please help mw with my answer to this question
1
A: Is L-cysteine that is derived from human or animal sources halal?

Ashu Is L-cysteine halal? Yes, it is. What is L-cystiene? Cysteine (abbreviated as Cys or C)[3] is an α-amino acid with the chemical formula HO2CCH(NH2)CH2SH. It is a semi-essential amino acid, which means that it can be biosynthesized in humans. P.S Biosynthesized meansthe following - Bios...

well the op is asking about man made sources of l-cystiene
if it is halal in its natural form (read my ans) then shouldn't be halal in man-made form too? please ping me if you have an answer to this.

question doesn't specify man-made sources. it's asking about natural sources from my reading.
"human sources" isn't "man-made sources".
the crux, i believe, is "Are foods derived from human sources halal?"
so while it in and of itself may be halal, the question of it's source still needs to be accounted for.
in the same way gelatin is halal, but is generally considered haram if it's derived from pig bones.
one source of l-cystine is boar bristles, not sure how common that is. the dominant sources in the industry seem to be human and poultry.
it's also possible that some interpretations would consider maitah sources to be haram.
(speculating, would need to actually research that)
@ashu that's my interpretation, at least.

@goldPseudo Can you help me find the right tags for this question? islam.stackexchange.com/q/1165/38

i would probably make a new tag for zuhd.

wow, okay

it feels like it's own concept.

@goldPseudo so in the end i concur that it is halal given that human hair and duck feathers are....

i don't know much about zuhd myself. maybe it could fit under ?

5:24 AM
No, adab is just etiquette right? Zuhd is more than that.. you are right..there should be separate tag..

yeah, that's my figuring.
if the tag gets autodeleted due to lack of any other zuhd questions, we can worry about what tag to work it into.

okay..
does it get autodeleted?

i think so. not sure how often it runs.
but any tags that are only used by a single question get wiped.
"I've implemented a routine that removes tags created more than 6 months ago which have been used only a single time. It will run monthly."
30
A: Should We Zap The Low-Occurrence Tags?

Jeff AtwoodI don't know -- can anyone make a case for these single use tags existing for more than a month? edit: I am convinced this is a useful cleanup task, to remove these orphaned tags from the system automatically. I've implemented a routine that removes tags created more than 6 months ago which have...

so if we don't get another zuhd question in six months, we'll know it's not that useful of a tag. :)

wow, okay. In that case if no body asks, it will get deleted
yes

also might be worth going back through the archives and seeing if any other questions might be relevant to retag.
i did that when i created , there were a few others that were already posted that the tag was also useful for.

5:34 AM
Ah..okay. good idea
will save my tag..lol

@Ershad - i take issue with translating zuhd as asceticism
the word "asceticism" comes with a lot of connotations and baggage in the West
that should not be associated with zuhd
it's not a one-to-one mapping

lol, i just picked that from wiki..for more understanding..i know it is not the usual ascetism
so should i remove it?

yeah
still
i think it just reinforces or spreads that mis-mapping
i think you can just keep it zuhd without translating it
then explain a little bit in the question

okay.. :)

jazakallahu khair

5:37 AM
yeah, might as well remove the definition; since the question is essentially asking what it means, you can assume the answerer already knows what it is :p
or rebuilding your second line question a bit more like "It is normally translated as asceticism, but does that mean living in poverty etc etc...."

yes that's better i think

@goldPseudo Good idea, thanks :)

@Ershad - are you planning on answering your own question? :)

I do have answers.. But, I am looking for better ones.. I have answers from Imams like Ahmad Ibn Hanbal.. etc. But, I don't really have narrations from Prophet regarding that.. So, I guess someone might have a better answer

it is time for me to sleep. assalaamu 'alaykum all.

A: Did Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan become the ruler of Muslims in a legitimate way?

HaLaBiYes, Muawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (RA) became the Caliph in a very legitimate way and as Mohammed (PBUH) predicted in his two authentic Hadiths: حَدَّثَنَا صَدَقَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُوسَى، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، سَمِعَ أَبَا بَكْرَةَ، سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ...

@ashes999 can you add the @Stackislam twitter feed to this room

@Ashu Why would we want to add that feed? It would just bring a bunch of random questions into the chat room.

@Dynamic one of the ways of promoting this site was retweeting those tweets... i would like to tweet the good ones from them.... directly getting them here rather than searching them on the twitter page would be helpful
also many SE have this thing in chat
it helps finding good or unanswered Questions

12:13 PM
@Ashu I know but it spams the chat room...
Unless we did that ticker in the upper right hand corner

It might help your research.

@yasar11732 cant be too sure about that piece of info, but ill anyways see into it
@Dynamic doesnt matter :P
well anyways regarding your question on astronomy
the standard model has lots of holes
higgs boson will plug some of them not all
but it will nullify a valuable thoery of "supersymmetry"

12:28 PM
@Ashu Ahhh.... Ok.
I thought I sounded a bit wrong.

