6:00 PM
Laylathul Qadr could be any of those days

I think there was some Hadith saying it is an odd number.

there is a hadeeth mentioning 26th :)
sorry correction, I meant 40 or so opinions...not hadith

What do you guys think of question quality nowadays?

but yeah.. 27th is a part of it too.. so nothing wrong with the answer..
@yasar11732 Question quality I don't know.. there are still areas of islam from where the questions haven't been asked

@Ershad For example?

6:03 PM
Too many questions on rulership/politics type

I don't like politics questions, but halal-haram questions are good fit for QA format.
@Ershad What areas do you think we are missing?

@yasar11732 For example Hijrah, Tahara, Belief of muslims itself, Hajj, Umrah
there are lots
@yasar11732 For example Hijrah, Tahara, Belief of muslims itself, Hajj, Umrah

What do you mean by "Belief of muslims itself" ?

Aqeedah..

I don't know what that means :)

6:08 PM
@yasar11732 Aqeedah

It is just the basics..the belief in messengers, angels, etc..

is to my knowledge means Islamic Creed

@Ershad Don't you think those questions might be too simple?
4
Q: Should we close boring/trivial questions?

yasar11732Quoting from here Close boring, trivial, mindless, uninteresting, etc. questions. It's taken me a long time to get here, but your really need to shut down any question that wastes your top-users time and energy. Flag these questions. Vote to close when you get the privilege. Comment....

No, I am saying some questions are advanced level.. but most questions are just too broad.. I don't know how to express.. for example.. when I studied class of purification about different types of najasah.. and different aspects of wudhu and stuff.. it went really deep and there were minute aspects that was discussed.. it was nice.. I don't get the similar experience here
But I think that is how Q & A works
It is not a class or something
Let me ask a simple but interesting question for e.g.
4
A: Would it be permissible for me to go out for lunch/dinner with a person of the opposite gender?

ashes999As mentioned in other questions and answers, Islam stipulates some rulings around interaction between genders. Starting at the top (most general): And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way. (Surah Israa, verse 32) Based on this,...

this answer
the final solution is having both sitting together in the presence of a mahram of the girl.
This includes her blood relatives, such as her father, brother, sister, mother, uncles or aunts by blood, etc.
My question is Can a girl use her 4 yr old brother and go for the "chaperoned date."

Hmm, very insteresting indeed.

6:16 PM
Yes, because no one has asked the question Who is a mahram
or What is a mahram

My guess is she can't because the whole point of having someone with them is to have someone that would stop them if they would do wrong.
That is only my guess thoug.
@Ershad I think you should ask those questions and answer your own questions if you know the answer.

Your guess is correct. But the reasoning is different.. It goes back to definition of Mahram.. Most people think it is just her blood relatives, such as her father, brother, sister, mother, uncles or aunts by blood, etc. That is correct. But it is a loose definition.
The reasoning is ..
A mahram should fulfil two conditions
one is mentally sound
and other attainment of puberty
in case of male either that or 15 yrs old
@yasar11732 If I ask and answer, it looks like hunting for rep.. i shouldn't do that..I am sure someone will ask this question someday
it just takes time..
but I would like to see very fundamental but interesting question

Answering your own question is encouraged in SE network I think.

yeah.. I know..but I still don't like it.. I like a discussion.. if I answer my own question..it looks like talking to myself

Anyways, weren't you going to answer my vacation question :D ?

6:25 PM
lol.. yes.. but then I think I don't have any material to write a strong answer... because.. vacation is not haraam in itself.. also, you asked vacation for taking rest.... which in fact encouraged..just like why it is encouraged to sleep at night...since taking rest would keep you healthy... so it doesn't take a scholar to say that taking rest is permissible.. however if the vacation is something that involves extravagance..for. e.g people take loan and go for honeymoon..that would
be impermissible
Another thing is in Islaam, you are encouraged to go to nature and look at Allah's creation
and ponder upon it
So, there is nothing that prohibits vacation or picnic..
it is like asking is using laptop prohibited

Hmm, but the ayah I gave seem to be suggesting otherwise.

it depends on what the use of laptop is
let me explain what the ayah means from tafsir.. translation could be misleading..since you are making conclusion from the translation
go ahead @AlUmmat I am checking Ibn Katheer

ok
@yasar11732 well, Ershad said that we are encouraged to go into nature and ponder upon it
Well you can go to a planet museum and ponder upon the Planets for a vacation
pondering over the creation is worship

