7:00 PM
@Rapitor So it's an aesthetic, sorta "feel of it" kind of thing?

@Rapitor See, I didn't get any CoD feel from the beta

mostly.

It felt like pure Halo to me.

@OrigamiRobot With space magic.

But that could very well be because that's what I wanted to feel.

7:01 PM
@OrigamiRobot I think it's the part where you pull the gun up to look through the scope every time you want to take a shot. That feels very CoD

@OrigamiRobot my go-to COD definition that I use is if it has aiming down the sights, guns with very little recoil, and pretty quick TTKs.

14 mins ago, by Origami Robot
8 mins ago, by Origami Robot
@Rapitor I don't know what that means.

@OrigamiRobot psionic stuff

@Rapitor TTKs? That's not terminology I'm familiar with.

@Yuuki Time To Kill

7:01 PM
@Yuuki time to kill?

Ah.

Oh yea, I forgot Halo didn't have iron sights.
@Rapitor Are you implying Halo didn't have quick TTKs?

like. Halo has very long TTK, taking many shots to bring down one other spartan or shielded enemy. CoD is very quick. 3-5 shots kills pretty much anything

@OrigamiRobot in Halo you can shoot a full round plus into an enemy before killing them

We must have been playing different games.

7:02 PM
@OrigamiRobot Could've been playing different modes.

Especially on harder difficulties

IIRC, SWAT mode was basically no shield, very little health.

"Quick TTK"s are the most awful thing ever

@murgatroid99 If they had shields, sure.

HAALLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOO

7:03 PM
@Yuuki yeah, but that's not the standard

@OrigamiRobot You butt called me!

@badp instagib is like, the best FPS gamemode ever

@KevinvanderVelden except when it's SMG instagib
Then it's a brown corridor shooter

On the other hand, some Destiny enemies take a really long time to kill

@spugsley HELLLLLLLLLLOO

7:04 PM
@KevinvanderVelden best in Unreal Tournament with a full lobby. BEAMS OF DEATH EVERYWHERE

@Rapitor That was not my Halo experience at all.

@Rapitor 1v1 UT2K4 instagib, GO

So now that you've told me Destiny has "quick TTKs" I'm doubly happy that I can't play the game

Honestly, I haven't had more fun with a Halo game mode than (what I called) Landsharks on Sandtrap in Halo 3.

@badp it's not super quick like CoD, but it is definitely faster than Halo.

7:04 PM
Basically, Infection mode with 300% movement speed cloaked zombies with Grunt health pools. With Gravity Hammers and Swords.

@Rapitor even in TF2 you can die faster than I like

I never played 4.

@OrigamiRobot Whoops, I meant 3.

"oh a backburner pyro looked slightly at my side, respawning."

Haven't played 4.

7:06 PM
@Yuuki My favorite is similar, but max shields, min gravity, max jump height, max speed, only grav hammers

I didn't PvP in the beta, but most NPC enemies would die in 1-3 bursts of my pulse rifle, depending on enemy type.

You basically just ram each other from across the map and fly all over the place

@murgatroid99 Oh yeah, forgot about the environment settings. Yeah, low grav was also a part of it.

Nobody ever died, but it was fun

@murgatroid99 Oh, we did laps around Sandtrap on all the vehicles while trying to avoid the zombies (Air vehicles were banned).

7:07 PM
Grifball is my favorite way to play Halo lately... especially with more speed.

You could also run inside, but that had the risk of the fact you were on foot.

I did not like Halo 3's multiplayer.
Melee was totally screwed IMO

There was nothing more hilarious than being in a Warthog caravan then suddenly half the jeeps fly into the air because GRAVITY HAMMERS.
The pure panic coming over the speakers was just great.

@OrigamiRobot I thought melee was a bit too strong in all halos.... not just 3

@Rapitor You just have to kill them before they get close

7:09 PM
@Rapitor It wasn't the power level I hated.
It was the way it handled "ties"

@OrigamiRobot Both people dying?

No, one person dying and the other taking no damage.

Because that's just funny. Two people running at each with assault rifles, full auto, and then smacking each other in the face.

Things I learned: a trigger can be run instead of the statement you want it to.

mutual kills should be accolades...

7:11 PM
I think that's pretty much how half of the deaths/kills went in the first Halo, just double murder/suicide with straight assault rifle + melee.

@Yuuki pistol*

@OrigamiRobot No, the pistol itself counts for the other half.

