@StefanKottwitz: It's that time of year again... should we post something on TeX - LaTeX Meta?
@JosephWright: ^^

7 hours later…
6:55 AM
@Werner It's a post of 2015. It may be posted on the SO blog again in 6-7 weeks. Why post on meta now?

7:51 AM
@StefanKottwitz That blog entry seems to follow after charities have been awarded. I was merely thinking about bringing attention to the procedure before it is awarded.
Yes, surely a 2016 blog entry will follow.

Hallo everybody! I think this user: http://tex.stackexchange.com/users/116971/vaman would like to win the "maglia nera" (= the black t-shirt, symbol of the last ranked in the cycling competition of the Tour of Italy), see his last answer:
http://tex.stackexchange.com/a/337100/101651 and his history. I was serial upvoted a couple of days ago, maybe it was him, trying to thank me for having edited a post of his, which made him earn 20 reputation point...

@CarLaTeX I counted 20 downvotes on his/her reputation page. Indeed, “low quality” doesn't apply to his/her answers.

@egreg Hallo egreg! Aren't downvotes subtracted from his reputation? Why?

9:20 AM
@CarLaTeX Yes. but there are also upvotes

@egreg Ha, OK, you mean to close his answer because of their "low quality", sorry I haven't understood at once...

9:43 AM
@egreg I'm still not fully skilled at TEX.SE language...

3 hours later…
1:12 PM
@DavidCarlisle, ^^^^ I see you are very close to crack that golden badge huh..

yo'
1:27 PM
@DavidCarlisle Is there any plan to include something like baseline as an option to \includegraphics or should one simply stick to \raisebox? (Or have I missed something...?)

yo'
2:08 PM
gotta love when the graphical manual specify which font to use, but does not say which font is used for the logos... :-/

@GuilhermeZ.Santos it will be well deserved once awarded, don't you think?

David CarlisleTwo years ago I provided an image that some people commented looked too smiley, so here is the new improved 2016 version with a fierce scary growl. \documentclass{article} \usepackage{color} \usepackage{pict2e} \pagecolor[RGB]{255,177,69} \begin{document} \begin{picture}(120,200) \thicklines ...

@yo' adjustbox

@DavidCarlisle upvoted. :)

yo'
@PauloCereda he needs teh ansewrz, not teh votez

2:27 PM
@DavidCarlisle questionable... In terms of and totally well deserved! Now, in terms of ... hahaha

yo'
@DavidCarlisle too sophisticated; raisebox worked well ;-)

@GuilhermeZ.Santos there are a few bits of tikz/pgf tex.stackexchange.com/questions/336878/…

2:51 PM
@DavidCarlisle o.O

@DavidCarlisle: I added an answer too. :)

@DavidCarlisle, ^^^^ my reaction after looking at your answer, and the other one

@GuilhermeZ.Santos did you notice that I'm luring some people away from tikz
+1 for using the tex based graphics language! — David Carlisle 17 hours ago

@DavidCarlisle luring away from the light and into the darkness... ahhaha

3:56 PM
@GuilhermeZ.Santos I'm sure you will appreciate the detailed knowledge displayed in my last answer.
Now I can close all those tikz questions, clear the way for picture mode

4:48 PM
@DavidCarlisle So late!

@egreg but getting the badge for a \loop answer is quite appropriate I think

@DavidCarlisle :)
@DavidCarlisle I'm tempted to remove the tag

@egreg too late I have the badge anyway (don't I?)

@DavidCarlisle No. :P

@egreg boo then most of my tikz points are in jeopardy:(

4:58 PM
@DavidCarlisle my god, we're doomed

5:31 PM
@egreg (anyone) should I remove my close vote on this, it seemed pretty identical to me (and still not sure how I'd answer the questions differently) but OP pushing back

Q: Where does the space before \align* come from?

