12:04 AM
Is the chat live?

12:25 AM
LOL, this puppy is airborne, hat's off to @Willeke @mts for getting the ball rolling
My three are out. @Vince glad to see you made it!
That's 4 people with 3 bounties = 12.
Lets see what the other do :) LOL, it's fun

chx
12:43 AM
it's not jun 1
is it
i am sick and my sleep schedule is seriously out of whack but i'd have sworn it's only 31th of May yet
In Vacnouver, BC that is :)

1:22 AM
@chx That's for you canucks. For us the clock started ticking two hours ago
Somebody put in two more bounties, don't know who it was,
Now 14 bounties :)

@chx That's some heavy tourism
Ford Island was hit bad in the Pearl Harbor attack
If memory serves they got two planes off the strip there somehow, miraculous.

that's when a flight was a real adventure in and of itself

chx
No kidding
San Francisco to Honolulu cost $278 ... you can get it again for that price and it is several times faster... miracles
It's really odd how quickly flight changed and then completely stagnated

1:43 AM
Yep. If anything a lot of flights are slower than they were 20 years ago, especially out of congested hubs

chx
I mean, the Lockheed Constellation entered into service in 1943 and the 707 entered into service in 1959 and that's just 16 years and they really are a world apart.
I just found Qantas used the Constellation to fly from Melbourne to San Francisco with stops in Fiji and Hawaii...
I really would like to fly on ramjets!

@chx A fleet of British WW2 aircraft is embarking on a world tour, check if it's laying over in your neighbourhood and you might be lucky

chx
URL?

I posted it in an answer I THINK, let me look...
Another example... In 2018, there will be a competition to fly around the world in Bristol Bulldogs. For people who live on the route and are aware that Bulldogs need to land for maintenance and fuel at the drop of a hat, there's an opportunity to offer some hospitality and a quick tour of your city.

Q: Where to find ferry flights and empty leg flights?

nsnBased on this question Avoiding crew fatigue on empty leg flights I learned that there are "empty leg" flights or "ferry flights". These seem a good option but I would like to know more about them. Where are these announced? How can one travel this way?

Earlier this year I helped a pilot deliver a Cherokee from Texas to Samarkand, I joined in London

chx
nice

2:15 AM
íThe return trip was taking a Mooney back to Texas for an overhaul
Again I left in London :)

chx
2:51 AM
How much should we put on the bounties?
50? 100?

1 hour later…
4:10 AM
Variable, I have 3 of 50 out there.
But will raise the stakes when appropriate

chx
OK I put 30 fifties out too.
Since I have drawn the line at 10k points, I have 1745 left :)
Plenty.

You are setting bounties at your 10k surplus?

chx
4:30 AM
yes
i dont need more than 10k
However, people are upvoting the silliest things so that can't be a problem, just today travel.stackexchange.com/a/61411/4188 this reached 10. wow.

It means you made a great answer

chx
LOL but the question is silly, every airport has drinking fountains.. or so i thought?

some airports have fancy "water bottle filling stations," which are basically drinking fountains that are meant for filling a bottle instead of drinking
like these (ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51whHDcdzoL._SL1280_.jpg), sometimes they're attached to a drinking fountain

it's a fetish question

mostly it's a way to show how "green" they are by encouraging people to refill reusable bottles using a machine that undoubtedly involved a great deal of resources to produce, but an airport is one of the few places they make a bit of sense
anyway I upvoted your answer because it's impressively researched and detailed

4:45 AM
@chx bounty count jumped to 17, was that you?

chx
I only added 3.
Willeke i think.

oh joy, our temporary admission friend has even more details to complicate this story: travel.stackexchange.com/questions/69115/…

Cool! @Vince and @Willeke put your stuff in the META thread so we can send you positive vibes

chx
@ZachLipton where?