Yes.. @yasar11732 Regarding the verses you mention.. I will tell you when it was revealed and what were the circumstances..
It was revealed in Makkah
It was when the Prophet was receiving the revealation and was spreading the message
He used to strive day and night to accomplish the mission
So, it used to become hard for him
But Allah filled his heart with forbearance and tolerance
He made his heart light
filled it with love
Hear Allah speaks of times when there is a affliction for believers
And Allah says that when there is an affliction for believers
he replaces it with greater ease
when to move towards him in worship
And the ease that Allah gives does not just replace your difficulty
rather it is lot greater than the difficulty
So what you can learn from this is
never despair
when there is difficulty
and do not lose hop
*hope
because after difficulty comes great ease
when you are persistent in worship to Allah
So the verses are " 1. Did we not expand for you your chest?
2. And did we not relieve you of your burden?
3. Which weighed down your back
4. And we exalted for you your honour
5. Verily then, along with every hardship is ease
6. Verily with every hardship is ease
7. Then when you complete striving (propagation),
then exert yourself (in worship)
8. And turn to your Rabb in earnest"
The 1, 2 Allah says to the Prophet
how he relieved his chest of the burden
when he faced hardships during spreading the message
and then Allah replaces it with ease
when he strives in cause of Allah
So, I think the verses you mention.. doesn't lead to the conclusion you made :)

6:47 PM
I am still at the conclusion that "there is ease at every hardship, when you are finished with something, move on to something else", meaning don't take a vacation.

lol, No..it means when hardship is taken off you and you are given ease, be thankful to Allah through worship..
doesn't mean go do someother work
neither it means dont take vacation

Ohh, ok :)

how old are you?

23
Why? do I sound too young or old? :)

lol, I am 23 too.. btw If you read scholar's biography.. you will find they used to go for picnic with family..because a man should keep his family happy with such activities.. which are halal.. I thought you were young.. your question sounded naive
The average age of this forum might be 20 i guess
just a guess
how old are you @AlUmmat If I can know

6:54 PM
@Ershad I do not like to share my age :)

@AlUmmat That's okay :)

@Ershad but I am surprised, I would have thought you were older, you are pretty young, both of :)

lol
Prophet got married at 25 ;P
So we're not so young..
there are 15, 13 yr olds here
Maa'sha Allah
At 13, I was fooling around

I was away for a minute, now I am back.

guys..
so it is mt and gold the olders here..
oldest.

7:01 PM
who is mt?

mt?

yeah who is mt?

me
i meant me

okay :D..
I think you are still young

33 actually
not old..

7:03 PM
Do you know what our age will be in Jannah

but the oldest here
yup
33

If we get there Insha Allah, yes.. 333
33
33 because it is the prime age

we will inshallah

like you have the right mixture of youthfulness and responsible at the same time
at 33

i guess so..
but more responsibility..
u know.. you get married your life changes quickly..
u get a kis.. ur life even changes more and more..
kid*
not kis!!

7:06 PM
:D
@Ershad My question being sounding naive may be because of the weird religios education I had. In schools, they teach us only the very basics like, five pillars, and they made us memorize some surah. And then I was a part of a Jamaat, where focus was either existential (like, how can we know if afterlife really exist) or deeply philosophical, I really lack a lot on fiqh and sharia.
Like everybody assumed everone knew about fiqh already :D
Brb.

@yasar11732 I can understand.. I felt it is naive because I thought you kind of restricted the mean of whole ayah into one example of vacation.. So I thought the only hardships you had in your whole life is only school exams ;D.. Thats how I concluded you were young.. but I was wrong.. But, yeah, you need some fiqh to practice.. I don't know a lot..I just know the basics enough for application in my life..
btw, I didn't get the philosophical Jamaa't ..it sounds interesting.. you can tell me a bit about it when you return

@yasar11732 if you want to study fiqh I suggest you start at Maliki than go to Hanafi than Shafi and than on to Ahmed :)
than you could study the shia fiqh which has two schools
if you want to study Shia of course

Wow.. 4 schools completely? I guess.. one school of fiqh is enough for a muslim to practice.. and it does take a lot of time..

@Ershad yeah, but I suggested the above so that you have all knowledge of the schools and than you can choose your school
also I think they have a book out on the Fiqh from Ali bin Abi Talib Radiallah Anhuu, but I am not sure
My suggestions are just suggestions of course, I just try to suggest to try to help :)

@Ershad Check this out: nur.gen.tr/…
Everyone starts from first word, if you intend to read :)

7:23 PM
@yasar11732 Is this explanation of Qur'an?
because I see verses are jumbled up

Generally, it starts by introducing an ayah, and goes on explaning stuff
I just realized FAQ had some interesting questions on that site.

this site is nice

There is a collection of books en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risale-i_Nur written by en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Said_Nurs%C3%AE I was in a Jama'at in which those books are discussed.

okay..it is basically contemplation on stories and verses from Qur'an

Every books differs a little in style. The one I linked called the words, is most basic one, where beginners start to read. There is also small books like "The Guide for the Youth" that are collection of articles from different books regarding some subject.