"supersymmetry" was used by physicts to plug holes in the standard model, so if the do find higgs boson they will still be in a problem :)
@Dynamic sorry for being so geeky
:P

@Ashu Sorry? I'm in love with Physics, although I have only recently began studying Particle Physics.

oh im sorry
well some interesting info here

Any Arabic around?

you mean arab, right?

12:37 PM
Yes, sorry :)

im not an arab :P

I was going to ask if this makes sense to an arab => xn--mgbcanya0ab4l6abbcd.com
I guess it is supposed to be Ottoman Turkish, but I can't read

google translate?

Google translate thinks it is arabic :)

is ottoman turkish different from just turkish?

12:43 PM
Letters are different, we use latin alphabet. Also, language changed a lot too. Ottoman Turkish included lots of Arabic & Persian.
Normally I could read Qur'an, but that site's font is really hard for me to read.

oh i see... good luck finding help

It is not that important, I just got curious.

@BadgerGirl what do you mean by "are temporary marriages still allowerd" ? we they allowed before?

@Ashu Have you seen this:
3
Q: Why do Shi'as allow mut'ah marriage?

ErshadAccording to Sunnis, it was allowed before but later the Prophet salallahu alayhi wassalam abolished it. It is based on the following hadeeths: In the Two Sahihs, it is recorded that the Leader of the Faithful `Ali bin Abi Talib said, "The Messenger of Allah prohibited Mut'ah marriage an...

I am not sure, but I guess Mut'ah is a marriage with a predefined expiration date.

@yasar11732 oh no i didnt... thanks :)
@yasar11732 yes it is

12:59 PM
@Ashu I am trying to find something on chakras too, people saying sufist believe that, but I can't find any reference at all.

@yasar11732 well im see that a little l8r.... im answering badgergirl's Question

ashes999 has made a change to the feeds posted into this room

Done @Ashu, let me know if it's too annoying as a message; I'll move it to the overlay instead.

Q: Can a muslim believe in chakras?

yasar11732Chakras are said to be whirling pools of energy in our body according to Hinduism/Buddhism. It is said that these chakras can be open, closed or overactive, and depending on their status, they could affect people in different ways. Is there anything in Islam that refuse or accept this? Can a Musl...

this is a very good question

@AlUmmat Hmm, interesting

@Manishearth yes, really I would say we must believe in them because if there was no scientific study than we would not really know that they existed except by the practisis of the other religions, so that would make it a part of the Ghaib and we must believe in the Ghaib (the unseen)

2:32 PM
we must believe in the ghaib, yes, but we can't really claim knowledge of the ghaib except what God has revealed.
if chakras exist, and if they are detectable (either in fact or in effect), i don't know that they really qualify as ghaib.
at the very least, if the effects are seen, then believing in those effects is not believing in ghaib.

2:54 PM
@goldPseudo we do know the chakras exist, I have done some study on it my self. The efects are rather unseen, as I said there are seven major chakras that are connected to the seven major organs in the body
From my study, they are there to manage the chi through the body
I am not realy saying that chakras are of the unseen
but there are things like the earth
scientist know a lot about this earh, but there are things that are unseen
so sometimes those that seem to be seen have an unseen side
and that is kind of what I meant by unseen, hope you understand
AND I want to add on to what I said, that things that Allah has revealed to us, only Allah knows it totally, the Qur'an is a good example
we have so many tafseers and stuff to understand the Qur'an, but all this only Alllah and His Prophet know what the total meaning is, that is why when one reads the Qur'an you can read it a million times and get a million meanings and get more
did any of you understand what I just said? anyone?
Asalamu wa alaikum @Gigili
how are you doing today?

3:49 PM
hello @RobertCartaino , I never seen you in this room before, how are you?

Salaam @AlUmmat, sorry I didn't see your message beforehand. I'm doing fine, how are you?

@Gigili alhamdulillah

@AlUmmat Hello, back. Yeah, just poking around to see how things are going.

Do you think 7 levels of nafs (qadiri-rifai.org/html/pathofsufism/levels_nafs.htm) can be somehow related to 7 chakras ?

@RobertCartaino :) well everything is good in the chat room I can tell you that but I am not sure about the main site
@yasar11732 I would not think so but maybe, the 7 stages of nafs are for the soul and it's getting closer to Allah

4:00 PM
Our user base is mostly new comers. I think people will get the SE way in time.
@AlUmmat I was interested in chakras and red about them a little, first chakra is root chakra and it is about animal instincts, just like Nafs-i-Ammara is governed by animal instincts.

@AlUmmat Yeah, things seem to be imploding a bit in places. Most seem to get it (i.e. Aarthi's meta post)

Q: Why Sectarianism is Ruining Your Site

AarthiThis morning I spent a solid two hours clearing out a whole mess of flags, comments, and suspending users for inflammatory and unconstructive remarks. Four days after ashes999 posted his plea for tolerance, this is just getting worse: we are seeing intolerant and outright rude and incendiary com...

... but what we need is more "getting it" / follow-through on the main site. All that "preaching to the choir" in meta isn't doing any good if the premise isn't being enforced/supported on the main site.

brb.

@RobertCartaino that kind of argument/debate was largely instigated by one or two users. the only reason we were seeing so much of it was because those users were prolific. i think it quieted down yesterday. i believe the majority of our users "get it."