Pistol was 90%
Halo 1 pistol was nuts.

plasma weapon to pop shields, then tink with the pistol.

noob combos

7:21 PM
@Rapitor Didn't even need the plasma.
You could drop anyone with three headshots off the pistol.

@Rapitor What shields?

in halo 1 yeah.. pistol was a 3 shot kill, beyond it was pretty harmless against shields

Real scotsmen Halo players played with no shields.

Okay, overshield meant maybe five or six shots.
@Rapitor I prefaced with "the first Halo".
I really hope they expand a bit more on plant sword/shield system in future Rune Factories.
I just really enjoy the idea of growing my own equipment in a farming-oriented game.
Sadly, I think the developer went bankrupt.

@Yuuki natsume?

7:23 PM
@Rapitor No, Neverland.
Oh, apparently Marvelous (the other guys) pretty much hired the entire Neverland Rune Factory 4 team.
So there's hope there.

@Yuuki I hope the new Harvest Moon has a few new systems to work with.

@Frank I'm starting to lean more towards Rune Factory.
4 was is just so much more fun than HM: ANB.

@Yuuki It depends on the systems in play; I like RF, but I figured they were trying to do too much.

@Frank They kinda still are, but they're starting to nail things down as the series progresses.
4 is really hitting all the right notes with me (except for maybe the event system, that has a few annoying points).

@Yuuki There's a lot of complexity with the fields themselves; they go beyond what Harvest Moon does, and that game focuses on just farming. That depth actually hurts it when you add in the dungeoneering, because it feels more tacked on.

7:30 PM
I think the actual farming system is as good as gold. They shouldn't need/want to change that particular mechanic in future Rune Factories.
@Frank I honestly like the new (more complex) crop system. Harvest Moon has been feeling rather stagnant in that regard.

@Yuuki I like it too. I like it more than HM's. The thing is, though, that since it's so complex, other areas suffered for it.
The crafting is pretty cool, but it's hit or miss to get the recipes you want. Or go in anything approaching a proper progression.

I've found that that depends on what you do in-game.

In other news, God Factory:Wingman looks cool. But I dunno if I want another pure multiplayer space shooter. We've got Star Conflict and others for that.

Recipe bread only ever gave me short sword recipes until I started branching out into other weapons.

@Yuuki It's been about a year since I played RF4, but I don't recall it ever giving me fist weapons.
(Which is what I was using)

7:36 PM
@Frank Odd because I only ever started getting fist recipes after I started leveling my Fists skill.
The crafting system itself was also a lot of fun. I like the two-phase system.
I especially like the mechanics of shoe and accessory (not armor, shield, or headgear) crafting.

@Yuuki The crafting system could be improved greatly by letting recipes be learned earlier than you can make them; gives you something to work towards, and you know what you want to build.

I currently have a Star Pendant forged with Heart Pendant, Talisman, and Happy Ring, so I have increased EXP gain (both level and skill), reverse status effects, and higher drop rate.
@Frank True, but I find that a lot of crafting systems with discoverable recipes have that problem.

@Yuuki Gust games do it really well.

Granted that doesn't excuse the RF developers for not making that decision, but it's more of a general RPG crafting problem than specific to RF.

They will often give you recipes that you can't make yet. But you can see what you need to make it, so you know to hold onto it.

7:40 PM
@Frank Well, Gust games (Atelier, right?) kinda center around crafting.

@Yuuki Yep. And since I've played them, I expect more crafting systems to pull from their ideas.
Granted, they pulled one of my most favorite parts; substituting ingredients sometimes gave you a completely different item.

@Frank argh I hate games that expect you to just guess crafting recipes, and if you guess wrong, the items are gone, and the game shows the recipes you've learned and you have to look up a wiki for the rest

@Frank Was about to ask if the "anything can be used as an ingredient"-style of crafting came from Atelier.

@badp Yeah, that's just straight up trial and error.
Super annoying.

I've only played Meruru and I didn't get very far (only one playthrough) before my PS3's disk drive crashed.
@badp Granted, the various failure items in RF4 are actually useful.

7:43 PM
@Yuuki Granted, the recipes themselves aren't set in stone; there's still item substitution, but you can no longer start a recipe, jam something else into it, and out comes an item you hadn't expected.

Scrap Metal+ is good for really only one specific reason while Failed Dishes, Disasterous Dishes, and Object X are surprisingly good combat items.
@Frank Well, out comes the expected item plus some bonuses you may or may not know would be there.