@chx see the link there, it's an edit to the question

chx
4:48 AM
ah, an edit
that was my question, thanks

what she doesn't say is whether she actually left the UK on time

chx
it's just getting better and better
not our problem if she didnt
seriously, even if we encouraged her to overstay, taking advice from random strangers in such matters is beyond silly
but we didnt

dear lord

chx
we told her in no uncertain terms to enjoy her weekend and gtfo

oh dear lord

4:50 AM
apparently it was a Comic Con trip, "not some sex met up"

I know this story with my eyes closed

chx
Comic Con. That's how the guy got trapped. I know, I am kind of the same type , although I dont frequent Comic Con, probably the guy gets zero affection from the opposite sex ... and then someone online is SO into him
of course

seems to indicate they lived together for 2 years

chx
Where???
This whole mess doesn't add up.

@chx spot on
I invited her to chat :)

chx
4:56 AM
Oh that'd be swell
Although I wanted to write an answer to "Are these real reasons under the immigration act?" saying "Are you serious?"
what does she think, the IO dreamed up some crap because they dont like her?
Amazing

Add an answer!
Go for it

At the end of the day, a fast food worker taking a month-long overseas vacation for a long-distance relationship is going to send up all sorts of red flags to an IO. Maybe, if you interview well and get the boyfriend to provide his details, you can convince them of sponsorship and they'd let you in, but it's got to be an uphill climb. And nothing in the OP's story makes me think she interviewed well at all.

chx
5:12 AM

@chx While I share your feelings, perhaps that's a little sarcastic?

chx
do we have a ban on being sarcastic? :)
and perhaps not

it came up in relation to the whole private jet kerfuffle
and it's in the chat sidebar right now :)
I'm not flagging it, just saying

+1 There's a good chap

chx
Well
there's a bit more than sarcasm there
that is , even without knowing the law, just in general principles, such a question shouldn't arise

5:17 AM
@ZachLipton did you read what that fellow wrote before it was deleted?

I did
and I agree, asking whether the IO's reasons are real is a stupid question

If she comes back on line, invite her to come here
And the remonstration guy also :)

I realize it's a valid word, but remonstration just sounds so formal to my American English ears that it's hard not to laugh when I hear it

5:35 AM
When people get refused, they are angry, upset, confused, and sometimes hostile.
It's traumatic disappointment

2 hours later…
7:56 AM
250!

250?

latest bounty

That you have out or received?

just went up

Damn you're top of the leaderboard... there's no way I can beat you this week.

7:58 AM
for the blood test

Oh
CMaster dropping bombs!

the week is young

It's a long standing question
thought I'd see if a big enough bounty got anyone to find out

Can't imagine there's going to be a huge number of people needing to know the answer :)

I'm ignoring my work duties and furiously searching online for sources
I need that 250 booty
5
bounty*

8:05 AM
how come that question was protected? from me toos??

Could be, could also be anoymous spam edits
occasionaly a question starts attracting them
and it gets annoying to continuously reject

ah, ok

There's a few reasons questions get protected beyond the reasosn it says on the banner
One of my 100 bounties is easy too if you need the the rep that badly

@JoelDamien We all do. We all do. :)
@CMaster Too late. Mhyuwauhwahuwahuaw!

8:25 AM
All of us have more than 10 rep though, so we should all be able to answer it yes?

Yeah, the protection really only effects complete newcomers
@JoErNanO I'm going to want more than one link if you;re going to claim "consensus"

I'll let Joe have that 100 bounty question. I'll work on improving my kurdistan answer.
Also 500 club, whoop whoop!

I'm finding the nearest Kurdistan embassy to get my innoculations done

@JoelDamien Congrats @JoelDamien.
@CMaster How 'bout two? And a comment by Gayot saying it can be done?

@JoErNanO That'll do for something I'm pretty confident is true

mts
8:55 AM
@chx nice answer but a bit too sarcastic IMHO, you might want to add some "be nice" to it?
What about bounties that got answered early, leave them for the 7 days or award them early? @GayotFow @JoErNanO

I sort of fear we have too many bounties at once now :/

Guys, let's start with bounties on the old questions
in chronological order
these are the ones sitting there for ages without an answer
otherwise having lots of bounties is great

I guess it depends what the purpose of the bounties is. Is it to encourage new members, or is it to encourage answers to unresolved questions?

chx
One of my bounties got a useless answer

or 3) to encourage bounty hunters? :)
@chx you don't think "maybe. go and ask someone" is a good answer?