Great to hear.

agreed. it appears to be mostly a disruptive minority effect.co

4:08 PM
I didn't see those guys around today.

the problem should be less so once we have enough high rep users to nip it in the bud.

Hmm, the one I had in mind have been suspended as it seems.

i'm more worried about question and answer quality though
there are still very few questions that i can forward to a real life expert and get them engaged on the main site

I personally want to see more sufism than fiqh, but that is just me :)

@yasar11732 there are more topics to ask questions about than those two :)

4:12 PM
@yasar11732 haha, I would agree with you :) but Islam is not all sufism, balance is always needed

i have to step out for a bit - be back later

@Ansari asalamu wa alaikum

i've been going back and editing some of Ahmadi's posts as time permits

@Ansari Yes, I've noticed that, too. I'm not a fan of the basic questions that appear to be ask by curiosity-seekers "just wondering..." about their Islam 101 questions. I don't think they add well to the overall "expert" tone of the site.

he does make some good posts when you get through the rants and broken english
the trick is stripping away the irrelevant bits.

4:16 PM
@goldPseudo by he you mean?

ahmadi.
sorry , typing is awkward when i'm on the phone.
headed for a tunnel. Probably gonna lose my connection soon.

Q: Is there any hadith about Friday's salah (Jumu'ah) that should be centralized and grouped in one place (Musalla)

adopilotI do not know is that tradition or it has roots in hadith but for me Jumu'ah (Friday's salah) should be centralized event. When I said centralized I think that if in one region we have several mosques only one should be host of Jumu'ah salah.

that's a good question.

yes
I agree

4:55 PM
i would probably revolve my answer around the "do not travel to any mosque except three" hadith.
but i would need more than just that to be a substantial answer.

@goldPseudo no I do not think this is a hadith for the answer

like i said, would need more than just that. i'd need to research.

@Manishearth well sorry i forgot you :P that makes us 6

Hello @Aarthi , how are you today

Hello @AlUmmat. I'm doing well. Yourself?

5:09 PM
@Aarthi good, I love the post you posted, it really covers a lot of ground :)

Funny, you should mention that.
Based on a few chat messages from earlier, I feel this needs to be reemphasized in this room:
This is a site for questions and answers about Islam, not partisan rhetoric on Middle Eastern politics. Messages discriminating against any specific ethnic group or nationality will be deleted on sight. Respect others, treat them as you would like to be treated, or go somewhere else.

Salam Alaykum all
we have company toda.y.

@HaLaBi wa alaikum salam,

guys
I have this weird question.. which been in my head for a while
@goldPseudo and @AlUmmat ur opinion is important
now we all know as written in quran, there are jinn...
they can be muslims.. go to heaven and hell...etc like us
they are ordered to pray and fast and hajj....etc
but some missing points here.. i am sure it is missing for me not missing in quran..
we have no enough information about them.. as in how do they look ...etc
so, how do they make wudhu??
wudhu'u
do they have arms and face and ears???
I mean it is explained in quran.. you know.. wash face then arms then head....etc
does that apply to jinn???
if so, then they are like us but transparent??
is that a question to ask???

akhi in matters of the ghaib ahl sunnah takes what we are given and doesn't ask the kayf or try to guess more details

well, i told you brother, maybe I am missing something.. if there is nothing in quran then i won't guess about it.. but I said maybe there is something I am missing..

@HaLaBi nope nothing
not to my knowledge

5:32 PM
you could probably post something like "What do jinn actually look like? Are they described anywhere in the Qur'an or hadiths?"

ok, good ,, i will ask that..
check this questions

Q: Is the horror movies Haram in islam?

MhdAljoboryI heard some people said that every thing made me scared is forbidden in islam, Is that right? And if it's right what the references for that from Quran and sunnah??.

@HaLaBi I suggest you get strong in your faith before you delve too deeply into Jinn

not only me who asks wierd questions.. thats a relief
no worries @AlUmmat i am cool with them.. they are not like animals to be scared from.. they are creatures with intelligence..

@HaLaBi no but diving too deeply can open a dimension that all jinn can access you, if you wait and let Allah open it up slowly for you or Does what He thinks is best for you than you would be better off

well,,, I do not know how can they access me... you mean posses me?
@RobertCartaino hello there. are you the owner of SE?

5:38 PM
@HaLaBi no, meaning the bad ones can do harm

well,, bad humans can harm me more i think..

@HaLaBi just a warning

I am not really into this possessing thing.. i believe they can do it.. but i do not think it is like whenever they want.. otherwise they would have been possessing me long time ago..
do u think I am already being possessed?
sometimes I think so...
whatever..
Thanks @AlUmmat for the warning.. may all save us from evil things

@HaLaBi well, always remember the two last surahs :)

alekhlas and alnas

5:46 PM
Alfalq wannas

@HaLaBi He is Director of Community Development for the Stack Exchange Network, as it says in his profile.

yes i read that.. but someone told me he is the owner

yea yea you are right.. i mixed up
thanks @yasar11732
