i need help making my login screen work on the Pi with Raspbian.:( When I click log off on the GUI it brings me to a terminal instead of a login screen.
@EinsteinJr. I think you need to hone some of your research & comprehension skills. E.g., I'm sure I've tried to explain before about what the "desktop environment" is, and the "display manager", which controls the login screen. But you seem to have forgotten the point...namely, that these are independent pieces of software which are used beyond Raspbian.
Here's maybe an illustration: 80%+ of the questions I sit down to ask on S.E. never get asked, because in the process of writing them, dotting my i's, crossing my t's, making sure everything relevant is explained, etc., I find the solution myself.
There's a lot of stuff to get frustrated about, but again, the more you get used to reading particular forms of technical documentation, the easier it becomes. Don't throw up your hands until you are really, really frustrated. Keep in mind the Q&A economy is basically: a lot more people ask questions than answer them. This makes sense -- it's because expertise is acquired slowly -- but that's why we're very stickly about forcing people to do things a certain way.
that is up to you but put yourself in our place. what do you think of someone who repeatedly asks offtopic or poorly thought out questions with your username
Anyway, to re-iterate the point about the Q&A economy: We want you to make it as easy as possible for us ("us" being the potential A half of Q&A). Just because something is free does not mean there are unlimited resources available.
My big issue when I started looking for comp. sci. help online was perceiving people as "mean".
Anyway, it's a culture, and that doc is a pretty good explanation of why it is the way it is. You don't have to read all of it, but it is worth glancing over and taking various bits to heart.