@Yuuki And then you have a new recipe! With it's own traits and advantages!

Like crafting gold breed crops onto weapons gives them a "chance of insta-kill" effect.

I spent SO much time in Mana Khemia trying to find new things.

7:57 PM
I'm liking the sound of FF Explorers, but I think they got too much MMO into my Monster Hunter.

FAE
@Rapitor I spent quite a few hours in the Crucible. Kills are pretty quick there too. Can one shot someone with a Melee punch if you're a Titan. It has quick respawn times like Titanfall as well.

oh god fast respawn is possibly worse than fast deaths

FAE
I don't mind fast respawn.

No one minds it for themselves but it becomes very hard to build a momentum

@badp depends. in deathmatch modes definitely put me back ASAP.. in objectives like CTF a respawn timer is a must so defence actually has to try

FAE
8:01 PM
@Rapitor The only mode they had in beta was point capture, not sure if they're changing up the respawn timer for the others
Respawn timer doesn't vary in Titanfall, IIRC

I like TF2's wave respawn system as opposed to everyone having independent set timers.
It somewhat helps in mitigating the "die on respawn" problem.

FAE
@Yuuki It's been so long since I played TF2 that I forgot about that

@FAE It feels a lot better actually rolling out as a team in a team-based shooter rather than lone-gunning your way around the map.
Now if they could find some way to combine that with Battlefield's "spawn on teammates", I'd be sold.

but you DO spawn on teammates
those in your wave
spawning on a spy or a scout or a demoman with a sticky jumper or basically anybody sneaky would be massively broken

FAE
@Yuuki Yeah, I agree. I usually PvP with friends, but I really, really enjoyed playing Destiny, way more than I thought I would. Like... I had negative interest in the game, up to and including this year's E3.

8:04 PM
@badp I don't mean "spawn on teammates" to be for TF2.
It depends on the game and game mode really.

I get that travel time is a part of balancing offense and defense, but having run halfway across the map with no interaction is kinda boring.

Pretty

engineer

8:06 PM
@badp Everyone builds a teleport on defense, but I have about a 30% success rate in finding a game where people build teleports on offense. Which is really sad. Teleporter should be the first thing you build.
Granted, it's probably the last thing you should fully upgrade, but it should be the first thing you actually start building.

@Yuuki I know
Again it depends on the game mode
on 5CP engineer is REALLY frustrating

I always build Teleporter first as Engineer. Followed by Sentry, then Dispenser. Then I try to rush Sentry to L3 while my team does the early spawn fight and I have some time before the rush gets to me.

@FAE >_<

Q: Working auto reconnect script? [Paying 2 keys]

user86573i have multiple accounts running in a computer i can hardly access. Theese accounts are connected to a server and rotating accounts connect to this server, and i want them to stay that way.Except that doesn't happen.They sometimes don't connect, or disconnect because of errors. I simply need a ...

@Yuuki I never build teleporters because I am a horrible person.

8:11 PM
@OrigamiRobot In all seriousness, if you don't build teleporters, you should stop playing Engineer.

@Lazers wait wait.. was this.. paying for help?

On class cap servers, having an no-tele Engineer hurts the team even if they're the most balls-out combat Engi the world has ever seen.

@Rapitor Was.
Isn't anymore.

@Yuuki I played exclusively on Event Harvest and I rarely ever saw anyone use teleporters
Also, I don't know if there was a class cap

I wonder if there's anything we can do about that.

8:14 PM
@OrigamiRobot Sure, teleporters are sparse on Harvest (it's such a small map...), but we won a good 70-80% of the time every time I jumped Engineer to build one.
Even if you only cut down one or two seconds from your travel time, it can have a big effect on how much pressure you can apply on either attacking or defending the point.
Managing to set up a teleporter on the opposite roof almost always guaranteed the game for me.

@OrigamiRobot Oh wow that's quite the TF2 experience you have I am impress

I made a little pod right inside one of the buildings and everyone would focus on trying to destroy my sentry instead of actually capping
I could constantly repair the sentry and be healed.

@OrigamiRobot Wow, it's like they don't realize the cap point has two entrances.
Well, three if you count the open roof.
But that's pretty much Scout, Soldier, and Demo access only.

It's not like this is even a good strategy, it just happened to work every now and again.

Or Engineer if you feel ballsy enough to sentry-jump your way over.

8:23 PM
If I saw no enemy spies, I'd do that.

