and bananas are a great source of potassium.

he is your cousin :0

well it seems you know him from your theory

i think if muslims did a bit more of the carbon dating and a bit less of the carbon arranged marriages, thered be less stress for everyone involved
i think your imagination is running a bit wild there casanova

How come not all monkeys became humans though?

because that's not how evolution works.

12:01 AM
some liked bananas too much

HAHA

if you're born a monkey, you'll die a monkey.

but you'll left something to your son

you don't just...change into a human. we're not pokemon.

a new features

12:02 AM
hahahahahaa

casanova, if youre interested, you can look into that, theres qualified biologists on youtube explaining it nicely, dawkins does a lot of great explanations

ok

in order to understand you'll have to listen though

dont forget to watch that series too
and LISTEN*

dawkinz .. well i don't think u'll like him casanova :D

12:03 AM
LOL yeah

but hes not talking about anything worthwhile

his way of talking :)

its not like "muslims go to paradise and everyone else to hell" is hard to understand
dont need half an hour for that

no he doesnt say that

@goldPseudo you should other preadamic believs

12:04 AM
oh gosh if you would only listen!

it's funny sometimes
@G.Bach you have the same way as him

well what does he talk about

sometimes :P

WATCH

can you just summarize it
im not watching half an hour of random rambling

12:05 AM
It is only 20 min

i dont care, im not gonna invest that time in random videos
just say what he talks about, thatll take a lot less time than arguing why you wont

ok nevermind

do you have 1 minute to tell me why you want me to watch it, what you think i'll get out of it

@goldPseudo are u a linux user ?

if you expect me to invest 20+ minutes to listen to a guy whose babble i cant stand

12:07 AM
@MustaphaElbazi ostensibly. i have slack running my minecraft server, but i use windows for my day-to-day.

i don't know what is those games serevers are
i know normal servers

and i manage a mix of linux/unix/windows systems at work.

but why we need game servers !?

well, i need something to serve my minecraft world otherwise it's hard to play minecraft on it :/

doesn't Gregor Mendel’s set of laws of inheritance outweigh Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution?

12:09 AM
it's just a regular server running a minecraft daemon.

mendel makes total sense

casanova, science isnt a game of "i got more authority than you"

so why don't call iit just another PC . or it's online ?

its a process of evaluating data about the world methodically and designed to correct for errors and biases and misreadings

ok

12:10 AM
@MustaphaElbazi because it's not just another PC. it's a server.

a server is just a program that offers a service, mustapha

Dell PowerEdge T110 II
i bought it pretty much exclusively to act as a server. so i call it a server.

okey . i got it

i also have apache running but don't really do much with it.

this is looking powerfull :D

12:12 AM
ironically, it doesn't host my plex server right now. i may change that in the future but i'm lazy.

do you build mosques there ?

not typically.

my last big project was a giant ink farm. took way longer than i thought it would.
but now i have an infinite supply of ink.
which i never use for anything, so it's not like i really needed the farm.
that's just how i roll.

i havn't ever play this :)

12:14 AM
Goodnight guys, it is very late here lol

i don't know if this is a wrong qst or not
but are male or female @Casanova ?

Giacomo Girolamo Casanova (Italian pronunciation: [ˈdʒaːkomo dʒiˈrɔːlamo kazaˈnɔːva] or [kasaˈnɔːva]; 2 April 1725 – 4 June 1798) was an Italian adventurer and author from the Republic of Venice. His autobiography, Histoire de ma vie (Story of My Life), is regarded as one of the most authentic sources of the customs and norms of European social life during the 18th century. As was not uncommon at the time, Casanova, depending on circumstances, used more or less fictitious names, such as baron or count of Farussi (the name of his mother) or Chevalier de Seingalt (pronounced Saint-Galle, as in French...
he was pretty male, and he didnt even carbon date, he carbon-affaired

hahahaha I am a male

from russia : P

and bach read this islamqa.info/en/126913 hahaha

@goldPseudo do u think that researching in arduino/raspberry/openCV with cameras
is a good thing now

12:18 AM
haven't really looked into it.

or just the classical path in programming ?

@Casanova listen mate, you cant give me reading assignments without me asking for them and without telling me why i should care

i'm more a software guy than a hardware guy.

image analysis is considered software

that is a true statement.

12:20 AM
it's a big part of raspberry projects
moving the robot is easy comparing
to analysis images
so why do u thing about
image analysis ?
in general
i am planning to start it without going no-further in java/android right now ?

not really a field i've looked into much.

okey :)
your top answer in stackoverflow was about images : P

really? i thought it was the one about C++ headers.
i don't recall ever writing an answer about images. :/

i will cheak this

i mostly work with text.

12:30 AM
where did i see this :P
bad memory

might have been mine

A: Java library to compare image similarity

G. BachYou could take a look at two answers on SO itself: this one is about image comparison itself, offering links to stuff in C++ (if I read correctly) while this one offers links to broader approaches, one being in C. I would suggest starting with the second link since there's links on that discussi...

is this what you remember

i just googled that stuff, i know nothing about it

so what do u thing ?
what stuff ?

im going to bed now : P

12:33 AM
i tried to become like @goldPseudo last month and minimize my sleep hours
i just ruined everything :D
i didn't wake for fajr for a week because of that

contrary to popular belief, i actually do sleep.

hhhhh
you should say this next time :D

roughly eight hours a night like a real person.
sometimes i'll even sneak in some sleep at work when nobody's looking.

this is haram :P
hhh
well i used to sleep less than 8
but i wanted more and i get into troubles
not i sleep more than 8
in wrong times

Q: How can we blockquote Arabic on mobile?

