yo'
12:17 AM
Do you know how in some hotels, floor 13 is missing? In this article I got here, obviously the issuse is with numbers 9 and 10 as they are skipped in the equation numbering. :-(

10 hours later…
9:49 AM
CARNAVAL IS OVER, FINALLY

10:00 AM
@PauloCereda don't worry it'll come round again next year

@DavidCarlisle oh no

10:50 AM
@PauloCereda We had to go to one carneval session too (the programm was actually quite good, I have seen much worse) but happily we can't be identified

@UlrikeFischer oooh AWESOME!

@UlrikeFischer is that @egreg you are with?

11:05 AM
@DavidCarlisle It's not square

Good morning to everybody
Thanks a lot lot for your help David
@DavidCarlisle is not quick to write in English and often use the translator. I would like you to answer right away, and I apologize.

For adding the TL bin to PATH on linux. Does anyone remember the reason why the path additions should be added to both profile and bashrc? It hash to be in at least profile (i'm playing with adding it as a file under /etc/profile.d/, works fine). I think it was something about of one ssh to the PC then profile is not executed. Anyone remember the details?

@DavidCarlisle: No, I spotted @egreg on Sunday afternoon ...

Hola'''''''''''''''' dear friend, best regards from Sicily
@ChristianHupfer Are you free?

@Sebastiano No, I am bound to this universe (yet)...

11:21 AM
@ChristianHupfer ahahahaahh, Why my question is negative score?
@ChristianHupfer Is there the possibility to modificate the David's answer only for two fonts tug.org/TUGboat/Articles/tb19-3/tb60kinch.pdf

@Sebastiano Not from me -- Others and me have voted to reduce the negative score, but I think many users regarded it a 'Do it for me' question ...

@ChristianHupfer it does not matter
Belleek Math Italic (blmi) 10 pt at 600 dots/inch.

@daleif I think there's something about non-interactive sessions, perhaps...

@PauloCereda Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii paulo my best regardssssssssssssssss

@Sebastiano Really, I am no font expert. I could advise you anything regarding fonts ... 99,9 % of it would be really good bad.

11:25 AM
@Sebastiano Hello! A nice day to you! :)

@PauloCereda Yes, something like that unix.stackexchange.com/questions/38175/…. I'll see if I can add a line in bashrc that execute my script from the profile, only of this is used as an interactive shell.

@daleif Nice plan. Something along the lines of source /path/to/your/profile

Just such that the path addition is only set in one place and is only updated in one place.

@ChristianHupfer Ok Christian.

@Sebastiano There are definitely font experts here, but I am not one of them.

11:33 AM
@ChristianHupfer But my question is too broad?

@daleif: now that you mentioned it, I remember that in my setup I have TL configured inside /etc/profile.d, which seems to propagate to interactive and noninteractive sessions.

@DavidCarlisle in texlive 2016 the following outputs "abc" when compiled with xelatex. With plain xetex, xelatex from 2015, pdflatex I get as expected "cba". Do you know what's going on?
\documentclass{article}
\TeXXeTstate=1
\begin{document}
\beginR
abc
\endR
\end{document}

@UlrikeFischer Hi too you
Best regards to everybody I go to home.

@UlrikeFischer: In other news, I am learning Gregorian chant! It's been very eye opening!

11:50 AM
@UlrikeFischer Hmm
@UlrikeFischer I wonder if this has ever worked with OpenType fonts: can you check XeLaTeX 2015 + fontspec?

@JosephWright @DavidCarlisle: It is the font, when I load fontspec in texlive 2015 it doesn't work either.

@UlrikeFischer You've tried another font?
The bit that concerns me is
....\beginR
....\TU/lmr/m/n/10 abc
....\glue 3.33 plus 1.665 minus 1.11
....\endR

@JosephWright Arial doesn't work either. I think I will have to look what bidi does.

@UlrikeFischer My guess this is a general issue with HarfBuzz
@UlrikeFischer Or rather with the link between HarfBuzz, XeTeX and TeX--XeT
\font\OTtenrm="[lmroman10-regular.otf]/OT" %
\OTtenrm
\TeXXeTstate=1
\beginR
abc
\endR
\bye
@DavidCarlisle, @UlrikeFischer ^^^
@DavidCarlisle, @UlrikeFischer One for the XeTeX list I guess
@UlrikeFischer Mail to XeTeX list sent
@UlrikeFischer Probably bidi doesn't 'notice': HarfBuzz will presumably there be working with fonts/codepoints which are RTL so come out correctly

12:08 PM
@JosephWright just saw that on list, @UlrikeFischer causing trouble again !

