@AshleyNunn I also don't know what Canadian schools cost or your financial status in general, but the rule of thumb I heard is to not pay more for whole college than you expect to make the first year after you graduate. Sticking to that allows it to be paid off in about 10 years

@AshleyNunn on the one hand I see those bullshit padding exams and think they're bullshit padding exams, on the other hand I relished as a student what little bullshit padding exams I had as relief from the rest of the courseware

so while I think that's probably too many bullshit padding material I also think they're critical in ensuring sanity. I still would go for enrolling for separate courses honestly; you can still put that on your CV. If anything it risks being quite a lot more expensive. On the other hand if you don't commit to the dull four year program you still aren't getting that paper.

@TimStone the way things work in Europe each degree is obtained by amassing a set amount of study credits, 60 per year, one credit being theoretically 25 hours of work. Nothing stops you from buying more than 60 a year, if you do you just pay more (okay there was a 90 credits/year limit at Polimi)

It works out similarly here, where you can take as much as you want but they require advisor approval after a certain point to make sure you aren't going to kill yourself with over-work.

Since the university I went to is public, all lessons are open to the public and all you really buy is access to the exam (and rare labs)

Most of US schools you either pay per credit, or you get a certain number of credits with flat tuition for a semester, but you pay extra if you go over a certain number of credits

I know I paid half fees for my last years because I was basically out of credits to buy
