A: What (if any) regularly scheduled airline flights pass over Antarctica?

JeremiahFirst of all the earth is Flat, so of course you only were allowed to go to 70 degrees south. The reason why that plane crashed in 2003 was because they hit the wall, contrary to the idea that somehow a flight that cruises at 30,000 feet would somehow lower to 12,000 feet and crash into a mountai...

so cool! we got a flat-earther! :-P

5 hours later…
6:03 AM
@JoErNanO nice work. Sadly I'm late to getting back from hospital so looks like I've missed out :/
I'm in sooo much pain. But turns out I was right in my suspicions, two hernias, not just one. But now I can barely move at all, all my stomach muscles are cut :/
@Dirty-flow notice what day it is? March 5......

6:26 AM
@MarkMayo I almost forgot it!

6:38 AM
yo

7:16 AM
remember, remember, the fifth of.... March

1 hour later…
8:24 AM
@MarkMayo get some rest, and figure out a way to stay in the competition. :)

8:50 AM
can't, I've missed the deadlines, no?

2 hours later…
10:50 AM
Is flat-earth a thing or is this just a joke?
Wondering about India-and-customs question. Are things particularly expensive there? Indian citizens particularly bent on cheating? Or is this just a side-effect of the sheer number of people in India?

11:16 AM
@Relaxed there are imported iphones in ebay india for sale for ~760 Euro, but I have no idea what they normally cost

@MarkMayo No I think the February is still on.
The March maybe. But without you we are lost, since you are the organiser. :)

A: February Answerathon - last man standing competition!

VinceMarch 4th - OPEN - 5 contestants remain Remember to check the current time in UTC to make sure your entry is valid. Name -------- Link to Answer in new question ------- Reviewed by Mark Mayo - Vince - Why do airlines (typically?) require customers to phone for special meals, and not provid...

Yup this ione is still open.
@Relaxed Kinda both. Things are same price as Europe there (statistics based on me looking for a DSLR while I was in India two years ago).
But things in the US are somewhat cheaper.

12:13 PM
@MarkMayo Chew gum. For several hours a day.

1:11 PM
yo

@ VessilliZaytsev Are you here?
yo

hi

hi man!
Welcome! You should come here more often (read: every day!). :)

thank you, how are you?

Buying train tickets online in Italy doesn't cost more than buying them in person.

1:17 PM
thats great
you live in Italy?

You can also buy e-tickets which don't require any printouts, just a smartphone will do. Or even the PNR written on the back of your hand.
I am Italian yes, and I am good, thanks. :)
However you can't buy regional tickets online.
Because most of these don't have assigned seats.

Thats great, I am planning to fly to Milan tomorrow, this is my first italy tour

This statement is both true and untrue at the same time, as it depends on the train and on the region. :)

I do not think about seats
it is fine if I do not have a specfic seat

Yes well on regional trains you won't have an assigned seat. Hence you can't book tickets online. Doesn't make much sense, I know.

1:20 PM
I am just interested to know, I will reach at Milan early morning, so far I know, there is not much to do in Milan, rather I should go to Verona

Verona is inter-regional train. You might even find a high-speed train to take you there. :)

That is my plan, just have a look on the city centre, then move for Verona, and stying the night there.

www.trenitalia.com

ya, i have already seen that

Ok go to Cadorna and walk to the Duomo, then. Forget Centrale.

1:21 PM
train fare is 12 euro
it is fine.

ohh.
thats nice,
so it is enough half day right?

yes

from which station central trains leave?
i mean regional

More than enough. From Milano Centrale.
At which point you take the C line (yellow) from Duomo to Centrale and you're done.

1:25 PM
that is awesome!!!

On a different note, how was the Parisian hostel?
Any good?

you're talking about traveling in this chatroom... what a shame! :D

hostel in paris?

:)

it was aweful

1:27 PM
Yes, didn't you ask for a hostel last time?

I stayed at friends hostel

Tell me how awful.

There were bed smell, the room were so narrow,
and the hostel stuff did not help a lot

@Dirty-flow You should join us. :P

There were no common space for the residents

1:28 PM
I'm not ready to travel now - no vodka around ;)
2

That's the thing about Paris: they know tourists will always come, so they don't make any effort with accomodation and services. Check hostelworld, all hostels score 80% or less.

actually I had a fight with a guy.

