Dan
8:14 PM
What does this mean?
I think I've seen it when I forget a & in a table or a \\ at the end of a row
but I can't find any instances of that

PSK
Hello lads and lassies
I have a question to ask

@PSK Woof.
@Dan You have more & than the column number given in tabular{cc..} or array

PSK
I have asked a question some time ago here:
5
Q: Can I make this table fit in portrait mode?

PSKI have a table which I want to make fit in portrait mode. Do you think this is possible? Here is the minimal example: \documentclass[11pt,a4paper]{book} \usepackage[utf8x]{inputenc} \usepackage{ucs} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{makeidx} \usepackage...

Now I figure out something that I do not like with threeparttable
and this is related to the indentation notes
at the very end.
I want the notes to have the same indentation as the words in column 1. Is there any way to fix that?

@PSK Why not asking another question?

Dan
@percusse I must be blind - I can't find it :/
@percusse does it give a line number anywhere?

8:25 PM
@Dan My crystal ball is out of warranty. TeX errors are not very informative

PSK
@percusse I think it is not a good idea, because it's related with the same topic. Maybe it will be a burden for some people, what do you reckon?

Dan
@percusse I did find one instance of it, I fixed it but still getting the error
@percusse any reason why it might not realize I fixed the issue?

@PSK That idea is the main reason why we hang out here. People ask 56 different questions until they get the idea or reach the ultimate goal.
@Dan TeX errors can originate from irrelevant problems too. You need to localize and make a MWE out of it .

PSK
OK, I will ask that specific question then.

@PSK This is not Stackoverflow. We like follow-ups
In case that was your hesitation

Dan
8:29 PM
@percusse it seems to be an issue with the entire section, I removed the table and still have the error

@Dan Welcome to the club :)

Dan
@percusse gahh!! I found the problem
Always right under my nose

@Dan That's the power of a MWE right there :)

Dan
@percusse yes but I suspect an MWE would not have helped in this instance ;)
@percusse working now tho - thanks
although TeX now seems to be taking much longer and getting stuck
oh well, still working

@Dan Then it's probbaly not fixed and in a neverending loop

Dan
8:33 PM
@percusse no just sticking at certain spots longer

@Dan Ah that can happen too.

@PauloCereda I posted something but did 1-n rather than n-m (as it's easier)

I am having a small problem. For some reason the texlive manager on my comp is not running
this is texlive2013 windows 7

@azetina does it moan abut "" Quick Start

@DavidCarlisle what do u mean

8:42 PM
Wow, no \divide in your prime answer... I don't understand.

@azetina they added pythontex and broke tlmgr the other day you have to remove some spurious quotes,

@DavidCarlisle How can i do it?

@Werner ask Eratosthenes
@azetina hang on I'll find a link

@DavidCarlisle Has this been asked in TX.Sx

Q: Sieve of Eratosthenes in tikz

azetinaI am writing notes for my students under the topic of prime factorization and I needed to illustrate the Sieve of Eratosthenes and this is what I came up with in tikz: \documentclass{article} \usepackage{tikz} \begin{document} \begin{tikzpicture}[scale=0.65] \draw[very thick,red] (3,9)--(4,10); ...

A: TeX Live Manager crashes with "Unknown docfile tag"

Takeshi NagaeHere is my solution for Mac OS X: cd /usr/local/texlive/2013/tlpkg/TeXLive/ mv TLPOBJ.pm TLPOBJ-31644.pm curl http://tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/tlpkg/TeXLive/TLPOBJ.pm?view=co -o TLPOBJ.pm Then you can run: sudo tlmgr update Note that it would be better to delete unnecessary backup fi...

@Werner too much tikz there, so I wrote it from first principles (but there is a link to that in the first comment)

@DavidCarlisle Very nice though.
@DavidCarlisle That's also why you slowly creep up the leader board. Slowly and consistently... and tikz-free.

@Werner I've got a silver tikz badge

@DavidCarlisle Yes, truly bizarre. Some StackExchange glitch...

@Werner Surely you mean my total mastery of tikz^H^H^H^Hpicture mode

@DavidCarlisle Riiiiiiiight.

9:02 PM
@DavidCarlisle Thanks so much.

9:35 PM
@AndreaL. that algorithm is somewhat older than me:-) — David Carlisle 5 mins ago
Older than I, too.

