2:00 PM
@GraceNote Aw. The pregnancy discussion could've been about Scribblenauts.

@badp It wasn't, though.

@badp I wonder if Scribblenaut's vocabulary extends to Eldritch horrors

@YiJiang'sEvilClone Chtulhu is there.

@badp As is Shoggoth

So yeah, anyone of you like to play some faction or character mostly because of the self-image they project into your brains, usefulness and sanity be damned?

2:01 PM
(I don't have the game)

Scribblenauts can get you pregnant?! BRB

@MartinSojka In any game in general or in the game you cited earlier?

@BenBrocka "baby pregnant undead penguin" is a valid combination, yeah.

It should be available for Android sometime soon

@GraceNote Any game, really. :) Just wondering if it's just me. :D

2:02 PM
@MartinSojka Sometimes. Depends I guess

@MartinSojka PAR has an article on how it helps trans "discover themselves" - penny-arcade.com/report/article/…

What do you mean "self image" though, the image they project?

Ah well, that's enough gifs for the P.O.N.I.E.S. cannon I think

@MartinSojka Sometimes. Sometimes I create something in essence off myself, or I do it based on an incarnation of myself, and sometimes I do it based on a concept I'm aiming for.

Scribblenaut for Android showed up on the Amazon app store a while ago

2:04 PM
@BenBrocka Well, mostly "this is what I would look like if I was in the game world", projection of yourself.

Though not on Google Play, weird

@YiJiang'sEvilClone maybe there's an exclusivity agreement
How much's the game on the amazon store?

For example, my DFO character was somewhere in between the latter two, appearance-wise based partially on an incarnation but otherwise pursuing her own character nature and skillset.

@badp $1, and AFAIK the only thing that Amazon requires of developers is that the Amazon version of the game have the lowest price

I think that's why I tend to go for the "grumpy and cynical" character if I have the chance to, as well (for example in Alpha Protocol)

2:05 PM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Just $1 for the full game? That's way cheaper than the Steam edition

Meanwhile my Etrian Odyssey character is entirely an incarnation through design.

It's 186.9MB big, wow
Of course, the stupid Amazon app store is US only

By the way, in how many games that let you choose your gender is that choice anything more than a "Boobs?" ON/OFF toggle?
Nethack has egg hatching I suppose

@badp I know a few where the women don't exactly have much in the chest department anyway.

2:08 PM
@badp Hmm, can you get pregnant in Dwarf Fortress?

@MartinSojka I don't know.

@MartinSojka In Fortress mode, yes. Not sure about Adventure mode

Ogre Battle, however, had it affect a tiny handful of dialogues in the game, as well as actually which possible endings you could get.
(Mostly with regards to who you hook up with at the end)

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I meant Adventure Mode, obviously. Now that's an interesting question, since I have no idea about the answer and don't know exactly how to test it.

Hmmm, I don't think mating and pregnancy is implemented in Adventure Mode
I'm not even sure what the mechanics are in Fortress Mode

2:10 PM
nethack has foocubi as well

@YiJiang'sEvilClone Mating isn't implemented in Fortress Mode either. Marriage is, and then everything pollinates by spores.
So you'd need to be 1. female and 2. married to someone who isn't dead yet.

@YiJiang'sEvilClone uk too

@Sconibulus Well, there's one for each gender so it doesn't really change a lot. Unless the two are subtly different?

@YiJiang'sEvilClone spores

I never got that far honestly.

2:11 PM
kids are the downfall of many forts

@badp They do different things with Rings of Adornment

I can think of a lot of games (say, Megaman ZX Advent) where there are actual ability differences between two gender choices, but in those cases you're picking from two character choices as a whole, not simply "male or female" in a character creator.

@badp Depends what you consider "more than a boobs toggle"

a succubus will steal it from you, an incubus will equip it on you

@GraceNote Elder Scrolls games always have slightly different stats for males/females of a given race, if we're talking character creation

2:12 PM
@Sconibulus Okay, I'd rather have it stolen than replacing one of my rings :P
@BenBrocka That would count for example.

/me makes a comment about it not being stuck on a finger.

@badp Well... stealing the +3 ring might hurt your chances of good things, if you're sink-kicking early
late game, when they spawn randomly, stealing is much better

@BenBrocka I'm thinking we're looking more at a character creator example since protagonist choice has a lot more option in the get-go in how to handle choice difference since there's entire backstories and capabilities to work around.