Q: Are There Any Minecraft Mods That Are Easy To Install On Max

OcelotsSo Recently I Installed Optifine On My Minecraft Version 1.7.10... It Seems It's Impossible To Install Mods On My Mac Since My Late 2009 Mac Doesn't Have A Library Folder In Finder And I'm Really Angry Because Either My Dad Deleted The Folder Never To Be Seen Again Or My Stupid Computer Is To Old...

Or all they had to do was go to the point from the other side.
It was just like everyone got tunnel vision about destroying the sentry

I seriously can't remember the map, but I remember sentry-jumping to an area that was blocked during the first stage and it provides this near-perfect defense spot for the second point.
Any time I managed to do it, my team almost always secured a win.

I was pretty much preying on the behaviors of the people that played this specific server.

@Yuuki sentry jumping is bad :(

8:34 PM
@badp Sentry jumping hurts. And is very, very hard.

not really
you have a dispenser and a rescue ranger

Oh, this was back before Rescue Rangers.

now, back when the Eureka Effect wasn't shit, you had a very very nice tradeoff for sentry jumping
if you aren't aware, you couldn't move buildings at all, but you could do a three second taunt that basically respawned you
so, instead of waiting for dispensers or scourging the map for ammo boxes, you could taunt, take your level 3 teleporter and you're back on the front with 200 metal
I made that tradeoff every single time

Q: Minecraft crashes on mac osx

TheIdiotGamer99Minecraft crashes on mac osx every time I put a sign. When i put it down, it just says "Awaiting Approval" on all four lines. Then, 20-30 seconds later, the game crashes.

The Eureka Effect was amazing for me.
So they completely and utterly destroyed it forever.

8:36 PM
I'm guessing that they had to rebalance the effect because of the Rescue Ranger?

The Rescue Ranger couldn't move buildings either if you had the Eureka Effect
You could use it anyway to repair buildings from afar
say, in the trip between your teleporter and your sentry

I haven't played since around the time the DX3 items came out

It was the best, but you had to give up on now-much-easier-but-still-map-breaking sentry jumping
And what is the Eureka Effect now? Possibly just the single worst item in the game.

@badp Wait, huh? Rescue Ranger is a primary slot, right? Why would that keep you from sentry-jumping?

@Yuuki no, it's shotgun slot.

8:39 PM
@badp And Wrangler was/is pistol slot, right?

@Yuuki Yes.

Then I'm not seeing Rescue Ranger preventing you from sentry jumping.

It just didn't activate its building teleporting effect.
You could right click on buildings all night long and they wouldn't warp, because Eureka Effect engineers couldn't move buildings.

Just destroy your sentry then rebuild it. Sure, sentry jumping is more annoying that but not un-doable. Besides that's how I did it for that one map.

@Yuuki It puts you somewhere spies can't reach

8:42 PM
@badp The only time I ever used sentry jumping was to reach an area was almost definitely intended for offense use.

The whole point of sentry jumping is to set up place someplace an engineer can't otherwise reach
and if an engie can't make it, a spy can't make it

@badp Well, you could reach this point as an Engineer on defense. It was just friggin' hard. And you'd be better off trying to set up somewhere else.

until of course you put up teleporters
I still think it's a dick move, and you're welcome to disagree
I'll just go to your spawn, sap and shoot your teleporter and wait for a sniper to accidentally your head and the rest of the team to do the rest
and if the rest of the plan doesn't work, well, you'll have to sentry jump again to restock your sentry

I seriously can't remember the name of this map...

Maybe the thumbs help

8:45 PM
@badp Oh, that place was a one-off. If I didn't managed by the time offense pushed the first point or it got destroyed, I'm not trying again.
It was a three-stage Payload map, I know that.

@Yuuki Was it bright or dark?

@badp Bright.

(desert or mountain setting)

Desert, I think.

8:46 PM
This one?
(Hoodoo)

No, I don't think it was Hoodoo.

Then it has to be Gold Rush

@Yuuki Ask on the site.

Unless it wasn't a stock map at all

@badp It might not have been a stock map, but I played it so many times on so many different servers.

8:48 PM
ctf_whatchacallit

I remember that it was a straight line push up to the first point, defense had a small building next to the first point to defend from.

@Yuuki That's Gold Rush.

Odd. The images don't look familiar.

This is stage 1
The picture above is stage 3

Yeah, that's it. Weird.

8:50 PM
now I have no idea where you're talking about

Anyways, there's that one ledge that opens into the courtyard and is blocked off by a metal gate during the first stage.

