It's not a loophole
in the sense of a work-around anyway

I was looking at something that said you can only vote on it if you have so many points on that tag or something like that. which sounded like you could just edit the post to add the tag and then perform the action
but I think that's different to the tag synonym thing anyway

I won't be able to award the bounty tonight, i have a catfe visit (yay!) and a movie to watch.

@HeidelBerGensis, put in your 3 bounties so we can get up to 35

2 hours later…
8:07 AM
@NathanShoesmith @JoErNanO So you've both given me effactivley the same answer in a small space of time
This makes decideding who to give the bounty to difficult.

8:24 AM
Sorry...
Hang on - which question is this concerning?
@CMaster

8:41 AM
3
A: Making pen and ink corrections on a UK visa form?

Nathan ShoesmithAdvice appears to suggest that as long as passport and visa applications are neat, very minor crossed out errors won't make any trouble; Complete the form in capital letters with a black ballpoint pen Write only within the white boxed areas Leave other areas of the form blank. Do not ...

Well, I suppose both answer the question - it's just up to you to decide which you think explains better and is more informative to helping anybody in the situation described in the question. Have fun deciding 😉
@CMaster

9:00 AM
@CMaster Joe already has tons of rep, I'm sure he wouldn'
wouldn't mind you awarding 100 in bounty to a new guy
Plus @NathanShoesmith mentions some extra info like not using correction fluid.

Q: What's the quickest route between antepodes using regularly scheduled transit?

chxI am raising Fastest route around the world on regularly scheduled transportation? this comment to a question: what's the fastest way to touch antepodes and then back. To allow for easier transit, allow 100km from the actual antepode so you don't need to hike into the middle of nowhere. Is it Auc...

Perhaps you should stipulate how close to the antipode you need to be? like within 100 miles or something?
I'm blind. you did!

chx
9:46 AM
:)
@Berwyn why did you delete your answer to the LAX question
@Berwyn some sourcing would be good, that's true

because I ended up answering the wrong question. I thought it would be just better to delete it

chx
I see
But the question makes sense, doesn't it

It does

chx
The description is not clear at all
I didn't add an obligatory Soviet Russia quote :P
"In Soviet Russia, the stroller checks you in!"
or something.

heh

chx
9:50 AM
antipodes? not antepodes? how odd!
Perhaps I am mixing Greek with Latin

it did have that spelling in the original comment. I googled it
I'm thinking there must be more to the DAA issue than just LAX. Ukrainian can't DAA at LGW
maybe the country of arrival doesn't allow it for aircraft coming from certain countries?

chx
That would be really odd
Although there might something to that because JFK and IAD are all listed

like an anti-smuggling issue or something or security
maybe they screen hold luggage from certain countries

chx
but Miami is not listed
they fly to Miami

ah

chx
9:58 AM
maybe noone cares because anyone smuggling shit into Miami from Moscow would smuggle it via Cuba anyways :P ?
and a ship, of course

then maybe no airbridge access from tarmac at those airports
damn. I want to know now!

chx
:D
I haven't found it before asking because I searched for LAX
but since you pointed out other airports might be relevant this is a good guess "they couldn't give it to us in the jetway at JFK because of the escalator you take down to immigration/customs"
although that smells, how the hell would they take wheelchairs then?
yeah the answer is JFK has elevators for people with storllers/wheelchairs - so that's nonsense. I've had delta (and others) return my kids stroller at the gate multiple times

yeah, don't think it's that
health and safety...

chx
LHR: Drop at bridge, usually staff member there, retrieve at bridge, note gate A15 exception below, post 7, liaise with gate staff for alternative arrangements well before board.
this is a big mystery

A15 sounds like it doesn't have the tarmac to jetbridge facility

chx
10:10 AM
You mean stairs??

yes

chx
Why does it need to be a facility
That's superb odd

I mean stairs
that must be the case since they say they can return to A13 in an emergency
anyway, it looks the rules are really complex and maybe airline and airport dependent. some of those you have to check the stroller at check-in and may retrieve at door
glad I deleted my answer!

