@toscho Funny you're having this conversation here. I just had a look at MultilingualPress. I don't want to get on your nerves as I know that you can't say anything publicly here. But can you estimate when you'll be able to do so or when there will be a public announcement?

@kraftner this week

Awesome. Thanks!

i hope the business model is viable enough so we dont get a "we're quitting" announcement
that would suck a bit. although i would hope for open sourcing in that scenario

I doubt that. But lets just stop speculating, getting @toscho in a bad situation to stay quiet and patiently wait some more days.

5 hours later…
4:05 PM
guys, how do you manage when you have to code for long hours? say 10+? coffee doesn't seem to work..

naps inbetween
standing desks for standing up temporarily
naps probably smth like 2x 30min spread out

yes, I have standing configuration with sitting. But I get exhausted after 6-8 hrs

that's normal
have got to take enough rest breaks inbetween

nap as just lying around or sleep?

sleep
disconnect brain as much as you can
eyelid covers, ear plugs if you need them, depending on environment
complete silence and quiet
hell, nap longer if you have to, but with 1hr the coming out is going to be more difficult
at the same time, it will give you a stronger energy boost for the remaining time
once you're out of sleep mode

4:10 PM
It takes more then 30min for me to get into sleep. but good tips.. will try form tomorrow

yep, which is why you might need set aside 1hr total

4:45 PM
@toscho how's the schedule holding up for writing something today? looking for some insight on what implementation do i present tomorrow morning

@lkraav I need at least two hours more. Took a nap and woke up just now. Also, lots of phone calls today …

that's fine
i'll be up up to 5 hours more
but looks like i will have to get up like 6am and start prototype implementing whatever you're writing up
thanks for doing it though, youre helping out a lot

I don't see a good solution for a simple UI though.

i may be able to explain that away
and simple is a relative term sort of

hehe

4:48 PM
doesnt have to be braindead simple. i set limits to customers too
at the end of the day, as long as the correct stuff is display on the sales page, people will survive smaller issues

3 hours later…
7:29 PM
getting dangerously late :/

7:52 PM
@lkraav sorry, I have a little fever, thinking very slowly.

8:14 PM
:( mkay. skip code examples if you have to, i just need to know something pseudocode level or theoretical approach to what needs to be done for custom field translation, for tomorrow
live to fight another day from there

I am writing the explanation for that right now. :)

yay
heart racing

I told you I wouldn't let you down. :)

u the man
this is a cool approach

add_action( 'mlp_and_wp_loaded', array( new Mlp_Support_Post_Meta_Sync(), 'setup' ) );
creating a new class instance in the callback definition

This is actually very procedural code. But I didn't want to introduce more complexity, so that short example should do it.

8:23 PM
thank you sir. going exploring

I will try to stay up for one hour. If you have any questions, ask them in that support thread before I go to bed. :)

i will
cloning the repo right now
@toscho for custom field gui mgmt, what do you use right now? or you hardcode everything?

I write just the code I need.
I haven't seen any good framework for that.

so ACF and Pods haven't impressed you?

argh!

8:31 PM
strange. most people would be in awe at what these plugins can do :)

Terrible, terrible code. I would never put that into production.

but i guess you see beneath the skin better. i wouldve hoped you had found something likable by year 2015..
that wouldve been my signal to use it. now im scared too :P

Run PHP Mess Detector on any of those plugins.

i settled on codesniffer with slightly modified wordpress-coding-standards
is there something significant that phpmd provides on top of that

It finds overly complex and dead code

8:34 PM
ohh, that's interesting. that means i gotta take a look.

btw for gist version strings, wouldnt it be logical to go YEAR.MM.DD format?
reversing it will break the version order shortly

indeed, I don't know why that went wrong in this case

okay, i see the Insert a value field now. re-reading instructions

Don't rely on the "dead code" thing - at least, don't exit with 1 if you are running it on git hooks - as there might be cases like public API pieces that aren't used by your own code.

wouldn't you just add "ignore" markers around that part and still benefit from the rest?
i'm really loving the way phpcs allows for markers like # XSS OK to avoid standards warnings on certain spots

9:23 PM
so github.com/WebDevStudios/CMB2 is apparently another custom fields effort
i'm wondering what's the right way to have additional wysiwyg editors. should probably look at what toscho did with the mlp main translation box

10:12 PM
Has anybody attended a WordCamp? I was thinking about going to one but I wasn't sure if there would be a ton of benefit as a lot of it seemed centered toward users than developers.

just have been on one. yes, it's worth the time
and the money
just try to talk to as many people as possible.
