@spugsley Understatement has value, but for a logo when that may be all some people see, you usually want it to be clear and to draw attention so that people who have never seen it before will have it click right away. Style and coolness is important as that leads to propagation as people will want to see and show off a cool logo.

@spugsley I'm not saying anyone's wrong, but that both approaches have their own value and meaning

The problem is that sometimes quality takes time and it almost always takes inspiration (which is harder to control the presence of). It's pretty much a situation of "that's the way it is and now we deal with it."

@QAdp I believe I would still read that as a 'D' actually even without knowing what it said. It depends on context. I was referring more to the main site logo. In chat, you might be more likely to read the 'D' in the logo as an 'O', but I wouldn't because the offset along the curve of the ship's wing is almost lost here.

@QAdp The tail which is practically invisible in the current logo. The one you posted above is slightly more readable but still disappears too easily. Capital 'Q' is a difficult letter - possibly why joystiq uses lowercase and the lowercase is one of the nice things about QAzer's logo.
