even had a button to run said process
doctors and nurses within the NHS are seriously IT illiterate

This person seems confused about the concept of protocols and products. We happened to invent a protocol about 10 years ago, and produced an open source implementation. He is now complaining that bugs in Apple's implementation of that protocol is our fault and we should fix it.

interesting argument

@ickleislands I'm potentially starting out in IT healthcare soon. Hooray.

did you manage to get a full 30 seconds of laughter off before responding to him?
I'm glad I don't work "in" IT healthcare

@ickleislands Much banter has been exchanged (our support team added it to our tracker for some reason)

4:02 PM
I work for a company that makes software that targets said market though

@ickleislands It's not really "in" I guess
@ickleislands We could be targeting consumers and IT pros. Sounds like fun!

Working "in" Healthcare IT, especially a job in this country, is not for somebody who can do the job
You simply wouldn't fit in, if you know what I mean

I had one defect filed when I worked in a consumer electronics company where they said "device does not function if you jam a brick in it"
I politely responded with a fix of "remove brick"

user15026
@agent86 O.o

<certain large healthcare organisation> in the UK staffs it's internal IT with the most undereducated people possible
@agent86 lol

4:04 PM
@agent86 That is wonderful

I have a weekly argument with our development team along the lines of "why did the user do that?" "because you allowed them to..."
It's getting better, it used to be daily

Ah, this guy's getting more and more confused. Wonderful.

@QAdley as long as he doesn't try the line "I've worked in IT, I know what I'm talking about"

@ickleislands He's a musician

Well I've worked in music, but I don't know what he's talking about.

4:09 PM
@agent86 oof

Wow, this app he's using (not ours) links to its own website with the text Out of Web site! Web site
I don't know why but I'm doubled up with laughter at that. One of those days.

@IanPugsley yep, them's a lot of games!

@Wipqozn Only the best for you guys

4:13 PM
@UQAllulloo !!!

got you beat by $8!
(that said it's pretty much a worthless score)
(actually the value is €1,606.47 aka $2,009.86)
I don't think I've actually spent a tenth of that

I'm still not sure if people on Arqade are trolling me or not

@QAdp I think in some cases it counts bundles + the individual games. for instance, "counter strike deleted scenes" is worth $99 since it comes in the valve bundle.

Like they automatically try to find a way to disagree with me rather than understand what I'm saying

I think in yours, master levels of doom 2 is $35, although that's the price for the id bundle that contains it.

4:17 PM
@agent86 Well you gotta value it somehow

user15026
@ickleislands Example?

@QAdp no you!
:5226545 f yourself!

Q: Merge request [rushing] -> [starcraft-2]

ickleislandsAs part of the Arqade clean up can we get rushing (9 questions, all currently tagged starcraft-2) merged into starcraft-2 please? I know rushing is not a starcraft-2 specific term, however it is currently only used on starcraft-2 questions. Vote to burn please! Since people aren't able to read...

user15026
@agent86 :(

@agent86 Individual games without that bit is 58,95 € and the bundle's 34,99 €

user15026
4:19 PM
@ickleislands I don't think the tag needs a merge, I think it just needs to be removed.

The guidelines in the clean up say request a merge
I'm only doing what the community has told me to do
So why is the community disagreeing?
if I understand correctly, merging results in the tag being essentially deleted as it has no questions left on it, while not 'updating' the posts in a way that they appear on the front page
I'm sure somebody can confirm/deny that
@AshleyNunn in fact, the exact same thing happened here: meta.gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/4976/…
So it's not like it's a one off
so could somebody clarify what I'm meant to be doing?

user15026
I have no idea why people are disagreeing.

user15026
I personally don't care how it gets done.

@ickleislands I've had my merge requests downvoted too, and I'm not sure why, there's no dispute that they should be removed

yawn

4:26 PM
sigh

@AshleyNunn Lots of people do - most notably those that look at the front page
fffthrrrrrrrppp

@ickleislands yes

user15026
I wonder if people misunderstand how merges work? Like they assume that then forever that tag will get retagged as whatever it was merged to?

user15026
@QAdley yeah, I know. I am just saying that I don't.

@QAdp Am I doing the right thing by raising posts on meta or is there another method I should use?

4:28 PM
@ickleislands Nah, I prefer slapping tags to questions :P

@AshleyNunn Yes, that's exactly what it is.
People confuse Merges with Synonyms.

@QAdp well provided you can see through the lack of vision of the masses and not get involved in any attempts to argue over individual games on something completely off topic then win win

Which is an entirely reasonable mix-up to make.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Well most merge requests become synonyms too, so I can understand why there'd be confusion

@QAdp This too.

Q: Can't connent to servers?

MagullaI cant play online, I can only play solo. I have bought Minecraft so it should work fine, but when I try to connect to a server it says: Internal client error: java.net.UnknownHostException: session.minecraft.net I have tried over 20 different servers and i says the same thing to every single ...

user15026
I suspect that people don't want the rushing tag to be permanently tied to Starcraft, hence the downvotes

Take that @fluttershy! Yahtzee didn't like that game you really liked.

