Lesson learned. minecraft 1.8 handles rapid-fire fireworks a helluva lot less well than 1.7.X did.

@Arperum I've been using them as cannon ammo. Load them in a dispencer, have them fire out into a 4 block long stream of water (no longer!) with a ceiling right above the water, and they fly off more-or-less straight.

And you can customize the explosion! :D

@Arperum I should note that you can use a stream of water longer than 4 blocks, and the fireworks will fly MUCH further. unfortunately it's beyond the entity/particle effects draw distance.

@TrentHawkins I can't even go and test it out in creative because I'm at work for ~7-8 hours

Fuse time = 2 seems to be the sweet spot for distance.

@Arperum yeah, halfslab - but anything that will stop water and allow fireworks to pass through will work. I use halfslab because you can stick a trap door on the end of it for looks.

- Allocate an entire afternoon to this (I needed 7 hours, but I'm terribad)

- reddit.com/r/buildapc is your friend: make a build ready post to make sure you're not overlooking anything obvious

- logicalincrements.com provides great build foundations

- pcpartpicker.com checks that there are no obvious problems with your build

- You really don't have to get a custom cooler

- Use the savings from not getting a custom cooler into upgrading your PSU, or your SSD

- This video is a rather nice step-by-step guide

A custom cooler is really only necessary when you want to do some serious overclocking, or want a super quiet PC.

@badp I was looking at that auto build PC link on /r/buildapc as well. Was considering using it as a starting base.

@MBraedley I have no intention of overclocking. I would like a quiet PC though.

@MBraedley I have a stock cooler, my case fans are always on and it's still super quiet. At least compared to my previous 70 dB laptop.

If quiet is the only reason I really need a custom fan then I'd just wait until I spent a few weeks with my PC first, then look into getting a custom cooler.

I just feel like you aren't getting enough of a performance increase for the money after about $1000. I haven't done a full build in a long time though, so take that with a grain of salt.

@OrigamiRobot You might want a little extra power for things like 2k/4k monitors/Oculus, but yeah, I play games in a 720p window usually and it's kinda overkill. Maybe when I get my second monitor...

Like, you can spend $1000 and get a machine that will last 4 years, or spent $1500 and get a machine that will last 5 years. (I'm just making up numbers here to clarify what I'm talking about)

But the machine you'd build 5 years later could be a lot better than the machine you'd build 4 years later.

@OrigamiRobot: Part of that $1500 is that I'm considering getting two monitors when I buy it.

There's a 256GB for $100 today. It's really tempting.

That said the games for it will be a little simpler graphically I suppose.