In Disgaea different genders of each generic class have different stats and a different passive ability

@BenBrocka Some quest lines slightly differ as well, while some (often hilariously so, see: Uncle Crassius) are nearly identical.

2:14 PM
Tactics games tend to have different classes available by gender

@MartinSojka We don't like to talk about Uncle Crassius anymore...

Does Mass Effect care?
I can';t think of anything, but maybe it does.

Don't think it matters at all in ME except for voice/romance options

In halo you end up wtih a smaller body(and maybe smaller hitbox, but I dunno).

I didn't even know Halo let you choose gender.

2:16 PM
...I can think of a number of games, especially tactics games, where gender dictates class options but all the ones coming to mind have a fixed protagonist or one who doesn't class change.

@badp I don't think you can? Master Chief is always male, right?

@badp in multiplayer it does. Single.... nope, your just John.

Matters slightly in Fallout NV for a couple of gender related skills, which msotly only change some dialog options with a few people of the opposite/same gender as your character

@djsmiley2k Oh, okay.
@BenBrocka Does it have anything to do with sex robots? (I don't have the game, I only heard about those.)

@BenBrocka Ooooh yes, and damage too them also I seem to think.
@badp hahaha no.

2:17 PM
@badp There are sex robots but I don't believe the sex robots are picky

@BenBrocka Fallout 1 and 2 had that in spades in the story department, no idea about stats.

@djsmiley2k Yeah, but that's just "bonus to male and bonus to female" and both genders have both options (just named differently)

@badp The perks I think are for doing 5% extra damage to opposite gendered enemy

@MartinSojka Nothing major significant, to my recollection, in the stats department.

Which is really not significant

2:19 PM
And the female-oriented one is pretty useless since there's like 4x as many male enemies (or more) and gender only matters for humans IIRC
The perks are really only good for an extra way out of a couple quests

Yeah, double-checked, no stat differences in Fallout 1/2

Oh yeah, that perk does add a few extra dialog options in addition to the damage bonus

@GraceNote not in NV either I think

Related to that Myron can burn in hell. I think that was the character I enjoyed killing the most.

Oh, let me rebroadcast my offer. If anybody wants a rocket jumper, trade me on Steam. For you guys, it's free.

2:21 PM
Glitch's "gender" system is hilarious. Characters have no intrinsic gender, but boobs are attached to items of clothing

Weird as it sounds, in Soul Nomad, gender choice affects your endings and how certain things play out, but your actual battle unit counts as "male" for all gender-based benefits regardless of you being male or female. Which is weird since they actually do count the trap as a male properly.

hehehe

Oh, in Trickster Online gender mattered pretty significantly. IT was basically your specialization inside the class

Sheep~

@BenBrocka I see dead games

2:23 PM
Classes had 3 jobs; first job was the same for each gender, second was unique for each gender, third was either unique for each gender or you could pick from the other gender's second job skills instead
@GraceNote Sheep are complicated

I don't think most people would like a RPG which locks out content based on your gender

Sheeeeeep~

@YiJiang'sEvilClone did you find the GW2 installer yet?
It's ~20 GB of stuff.

@badp I'm... not sure if I want to play a MMORPG

@YiJiang'sEvilClone This is largely why I think the most places don't put a major impact on the choice.

2:24 PM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Free weekend. I spent most of the previous one waltzing around looking at the scenery

@YiJiang'sEvilClone If the game is supposed to take multiple play-throughs for full completion, I don't think it would matter much.

@badp There is a relatively large Arqade player base, right?

@YiJiang'sEvilClone Mostly inactive, at least according to @kalina's complaints
People who have the game include kalina, OrigamiBob, Raven, FAE, Wipqozn

@badp I don't usually put too much credibility in her complaints.

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I don't see why she'd lie

2:25 PM
I thought kalina and Origami ended up with irreconcilable differences through GW2 and that neither of them really play it anymore.

I still play it!

@GraceNote I think it can be interesting if they're different, not locked out. I liked the "gender" system in Trickster for example

I've just been distracted by my Borderlands 2 playthrough. >_>

It's not like it's "lol, female character? no soup final boss for you!"

@BenBrocka MMOs are different though

2:26 PM
@BenBrocka Same. In DFO, they started making alternate genders for the classes which actually do affect skill effects.

I tried GW2 out last year for a week-end. Meh.

so much drama

I'm not sure I get the appeal of trying out an MMO for a weekend, the start always seems the lamest and most boring part

@MartinSojka I don't really like the game proper, but the world is beautiful to even stare at. IIRC

Some of them just change minor effects of certain skills, others replace some portion of the skillset with a rather different one, and then in the case of mages, Male and Female mages are pretty much completely different classes that simply share the same weapon set.