@DavidCarlisle See also Phil Taylor and my replies

@JosephWright I started to reply to Phil yesterday and thought there was no point:-)

@DavidCarlisle About?

@JosephWright ah I see, Phil entered this thread, no I meant I thought about explaining latex font handling to Phil (again) (but Ulrike did that for me:-)

@DavidCarlisle Which list?

12:11 PM
@JosephWright er.... oh it was texhax

@DavidCarlisle Oh right: I saw the messages but didn't bother with the detail

Seems there is a new user species -- the bounty vampire: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/355298/logo-positon-in-beamer/…

@samcarter Raised 'higher up': something odd here

@samcarter should I troll him? :)

@JosephWright Thanks! The strange thing is, the username first shows up as "Community" and then changes to "user..."

yo'
12:24 PM
@samcarter I replied, but I agree, things are odd there -- the user is non-existent.

@PauloCereda Don't wast your precious thesis writing time :)

@samcarter oh

@samcarter I've protected the question to avoid low-rep users posting

@yo' If it would be Halloween, I would say we have a ghost, but in March? Not really the traditional season for ghost, as far as I know.

yo'
@samcarter could be the carnival thingy

12:29 PM
@yo' Oh yes. Now that you mention it, there had been a lot of funny looking people on the telly in the last few days -- could be an explanation :)

yo'
@samcarter :) now excuse me, it's lunchtime for me

@DavidCarlisle @JosephWright Sorry ;-) But Jonathan explained it quite good. But it can be a bit of a shock, when you don't expect it. Sometimes I do understand why Hans wants to keep the control. But the question arised because I was looking as github.com/lualatex/luaotfload/issues/410 and wondered what is the expected output (with lualatex) of this here:
\documentclass{article}
\begin{document}

ab^^^^0301c ab^^^^0323c

\textdir TRT
ab^^^^0301c ab^^^^0323c

\end{document}

Khaled again: he's very active around tex last few weeks...

@DavidCarlisle So I saved you some trouble ;-)

@yo' Bon appétit!

yo'
12:43 PM
@samcarter a large bowl of pumpkin soup with ginger, and cheese khachapuri :)

1:32 PM
@UlrikeFischer Hans has the situation that he's not putting together two different approaches, certainly, plus the fact that TeX--XeT really isn't very good ...
@UlrikeFischer As Jonathan says, an over-ride might be useful but in the main people expect codepoints to behave based on their intrinsic RTL properties
@UlrikeFischer As the kerning is wrong for LTR text printed RTL, and as this would be an odd case, I guess simply reversing at the macro level is equally appropriate as expecting an over-ride
@UlrikeFischer Conclusion: don't use TeX--XeT, bad things happen (I feel something like a stuck record on this)
@DavidCarlisle ^^^

@JosephWright true although they also expect to pour in mixed language text and have bidi and hyphenation just work, but they are disappointed, mostly.

@DavidCarlisle Sure: language not (necessarily) a property of codepoints, but RTL I think is

@JosephWright speaking of stuck records, I hope you'll reply to the "color causes vertical offset" beamer issue by a statement that it's not my fault.

@DavidCarlisle Most likely
@DavidCarlisle Prod Frank re. Alice I guess ....

@JosephWright I need to rewrite 1000 year old eps DSC comment parsing code to work around dvipdfm bugs features first:-)

1:38 PM
@DavidCarlisle Indeed
@DavidCarlisle Luckily we have a team meeting tomorrow ...

@JosephWright ooh

It's a pain as Gread@eps is in the package not the def and it has the (now) premature optimisation that it quits if finds a bounding box, and MetaPost puts in is creator line after the bounding box... You don't tell dvipdfm that it is metapost output, it just uses the normal psfile= \special but sees the creator line and interprets the PS directly, while not offsetting by the bounding box coordinates. So the macro layer has to know that comment is in the file :(

@DavidCarlisle \input boxedeps.tex

@egreg would that help?

@DavidCarlisle Maybe; don't you remember it?

1:46 PM
@egreg looks vaguely familiar but no, not really.

