12:00 AM
@FAE Well, it's not mine, so there's kinda no point in following those.
It'll be gone in about a week or so when my uncle goes back to China.

FAE
@Yuuki Well even getting a basic idea of ISO speed, etc. will give you an idea of what changes when you adjust things

First try to figure out how to adjust shuttle speed, aperture, and ISO

I went and saw a horse show today
also a guy carving a bear out of a tree with a chainsaw

@GnomeSlice Did you see a horse?

and a bunch of other shit

FAE
12:03 AM
Yeah, even just those basic things can give you enough info to play around with stuff

@RedRiderX like 150 of them

For portraits, hmmm, trying to remember my lessons here, aperture priority. Try o blur out the background to focus on the person

@PrivatePansy You adjust shuttle speed with a rocket and several boosters if you want to escape Earth's atmosphere.

FAE
futz with exposures and see what the effects are

It was apparently a world record for largest number of horses at a show or something

12:03 AM
@GnomeSlice Wow good horse show.

tied the record set last year at the same place
local fair that happens every year

FAE
@GnomeSlice chainsaw carving is neat

@Yuuki Sure, and the aperture of the nozzle determines burn rate and acceleration :P

@FAE I couldn't imagine practicing that myself.

FAE
@RedRiderX it's really cool to watch

12:05 AM
Like, even with extreme sports, when you first start out you can break a bone or two.
But with chainsaw carving you can lose a limb on day 1

As long as you know how to use a chainsaw you're not really in danger of losing a limb

FAE
@RedRiderX that kind of goes for chainsaw handling in general if you're not careful

Sure I guess

FAE
and I imagine you'd want to be familiar with a chainsaw before trying carving

True

12:08 AM
Hrm. So I want a real headset again.
Mainly because I hate broken earbuds (which is where I'm at in my life right now)

@Unionhawk earbuds are the worst! (extra worse if broken)

@Chippies They're fine if they work. But as soon as things get loose, it's over

@Unionhawk I guess it depends on what you use them for and how much you enjoy having hard plastic in your ears

@Chippies Nope, only the squishy rubber variety of earbud

@Unionhawk ah, those are usually referred to as in-ears or in-ear headphones

12:11 AM
Same thing

so wait, do you need a microphone?
because headsets have microphones, headphones don't

Meh. I kind of want one.

@Unionhawk ?

I want to be 100% more fancy than I currently am

Want one of what? A mic?

12:12 AM
@RedRiderX No, I want two of those. Obv.

the fancy people recommend headphones and mic to be separate

@Chippies Very true

that way you get more value with your money and better quality

...

it really depends on how good you want your mic to be

12:13 AM
If you want to enter fancydom get this for a mic:

I'm not getting a fucking blue yeti those things are expensive

if you want to voice videos or whatever, you'd probably be better off with a separate mic

Yeah might be a little too fancy

if you just want to use it to communicate with your fellow gamers, a headset is fine

Q: URGENT MINECRAFT WILL NOT CLOSE

user87949URGENT I have down loaded minecraft 1.8 for my mac pro and I can't seem to delete it from my computer nor will it let me shut it down how can i remove it and fix this problem???

12:14 AM
Headset is fine for hobbyist video anyway, too.

@Unionhawk $130 is not anywhere near expensive for a mic

@RedRiderX umm, yes it is

@Lazers I... uh... wat?

@RedRiderX $130 is a lot for anything for me right now.

@Chippies Well not when you start looking at external mics that are of studio quality.

12:15 AM
@RedRiderX except, is blue yeti a studio quality microphone?

It's a great microphone, but I don't need one.

I'm sure OS X has a Task Manager equivalent. And even if it doesn't, there's always kill

@Chippies It's pretty close to it.

@RedRiderX because you can get cheaper studio quality microphones

@Unionhawk Sure but we're past arguing in your best interest.
@Chippies Really?

12:16 AM
@RedRiderX ebayyyyyyyyy

@Chippies Are they new?

If I was looking for a studio quality microphone, $130 would be an excellent investment.

@RedRiderX you can even get for less than 130$ on non-ebay, new ones
this is supposed to be 99$ I think, it shows more than that in CAD though...
still under 130$

@Unionhawk You could be super cheap like me and get a Logitech for like $15.