2:27 PM
I don't care about GW2 being inactive
@YiJiang'sEvilClone die in a fire

@badp The site seems to be asking for a serial number

@GraceNote nah I just got bored of the game and it was painful staying up until 5am every day to play it with Americans

@BenBrocka GW2 free weekends usually let you go into higher levels zones and up-level you.

@GraceNote Did you play sheep? What elements?

@kalina Says the person who was staying up til 5 AM every day for the last two weeks. >_>

2:28 PM
@BenBrocka I never played Trickster. Sheep is what I would've probably played if I had.

if you guys are going to be playing this weekend though I will log in to distract you as much as possible

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I suppose that's for the purchaseable version? Maybe you need to be invited. I was invited by Wipqozn last time

@Fluttershy I was off work, when I was playing GW2 I was not off work

I'm not much for MMOs, recall, and what happened to DFO is largely why.

@kalina For you, gladly ♥

2:29 PM
@GraceNote Uncerimonious sudden shut down?

@YiJiang'sEvilClone d'awww

@kalina The only MMO I played, I played because I was already up at X AM and wanted human beings to play with

@badp It says it's partnered up with <list of sites> to distribute serial numbers for the free weekend

@BenBrocka I played WoW, GW2 was a change of pace... somehow I ended up playing EVE which is far less colourful than both

@GraceNote Oh. I had an AP cat and a Fox for digging up quest items

2:30 PM
eve looks awesome but time, and.... well yeah
time,

@YiJiang'sEvilClone Oh. I just got an email telling me that there was a second weekend and that I should play

@djsmiley2k it's something more than time

@badp Aye. I like being able to put something down for any amount of time, and then pick it back up again at no cost.

@kalina skill?
@kalina money?

@GraceNote Unfortunately the world is going fast the opposite direction

2:31 PM
@djsmiley2k Spreadsheetophilia.

@djsmiley2k Sex appeal? No wait...

spreadsheet stuff doesn't bother me, if the people are interesting.

@GraceNote That's what I liked about animal cross--LOL WEEDS EVERYWHERE F*&^ YOU PLAYER

@BenBrocka Hehehe

I wonder if it is possible to calculate the bounty "success rate" on a site

2:31 PM
I never really understood animal crossing.

@djsmiley2k it requires you to detach a chunk of your soul and use it as a down payment

Data explorer doesn't seem to have bounty data though

@kalina I enjoy my 360 most days, I have some soul to spare tho.

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I have like a 20% success rate with bounties I place
It's a shame all that rep doesn't get refunded if the bounty system fails you

the only bounty I ever placed, I ended up answering myself after everyone ignored it ¬_¬

2:33 PM
bounty system is pretty much useless imo

@kalina Well, there are many ways to measure success
@kalina It seems to work on larger sites like SO, but that's the only site I've seen it really work on

@BenBrocka Ahha

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I use "did the bounty attract a good answer?"
I can't see a better way of measuring success than that

Oh, wow, the Trickster Online shutdown was pretty recent.
That was the game you were referring to when I brought up DFO's shutdown, wasn't it, @BenBrocka?

There's one bountied question that's looking for new answers where existing, accepted answers doesn't seem to satisfy the bounty giver

2:35 PM
@GraceNote Before it was shut down I posted an incredibly depressing video of it on my youtube. At least I got to try out the Cat's super special evolution skill before it went down
@GraceNote Yeah

Yeah, I'm kinda hoping to at least hit 70 in DFO before it shuts down.

There are, in rare cases, people who plonk down a bounty on questions they answer themselves in the hopes that the attention will get them upvotes

I think the Korean version is still up, too

Why do I have to accept my own answer as an answer?!

@djsmiley2k You don't have to, uh...

2:36 PM
@BenBrocka KDnF will still be up, too, but I ain't got a KSSN.

@GraceNote They require a social security number?!

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I have done this once, it was the one time I found the bounty system worked

@BenBrocka Most Korean MMOs that I know of do. At least, all the ones I've ever had a remote interest in looking at.

to attract updated answers to a question so we could close a new question as a dupe

Don't know if Trickster Online does or not.

2:38 PM
@GraceNote gross

@GraceNote You don't have to if you're not a Korean citizen, right?
I mean, if they do then obviously they're restricting access to Koreans only

@YiJiang'sEvilClone The ones I know of, including DnF, not being a citizen means I can't play.