So it's a lack of clarity in my initial post?

Checkmate.

Most of these merge requests would be very bad synonyms, so there's an instinctive NO WAIT DON'T DO THAT.

user15026
4:30 PM
@ickleislands No, I think it is just people not understanding, at the core, what a merge actually does

@ickleislands No, it's a lack of clarity in SE terminology.

well I've found even if I'm explaining the point of the question that people still jump towards thinking it's a synonym request

user15026
@ickleislands It's not you - people just don't get the system

ok so I have it right in that it's preferred to spamming updates on questions? ;)

4:31 PM
when we merge tags, creating the synonym is an option one click away - but it's that, an option

@ickleislands Yeah.

@QAdp Which, it appears, is off by default?

wasn't there a freehand circles tag?

@ickleislands I think it is

@ickleislands I think there is on MSO

4:33 PM
@QAdp that's exactly how I expected it would work

user15026
So many pictures XD

@QAdp and no updates on the first page

yeah, history is effectively rewritten
> updating post history, 21 rows affected

user15026
@ickleislands Right. That's how it works. Not viable for every case, but can be useful.

4:34 PM
@QAdp Actually, remapping of faves/ignores could be an issue with this approach

@AshleyNunn I have several of these up on meta already, and there's quite a few more

@QAdley The whole point of the effort is that you wouldn't clean up tags people would fave/ignore in the first place isn't it?

user15026
@ickleislands That may be, but I am just saying, you can't solve every problem with a merge

@QAdp Guess not

of course not
you can solve enough for everybody to stop immediately thinking it's a synonym though

4:36 PM
that said I do check that box more often than not

back to my original sigh then :p

user15026
@ickleislands I dont see how merging things = people not thinking it is a synonym - this doesnt educate people on how the system works, it just makes the system work, if that makes sense

it's usually pretty rare to have a merge that's not also a synonym.

@AnnaLear ...except for all our tag cleanups

@QAdley Which is uncommon.

4:38 PM
@QAdley yeah, you guys are a special case :)

user15026
@QAdley Gaming is generally an unusual beast

@AshleyNunn I agree there are other options, I'm just pointing out the ones that probably should have it

@Wipqozn Not right now!

user15026
@ickleislands Which I have no problem with?

@AnnaLear I've been meaning to ask. Who is that human in your picture?

user15026
4:39 PM
@Wipqozn Probably someone she hired to be the human face of the cat organization

@AshleyNunn I thought it may have been her human servant, but your theory also makes sense.

@Wipqozn It's a human who's my eyes, ears, and opposable thumbs in day-to-day life. As for the name... who knows? Who cares?

@AnnaLear Excellent, I was right. It's your human servant.

@Wipqozn More like puppet, but yes.

@GnomeSlicE Nigerian prince scam?
Nigerian scams (also called Nigerian 419 scams), are a type of advance fee fraud and one of the most common types of confidence frauds in which the victim is defrauded for monetary gain. There are many variations on this type of scam, including advance fee fraud, Nigerian Letter Fifo's Fraud, Spanish Prisoner Scam, black money scam, or Detroit/Buffalo scam. The number "419" refers to the article of the Nigerian Criminal Code dealing with fraud. While the scam is not limited to Nigeria, the nation has become associated with this fraud and it has earned an unenviable reputation for being ...

damn it. Grabbed the wrong link, and probably too late now.
Was just going to brag about beating your comment by a few seconds.

@Wipqozn I didn't bother finishing mine since you posted one while I was still writing.

@GnomeSlicE I win. tortoise shades

It's not a contest...

4:47 PM
@GnomeSlicE Yes it is.
Everything is a contest.

Everything's a contest because that's all @Wipqozn can win at.

@fbueckert So what you're saying is I'm better than other people? Because that's what I'm reading.

...Huh?

@Wipqozn I'm saying you fail at life. :P

@GnomeSlicE Someone hasn't updated timthumb in awhile.

I think I know what bug they are talking about, and believe it was fixed well over a year ago now.

I dunno, the meta thread was opened yesterday.

@GnomeSlicE: You do know this is at the top of the starred list, right?

@Wipqozn No, didn't even notice.
Ah fuck, I need to change my password... I use the same password EVERYWHERE

@GnomeSlicE Luckily I used my "I don't care" passwords.

Q: How close is GTA4 compared to the New York City?

RodrigoLet's try again. I played GTA4. So I know a lot of places in game. Than, some times, I am watching a movie and I know some places because I have see it in game. Ok, there aren't all real places in the game, but, is correct to say that all places in the game have their equivalent in real life? If...

@fbueckert Voted to close, wtf.

@GnomeSlicE It could still be salvaged. But, yeah, closed is a transitive state.