7:34 PM
This is nice.. but I think if it was a series of other courses as well..like fiqh etc.. then it would be complete

wow, this is nice..is it for PC as well?
i guess no

@Ershad sadly no
I was going to try to install it
but I have to have tablet

@Ershad At the time of the writing of this books, belief in Turkey was in danger, e.g. people were abandoning islam more and more (generally by questioning fundamentals of faith), therefore, books aimed at persuasion of modern people, rather than being educational source for Muslims.

@yasar11732 I can imagine... I met a student from turkey.. For me, turkey directly implied muslims... after talking to him, I found he was like into atheism... I was shocked.. His parents were muslims though
So, these books were for strengthening the fundamentals
it is useful
belief is first and foremost before everything else
fiqh comes next

7:41 PM
without belief fiqh is useless
:)

yes

@Ershad are you familiar with the science/art of knowing Allah?
معرفة الله

@Ershad I think intro to this chapter shows how it aimed against persuasion of modern people nur.gen.tr/…

@AlUmmat No, I haven't heard of that as an art...or something
but I guess it is just knowing Allah from Qur'an
?

man

7:48 PM
Importance of Laylatul Qadr? http://islam.stackexchange.com/questions/1229/importance-of-laylatul-qadr?atw=1 #ramadhan

I hate the education systems in islamic countries
why don't they teach us about people like 'Said Nursî'

@yasar11732 Yes, I see that... I have never seen such interpretation and explanation

@Ershad I do not consider it as an art or something, but that is how I read it once so now I use it. Basically it is really hard to explain what Knowing Allah is, but what the so called "Science/art" is is to seek to know Allah better, and there are techniques to do this.

@HaLaBi The collection has been translated into lots of different languages, and you can find it online. It would be nice if you had a teacher though.

@HaLaBi I think it depends on countries... each country has their own scholar who motivates and inspires people :)
@AlUmmat What kind of techniques?

7:51 PM
Islam has no country
islam is global

lol.. agree.. but I saying with respect to teachings

@Ershad one of them is to ponder on His creation, another is to ponder on His names and attributes , and there are more

for e.g if you go to pakistan
the maududi teaching will be profound

assalaamu 'alaykum

@goldPseudo wa alaikum salam

7:53 PM
@goldPseudo wa alykum assalam jonathan

johnathan.

@AlUmmat Agree.. Asma wa sifaat.. and pondering on creation.. it really helps knowing Allah. @goldPseudo Walaikkum assalam
with an "h"

(i am very particular about the spelling of my name. nobody ever gets it right :p)

lol..because it is different from usual jonathan

yep.

7:54 PM
ok sorry johnathan

it's usually either jonathan, or johnathon.

i have a friend called jonathan..
he is jewish..
a doctor

it's originally a jewish name, i believe. "God has given".

never knew that

@goldPseudo that is what it means?

7:56 PM
so i'm told. i'm hardly fluent in Hebrew.

מה שלומך יונתן?
בזכות Google

@goldPseudo so Johnathan means "God ha given" so what does Jonathon mean? do you know?

there is definitely a jonathan in the Bible. he was a friend of David, if i recall correctly.
@AlUmmat just a different spelling of the same name.

Asalamu wa alaikum/hello Welcome to the main chat room @MhdSyrwan

like mohammed, muhammad, mohamad...etc

7:58 PM

@HaLaBi wa alaikum salam

7:59 PM
بارك الله بكم يا شباب

@MhdSyrwan are you Muslim?

Yes, proudly :)

@MhdSyrwan Asalamu wa alaikum then, I say the salams and hello when I see new users come into this room I have never seen before. If I find out they are Muslim than they will hear the salams from me, and that is why I asked if you were a Muslim, to find out :)

:)
:)
are you from syria ?

guys i am bacj for a question..

8:03 PM
so what do you think about the site so far, (I see you are a member).

see my name in the users list:

@HaLaBi yes

it shows (marriage, sex, women) thats annoying..
can i remove it?

I think so
one moment

every body has quran, sunnah.. halal.... except me.. sex, women and marriage.. embarrasing

8:05 PM
@HaLaBi rofl - you'll have to get active on questions/answers involving other topics

@AlUmmat, it's a great chance to change the bad ideas found in the west world about Islam

@Ansari really? come on i only answered one question or two for these questions
thats bothering me a lot..

not sure how they measure activity

@HaLaBi try to answer another question from another tag

maybe comments too

8:06 PM
come on guys...
@AnnaLear hello there..