I've seen a few Nexon South-East Asia games do that too. When I first tried to sign up I found someone already squatted my IC number

@YiJiang'sEvilClone WE're talking the Korean versions, not international
trickster international never required an SSN

Fortunately the algorithm for validating Singaporean IC is well known and I can easily create another valid IC number

2:40 PM
Yay! 20 spins later, I finally get myself on the Wheel of Blame!

@GraceNote Duke nukem Forever?

@MartinSojka Dungeon 'n' Fighter, the original name for Dungeon Fighter Online.

TIL... ICQ is still a thing

Obesity in a box

2:43 PM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone Is that 2 pieces of crispy chicken as the buns with a chicken patty between them?

@StrixVaria Two piece crispy chicken as buns with a hash brown and bacon in the middle
I'm actually rather curious how it tastes, though a. I can't eat spicy food and b. even fast food is above my lunch budget now

@GraceNote now I want to know what a Duke Nukem Forever MMO would be like

Turkey bacon, by the way, to satisfy the Muslims here. Turkey bacon is thoroughly disgusting

Turkey bacon is an insult to the glory that is real bacon.

Turkey Bacon is offensive to my religion
3

2:44 PM
@Fluttershy Some people claim that's an "homage" to "the original game"

@badp Those people neither played "the original game" nor know the meaning of "homage", then.

@BenBrocka People would subscribe to it but it wouldn't release for a long time.

I'm actually rather curious how it tastes, though a. I can't eat spicy food and b. even fast food is above my meager lunch budget now

The original game was on DOS

@YiJiang'sEvilClone The regular double down was awful. But I do like hashbrowns... so I'd be willing to give that one a try.

2:48 PM
@YiJiang'sEvilClone I mean why would I not have my own answer as an answer by default? especially as it's the only answer?

@YiJiang'sEvilClone $8.50 for a meal is fairly expensive for crap. You could get like actual food for that from an actual food place

@BenBrocka Fast foods aren't particularly cheap in general, at least in Italy

@BenBrocka S$8.50 is 6.88 US Dollar

@djsmiley2k We don't automate acceptance, simple as that. We aren't going to make assumptions on your behalf, no matter how logically practical it might be.

I can lunch for €3.4 just fine in Milan
The cheapest McDonald menu is... like... €5?

2:49 PM
S$8.50 is very expensive as far as fast food go, though

@GraceNote ok :D

Sure, I get coke instead of water, I get fries instead of... nothing, I get meat instead of pasta, but...

@YiJiang'sEvilClone Oh, that's not as terrible then. But like @badp said, fast food actually isn't that cheap

Comparing prices is silly unless you have full understanding of the economic situation.
$10 for food in US is... I dunno, in commerincalised bulgaria it'll get you maybe a burger

If I eat at fast food I would flash my student pass (even though I'm no longer a student) and get a S$5 meal

2:50 PM
in the UK it'd get you maybe a burger from fast food place, or possibly a meal there

Which is actually competitive with what food courts / hawker centers here offer

and in rural bulgaria it'll get you a meal fit for a king.

commerincalisationinglyness is just the worst

Singaporean food courts are not like US food courts at all, just in case anyone is wondering

@YiJiang'sEvilClone I'm wondering what you get in both, as I'm in the UK.

2:52 PM
@djsmiley2k Hawker centers are large open air structures with a large number of stalls. They sell many different types of meals. Food courts are like upgraded hawker centers, found in malls, usually with air conditioning
It's a lot like fast food, in a sense, but with a lot more variety, and a lot less deep-fried stuff (though some hawker center offerings are no less healthy, given the amount of oil and salt used in the cooking)

@YiJiang'sEvilClone aside from being denser that looks pretty similar to a US food court

There are no fast food outlets

Q: Why can I never form a club affiliation?

Danger FourpenceOn Football Manager 2012, I am currently a club in the top tier of Croatian football. I currently have three feeder clubs, all in Croatia. As I've been at the club for quite a while, the board allows me the option to pick my own feeder club. Obviously, I want to expand my scouting knowledge, so ...

Q: Why is everybody suddenly scared of me at Lady Boyle's Last Party?

Dan CI am at Lady Boyle's Last Party, I have an invitation and everything. After taking great pains to blend in with the guests, and quietly incapacitating most of the waitstaff and the watchman guarding the service stairs (by the rum fountain), I snuck upstairs to loot the joint.
