@FarZin I meant both: CMR is reasonably narrow, with reasonably narrow strokes and with a perfect legibility. You can go beyond the size of CMR, but you necessarily start losing legibility. I'd say CMR at 9pt is better than TNR at 10pt

From a purely typographical perspective, I'd agree.

@FarZin Which makes TNR a good font only if "12pt size, 6 pages max" is the case. But even than I think some narrow fonts would win over it.

the 12 pt size is arbitrary as fonts associate different sizes with 12 pt. (if i understand correctly)
TNR is good also, for the reasons I mentioned above, people are familiar with it, people can make good judgements on document length, it saves space without looking (too) narrow.
Also, 2 other reasons I hadn't mentioned: If a prof wants all his students to submit a paper in a particular font, he might require TMR, as there is likely very few students have CMU Serif on their systems, and virtually every students have Times New Roman. If someone is running an OCR app on a computer without CMU Serif, it might encounter more errors compared to TMR, although, that's purely speculation.

12:22 AM
@FarZin that all are, however, bad reasons. Just because my prof says that shit tastes good, I'm not gonna eat it.

Say you were an instructor, you want all their papers to be in a single font (so your not switching between fonts when reading). It wouldn't be wise to choose CMU Serif as very few have that installed.
that's all i mean

Is there a keywords package that allows you to label words throughout your document and print them (in alphabetical order) at a desired area in your document. Something like this:

**where the code the code:**
Lorem ipsum \keyword{dolor} sit amet, \keyword{consectetur} adipiscing \keyword{elit}.

keywords: \makekeywords

**would print:**
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing eli.

keywords: consectetur, dolor elit.

This is regarding a question posted today. If you know the answer, of course you can answer yourself: http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/167538/semantic-indicat

@FrankMittelbach imakeidx is better. ;-)

@egreg I wouldn't doubt that ... didn't have any occasion to do indexing for a while

@FrankMittelbach TLC3. :)

@JosephWright I could do a review: It's brilliant: buy it now, send extra donations to the authors! vim not mentioned!
Except of course for the vim part. :)
Cool, @Herbert is here! Hallo! :)
(I'm trying to learn German, but it's very difficult for me)

@David: I saw an answer of yours in which you solve a problem without even having the package installed. :)

@PauloCereda You mean the one where I googled for the words in the question and copied down what it said?

@DavidCarlisle Probably. :)

@PauloCereda ! This can't happen
I got this message once.

@egreg But you are beyond good and evil. :)
When you, David, Frank, Heiko or other TeX wizard writes a failing code, the engine apologizes. :)
Q: Can egreg ask a question that even egreg can't answer?
A: Yes. And he can answer it, too.
@egreg: ^^ :)

Does siunitx have a manual? — David Carlisle 12 secs ago
@JosephWright ^^

@PauloCereda Did you try beer.latex3.net ?

@StefanKottwitz I love you, man! :)

@DavidCarlisle Ah, so I was missing the irony...

@PauloCereda Don't forget to zoom in. :-P Oh, I get thirsty.

@StefanKottwitz :)

3:09 PM
@Jörg well don't tell Joseph, but I'm not sure I have seen the siunitx manual:-)
@StefanKottwitz wrong sort of beer for Frank, I think.

@DavidCarlisle he can have his own on beer.latex3.org

@StefanKottwitz :-)

3:43 PM
@DavidCarlisle I seem to miss out the joke

@FrankMittelbach stefan's beer picture above, I thought you may prefer a darker beer (if I recall correctly)

@DavidCarlisle like both sorts ... but what I was wondering is why a page with this address and that picture?

@FrankMittelbach @PauloCereda was getting thirsty (see the log a few lines up)

all fine, but why does somebody put up such a picture under that url???? @StefanKottwitz any idea?

@FrankMittelbach latex3,net appears to be an alias of Stefan's for latex-community.org ?

3:51 PM
@FrankMittelbach Just for a minute fun with Paulo, the (free) image is already deleted and the subdomain gone.

@StefanKottwitz so you hold onto latex3.net?

