8:35 AM
Morning @DavidCarlisle

morning:-)

8:55 AM
Can I insert something at the start of logical paragraph in LaTeX?
Basically, I am trying to compensate for penalty inserted by \hypertarget{refs}{} in Pandoc generated LaTeX code:
\hypertarget{refs}{}%
\hypertarget{ref-Atzeni:1982}{}%
Atzeni, Paolo, and D Stott Parker Jr. 1982. ``Assumptions in Relational
Database Theory.'' In \emph{Proceedings of the 1st Acm Sigact-Sigmod
Symposium on Principles of Database Systems}, 1--9. Los Angeles, CA.
This is from Beamer document generated by Pandoc. Together with \widowpenalties 1 10000 and the penalties inserted by the \hypertarget macro, it makes the unbreakable.
What I found was that I could manually add \penalty0 before the first \hypertarget and the break was restored.

@wilx \everypar{hello} perhaps but I don't understand the question,

@DavidCarlisle I am looking for way to fix or work around this issue: github.com/jgm/pandoc/issues/2704

@wilx oh you mean page breaking

@DavidCarlisle Yes.
s/it makes the unbreakable/it makes the page unbreakable/

@wilx Well then patch hypertarget.
\usepackage{xpatch}
\xpretocmd\hypertarget{\penalty0}{}{\fail}

9:10 AM
@UlrikeFischer That does seem to work.

9:22 AM
or better I suspect would be `\leavevmode\hypertarget{refs}{}%
\hypertarget{ref-Atzeni:1982}{}%` so the anchor goes in the paragraph not before it

@DavidCarlisle OMG, magic!
@DavidCarlisle Since this is for Pandoc to generate, would it have any adverse effects if \leavevmode was generated before all \hypertarget?

9:38 AM
@wilx The spacing could change, e.g. before sections. And e.g. \begin{itemize}\hypertarget{c}{} works but with a \leavevmode you get an error.

@UlrikeFischer I see. Well, I guess Pandoc could special case the start of the paragraph and insert it only there.
@UlrikeFischer Does \ifvmode\leavevmode\fi\hypertarget{ref}{} make sense?

9:54 AM
@wilx No.

@UlrikeFischer OK. :)

yo'
Please, what part of speech is "due" (in "due to")? Should I capitalize it in titlecase?

@wilx yes:-)
@wilx no leavevmode does nothing if you are not in vmode/

yo'
10:10 AM
@wilx thanks!

@wilx that is same issue as why \color at start of a paragraph can change the vertical space but \textcolor (which adds \leavevmode) will not. The real fix is to get @JosephWright me and Frank to finish xgalley/xor (perhaps I put the strikeout in the wrong place:-)

10:25 AM
@DavidCarlisle I see. :)

2 hours later…
12:04 PM
@DavidCarlisle Slight delay on Hangouts: not working here!

@JosephWright yes Frank and I are in the google chat thing

12:16 PM
@DavidCarlisle ooh gossip

@PauloCereda We've established that Hangouts is not working with Firefox

@JosephWright Mac?
I use it with Firefox with no issues.

@PauloCereda Windows and Mac, that we know of

@JosephWright Odd. Did you install the plugin?

@PauloCereda I've had a new PC here at work and I can't get the plugin to run
@PauloCereda Yes but can't get past the security thing

12:18 PM
@JosephWright Quite strange. My Mac setup was very straightforward...

1:15 PM
@PauloCereda probably because you have an old firefox:-)

@DavidCarlisle Nope. :)

@PauloCereda I have 54.0

@DavidCarlisle 51.0.1 (64-bit) here. :)

@PauloCereda almost as old as @egreg

1:58 PM
@DavidCarlisle ooh

@egreg I'm sorry, I do not understand your comment on my question (I do not know what is a type block). Isn't the paper size an explicitly optional setting?

2:55 PM
Hello @PauloCereda,

Could you please tell me how to extend this answer http://tex.stackexchange.com/a/147748/2288 to remove extensions like synctex.gz and run.xml?

@DiaaAbidou % arara: remove: { items: [ synctex.gz , run.xml ] }, perhaps?