Q: How to tell if travel location is "affordable"

LampPostBackground: Lets say I am deciding between London and Korea to visit and my currency is USD. While comparing the two locations I notice their exchange rates. The GBP exchange rate for 1 USD is 0.60 GBP while the exchange rate for KWN is 1 USD to 1200 KWN. Question: Is there traveler's tips and/...

My thought was that there must be a "cost of tourism index" like a cost of living index
but applicable to tourists rather than people who live there
wow, you've already got an answer on your antipodes question

10:59 AM
Just had an idea for a travel site
Calculat the length of Wikitravel articles for each city/location
and then show them on the map as a heat map
should be perfect for road trips
as that's basically what I do when planning trips
Wonder if something like this already exists

dunno, sounds like a good idea though
propose it as a question and see if someone will write it for a bounty of 100 ;)
Being a pastor in Kenya sure pays well

Well, he has an account that claims to contain $200k
also, apparently Indian mothers expect to be treated very well when visting their children abroad
Ah, she's just replied - they expect to be treated fairly well, and go on a big shopping spree with their children's money

11:31 AM
@GayotFow would you say it was wrong of me not to directly answer whether or not it would have been worth for them to re-apply?
I just thought that was subjective and up to the OP, and that what she really wanted to know was what she could do to improve her application...
@JonathanReez Is that based on the underlying assumption that a longer wikitravel article means the place is better to visit/travel through?

@CMaster Give the new guy the bounty. He need the rep. :) /cc @NathanShoesmith

@JoErNanO Already done
and how much did it hurt you to say that?

Although his fake modest "you decide whomever gave you the best answer" is clearly a cry for rep. :P

Not literally, but they make an awful lot of money.

There seems to be no way to actually calculate a ticket cost n the RATP website

They can easily save 200K in about 5 years depending on how popular they are...

Q: Are there still many refugees on the Copenhagen-Hamburg train?

EvaLast time I traveled with DB/DSB by train between these two cities there were groups of people who did not have passports and created a lot of problems in both directions both in first class and second class in the train. Can someone tell me what the situation is now?

Does DB stand for German rail?

DeutscheBahn
so yes

Ok thanks - wasn't clear in the question

Nathan, where are you from?
traveled is American English, and travelled is British (or at least non-US)

Norwich, UK

probably best to leave American English spelling as is

1:13 PM
Did I change this?

thought I just saw an edit from you

I though I just edited with the DeutscheBahn bit
I added that the DB stood for DeutscheBahn - because it wasn't clear
Think that's all I edited though

it has traveled crossed out and replaced with travelled

It might have been changed by my grammar extension automatically
Apologies if it did

ah, ok
not sure it would bother someone but you never know

1:18 PM
Probably not, but you don't know. Now answering question, user who posted the question is coming up as unregistered?

was it migrated?

What do you mean?
This is her profile, it says she joined, asked the question, and wasn't seen again

there was another question early today which was migrated from another SE site. thought it might be that
in that case the user never needs to have registered on travel SE

I'm not sure
She is on no other Stack stites

probably not in this case

1:57 PM
@GayotFow So you don't think she has any possibility of being successful in the near future? Damn, that sucks. Feel bad for her :( In any case, I've updated my answer with more info relating to the point @CMaster made.

@GayotFow seems to in general have a fairly pessemistic approach on these things
however, as the resident (ex) visa lawyer, perhaps there's a point there

True that.

2:09 PM
@GayotFow Not enough attention? :) Nice bounty

mts
@GayotFow @Berwyn was about to say the same, 12k+ views and a bunch of (ok not all good) answers

On this SE, do we edit out "Thanks :)" from questions? I've experience this on S.SE, just asking to see if it's practiced here, so that I can edit a question.
Jebus! 500 bounty that's the highest I've ever seen.

Normally, yes

I felt that was the case, just didn't want my edit to be rejected.

@JoelDamien Giving false hopes to the OP is worse; if anything, then advise them to see a solicitor

2:14 PM
What 500 bounty? Someone must be feeling generous!

@GayotFow on his pet dueling question

Q: How can a tourist obtain an 'authentic' duelling scar?

Gayot FowIntroduction... The dueling scar, also called schmiss or renommierschmiss (bragging scar), was considered a mark of honor. No wonder there is 5 answers for 500 bounty

nah, bounty only just went up

it was 200 or 250 before, which is still quite a lot.