@DavidCarlisle The first code for including EPS files in a simple way, IIRC

@egreg speaking of odd image inclusion macros have you ever looked at pinlabel?

@DavidCarlisle No. :)

@egreg I hadn't, but there is a question here about it, but I decided not to debug. It loads graphicx then over-rides all the key parsing to be like the original psfig, then changes some other bits.

@DavidCarlisle Interesting
I have to go to the other side of the town for my lecture. See you later.

2:01 PM
@DavidCarlisle Ooops

@JosephWright If it were for me I wouldn't use right-to-left at all. It confuses me. But in this case I was using xetex only to compare the difference with luatex.

@UlrikeFischer :)

2:12 PM
@Sebastiano don't keep changing the question by editing or in comments. If you want to ask about using belleek (which would be a reasonable question) make a small (but complete test file and ask a new question asking how to set it with belleek fonts rather than newtxmath. The only information I could see anywhere on how to do that is lists.dante.de/pipermail/ctan-ann/2001-October/000084.html
‮@UlrikeFischer ?gnisufnoc si tahw

@DavidCarlisle That worked. How did you do it?

@UlrikeFischer your name is written normally so the ping works, the question is written backwards so it can be read in RTL (there is a U+202E in there somewhere:-)

@UlrikeFischer HE IS A WITCH
A very old witch <3

‮@DavidCarlisle !gnisufnoc yrev

@UlrikeFischer ANOTHER WITCH!

2:24 PM
@UlrikeFischer now @PauloCereda is surrounded by confusion

@DavidCarlisle Ducks are very naïve :)

Typing isn't easy with with this setting ;-). I have to use the left arrow to get right and the backspace always deleted the wrong char.

@PauloCereda ☠🦆
@PauloCereda it is not witchcraft you just have to study the source of all Unicode knowledge:
Collaborative editing can quickly become a textual rap battle fought with increasingly convoluted invocations of U+202a to U+202e.

Hello,how to define the chapter here
\documentclass[11pt]{amsart}
\setlength{\unitlength}{1cm}
\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{1cm} \setlength{\textwidth}{15cm}
\renewcommand{\theequation}{\thesection.\arabic{equation}}
\newtheorem{theorem}{Theorem}[section]

\newtheorem{corollary}[theorem]{Corollary}
\newtheorem{definition}[theorem]{Definition}

\begin{document}
please
someone here ?

@Vrouvrou I am not sure, but you are using the wrong class for it. amsart is a class for articles, not books. In order to get a deeper sectioning level, it's highly advisable to use a class that supports it, like book, memoir or KOMA.

@PauloCereda thank you
please how to do to get the numeration of the equation like (1.1)

5:19 PM
@Vrouvrou tex.stackexchange.com/questions/241183/… Someone did it, in case you want to stick with amsart. :)

no i chang it to book
do you know how to make numerotation of equation like (1.1)

@Vrouvrou \numberwithin{equation}{chapter} should do, but that's the default for book anyway

Hi @AlanMunn!

5:47 PM
@ChristianHupfer i have " undefinede control sequence

@Vrouvrou \usepackage{amsmath}

thnk you

6:13 PM
@Vrouvrou if you like amsart and want chapters use amsbook (rather than book)

@ChristianHupfer Ich habe die Frage un-akzeptiert da ich ein MWE erstellen konnte. Bin jetzt aber offline (noch im Büro). Hoffe, dass das alles so passt zwischen uns. Grüße

@Dr.ManuelKuehner Un-akzeptiert klingt aber auch komisch :-)

Good evening to everybody
@DavidCarlisle Meanwhile, I apologize to everyone if I insisted and I insist on my question. Thank you very much in particular @David for your patience towards me.
@DavidCarlisle, @Johannes_B Fonts Times are fine for me but for some type \ partial characters, \ pi, and v I like better than times

6:33 PM
@Sebastiano Have you seen ransom letters in movies? The ones with letters cut out from different papers? You might be lucky and it will look ok, but chances are high you will get a ransom letter if you decide for (possible more) symbols yourself.

6:45 PM
@PauloCereda Hi Paulo (I'm not really here though.)