9:01 AM
some unresolved questions don't really need answers, and some resolved questions could benefit from newer/better answers

chx
@Berwyn haha yeah

@mts I believe you are allowed to award the bounty early if you see fit, however you'll have to replace it with another.

21 bounties

chx
9:26 AM
good night

g'night

nighty night

9:41 AM
@ZachLipton isn't it bed time in SF?!
it feels like it to me, since I'm still recovering from jet lag...

oh it's past bed time, I'm headed to sleep soon
just had to stay up so three of us could answer the same question simultaneously

hehe

let the record show that I was first ;)

Finally answered this beautyful question :)

Q: Where in Chengdu can we see Sanxingdui artifacts, besides the museum in Guanghan?

neubauI visited Chengdu a few years ago, and a friend who plans to visit recently asked me for advice about things to see there. One thing that looks interesting is the Sanxingdui ancient culture and its artifacts – large bronze masks that look like alien creatures, etc. There is a well-known museum ...

9:46 AM
Nice!

10:04 AM
Beautiful* :p

Hi
Answer looks good now

10:06 AM
How's it going man?

Though I'm not sure you go through customs at MNL, maybe just security
anyway, it sounds convincing to me :)

If it isn't a problem going through customs, it won't be in security

I was speaking to someone from that neck of the woods last night. He said it doesn't really matter what happens, you just pay a small bribe and you'd get away with it

Probably.... ;)
Anyone know good hotels in Tbilisi?
0
Q: What are the most reliable budget hotel options are available in Tbilisi?

Andrew WelchI have a friend who is visiting Tbilisi and has a budget of about $75 dollars per night .Do you have any suggestions? There are many on Trip advisor but its a mixed bag.

isn't the the kind of question that gets closed?

10:17 AM
Don't know?

@ZachLipton foiled by deviantfan

I hate how it takes away rep when you flag :(

if you max out at 200 then it doesn't
or rather, you get it back a few minutes laster
later

10:44 AM
Do you think my answer to this question is sufficient?
0
A: Rock climbing when on Malta

Nathan Shoesmith Malta boasts over 1300 climbing routes to choose from, and good weather throughout most of the year, the Maltese Islands are becoming a climber's paradise. http://www.visitmalta.com/en/climbing Guides and lessons for rock climbing in Malta can be found widely, notably by MC Adventure. ...

No it might need a few more sources.

mts
@NathanShoesmith good answer but at times it sounds like a commercial (i know it isn't)

Haha I joke, it's pretty good.

mts
could you edit to make clear what is a quote and what's the source
and that the company you found that offers tours might be one of many or that it's the only one you found

Looks good, but I don't have the first clue about rock climbing

10:46 AM
I get what mts is saying though, you have multiple links to a single company for different activities, kinda looks a bit advertise-y.

Yes - hopefully making clear the source will make it sound less like a commercial
I will try and find another source
Although, this one kept popping up
All the pages I read link to the same source!

That's fair enough then.

There is another one called goclimbmalta
but their website seems to have shut
The one in the answer is highly rated, so should be fine

mts
that's fine just point it out in your A
one more thing: a boulder is no equipment to rent out, the sports subdiscipline is called bouldering and you would rent a crashpad as described on their site

It's so hard to find official sources to my answer in this question

Q: I am a US/UK citizen and I entered the UK with my US passport. Can I stay in the UK past the visa expiration date?

RuthI have dual US/UK citizenship. Four months ago, I left my country of residence in the US to live in UK. I entered UK on my US passport which was stamped with a 6-month stay on it. Can I or should I ignore the 6-month-stay stamp after it has expired on my US passport and still live here legally ...

but it should be obvious right?

