A: Use of と and meaning of 色々 in this sentence

eltonjohnI am posting this as an answer, as I received a complaining comment from istrasci. ------------- snip, snip, snip ------------ 色々と = various, all kinds of. お母さん = mother (of course!) In this case she addresses herself "mother" rather than "I / me" to emphasise that she is extremely irritated....

A: What function does とは have here? Is に omitted here?

SqrtbottleLike 〜というのは, this shows that you are talking about 不自由 as a topic of discussion. The most notable usage of this expression is in encyclopedias, but also to define phrases ore talk about them (it just so happens that encyclopedias do exactly this). In this sentence, you should be looking at とは無縁 ...

@Lorenz 英語でも日本語でもいいと思う

頭が低いだねー
問題していいなら、どこに住んでいるか?
@snailboat
Well it's more a where are you from instead of where do you live
「どこの人」って正しいの方かな

Anonymous
@Lorenz 「出身」ってことですね

出身!

Okay I give up lol, what are you trying to say?
And how do you come up with those characters, I'm really curious now haha
For a second it looked like you're speaking chinese or something

Anonymous
9:56 PM
@Lorenz You can tell it's not 'cause there's kana

lol I don't know kanji. Was just copying random words from above xD
Gomen

hahaha
lol you bastard, I was breaking my head

xD

It's cool
Yeah but it kinda looked like a chinese person trying to speak japanese haha @snailboat

I just translated from google. I was saying stupid stuff xD
千hikuナナ?

9:57 PM
@berserk I think that's enough, thank you very much :-)

does google really give you that? Their translator must be really bad hehe

lol ok
@Lorenz No, I was just copying random characters from above messages.

Anonymous
Characters, not words

Later I translated all my messages into english and they were funny lol

スネールボートさんは日本語にいったことがあるか?

Anonymous
9:59 PM
Like if you copied random chunks of English words like ankansIloooglbadmustThe

haha exactly

>ooog
I like your style
aah sorry
I didn't mean 日本語
I meant 日本

Btw how will you guys write "What is one thousand minus seven?"

@snailboat

Sen hiku nana.

10:01 PM
I don't know how to say that :(

@Lorenz any tips for a newbie like me to learn japanese? :3
Oh :(

yeah, speak with japanese people
make japanese friends

There are no japanese people in my circle ;_;
Not even in my area.

after you've learned the kana of course

kana? O_O
kanaji?
katakana?

10:02 PM
Nor in my area, in fact I'm so shy in real life that even if I were to meet a japanese person on the street I wouldn't have the balls to talk to them

lol

But don't forget that a lot of japanese spend their days on chatrooms

I won;t hesitate if I know some japanese.

a lot of people are interested in english or any foreign language
try things like lang8 or penpals
websites for knowing people who speak languages and correcting each other's language skills

cool
arigato gozaimas Lorenz-san!

10:05 PM
No problem :P がんばろうね!
It means let's do your bestね

\o/

Also @snailboat I'm sorry but I buried my message to you up there and you might have missed it, so I'm just gonna post it again here: スネールボートさんは日本にいたことがあるか?
also @berserk if you have any question don't hesitate to ask me, mate
I'll gladly help you out

Sure, thanks! :)
I registered at lang-8.
But I guess I must start studying some basics first.
Where shall I start from?

yes, hiragana and katakana

Any good tutorials?

10:08 PM
I'd start with hiragana because it's more used
If you're the type of guy who learns with videos, youtube is filled with them

I was thinking to buy some books.
I am tired of using my laptop for everything lol

Depends on the person I guess, I suck when it comes to study from books
I'm a 'practical learner

Videos are cool. But I hate reading ebooks.
Its been a long time since I read a book.
I don't even remember last time when I read an actual book.

If you don't like books don't use 'em
Although I bet you'll find a book you like though

I am actually dying to read books.
Its been a while.
Guess I will start following some youtube channel.

10:13 PM
But really, the time I learned the most was thanks to having japanese friends over skype and stuff. We'd have group calls which was fun
Also yes, follow videos, keeps you motivated

Cool. I don;t have japenese friends tho ;_;

Man when i started learning japanese as a teen shit was so fun, I'd sit in class with a book about japanese hidden in my normal school book haha

xD
I used to take naps in my college lecture :P

Once you've got a basic skill go to a japanese chat
I really sucked as a student ;_;
That's what I'm studying from home now
I'm trying to master being my own teacher, shit's hard.

Self-teaching is tough, indeed.
A teacher makes things easy.

10:16 PM
Yeah, but also finding a country where the education system is good is harder than it seems at first glance.

LOL I accidently selected japanese as my native language and punjabi as my learning language.

You won't teach other people japanese while you learn punjabi? what a pussy!

xD
I changed :P
I will teach other people punjabi while I learn japanese ^^
4:00 AM!!!! Office at 9:30 AM!!! Sleep time, cya!

Go instasleep now!

jup
ZZZZZzzzzz.............