@egreg didn't feel I should take credit for the algorithm : -)

9:58 PM
@egreg Today somebody talked to us about Veneto phonology and its relationship to issues in the history of the Romance languages.

@AlanMunn Which part of Veneto? ;-) Did they say we have no "ts" and use "s" for it, but some zones have "θ"?

@egreg Yes, we talked a lot about exactly that fact.
Actually I think you get all three possibilities: ts, s and θ no? (Depending on the area.)

@AlanMunn Well, ts can be heard only in the southern part, probably influenced by dialects of Emilia. In Rovigo five is "tsinkwe", but above the Adige river it's surely "sinkwe" and in the mountains it can be "θinkwe".

@egreg You might like this:

10:17 PM
@AlanMunn My Internet connection is rather flaky; what I can gather from the first seconds is that the guy talking is from Verona. The "pearà" on the T-shirt reveals it too.

@egreg But the second guy comes in to explain the alphabet. Are they speaking differently?

@AlanMunn Not much. Hear how they make a sounding "l", which is typical from Western Veneto.
@AlanMunn The "pearà" is a sauce that accompanies boiled meat, typical from Verona.

@egreg I was just googling that now. :)

@AlanMunn: iOS7 already?

@egreg And having lived with a Venetian for a year during grad school I quickly learned that Vialone Nano is the best risotto rice.
@PauloCereda No. I'm generally a late adopter of OS versions.

10:29 PM
@AlanMunn I know. :) I had a bad time trying to convince you to migrate to ML. :) I highly recommend iOS7. :)

@AlanMunn Of course! The zone south of Adige in the province of Verona has the best rice in Italy.
Whatever the Piedmontese say.

@DavidCarlisle: I should give you a bounty for the prime thingy answer. :)

@egreg It's not easy to get in Michgan. I usually bring it in from Toronto, and even there you have to hunt for it. Carnaroli is also good, and a bit easier to get.

@percusse: sir, we need to make Jake reach 100k by tomorrow. :)

@PauloCereda What do you like about it?
@PauloCereda /until/by/

10:32 PM
@AlanMunn Done. :)
@AlanMunn I like the colour scheme and the new notification center. Now it has everything integrated. :)

@PauloCereda What do you mean by everything integrated?

@PauloCereda I only got 2 left. Spent towards more badges with dangling 9s :)
Problem is I voted almost always his stuff :)
And read this before the PhD adventure

@AlanMunn The notification center has all messages from apps (mentions, emails, calendar, agenda, weather, etc), and there's also a quick panel for turning on/off wifi, bluetooth, etc.
@percusse :)
@percusse Oh my! :)

@PauloCereda I see. That's useful. I had that on my Android phone and like it.

@AlanMunn I've managed to see a longer part of that clip; it's mostly propaganda. And no serious linguistic study is behind that. The question of "x" is ridiculous; in most European languages the sound is written "z", I see no reason for using the letter "x" except historical. But the use of "x" for "z" even in written venetian language was rare and circumscribed. The fact is that there is no koiné and there will never be.

10:39 PM
@AlanMunn Yep, it's very similar to the Android one! But it seems slightly more useful (there's a lot of space available for more detailed info). :)
@Alan: in other news, I had to read a paper on claiming CS to be the fourth pillar of the great science domains. Somewhere in the text, they made some caustic jokes about linguistics. :(

@egreg Unless the video goes viral. :)
@PauloCereda Link?

@AlanMunn Gimme a minute. :)

@AlanMunn Impossible; they're from Verona, people in Padova would laugh from the first word: "butei" is "tozi" for us (English "kids"). ;-)

@AlanMunn We have "putin" (child), "puteleto", "putelo", "tozato" and "tozo" for the various ages.

10:48 PM
@PauloCereda LTDR (Lacks TeX;Didn't read)

@AlanMunn But "na bela putela" can be in her teens

@percusse EXACTLY! It gave me shivers. I cannot concentrate.

@egreg One of the comments on the video is "thinqueeeee" :)

@AlanMunn Somebody from Cadore, probably.

10:54 PM
@PauloCereda This is an awful paper.

@AlanMunn It is. In many aspects.

@PauloCereda It certainly has no understanding of most of the fields it caricatures as not being science.

@AlanMunn Exactly. And not to mention the heresy when talking about TCS. :)