The Q has clearly gone on Hot Network Qs though

2:15 PM
Oh right

90 upvotes is unusal

Yes, people certainly going for it!

@GayotFow wouldn't a solicitor cost more than a visit visa application fee? I tried to word my answer as neutrally as possible to avoid giving false hope, however I'll add the solicitor part too...

@JoelDamien You have the wrong end of the stick. A solicitor will ALWAYS cost more than the application fee. You need to factor in a bad immigration history, loss of mobility, loss of karma, family stress, and all the rest. The application fee is laughably irrelevant against those factors.

upvote the good answers, down vote the bad so that the right person can claim the bounty :)

My experiences of getting purposefully injured are somewhat limited
All the answers are about not being able to achieve the authentic duelling scar.

2:33 PM
@GayotFow you can award to any answer you like, including the messenger/ranter you shot/duelled. the answer got hot so no amount of asking people in chat will correct that. if you have an inkling that it might (contrarily to the answers out there) be possible you should give out word
on a side note I wanted to post later on meta about answering that things are not possible

Surely it is possible by just privately arranging to have a duel with someone and avoiding these fraternities

mts
it might not be authentic then

wouldn't it be 'authentic' if it happened during a duel?
obviously not if someone just deliberately scarred you while you stood there without defending yourself
though that is SO...

Surely if a person answers saying something is not possible, that is acceptable if the question was 'Can I do ....?'

It is if they're right

2:43 PM
Well yes

@Berwyn You'd need seconds and support people

@GayotFow Yeah, you're very right, especially the bad immigration history.

@GayotFow I missed the bounty: travel.stackexchange.com/a/69560/9891
What are the rules about how long the bounties should stay open.

P.S. I never downvote cause it costs rep :P

2:51 PM
@StrongBad Seven days, +1 day grace
@JoelDamien And? tell her that

@GayotFow I have already added it to my answer the moment you mentioned it :) I'll edit in 'to avoid bad immigration history' now.

@GayotFow I meant for this bounty event. Are you guys awarding them as quickly as possible or waiting the 7 days ...

I'm awarding once I'm happy with an answer

@CMaster It's down to the spell caster

@CMaster that makes sense. Seems a little frustrating to find a question I like/can answer and then find that the bounty is award asap.

Personally I intend to make some of my bounties rewards for good answers I see during the event

Q: Are we too easily in answering "no, impossible"

mtsMany questions ask if something is possible (or where can I do x in y). Often the answer is hard to find out and in a good part of these cases the answer might be "no, that is impossible, you can not do this for a reason." However I feel that we are (recently) too easy on answering that somethin...

@Berwyn just posted two related SO links that I will integrate. I still think it is useful to have such a separate discussion for TSE though.

+1'd @mts, I share your concern.

@mts I think it's an interesting discussion. Perhaps there should be some guidlines, or maybe there already are
I wondered whether I should post my theory about luggage linear measurement as an answer even though I couldn't find any reference to back it up. So maybe the guidance should also be about posting a guess as an answer
2
A: Why is airline baggage measured in linear inches?

BerwynThis is just a theory, but I suspect the airlines or airline body responsible, set a volume limit, but as Zach mentioned, this could result in people taking unwieldy sized luggage excessively long in one dimension. If you take the cubic root of this limit and multiply by 3, this results in a sing...

The new 5 pound note, awesome

mts
@StrongBad good A, +1 and I see your concern. In fact I am leaving one of my bounties open longer than planned for this exact reason.

@GayotFow Looks good. Wonder why not a 5 pound coin though
must be about time

Different people, not the Bank of England

3:27 PM
Is it ok to put a bounty on a question you've already provided an answer to?

Would seem a little weird to...?
Unless the answer is very bad
?

Well, none of the answers are authoritative

Maybe then

mts
it's ok but you have post more min rep as bounty to avoid rep-hunting. absolutely no problem in doing so though.

I posted 100
surely I can't award it to myself though can I?