@AlanMunn ooh a hitech AI linguistic bot

@PauloCereda :)
@PauloCereda pLinguist

@AlanMunn I am going to Madeira in May. I will not resist the temptation of singing Flanders and Swann while in there...
@AlanMunn ooh :)

yo'
6:59 PM
@PauloCereda oh almost Europe :-)

@yo' <3

7:11 PM
@Johannes_B :)

@Dr.ManuelKuehner Paßt ... Wir müssen ja immer einen haben der herumstänkert ;-)

7:28 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner Hallo, Ente ist sehr cool!
I am so good with German. :)

@PauloCereda Ich bin keine Ente, ich bin ein Pinguin.
@PauloCereda Wombats sind die besten.

@Johannes_B ooh señor penguino

@PauloCereda Sí, soy señor pengüino.

@Johannes_B awww <3

@PauloCereda Señor pato! <3

7:40 PM
@Johannes_B awww <3
@Johannes_B: in Portuguese, senhor pengüim e senhor pato.
They got rid of umlauts in Portuguese, but I still use them. :)

@PauloCereda We no speak americano ... wait, portuguese.

@PauloCereda That's a diaereses not an umlaut, surely

@Johannes_B ooh
@JosephWright I don't know the name, sorry. :) You are right.
The diaeresis (UK /daɪˈɪrᵻsᵻs/, US /daɪˈɛrᵻsᵻs/ dy-ERR-i-sis; plural: diaereses), also spelled diæresis or dieresis and also known as the tréma or the umlaut, is a diacritical mark that consists of two dots ( ¨ ) placed over a letter, usually a vowel. When that letter is an i or a j, the diacritic replaces the tittle: ï. The diaeresis and the umlaut are diacritics marking two distinct phonological phenomena. The diaeresis represents the phenomenon also known as diaeresis or hiatus in which a vowel letter is not pronounced as part of a digraph or diphthong. The umlaut (/ˈʊmlaʊt/ UUM-lowt), in contrast...
We know as trema in Portuguese.

@PauloCereda Sure: I just went with the normal English name for the concept

@JosephWright You Europeans have a lot of funny accents. :) We have a few. :)

7:45 PM
@PauloCereda Well in English we don't have any accents: a diaeresis isn't really an accent as-used in English (as it simply marks that two vowels are pronounced), and it's rarely used in English words (where a hyphen will do)
@PauloCereda I bet @AlanMunn knows more about them :)

@JosephWright oh my, this is getting too much complicated for my humble comprehension. :)
@JosephWright What linguists ever done for us?

@PauloCereda stick to latex2e 2017/01/01 PL2 that has no usable accents

@DavidCarlisle Only in TU
@DavidCarlisle Did you see Chris's mail?

@PauloCereda: No quiero comprar esta disco, cualquiera he rasgunado el disco ;-)

@JosephWright not yet will look
@JosephWright we'll manage:-)

7:51 PM
@DavidCarlisle :)
@DavidCarlisle I don't know, I set up a Doodle poll with timezones ...

@JosephWright you would have been useful to verify our post-dinner viewing this evening:-)

@DavidCarlisle I closed that question on colour whatsits 'It's not my fault' :)
@DavidCarlisle My nephew loves these things: he's on 'must learn all the elements'

@JosephWright yes I just saw:-)
@JosephWright got to try to make chemistry interesting somehow

@DavidCarlisle I think it's pretty interesting ;-)

2 hours later…
10:11 PM
@DavidCarlisle Will shall be happy to incorporate such font features in fontspec

@egreg Khaled was floating (somewhere) the idea of an external tool that could make a normal otf instance out of one of these for some specified parameters

@DavidCarlisle Some fun like with big directories with PK files

@egreg yes but on the other hand the tex setup is experienced in generating fonts on demand so it might just work and might be easier than getting variation support into the engines. we'll see..

@DavidCarlisle When there will be real fonts using the feature.

@egreg latin modern math with design size variants back in?

10:22 PM
@DavidCarlisle Ask the Poles

@DavidCarlisle Interesting output with xelatex of texlive16:
Overfull \hbox (19192.91992pt too wide) in paragraph at lines 13--13
\test sum
 []4

@UlrikeFischer bidi character in the box?

@DavidCarlisle No ;-). With miktex (and newer harfbuzz) it is ok. With luatex the default font is usable too.

1 hour later…
11:34 PM
I have to say I found the ad encouraging, nice and friendly :D
I'm glad it made it to the ads for this year! =3