Really?

he came late at night, was drunk, i did not tell anything, but next morning when i got up ealr, he started shoutinh
the hostel authority did not tell anything
there were no drinking water, kitchen was dirty.
your only hope is to pass the night, nothing else. it was cheap, that was the best thing.

Yup. But it kinda ruins your experience, though.

1:33 PM
seems like it was a good decision to sleep in my car last time i visited paris

That's why airbnb hosts are making a fortune in Paris.

ya, average rating of youth hostel in Paris is low.
best choice, AirBnB.

good one :D
@JoErNanO, do you know something about lago di garda?

So far my less-worse (I can't say "best" yet) experience in Paris was at Canal's Inn, you cand read my review here: hostelworld.com/profile/8604629/reviews
I know something, yes. :)
What would you like to know?

1:37 PM
I am planning to go there from Verona
Does it worth to spend a day?

You decide: google.fr/… :)
If you have a day to spare I would go to Venezia.
Because the lake is nice an all but without a boat or a car it's kinda hard to see more than the city/village where the train/bus leaves you.
See here for how to get to Venezia: rome2rio.com/s/Verona/Venice (or ask a question and make me reputation-rich :D)

ohh. I ill be staying at venice 2 night

Ok good.
Then go to the Lake if you have the time to do both.
Also Ferrara has a nice old city centre. But I could go on forever.
And don't miss rome.

this time I am not coming to rome, it is too far. but next time sure
so my plan is to: day1: half day milan, rest of the day verona, 2 nd day: lake and around verona, 3 rd day: padova, and move to venice, 4 th day venice, 5 th day first half venice then flight from venice
is it good? hostel in verona are little bit expensive

Sounds good. And you can't really avoid paying a lot for accommodation in tourist cities. :)
Try couchsurfing.

1:46 PM
ha..ha..ha. I am, but still i try to minimise.
what about rideshare?

I've never used it in Italy, but it's slowly becoming more and more popular. And I have friends who have used it. So why not?
Truth is, I'm usually the driver, and I like to travel alone. :)

ha..ha..ha, i can see some nice offer at bla-bla car
do you think, they are safe?

That's a very subjective question: is the train safe?
Consider this: people use it, you might never be alone with the driver, so you can rely on group dynamics for safety.
I have friends who use blablacar in France on a regular basis, so much that they swear on it now.
So the answer is: it depends.

that is very nice. I will try rideshare at least one, these days

I have used blablacar in Germany many times - as driver and as passanger and have never made a bad experience

1:53 PM
Do that and then come back to give us feedback.

but the italian drivers are somehow... different, so I don't know

Different? :P

i will let you to know for sure.

they interpret the rules different
I don't know if this also apply for North Italy
but it was stressful to drive in Rome and Neaples

@Dirty-flow As your name suggests, just go with the (dirty) flow. :D

2:01 PM
´haha

2:53 PM
@vessilli beware that Uber in italy is very particular.

2 hours later…
4:54 PM
the muslim population in Europe and especially in France is highly dangerous ... much much dangerous than the afro american population in the USA ... something you will never know if you're not a (white) French man , we all know that. I am not propagating racist cliches, I just don't like to be a victim. — Karl Zorn 28 mins ago
I am not sure what smiley I could use to express my consternation…
I flagged it all (the answer and the comment) as “offensive”…
Ah, there is news on the other question too, it's not only Kazakhstan, it's the whole Caucasus and Central Asia
I am beginning to wonder if the guy truly believes all this or is simply a troll

@Relaxed he is definitely unhappy about something
He just insulted me

Also, France is dangerous because of its muslim population, the CIS is dangerous because of schanghai'ed farm workers but… Ukraine is the place to be right now!
Warm and safe and fuzzy

In Ukraine the children are playing let's find the church... It was around here somewhere

I think we just better ignore him now

Sometimes TSO is whack city
His activity trail. He's got an axe to grind about something.

5:09 PM
His first question was not completely crazy or delusive like his last comments but it was already a little off

A true case of nominative determinism! Zorn means angry in German :)

Q: Korea: Visa required to go to the city while in transit in Seoul for a Philippine citizen?

ReginaHi I'm traveling to Uzbekistan and have 12 hours layover in Seoul via Korean Airlines. Do I need a visa to go out of the airport for sightseeing? I'm a Philippine passport holder.

2 hours later…
11:18 PM
Finally made it to Canada! Immigration was a nightmare :)