@Yuuki I agree with this, jsut make sure it's a USB mic
Logitech microphones are surprisingly good, as long as they're USB

12:19 AM
@Yuuki Yeah, but I got the cheap logitech before, and the thing snapped in half.

or go with antlion modmic.com

@Chippies Huh I guess you're right.
I guess I was just thinking of usb mics

FAE
Logitech's hardware quality is not what it used to be :/

@RedRiderX but you'd need an audio interface

@Chippies True

12:20 AM
which isn't an issue if you're looking for a studio mic in first place
if you are willing to spend 50$ on a mic, that thing is amazing

Oh hey have you all seen this awesome desk:

ultra wide monitor :o

@Unionhawk I know!

@RedRiderX can I has? I need a bigger desk :(

I love the Galaxy Note 4 ad on YouTube like "LOL, remember when people said our phone was giant? Yeeeeeah, wat."

12:24 AM

brb, need to change my pants

dat 21:9 ratio

FAE
@RedRiderX I'd just worry about the refresh rate and ghosting for gaming

Q: KOTOR xbox commands on Steam

blainehI originally played the KOTOR games on the xbox, and since then I've also played on PC. I greatly preferred the command structure on the xbox, and not just because I got to use a controller, but because of the literal mappings. The left and right triggers toggling between different targets was es...

12:36 AM
@RedRiderX That's fucking gorgeous

@LessPop_MoreFizz Oh my

Isis (/ˈaɪsɪs/; Ancient Greek: Ἶσις; original Egyptian pronunciation more likely "Aset" or "Iset") is a goddess from the polytheistic pantheon of Egypt. She was first worshiped in Ancient Egyptian religion, and later her worship spread throughout the Roman empire and the greater Greco-Roman world. Isis is still widely worshiped by many pagans today in diverse religious contexts; including a number of distinct pagan religions, the modern Goddess movement, and interfaith organizations such as the Fellowship of Isis. Isis was worshipped as the ideal mother and wife as well as the patroness of nature...

@LessPop_MoreFizz Wow. People are stupid

The name is... it's not that uncommon.

(not talking about the owner)

12:37 AM
Americans, or American people, are citizens of the United States of America. The country is home to people of different national origins. As a result, Americans do not equate their nationality with ethnicity, but with citizenship. With the exception of the Native American population, generally all Americans or their ancestors immigrated within the past five centuries. Also, there are other groups that did not immigrate to the United States but became American because of American expansion in the late 1800s. These groups are people from Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippine Islands. Despite...

FAE
@LessPop_MoreFizz aw geez :(

@privatepansy I'm well aware. Doesn't change the fact that people will take it the wrong way.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Does Isis mean something I'm not aware of?

It doesn't help that it's a stereotypically 'muslim' business, owned by a brown dude.

FAE
@LessPop_MoreFizz yeah :/

12:39 AM
Oh @gnomeslice. Sweet, innocent, naïve, oblivious @gnomeslice. Never change.

@GnomeSlice Yep

@LessPop_MoreFizz Thank you for your constructive response.
3

I meant every word of it.

@Unionhawk Oh, huh. Is that a well known acronym?

@GnomeSlice It's been in the news for a bit

12:40 AM
The Islamic State (IS; Arabic: الدولة الإسلامية‎ ad-Dawlah l-ʾIslāmiyyah), previously calling itself the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL /ˈaɪsəl/) or the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS /ˈaɪsɪs/; Arabic: الدولة الإسلامية في العراق والشام‎), and also known by the Arabic acronym Daʿesh (داعش), is an unrecognized state and a Sunni insurgent group active in Iraq and Syria in the Middle East. In its self-proclaimed status as a caliphate, it claims religious authority over all Muslims across the world and aims to bring most of the Muslim-inhabited regions of the world under its political...

@gnomeslice it's literally been the number one international news story for weeks.

> "It will cost $8,000 just to change the sign."
yikes

It's a bunch of people who have been doing a better job at this "terror" stuff than most others

FAE
@GnomeSlice You haven't heard about the beheadings...?

12:46 AM
I don't think I've shared this album yet:

Mostly the "hey we are in your backyard and we're going to cut off your neck next" sort of probably harmless roaring that media loves so much to cover

please be careful around drains if you have long hair :(

1:11 AM
@spugsley Holy shit, that's awesome

FAE
@LessPop_MoreFizz "I am the anemone of my anemone" hahaha

@LessPop_MoreFizz I guess he could put a disclaimer poster in the window as a "for now" method.

@spugsley Wow, AFV is still a thing

@Yuuki "I'm not related to the terrorist group ISIS you morons why would I put a sign there if I was?"