ClémentIn the following MWE, what is responsible for the large space before the align environment? How can I remove it (it doesn't appear if I change to \[ \] and remove amsmath) ? \documentclass{article} \usepackage[english]{babel} \usepackage{amsmath,amssymb} \usepackage{lipsum} \begin{document} \s...

@DavidCarlisle The other one was answered with a guess.

@egreg true I guessed the issue there but this question is clearer and clearly the same issue:-) (but I'm going to remove the gold hammer vote I think)

@DavidCarlisle Already hammer reopened.
@DavidCarlisle I have got many more gold badges than you have. :P

@egreg stolen ticks....
@egreg so are you going to answer it as well?

2 hours later…
7:16 PM
Can we reopen tex.stackexchange.com/questions/301640? I have an answer ready. (@egreg, @UlrikeFischer)

7:57 PM
@TorbjørnT. voted:-)

8:33 PM
@TorbjørnT. Voted

8:56 PM
@egreg Aren't you watching "Le nozze di Figaro" on RAI5?

9:12 PM
@CarLaTeX his Italian's not good enough to follow along.

9:39 PM
@CarLaTeX I saw the first act; there was Juve to see.

@DavidCarlisle hahaha ... and nevertheless he is top user also of Italian Language StackExchange!
@egreg I've forgotten the "mercoledì di coppa"!

@CarLaTeX The Contessa is now singing her famous aria.

9:56 PM
@egreg I'm not a "melomane", I went a few times to La Scala but never to see the opera.

@CarLaTeX Neither am I, in the usual sense of lover of 19th century opera. There's more music in the first act of Le Nozze than in the whole production of Donizetti.

@egreg The only things I know about classical music are the ones the daughter of my cousin tells me, she has a degree in musicology!

@CarLaTeX well I've got a gold badge and I hope his italian is better than my tikz:-)

@DavidCarlisle Congratulations! :-)

10:14 PM
OK, here is a question: What are the [1][2][3] and so on that appear after every figure when my document is compiling?

@Canageek on the terminal? they are page shipout indication

@DavidCarlisle Yes, on the terminal. What does that mean, and why is it only appearing after figures? Is that 'this page is done now'?

@Canageek unrelated to figures, it outputs the values of \count0...\count9 every time a page is written to the dvi or pdf file.

@DavidCarlisle Ah

@Canageek try
a

\break

\count0=20

b

\bye
produces
 [1{/usr/lo
cal/texlive/2016/texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map}] [20]

10:21 PM
@CarLaTeX “Aprite un po' quegli occhi”. ;-)

which shows tex started to ship out page 1 [1 then needed to input a map file, then finished page 1 ] then shipped out page 20 [20]

@DavidCarlisle Ah, I see

10:48 PM
@egreg ok, my ignorance is total! Hahaha

11:08 PM
The labelcas package (ctan.org/pkg/labelcas) has been marked obsolete sometime before the release of TL 2016. Is there a successor package?

11:26 PM
@MikeRenfro not sure what ctan obsolete means, whether there is a specified replacement or (as i suspect here) just that there is no maintainer.

@egreg I didn't know it. However we (women) are not so bad, at least not all of us :)

@CarLaTeX I trust Figaro. :P

Right. I don't think it's in TL any more, regardless. It's a dependency of my thesis class somewhere (I think, I know I saw it throw a missing package on 2016, but I can't find a reference to it in my .cls file).

@MikeRenfro should be obvious if the document depends on it tex just stops for a missing file?

@egreg A pensar male si fa peccato, ma spesso si indovina (cit.)

11:37 PM
Right. I don't have 2016 where I'm at right now, so while I'm installing, figured I'd ask if there was a mailing list announcement or something else I'd missed when searching.
I do remember a student getting a missing file error like that for labelcas.sty last week, but since I can't find it directly in my code, will have to test it in person.

@MikeRenfro just looked I don't have it in my tl2016. Of course it's easy enough to get it from ctan if you need it

It'll either be include it in my downloads or work around it, yep.