Red engineer setting up in the "attic" above the final stretch?
@Yuuki oh, that one?
How would you reach that without sentry jumping?

@badp Running through the corridor and hoping you don't die from bullet spam (this is during second stage).

@Yuuki ...but the door is closed?

@badp Well, you don't reach that point without sentry jumping in the first stage.
But I'd hardly call it inaccessible to spies.
Because by the time building a defensive position in that area is actually useful, it's the second stage and anyone can reach it.
The entire point of setting up there was just giving up on the first point and hoping to god that your team knows what you're doing and sets up for the second stage.

8:55 PM
You mean here right? Yellow "arrow"

Yep.

IMHO This one is a much better place to set up, mostly because you deny that room to the enemy and that's pretty much the best place Blu can setup
Holding it though is not easy
No sentry jumping required! But again losing teleporters ruins your day

@badp Wait, BLU?

@Yuuki yes, Blu.

I'm talking about defense.

8:58 PM
Yeah
If you build there as Red, Blu can't put a teleporter there
Blu can't push any further than that
I know what Payload is.

In my experience, the attic is more easily taken than that ledge.
Just drop down in the mini-gorge and sticky bomb your way to victory.

Yeah, but that's because the attic is more worth taking
also, I hope your team can kill the stationary demoman
although that's often not the case

On occasion, my team would have another Engie and the other guy would take the attic. Game was pretty much guaranteed if that happened.

An effective way to combat demospam is to take out your wrangler and shoot a rocket on the ground
This sends all the stickies flying - true - but they're flying off your sentry

The two spots provide almost perfect overwatch for each other.
Attic sentry can guard the stairs up to the ledge and the ledge can take care of the mini-gorge.

9:02 PM
btw if you're looking forward to get back to TF2, Stop That Tank is a fun mod
It's payload, but instead of the cart you have a tank with a large yet finite amount of health.
The tank can't be stopped or hastened; if it makes it to the end of the track Blu wins.

I'd have to get Internet access to my desktop before I can get back into TF2.

If/when the tank gets destroyed, Blu spawns an MvM-style player-controlled giant
Anything from a giant medic who kritzes every 8 seconds but can't overheal to a Nuke Demoman who shoots once every few seconds, but deals MASSIVE damage to a Giant Engineer who can set up a teleporter exit that acts as a new spawn point for his team
Also, a timer of 3 minutes starts and the game becomes attack/defend
Blu pushes forward with the giant, Red tries to take the giant down
If/when the giant goes down any Blu player can take the bomb and try to cap

I do like myself some hybrid gameplay...

Oh, and the mod works on payload race maps too. :-}

I sorta wanna see a map where it's ostensibly payload, but the path is blocked off by gates that you have to capture control points to open.

9:07 PM
It's a little bit different, but yes, it means one giant per team.

IT ARRIVED
It's boxes all the way down!
And finally, what I bought, since I know you all care:

Netrunner?

@Batophobia Yes sir.

New MTG?

@Batophobia Well, it is a card game, but it's very different from magic.

9:20 PM
Wikipedia tells me it is made by the same guy
Is the android game similar to it?

@Batophobia The original NEtrunner was. This is a "remake" made by FFG.
well remake probably isn't the best word, hence the " ", but it's a new game based off of the original NEtrunner.
IT's a lot of fun.

looks interesting

It is.

@Wipqozn That won't last long.

@Frank It'll last longer now that I've removed @FAE.
@AlejandraMoreno That's no fun at all.

@Wipqozn Eh. @GraceNote will reverse it soon enough.

of course it is, give it a chance

I can't believe how much this meme exploded when the election started.
@AlejandraMoreno In the Game of Bridge Ownership, you either remove or be removed. Take no prisoners.

Yea, when poeple expected you to become mod they all wanted their chance.

@Arperum I know! I just assume it's a sign of affection.

thats is very radical,,,lol

@Wipqozn Right now I'd say hatred has more chance, what with you non-Wipqalot gravatar and all that.

@Arperum Yeah, I knew my gravatar changing wouldn't go over well.
I am tempted to switch to the Turtle Chef picture @LessPop_MoreFizz posted though.
In fact if I had saw that before I finished up FMAB I probably would have.
But alas, the puppet was too slow.

I just got to lvl 50 hardcore with a seasonal character. ANd I keep getting legendary quivers. Wich is good, since I'm a demon hunter.