@RedRiderX yeah I watch it with my mom sometimes :3
@SaintWacko no just kidding. I thought you were talking about the dog

1:19 AM
@spugsley It's been so long since I watched that show.

@spugsley no but really the first one was better

@GnomeSlice wallbase.cc is officially dead. :(

@Unionhawk that's why it's such a brilliant plot! It's so obvious, we think it can't be, but it is! (But seriously, that poor guy. Running an honest business only to have it's name dragged through the mud by such horrible people.)

@TrentHawkins No.

Hey, guys. Wanted to throw out a question on here so you could tell me whether I should post it here, or on one of the more science-y sites. I want to post it here because it's for use in Kerbal Space Program, but I understand if it might belong somewhere else...

1:29 AM
@Fluttershy Wow. Those weird circumstances.

@Iszi if it's for KSP, it should be okay here

The question is: "How can I determine the fastest real-time orbit period for a given body?" The game allows you to fast-forward to certain degrees at certain altitudes, and the time to complete an orbit increases with altitude (I think the critical bit I'm missing is the maths to figure out the altitude/orbit period relation.) - I want to know how to figure out the right combination of altitude and maximum time warp so that a full orbit takes the shortest possible amount of real time.
I want a way to figure it out without having to launch test missions just to determine orbit periods for each altitude.

@TrentHawkins The stupid thing is that ISIS isn't even their name. It's an initialism that other people came up with because "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (or ISIL for Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) is too much of a mouthful.

FAE
@Unionhawk Yeah, geez, that... sucks...

@Yuuki No, the stupid thing is everything about what @TrentHawkins just said.

1:33 AM
iSis sounds like what Apple might name their version of Kid Sister.

And the fact that americans actually think that way.

@Unionhawk Okay, the other stupid thing.

@Chippies Given the question description, do you still think so?

@Fluttershy So, the guy running the servers may or may not have died?

@Yuuki Correct.

1:34 AM
@Iszi I uhh... I'm not that familiar with KSP and/or the math that goes into it, but it still seems like something that applies to KSP, thus this is the appropriate place to ask it
the worst thing that can happen is you get downvoted and/or a moderator moves it to the appropriate SE site
but I don't see it getting downvoted, because it's certainly on-topic
and it's not a bad question, imho

inb4 "this question requires developer knowledge" (it doesn't, but inb4 that happens)

@Iszi That is on-topic here, but you're probably going to get a better/faster answer on Physics.SE.

@iszi I think you're golden to ask here
Hopefully the answer isn't a simple 2×pi×r :P

I wonder if Physics.SE will ever add a tag.

I'll give it a shot here and see how it goes. If it's too dead, then it's definitely in need of moving.

1:37 AM
Mind bending stuff right here

@iszi I do not honestly think it'll get rejected

@RedRiderX Like, literally mind bending?
Because that doesn't sound safe.

@Yuuki I believe even NASA is embracing KSP, so Physics.SE should too! :P

@Unionhawk You tell me.

At the end of the day KSP is a simulation can only be so true to life
So a real world answer isn't what you actually are after
and Physics isn't probably too interested in describing the KSP model :)

1:39 AM
Well, unless you wanted to take a Game Theorists approach and just use real physics to explain game physics.

@badp Until Toady models Dwarf Fortress down to Planck length scale.

Because suspension of disbelief is a thing we must crush, or something

I am not questioning whether or not this will happen. It is only a matter of time.

I give it 3 days.

@yuuki and time quantum long simulation steps, too.

1:40 AM
I also submit that I'm usually wrong about these things.
So
That means it will happen in some time != 3 days
So it could be 2! WHO KNOWS?
...
wtf am I doing?

Just run the game at 10e43 fps and you're golden

10e43 is a big number.

@Unionhawk Thus it is entered in the Book of Understatements, "10e43 is a big number." - Unionhawk

@Yuuki 10e43==69187

Not really — it's 10D I believe

1:42 AM
Yep. Just went there.

@badp Wouldn't that just be 1e44?

Like, a long shot from being "1000* < A lot"
@yuuki I don't believe 43 is a multiple of 3...

(yes I know "that's 0x10e43 you moron", SHUT YOUR FACE)

@unionhawk that's almost one hundred

@badp 1*10^44==10*10^43

1:44 AM
1D = 10e42
10D = 10e43

@badp isn't 10e42 same as 1e43?

@Chippies He's rolling with the hex like I did.

I meant both of those being 1e
#mobilechat

Or maybe he's just bad at typing?
I don't know.

