@goldPseudo looking good in it :)

i've got "I'm gonna cook some meth, only got twenty dollars in my pocket..." stuck singing in my head now.
which is just wrong on so many levels.

and the more you try to push it out the more stubborn it gets

my traitorous brain is trying to re-write lyrics for the rest of the song now.
i'm hoping to drown it out by concentrating on work. but concentrating on work is actually very boring.
aaand we're back up to 6 items in the review queue. we just had that thing cleared :(

you know it's hard to not laugh out loud when you really want to, or you would wake/disturb the neighbours ;)

@Daniel that was interesting, if only because it's the first time i heard the term "geniza".

@goldPseudo Jewish law requires burial of texts containing God's name rather than throwing them out
Geniza can mean alternatively the room or area where texts are kept while accumulating enough to bury them all together or the actual burial site

@Daniel there's a similar practice in Islam, except Muslims are also allowed to remove the sacred text by letting it get washed out with water.
makes me wonder if this is just something that was adapted from Jewish practice rather than Islamic revelation.
may also be destroyed in fire, but as far as i know there's some dispute on that.
but just disposing of it normally is considered sacrilegious

4:20 PM
@goldPseudo there are many similarities between Jewish and Islamic practice
In fact, I believe that nearly every law in one religion has some analog in the other
Even if they are not exactly the same

@TRiG appreciate your edits and contrib! wish we had more users like that.

@IsaacMoses Proofreading isn't so much a service I provide as a form of compulsion. I can't help it.
I do a bit of tidying every time I visit the site, just because I feel like it.

@TRiG did you have the link to that message bookmarked?
that was quick!

I don't know why I so often dredge up old conversations when I'm having new ones. It just seems to be the way my brain works.

@BleedingFingers I just did a search for "proofreading" in the V. Bam chatroom.

4:57 PM
@TRiG aaaand, leme guess, "dredge" in The Upper Room?

@BleedingFingers Nope. I didn't remember my exact words that time, so I searched for quote and couldn't find it. But I remembered that Jack Douglas had responded to it, so instead I searched for TRiG said by Jack Douglas, which found his response and from there my original.
A bit of lateral thinking is helpful at times.

@TRiG you even remember which room you said those things in and who replied?

@Daniel Oh, remembering the room is generally easy, though I have sometimes wished for an option to search all the chat rooms associated with a given site.

i can do that too. it sometimes amazes me how few people can recall details of random conversations they had years back.

@goldPseudo Yeah. If I can remember a specific turn of phrase (and fairly often I can), I can dig 'em up without any great effort.
(My archival tendencies are one reason why I dislike Facebook and Twitter. They don't make this kind of searching easy.)

i'm pretty good with unique turns of phrases. at least, those are the ancient conversations that are more likely to stick in my memory.
it's usually easy to remember which room i was in and who i was talking to.
and if i don't remember the exact turn of phrase, i can at least remember enough of the context and rough timeframe to dig up contextual keywords.

best guess, you get a Warm Welcome hat when you upvote
probably, if ur first vote since the winter bash started was an upvote, on a question u get it
leme try some other site

i think it's from upvoting a new user's first post.

highly likely
yes!

i haven't earned one yet, but that's mostly because i hate upvoting things.