11:00 AM
I think it's obvious that you can stay. What's not obvious are the consequences of doing so
my wife travels on two passports and my son does too. they've never had any problems

I think the OP was asking primarily if they can stay legally

Yes, looks like it

he certainly can stay legally since he's a citizen

Answer updated @mts

I don't think that is the problem
it's one thing being legal and another being abducted at 3am, renditioned to guantanamo bay and getting out 20 years later as an innocent man ;)

11:04 AM
I just don't know how to improve my answer, it's being downvotes (presumably for lack of sources) but I can't find any sources that describe what happens to the other passport if left unchecked. Hence why I left the UKVI contact info.

mts
@NathanShoesmith good job. Also check this link which I found from your first source, you might want to include it gozoadventures.com/outdoor-activities-in-gozo-and-malta/…

Cheers @mts

I bet I hold the record here for downvotes

mts
There's also three other useful links you might want to mention

11:10 AM
just added 3 bounties :)

mts
@NathanShoesmith on that first link you have on your A, check the sites linked there :) I find them useful so you might mention the links in your A or link them. just my opinion of course, the bounty should be yours already unless someone comes up with a lot of effort ;)

Only 25 to go then!

I see what you mean @mts
I've added one more link in @mts
All the others either linked to each other or where already there

Well apparently my maths didn't work out, the chat event is in 13 hours, haha. Well it'll be the end of day 1 :)

change the name to debrief

11:16 AM
Currently 1750 of bounty up for grabs

@Relaxed thanks for the upvote and vouch. :)
@MarkMayo what does the chat event entail? Will there be confetti? :D

Can anyone with over 25k rep post site traffic stats as this event progresses? It already feels like we're getting more users...
Also @Berwyn gratz on the gold badge, didn't notice it.

11:36 AM
best not mentioned...
10 passport number answers

@JoelDamien if you bring it ;) Was more to get people in here, hopefully raising bounties, discussing questions etc

"Since this is a restricted privilege, we'd prefer you not share the raw data. However, we do hope you will share your analysis of the data with other users on meta"

12:15 PM
@mts Gotta wait 48h to award bounties.

What do you think about this question? Surely if outside of holiday season, queing for online reservatios or at the exebition would be just as quick as each other?
8
Q: Palazzo Strozzi - is the online ticket queue shorter?

Federico PoloniI plan to visit an art exhibition in Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, and I have the option of purchasing my tickets online ahead of time with a surcharge. Clearly this makes sense only if the queue for online reservations is significantly shorter than the regular queue; otherwise it is just a waste...

My wife has been there. Said there wasn't much of a queue. But she bought tickets there

@NathanShoesmith IMHO it depends. If the same number of people queue for reserved tickets and for unreserved ones then the queue is obviously the same. The implicit assumption here is that people rarely use advanced tickets (see the Musei Vaticani as a blatant example) thus that queue is to date always faster.

Was that inside or outside of holiday season @Berwyn

think it was last june/july

12:24 PM
I would think the queue for those who have booked online would be faster moving - based on not needing to give any payment
But if everyone books online, the other queue obviously shorter
How do you think this should be answered? There isn't really any definitive answer and could vary from day to day

Someone please tell @MarkMayo that we currently have 30 bounties up and running on Travel. He's never gonna believe that.

mts
@JoErNanO the FAQ travel.stackexchange.com/help/bounty says "Bounties must have a minimum duration of at least 1 day." So I guess gotta wait at least that. But by the "rules" of the bounty bonanza, can I award bounties after less than 7 days and place a new bounty on another question?

@mts Yes absolutely. The goal is to have bounties running throughout the bonanza. So nobody forces you to wait 7 days.

mts
Great!

I think we'll elect various types of winners. The user with most bounties offered, awarded, earned, stolen, etc. :)

I found even more info on the "museum" in Chengdu from a random chinese forum, can't believe I would practice my Chinese that much today :)

@Berwyn I think you've earned enough rep with sarcasm already. :P

:)

Now what you all don't know yet is that I plan on either breaking even or earning rep by the end of the bonanza. So if you don't hurry I'll start answering everything. Mhuwahuwahuwahuawhuaw! /cc @GayotFow

I've purchased an Ibex on ebay and am planning on taking him on a trip to the alps

12:37 PM
@Berwyn Gotta tell @GayotFow when you plan on leaving.

@NathanShoesmith It's often better to inline the links using the appropriate markdown. First of all it looks neater. Secondly you can give information about the link content using the text.

Okay, I'll bear that in mind @JoErNanO :)

@JoErNanO I apologize for insulting the webmasters of the glorious nation of Italy in my answer ;)