@PauloCereda unfortunately fails

@DiaaAbidou --log might help, so we can see what's going on.

@DiaaAbidou The command seems to be expanded correctly. The execution stopped at Could Not Find C:\Users\Diaa\Dropbox\Apps\ShareLaTeX\Thesis\ThesisLuaLaTeX.fls.
The other files seem to be removed.
I cannot remember the exit codes of del in Windows. Hang on.

3:29 PM
I don't know why, but it didn't work with me this morning, and now it successfully removed those files.

I am sorry for this interruption.

3:40 PM
@DiaaAbidou oh no worries, it's always good to get feedback! Poke me at any time!

@DavidCarlisle I see we have a LuaJITTeX bug
@DavidCarlisle 'It's not our fault'?

@JosephWright ooh

@PauloCereda latex/4506: tuenc.def file problem with LuajitLaTeX

@JosephWright oh no

3:55 PM

@JosephWright we do (sorry was working:-)
@JosephWright I'd better look:-)

@DavidCarlisle oh no

@JosephWright I can't reproduce the error, but I get curiously with luajitlatex the * fontspec warning: "tu-clash"-warning despite having LaTeX2e <2017/01/01> patch level 3

oh he does, still that is my guess, whatever the log says (since I added an \@empty to guard against that argument being empty in the last patch.)
@JosephWright @UlrikeFischer oh my deleted comment was right, is luajit format is a 2016 Pl3 not 2017 PL3

4:15 PM
@DavidCarlisle @JosephWright: And mine is new but broken because it loads d:/texlive/2016/texmf-dist/tex/cslatex/base/fonttext.cfg instead of d:/texlive/2016/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/fonttext.cfg.

@UlrikeFischer can't we mail the cslatex people and ask them not to do that (or texlive, or both:(
@UlrikeFischer I don't see that as it's masked by a local installation from the svn sources, but we should get it fixed I think:
$ kpsewhich --all fonttext.cfg
/home/davidc/texmf/tex/latex/base/fonttext.cfg
/usr/local/texlive/2016/texmf-dist/tex/cslatex/base/fonttext.cfg
/usr/local/texlive/2016/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/fonttext.cfg

@DavidCarlisle Why wasn't it a problem with xelatex and lualatex? Simply luck or some different search path of lualatex and luajitlatex?

@UlrikeFischer because those formats get built by default
@UlrikeFischer do you want me to mail texlive re fonttext.cfg?

@DavidCarlisle Why should this make a difference for the search pathes?
@DavidCarlisle I can do it.

4:30 PM
@UlrikeFischer oh sorry you meant the fonttext thing, I was still thinking about the tuenc clash. I have no idea. I don't think it is well defined which file you get if there are two of the same name in the same !!// kpsearch tree.

% LuaTeX.
TEXINPUTS.lualatex      = .;$TEXMF/tex/{lualatex,latex,luatex,generic,}//
TEXINPUTS.dvilualatex   = .;$TEXMF/tex/{lualatex,latex,luatex,generic,}//
TEXINPUTS.luatex        = .;$TEXMF/tex/{luatex,plain,generic,}//
TEXINPUTS.luajittex     = .;$TEXMF/tex/{luatex,plain,generic,}//
TEXINPUTS.dviluatex     = .;$TEXMF/tex/{luatex,plain,generic,}//
@DavidCarlisle, @UlrikeFischer ^^^
Notice that lualatex has a separate line but luajitlatex is absent

@JosephWright aha...

U:\Documents\LaTeX\LaTeX3\latex2e-public>kpsewhich -progname luajitlatex fonttext.cfg
c:/texlive/2016/texmf-dist/tex/cslatex/base/fonttext.cfg
U:\Documents\LaTeX\LaTeX3\latex2e-public>kpsewhich -progname lualatex fonttext.cfg
c:/texlive/2016/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/fonttext.cfg
@DavidCarlisle Indeed: LuaJITTeX is a bit 'odd' at present

@JosephWright thanks adding a suitable entry to texmf.cnf helped.

4:49 PM
Staying up to 2am on a work night is…bad bad bad.