@FrankMittelbach As a fan, yes! Since some weeks or so, since it has been let free. With the idea to put some thoughts on it online together with feeds such as from the LaTeX-Communty site and TeX.SE, like bringing together some sources.
@FrankMittelbach Registered also pgfplots.net , and made a gallery there. Just to tell, that I'll make good use of sites.
@FrankMittelbach registered pstricks.net for a PSTricks gallery, coming soon

@StefanKottwitz to be honest I would like to get that at some point now that L3 is getting tractions but I don't mind at all doing joint efforts on filling content

4:07 PM
@FrankMittelbach I don't cling to it :-) it's just nice to have a good house number even for a small web site, and not so very much important to have all aliases one can think of link to the same main site perhaps

5:04 PM
Das bier ist gone. :(

@FrankMittelbach Oh. :(

Does anyone have a working solution for this?

Q: How can I get page numbers to link to the table of contents in latex?

qazI've seen a pdf LaTeX document where the page numbers at the bottom of the page are hyperref links, and clicking them causes you to jump to the contents table. I don't have the tex file and couldn't work out how it's done from the hyperref package. Can anyone help?

Feb 26 at 11:25, by David Carlisle
@PauloCereda It can't be right: it has as many words as the English version, surely you can miss out some of those spaces.
@LordStryker It presumably wouldn't be that hard (basically backref for page numbers but hm why:-)

Hello, everybody!

5:18 PM
@DavidCarlisle I'll take a look at backref

@tohecz You missed the beer

@DavidCarlisle depending on what beer, I very likely didn't miss much :D

@tohecz scroll up to see @PauloCereda practicing his German

@DavidCarlisle Ja ja!

@tohecz in Portuguese means either now or already. :)

Q: Put a {forest} tree inside a {philex} enviromnent

BonyHoaxI use the forestpackage to draw linguistic trees, and the linguexpackage to create numeric examples. But there seems to be a problem when I combine the two. The tree is not aligned with the number of the example (the XP should be aligned with (1)). \documentclass{article} \usepackage{forest} \us...

@egreg Wow. :(

!!/battle
Where's Psmith when one needs him? :P

6:03 PM
@egreg how?

6:28 PM
@FrankMittelbach Probably a memory problem with the machine, it was a Macintosh Plus with 1MB RAM running OzTeX. Possibly a memory clobbering.
@FrankMittelbach Then I bought 2MB RAM, at 2.5MB the machine never had problems.
It was back in 1987 or 1988, OzTeX was at its beginnings.

@egreg interesting. I know that there is supposed to be one way to generate a this can't happen error, but I guess that isn't the one then
@egreg probably then rather a faulty implementation of the engine

@FrankMittelbach I couldn't reproduce it. But I'm pretty sure memory constraints were involved.

I can't stop laughing for no reason
who would bother to do this ?

10:25 PM
@PauloCereda Is Psmith awake?

@percusse even stranger, who'd post it to a typesetting forum?
@egreg wanting the 20-20 cricket news?

@PauloCereda let Psmith sleep, don't pander to @egreg

@DavidCarlisle :-)

This is Psmith's secretary, answering while he's sleeping: what battle did you ask for? There's no battle, today. ;-)

10:51 PM
@egreg just lots of missing % I assume

@DavidCarlisle Yes, of course. ;-)

11:10 PM
@DavidCarlisle You remove *, instead. :P

@egreg a far more technical activity, I'm sure you will agree.

@DavidCarlisle Yes, you have to remove it in two places and also remember to delete the argument. One needs fine skills.

@egreg I knew you'd see it that way.

@DavidCarlisle Unfortunately I'm out of votes.

@egreg I'm rep capped anyway (at a perfectly respectable 200, I don't approve of flashy attempts to double that:)

11:15 PM
@DavidCarlisle A few green ticks from old answers.
And a couple of stolen ones.

@egreg quite an impressive total anyway (joking aside)
@egreg not from me I hope

@DavidCarlisle Unfortunately not.

:-)
@egreg How high have you got (without bounties) any more than that?

@DavidCarlisle I don't remember as high as today.

@egreg I'll wake him now, hold on. :)

11:24 PM
@PauloCereda No!!!

@PauloCereda Are you able to make a query for the highest rep in a day?

@egreg I can make it work. :)
!!/battle
@PauloCereda Psmith, the TeX bot: The current score is egreg 410 vs. 215 David. So far, egreg is winning.
Holy cow!

@PauloCereda so now you see why he wanted Psimith here

@DavidCarlisle :)

@DavidCarlisle :)

@PauloCereda It's seriously tricky problem I think, btw