@HaLaBi really really embarrassing !!

@HaLaBi Hi :)

@AnnaLear can you help me with the above topic

with the tags? unfortunately, no. those are automatic based on the tags on the questions you most frequently participate in.

but i didn't..

8:07 PM
@MhdSyrwan yes it is a great chance :)

Lemme take a closer look.

@HaLaBi - there's nothing wrong with being an expert on marriage and women :)

@Ansari lol....

@HaLaBi Mine says sin-or-not, stealing, women it is like it asks for a question :P

@Ansari you are really enjoying mocking me :(

8:08 PM
@Ansari that's not it

no i'm serious - we are a mature deen. we can talk about these things openly and in an adult manner

I know man.. but the first impression will be bad..

"Divorce, Marriage, Sunni". could be worse.

:D

my fault for not answering a lot of questions.

8:09 PM
sex, marriage and women.. come on it is islam.se not life.se

not sure if it accounts for asking questions in the tag weights.
because i've definitely used none of those tags in questions i've posted.

@HaLaBi Check out your tags: islam.stackexchange.com/users/37/halabi?tab=tags. You have the most upvotes in [marriage], [creation], [evolution], [women], [sex], [quran]. you have the same # of upvotes in most of those, so they're probably picked at random for the user page

@HaLaBi is it killing you ?

if you think the tags aren't appropriate for the site at all... that'd be a discussion for meta.
but unfortunately I can't do anything about the user page display short of recommending that you get more upvotes in other tags.

ok @AnnaLear thanks for clearing that... will work on it today.. will answer other questions.. something would give good impression about me..

8:11 PM
@HaLaBi you're welcome

Ok guys what about quoting from bad sources ?
http://meta.islam.stackexchange.com/questions/287/should-we-prevent-some-sources

i can downvote all your sex and women posts if it'll make you feel better :p

hehehehehehehehe

Yes me too :P

so you reminded me of Tarig Ibn Ziyad before he attacks spain.. (the sea behind you and the enemy infront of you" so either get downvoted.. or get that lovely tags around my name..

8:13 PM
Or, get upvoted on some other tags?

good idea yassar.. just pick up any one plz..
Johnathan.. i got your name correct thing time.. one upvote will be appreciated..
any topic.. :D

@MhdSyrwan we should definitely prevent it

ok guys.. see you later.. salamu alaykum

@AlUmmat
ok, can you make something like source voting ?

@HaLaBi wa alaikum salam

8:15 PM

Q: should we prevent some sources?

MhdSyrwanthere are some sources/websites that are against Islam completely, and gives people wrong information by fraudulently translating into english . for example : www.thereligionofpeace. com should we prevent that ? and if we should, how to do that ? for example, we can make the community vote for...

@MhdSyrwan yes
actualy I just thought of something

@MhdSyrwan I don't think you can, but most people know what that site is all about.

we go all around the internet and find reliable source and post them on the meta

@halabi, i just went through all your posts. i'd already cast my votes on all of them.

@AlUmmat
that's great :)

8:15 PM
and than we get it voted

@halabi your answers on marriage and sex and women were very good. definitely upvote-worthy :)

@MhdSyrwan and if the sources are not used and another source is used than it must first be posted as an answer on the meta and get it voted
@MhdSyrwan and that is how we can have source voting
it is kind of like the people voting

@HaLaBi I think you are good now?

see this

Q: Who should our beta moderators be?

DynamicIslam.SE has just hit Public Beta, and soon it will be time to get our first batch of moderators, as explained in the Moderators Pro Tempore blog post: That’s why I am in the process of identifying and organizing a team of provisional Moderators from within each community (about three per sit...

the posts on here are actually people who are being voted

@AlUmmat
ok, according ot that way, the person who is asking should link his question with the meta question for every source ?
@yasar11732 you mean the technical issue ?

8:19 PM
@MhdSyrwan no what I am saying is like the beta moderators thing, it is a post but there are answers to it and they are being voted
if
there was a post for the sources

@MhdSyrwan Yes, technically, you can either up/down vote whole answer, not just the source.

people can surf the internet and post the sources there and have them voted up as reliable or down as not reliable
and if someone answers from a source that is not there than he will post only the link to the source in his answer
and have it judged

@AlUmmat Ok, but then what? Will we not allow sources deemed unreliable?

this all goes back to the "what is a credible source?" issue.

@yasar11732 no, we should not allow the unreliable sources. If they are used than we should judge what subject the source is on, and if the info on the subject is reliable

8:22 PM
which is not at all clear cut.

do you understand?

in general, if a post relies on obviously islamophobic sites for evidence, it's probably just a bad answer that would get downvoted anyway.