@Unionhawk could be all 10 of those things

1:46 AM
Could be both.

or "10 exponent 42" because it's the 42nd power of 10?!?!?!!!!!?!?!?!?

Probably is both, to be honest.

So....I just got back from seeing The Giver. OMG. Like, tottaly amazing
They did an amazing job.

brb stabbing people (the word totes makes me stab people)

1:47 AM
Stuck to the book incredibly well, great acting, visuals were really good...like

FAE
@RPiAwesomeness This is pretty much the opposite of everything else I've heard about it

That was really surprising to me for a Mount & Blade game.

Q: How can I determine the fastest orbit altitude including time warp?

IsziWhen using mods like SCANsat, I find I spend a lot of time having to wait for my spacecraft to complete a certain number of orbits in order to complete whatever task it is I launched it for. To minimize this time, I want to find out what altitude is best to orbit at, such that the orbit period di...

@Unionhawk There. Now you can stop being a mass-murderer
@FAE That's because culture is biased against anything even remotely Christian.

I'm going to be done with this before it gets weird and I go too far.
Like by misusing the word "to"
That's way too far.
Offensive, in some situations.
Really.
7 mins ago, by Unionhawk
...
what the hell is wrong with me

1:49 AM
Oh, this looks headache-inducing.

@Unionhawk You're freaking Link. You travel through time getting older and younger and handling situations far beyond your age. It's to be expected

@RPiAwesomeness Well I'm biased against your FACE. /discussion

@FAE Philip Fathom is so great.

@RPiAwesomeness I don't remember getting any sense of Christianity out of The Giver when I read it, but whatevs.

@RPiAwesomeness I'm the hero of winds, not the hero of time

1:50 AM
@Unionhawk Well...I'm biased again your *mom's face*

I told you to stick with captain Laserbeam!

Get it right.
Jeez.

DANGIT FORMATTING!!!

LINK IN OOT AND LINK IN TWW ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON, PEOPLE

@Yuuki It's the pro-life aspect of it, the sanctity of life.
At least that's what I've heard.
However, critics can go boil their heads. This movie was very well done, and I personally loved it. 10 out of 10 - Would recommend

1:52 AM
...I'm going to go out on a limb and say no. But also say that isn't just a christian thing.

@RPiAwesomeness I did not see that as pro-life or anti-choice/abortion, mostly because the babies were "Released" after they were born.
Which is completely unrelated to the abortion debate.

Also that
Sure

@Yuuki Exactly, I guess it was the whole sanctity of life, killing off of the young children and elders in secret.

I fail to see how "killing off young children and elders in secret is not a good thing" is in any way controversial.

@Unionhawk People man. People.

1:54 AM
@RPiAwesomeness Nope, it was the whole anti-colorblind sentiment.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say wtf are you talking about?

@Yuuki Oh yes, that theme was very much present. Terribly awful. So biased

@Unionhawk ... Go read the book or watch the movie if you're confused?

@Unionhawk I don't know. People are strange man and get spazzed out about the strangest things

@Yuuki NO I REFUSE (I might read the book, but the movie is a no-go)

1:55 AM
They changed very little from the book.

FAE
@RPiAwesomeness Er... no, the criticisms were from people who have read the book and felt that the movie did not follow it well or do it justice.

Everyone's who read The Giver and remembers even a bit should recall the whole "people not being able to see colors" stuff.

@FAE What on earth? I've read the book several times and I thought it followed it quite closely.

@Yuuki Oh, I was talking at @RPiAwesomeness about the whole "Who thinks this is a thing to disagree with?" "People do." "..." exchange.

Only things that I really saw they changed were the ages of characters (big deal, makes for better acting IMO), their jobs (again, NBD, leads to a better story), and the romantic relationship (NBD, it's hollywood)

1:58 AM
@RPiAwesomeness They changed their jobs (I did not watch the movie)?

Hang on, you're willing to use "it's hollywood" as a valid excuse to change the story and still not count that as changing the story?

@Yuuki Yeah.

Wat.
E for effort, F for failure.

@Unionhawk I care very little about romances. For the most part it's like, WTH, why is that there, but there are cases where it isn't needed

FAE
@RPiAwesomeness Uh, this doesn't really equate to "following closely"

1:59 AM
@RPiAwesomeness I remember Jonas being the Rememberer, Fiona being a Mother-in-training (or whatever you call it), and Jonas's father being a Doctor/Dude-Who-"Releases"-People.

It's still a part of the story?
