i was going through the late answers and first answers review queue and cleaning up posts.
from the name of the hat, i suspect i got it from editing to improve a years-old question

probably because i did more than 10 of those reviews too
mine was a Fascinating and a Fascinating, Ma'am

i got me a Time Lord.
would be wearing it now if the chat cache decides to refresh.
still got 5 first posts to go through. maybe i'll get another hat when i'm done :)

"As the fatwa I am asking about came directly from IslamQA, I require any answers to be backed up by evidence that would be considered compatible to their methodology (i.e. Hanbali)." <-- i'm sure i could've worded that better...

Q: Are 'vocals only' nasheeds of Maher Zain permissible to listen to?

user6837I recently learned that a nasheed is haram to listen to if it has sound effects which sound like musical instruments even if they are 'vocals only' (source). I don't have much idea about musical instruments. Can anyone please tell me if the 'vocals only - no music' nasheeds of Maher Zain fall int...

@goldPseudo true that

almost tempted to close it as unclear; on further examination i'm not sure if he's asking about whether the fatwa applies to Mr Zain's nasheeds, or asking us to listen to all of Mr Zain's nasheeds and let him know if there's anything in them that would fall under the fatwa...

2:34 AM
woo! cleared my review queue!
(and 19 items left :/)
10 first posts, 3 late answers, 1 low quality, 1 reopen. doesn't add up to 19, so no clue what the missing four are. :/
and now i have an urge to go out and buy an Android just so i can get all the app hats.

Salaams, I share this lecture with the intention of helping cross-sectarian understanding and exchange between Shiites and Sunnis. I view Nakshawani to be nowadays a good representative of Shiite beliefs and concerns both in regards with our inter-sectarian ideological differences and also our concerns for the greater Ummah. We find him to speak with the kind of fervent and passion that one finds in any learned and concerned Shiite.
The Sunni brothers may find themselves at unease upon listening to his critique of some of the Sunni historical beliefs or temporary politics but they should also not miss the legitimate basis for those heated remarks. I also dont intend to push his ideas upon others and don't expect others to readily accept him but my intention as I said is to help cross-sectarian understanding which I think is even more crucial considering the situation of the muslim Ummah.
So hear we see Dr. Nakshawani discussing what he sees as the defects in Sunni beliefs and political stances responsible for recurring anti-Shiite violence despite incredible forbearance and benevolence shown by Shiites towards the just struggles of the Sunni world.
I think I should correct the last part of my first message for better accuracy: "We find him to speak with the kind of fervent and passion that one finds in many learned and concerned Shiite youths" today

6:30 AM
I found that correction important, because there are evidently many among our greater elder Shiite scholars holding the same concerns yet with incredibly saint-like restraint and good will towards the Sunnis that persist despite all the harms and pains inflicted by the Sunni world throughout history upon the Shiite people.

guh. i still can't figure out how to re-word that line.
calling Shaykh Munajjid's fatwas "Hanbali" is (to my understanding) somewhat of a misnomer even if he has been trained in Hanbali methodology.
"Salafi" is accurate, but not clearly defined.
particularly since Salafism emphasises ijtihad over tying oneself down to a particular madh'hab.
what i really want is some way to say "Evidences provided must be something that Shaykh Munajjid would totally accept" but that's, again, ill-defined.
i'mma try out "I expect answers to be backed by evidences, and these evidences must be compatible with the Salafi methodology used by IslamQA (the source of the fatwa itself).", see if that sticks. it should prevent things from getting too opinion-based.

Q: ﷲ (Allah) as a shem

Noach mi FrankfurtThe answer to this question effectively says that Allah is the same deity as Hashem. In Islam, it is considered an equivalent to the shem Hashem, except that one need not be m'kadesh to write it. It is also close to the name אלוה, which is put in a geniza. If this is the case, would the arabic w...