@goldPseudo yes

I think all we can do is to downvote answers using unreliable sources. But, a source being reliable or not differs from people to people.

@yasar11732 what do you mean?

8:24 PM
at least, we should down-vote the sites which is against islam obviously .. such as thereligionofpeace.com

Well, I may deem a source reliable and use it in my answer, but you might think it is unreliable and downvote it, and someone else might think my answer is good and upvote again etc.

@MhdSyrwan first I suggest to make a post like the moderators one, and than have the sources posted under it

Q: Islam: Only answers with references to credible sources should be allowed in this site otherwise they'll be chaos

Hasan KhanIn a QnA site for religion only answers with references to credible sources should be allowed in this site otherwise they'll be chaos. There should be no personal opinion questions or answers. Proposal: Islam

@yasar11732 then if that happens than the content of that source should be judged

@AlUmmat
ok, you're right

8:26 PM
i doubt we'll be able to keep an up-to-date blacklist anyway. we could block some sites, but there'll always be more.

@goldPseudo well we can always add a site to the list for voting when it shows up

i just can't imagine anyone writing a good answer while relying on the information from bad sites. so they'd get downvoted (or deleted) anyway without needing to take the extra step.

@goldPseudo
that's a big problem, thus i suggest to force users to link their questions/answers to one of the answers of the question that @AlUmmat talked about
@goldPseudo ... sometimes they don't know that they are relying on bad sources

1
A: should we prevent some sources?

AnsariGood question - I think there is no need for an explicit policy regarding this (plus, this will lead to discussion/argument about which sites to include in such a list, this list can never be exhaustive, etc.) If someone links to an extremely Islamophobic and hate-filled site like the one you re...

A: should we prevent some sources?

goldPseudoThis seems to be an unnecessary concern. For the most part, any post that's relying on information from an "obviously bad" site would just not be a good post; it will get downvoted, closed and/or deleted as the situation warrants, just like any other bad post. In the off-chance that somebody ac...

8:40 PM
@AlUmmat ok , we can accept this way , and if it didn't work will try to enhance it, what do you think?

I agree with @goldPseudo

@MhdSyrwan I kind of agree with goldPseudo

@AlUmmat
me too:)

:)

i should go now :)

8:48 PM
@MhdSyrwan Asalamu wa alaikum

Assalamu wa Alaikum

9:16 PM
Do you think this is a good answer to my question?

A: Can a Muslim go for a vacation?

AffanThe verse is not intended for this. In no way is it discouraging vacation. Every verse has to be understood in its context. This whole surah addresses the Holy Prophet. As for ayah 7-8 I quote Islahi: This verse directs the Prophet (sws) to prepare for the ultimate destination and In o...

I think the link he gave is good.
but he is right in the sense...the verse cannot be interpreted as you did

9:32 PM
@Ershad But I think his explanations are lacking a little bit.
Didn't read his link yet though.

This would have been a good answer nur.gen.tr/… for this question:

Q: Why does God create evil?

AhmadiDoes God create evil? If so, is it compatible with mercy of God, and what motivates God to create evil? If not, then who created evil things such as jealousy and envy? Is Satan evil, and was he created by God?

10:23 PM
Asalamu wa alaikum

wa 'alaykum assalaam

salam alaykum brothers and sisters

@HaLaBi wa alaiukum salam

@goldPseudo @yasar11732 thanks for the upvote.. you have saved my reputation.. real reputation not only the website reputation ;)

@HaLaBi I see you have fixed your tag problem, congratulations :)

10:35 PM
:D thanks man

Alhamdulillah

it's odd. i thought most men wished they were experts in women.
(i hear they can be confusing)

@goldPseudo That wasn't his problem
he didn't want to be the only one in the crowed with those tags
and the others didn't

yes
i would like a raper or something :D
astaghforoallah

i really need to choose my jokes more carefully with you two.
you take things too literally. :p

10:47 PM
@goldPseudo who, me?

both of you.

@goldPseudo hmm, sorry I do not really know what literally is :(
is it related to the word literal?

it is.

Why is Laylatul Qadr commonly thought to be the 27th night of Ramadan? http://islam.stackexchange.com/questions/1227/why-is-laylatul-qadr-commonly-thought-to-be-the-27th-night-of-ramadan?atw=1 #ramadhan

@goldPseudo Ive got study my english more

10:51 PM
in this case, it means you understand the words i use, but don't necessary understand that they're meant to be funny.

@goldPseudo well, I do not really find some of them funny , only some I do