@PauloCereda of course it doesn't help if your so called friends keep you up late to join a teleconference at a convenient European lunchtime.

@DavidCarlisle :)

@DavidCarlisle Exactly! :)

@DavidCarlisle There's a reason I went for 12 not 1!
@DavidCarlisle At least he got the right day

@JosephWright the 9am option is usually Ok for me as well if we wanted a different regular time

4:55 PM
@UlrikeFischer I see you've raised this on the list
@DavidCarlisle Would be OK for me too: I'll put that down on the Doodle poll (this evening)

@JosephWright I can't do 10, and 8 I'm usually literally getting going out the door, but that is a possibility as well.

@JosephWright Even if the cnf doesn't get changed for a reason, it is imho useful to have the problem described somewhere.

5:53 PM
@CarLaTeX could Professore van Duck sent me a "happy birthday" greeting for my husband?

@UlrikeFischer oooh

@PauloCereda My husband likes ducks (in all forms ...) and was also involved in naming the professore ...

@UlrikeFischer yay!

6:26 PM
@UlrikeFischer: a generic duck just poke you. :)

@UlrikeFischer Surely! Professor van Duck loves who loves ducks, your husband will receive a photo-message soon!

1 hour later…
7:40 PM

@PauloCereda Got it ;-) Thanks.

@UlrikeFischer :)

@PauloCereda Sorry for the late reply -- your German really seems to be not too bad :).

@Dr.ManuelKuehner It is, believe me. :)

@PauloCereda Maybe I can test it for myself someday :). Say "hello" when you are near Stuttgart.

7:53 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner Sure! I know important sentences, like Ein Bier, bitte!

@PauloCereda That's enough to make friends.

@Dr.ManuelKuehner :)

@UlrikeFischer ^^^

@CarLaTeX ;-))))))))

@UlrikeFischer Show it to your husband :):):):):):

8:04 PM
@CarLaTeX Not today. The birthday is on saturday. But I will take it with me (I made a printout)

@UlrikeFischer Yayyyy!

@CarLaTeX YAY

@PauloCereda Have you seen the little rubber duck?

8:35 PM
@PauloCereda you need more phrases than that, this for example: Eine Pizza mit Ananas bitte.

8:47 PM
@samcarter I will go offline soon. Thanks for the help so far.
@samcarter If you provide an answer then I could upvote you -- maybe better than a comment.

@Dr.ManuelKuehner I would rather go with voting as duplicate of tex.stackexchange.com/questions/59974/… What do you think?

@samcarter Seems pretty similar. I just opened an issue on GitHub. I'll wait if there is a response. If not then I could close the question.

9:02 PM
@DavidCarlisle Mir knurrt schön der Magen!

@CarLaTeX a bit of ham and tomato ketchup as well and it'll be fine

@DavidCarlisle Nahrung Höhlenmenschen

@DavidCarlisle educationally harmful video

@CarLaTeX @egreg can show it to his students tomorrow. Be better than stupid football flags.

9:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle @egreg will never do such a thing; it'd ruin his reputation!

@CarLaTeX you can't lose what you haven't got.

@DavidCarlisle He has got it, I have evidence ^^^^

@CarLaTeX "fake news" is everywhere these days, so I am reliably informed.

@DavidCarlisle What are your sources?

@CarLaTeX some bloke on TV quite a bit recently.

9:48 PM
@DavidCarlisle Have they talked about @egreg on TV?

hello people, I found this: newphysician.com/pdf/sample_cv2.pdf online, it looks like it's been made with latex but I can't find the template they used, it looks like: rpi.edu/dept/arc/training/latex/resumes but not quite

@devster The PDF says it has been created with Word.
> pdfinfo ~/Desktop/sample_cv2.pdf
Title:          Microsoft Word - sample_resume2.doc
Author:         doumasj
Creator:        PScript5.dll Version 5.2
Producer:       Acrobat Distiller 5.0.5 (Windows)

nice tool, didn't know about that, thank you

10:08 PM
@devster many pdf readers (acrobat, firefox pdf.js etc) have the same information in the "document/properties" menu