ArmaanWhen I want to edit a question or answer to blockquote, I cannot blockquote the Arabic verses and hadith. Is there a way on a mobile phone to blockquote the Arabic?

Q: How is it effecting us as a community when 90% of the answers are refering to one source (islamqa.info)?

KiliseMost of the answers in islam.SE are based on references from islamqa.info, almost always being just a copy-paste answer. I've made an analys of the links used in the questions and answers and I found out that the majority links are linking to islamqa.info. Being a member in this community, I've ...

My question got two downvotes. Gee, it's so hard to predict which questions will be well received. *shrugs* islam.stackexchange.com/q/39766/17163 I thought it was okay.

3:37 PM
i think the downvotes are weird too, i dont think its an interesting question but no less on-topic than Is it permissible to steal in a game

4:28 PM
@RebeccaJ.Stones Should this chat be about Islam SE or food that's 'Nom nom nom'?

4:52 PM
@Armaan What's fair game in a chat room is somewhat up to the community to decide. Users bonding with one another (even in off-topic ways) can help the community work together. And purpose-specific chat rooms can be created when the scope needs limiting.

5:03 PM
I agree with @RebeccaJ.Stones. This chat should not only be about Islam.

5:30 PM
@G.Bach I'm surprised with your knowledge of Islam being a non-muslim, Muslims that I know that were born non-Muslims don't even know stuff you ask about. Same with you @RebeccaJ.Stones. Being a Muslim convert, you know more stuff about Islam in around a year than people who have been Muslims for over 20 years.

That is true!

Zeal of the convert (: Hahaha, we're like sponges.
Or, maybe more cynically, it's a kind of defence mechanism. People can be a bit patronising since I'm new, so indicating some non-trivial knowledge of Islam can help overcome this without being too rude.
Also, people like to "instruct" me, and it's helpful to know what's Islam and what's their personal opinion, or just some localized thing.

5:49 PM
i've been Muslim for most of my life, and trust me that doesn't go away. People still insist in "instructing" me.

@RebeccaJ.Stones it's a rolling average of the past 2 weeks

It's a rocking and a roll'n' average, if you ask me. (:
(*giggles* maybe that sounds a lot funnier to me than anyone else)

I had a well-intentioned older gentleman from the masjid offering me a pamphlet on how to wudhu not too long ago. Despite the fact that I've been praying at the masjid for over a decade at that point.
(and at other masajid for maybe a decade longer than that)

Ah well... I guess that's what I'm in for in the future (:

can you read and write arabic @goldPseudo?

5:54 PM
@Casanova i can read the script, but don't necessarily understand the words.

@RebeccaJ.Stones we're not that naïve

i can pick up bits and pieces of vocabulary.

ah ok

Is anyone a fan of Arabic poetry here?

also me reading without tashkeel is still more guesswork than proper Arabic pronunciation.
but i'm getting better at that.

5:56 PM
@goldPseudo even Arabs struggle with that

yes

ideally, i want to learn how to read with only rasm. but that's still a ways away in the future.

@goldPseudo Do people recognize you as Muslim in everyday life? (Feel free to not answer if it's too personal.)

have you memorized any surah in the quran?

@RebeccaJ.Stones well, people who know me do. but strangers don't jump to "Big white guy w/o beard = Muslim"

5:58 PM
I see, I see.

and when strangers see me in the masjid and come up to me, they typically do so under the impression that i'm a new muslim who would appreciate someone who can "instruct" me
there's a reason i typically avoid the masjid when the tablighis are in town.

tablighis lol?

Interesting. I had never heard of them.

of course, that doesn't always help since they also go door-to-door.
nice guys, but i can seriously only take so much maashallah maashallah whenever they find out that i'm a big white muslim who's not completely ignant.

I didn't realize there were door-to-door Muslims

6:06 PM
consider yourself lucky. they love converts. or reverts. or whatever you call them. us. whatever.

I'm not sick and tired of the mashallahs yet (:

give it thirty years.

Alright, I'll get back to you then (inshallah) (:

if i haven't been maashallahed into an early grave.

I have to question where this Masha Allah expression traces its origins back to
(as an expression of delight, that is)

6:10 PM
hahahahahahhah

I don't know of any Hadeeth where it is used in this manner
You'll find Subhan Allah, but I don't know of any instance where there is a Masha Allah
@RebeccaJ.Stones you might want to ask that as a question on the site

Am I the official question asker? (:

hahaha

@RebeccaJ.Stones you've set the bar pretty high

Hahaha, I suppose that's a good thing
And why don't we say "mashallah" 33 times?
like we do "subhan allah", "alhamduillah" and "allahu akbar"
(Anyway, I should sleep... got a flight in the mornin'. Nighty night, ya'll.)

6:27 PM
good night

Q: Are closed questions impacting the statistics at area 51?

KiliseIn Islam at Area 51, it says we have 83% questions answered while we should work to get more: "90% answered is a healthy beta, 80% answered needs some work. Q: Should questions about Islamic sites be asked?

ArmaanShould questions about Islamic sites such as Masjid al Haram and the Zamzam well be asked? I was going to ask this question; How does the Zamzam well never run out of water? but I didn't because I didn't know whether or not the question is on topic.
