broad?

vzn
@Slereah @BernardMeurer @JohnRennie re all that CS geek stuff earlier, all plz feel welcome to visit here sometime... "the more the merrier" & if you talk about eg TMs or knuth even the jaded regulars are liable to really light up o_O

Q: Heat is both a tag, and an alias of thermodynamics

Filip HaglundWhy is this? Should we do something about it?

@3075 I've put some work on it
Also, I can't thank you enough for warning me of this
I'd give you a hug

10:33 PM
xD