3:37 PM
£5 coins do exist

mts
i'd be very surprised if I could

special editions only though, imagine you might have trouble spending them some places

There are apparently $2 notes in the US. Was reading a story about a schoolgirl who got arrested for using one at school

and I think the idea of the new polymer notes is that they're much mure durable anyway

3:39 PM
so coins have few advantages
I recall some guide on Vietnam says that they really like $2 notes for some reason

easier to forge?

i got a given a $2 usd note in Zimbabwe once

No, some kind of superstition thing
Like, if you gave a $2 as a tip, it would be more appreciated because it was lucky in some way

@CMaster I carry a 2USD note in my wallet for good luck.

4:48 PM
I carry a gold Amex card in my wallet for good luck

@GayotFow You also live in Mayfair. :P

5:25 PM
I carry a transit card in my wallet... to take the metro.

@JoErNanO Thanks for the alter-ego tip. Interesting...
I've been carrying a 1 pound Scottish note around for a while for no particular reason

@Relaxed You are a bo-bo. :P

Not really, probably a hipster though

2 hours later…
6:59 PM
@GayotFow done

@Relaxed, it is not so much the flight I mind with EasyJet, it is being herded like cattle into a holding pen, and the fact that for each choice in seat you have to pay extra.

7:14 PM
@Willeke Welcome to the future of air travel.

I did not mind it as much when you got to chose your seat when getting into the plane (free seating, no seats allocated at that time.) But being in the middle of the row 3 out of the last 5 flights, I was not happy.
I am willing to pay a slightly higher ticket price, but I am not willing to pay for seat selection. Silly as that is. I might in the future, now I am trying KLM for a change.

7:27 PM
@Willeke What do you mean? You don't have much space on KLM, people queue up all the same. I just had a KLM flight last week and I really didn't see any difference, save for the fact that you do get some food and a personal item.
Can't argue with preferring to pay more as long as it's not split in fare + seat selection fee but that really does sound silly.

Please see my new answer on the meta "Answering No"

A: Are we too easy in answering "no, it's impossible"

Nathan ShoesmithHere is my opinion for what we should do; If a answer like this is submitted; 'No.'* or 'No, that is not possible' something along those lines, the answer should not be allowed and removed. If an answer is submitted saying 'No, I cannot find any information to suggest this,' I think this should...

@Relaxed You seem to know the cheap carrier pier in Schiphol, first you have to hang around in the lobby waiting for your gate, then you go to the boarding area where you have to stand/hang waiting for the plane to be ready. Never had that happen on any KLM flight there.

Oh that...

UK airports are mostly very poor in giving gate information, so not much difference there.

Probably true but I got to stand in the jetbridge, don't really see a difference...
That's really Schiphol specific though
But OK fair enough
(My flight last week was on the way back to Schiphol)

7:33 PM
I think it is mostly EasyJet's change in seat policy that rubs me wrong. I liked the 'any seat' system. Hate to pay for seat selection and do not like middle seats
Last couple of years I mostly flew to Heathrow, where EasyJet does not fly, so got used to KLM and BA standards.

But there is no KLM standard!
Schiphol is their hub so they have a marginally better terminal but otherwise it's just as bad!

Not one standard but their bottom level is still above EasyJet

KLM standard for what?

I really don't see it
No, it's not
This discussion is running circles ;)
Ryanair is worse, Swiss is better, KLM? Really don't see the difference

The way passengers are handled.
Never used Ryanair, as it does not use Schiphol, (which is easy to reach, Eindhoven is 2 hours by car from where I live.)

7:37 PM
even if it was outside your house you still wouldn''t want to use it

On a related note, I have a hard time convincing our secretaries to book me a flight on other airlines when they can, like Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong. Dutch people just love KLM. But it's not particularly good, objectively speaking.

I don't let anyone book flights for me
that way madness lies

Often you get better service for less money if you use the far end airport home airline.
Or a stop-over point one.
I do only fly for holidays, and most flights NL - UK

8:07 PM
@Willeke Dank je

thanks Joel. I just put a note in about passport control

it was a good answer
I can't remember if there's an EU citizens line exiting Schengen at MUC. Last time I did it I had access to the LH first class lounge and they have their own immigration officer in there, crazy efficient Germans that they are
and since I'm not an EU citizen I don't tend to notice such details anyway
is an EU citizens line common at Schengen exit points or just entry?

No idea, never been to Schengen zone except when I was like 6/7 years old.
Anyways I should really get to sleep
