@agent86 We'll call it the PEN 15 CLUB!

Brother Bobby, Sister Maggie, Robo-Baby, Demon Baby, Ghost Baby, Rainbow Baby, Abel, ...

/instantly transported back to 1997

user30
Yeah, I think I need to read a guide or something

@tiddy Well, that's mature.

I referenced this fact

6:01 PM
@IanPugsley ...cube of meat ×2, steven, etc.

@QAdp the meat thing is an orbiting thing which I think the wiki classifies as different from a familiar

@LessPop_MoreFizz Clearly, you were using its grenade function while you were trying to write, which is the improper way to use the grenade function.

Wannabe web lawyers talk to me: reddit.com/r/technology/comments/vz290/…
What DOES IT MEAN

@murgatroid99 One meat thing orbits you damaging things in the way. Two meat things give you a head that orbits you and shoots with you. Three meat things give you a smaller red guy that charges at enemies. Four meat things probably just are a complete ally but I never really got that far

@QAdp 4xMeat is just 3xMeat but bigger and significantly stronger

6:05 PM
@tiddy Means nothing to us Americans.
For Euros, there's going to be a large amount of legal wrangling over the next few months to hammer out exactly what it means. If license are transferrable, what about the associated goods? If I sell my copy of WoW, is Blizzard obligated to give you my characters? Is Steam obligated to establish some sort of infrastructure for the transfer of games piecemeal? Or is simply allowing the wholesale reselling of accounts as a bundled entity sufficient?

I'm aware of my US chains, but hopefully this will set some kind of precedent
thanks

@tiddy There is no such thing as precedent going across international boundaries like that.
Our legal systems are discrete and separate. Where they intertwine, it is because of specific stipulation by treaty.

@LessPop_MoreFizz That doesn't stop Hollywood from acting as if US law applies everywhere.

user30
bbbbasaaaaaaaahhhhhhh

@LessPop_MoreFizz Or coincidence/intentional emulation

6:09 PM
The only time that things like this spillover is when it becomes a cost savings for the company to do so, such as in the case of physical goods built to meet standards in one region.

Yeah I was just about to reference the US extraditing a British citizen for breaking american lawl

Because it is often cheaper to build 200 of a slightly more expensive widget than it is to build 100 of two separate ones.

user30
He broke British law, as well, but the CPS decided against prosecuting.

@tiddy non-US Citizens can still break US laws and be prosecuted for them

Q: Skyrim: Do I need to perk up my smithing to get advanced weapon/armor improving when I have these awesomely enchanted trinkets or smithing?

oscilatingcretinI've enchanted a ring, necklace, and apron to each give me a 20% bonus to smithing which is already at 100. On top of that, I have some blacksmith elixirs that give a 50% smithing bonus. Using all these items at the smithing wheel, I've been able to improve my ebony greatword and war hammer to ...

6:10 PM
@tiddy I was referencing Megaupload.

Q: What is the highest critical chance and damage that is possible?

newuserIs it possible to get 100% critical chance (without sharp shooter) and how high can my critical damage get? Please explain the skills/gear needed.

Gotcha

@fbueckert Very different circumstances. Very very different circumstances.

@ThomasMcDonald Actually, a very similar website went to court, and was found to be innocent.

user30

@ThomasMcDonald it means you've managed to die to one of the easiest bosses in the game ;)

user30
I went in with half a heart

> 87. Moreover, a copyright holder such as Oracle is entitled, in the event of the resale of a user licence entailing the resale of a copy of a computer program downloaded from his website, to ensure by all technical means at his disposal that the copy is made unusable.
Yeah, this ruling is 100% meaningless.

@ThomasMcDonald Yeah, that sucks
You could've frozen them with mom's pad though

All it means is you can resell your copy of photoshop that doesn't activate through any sort of online service, but you'll have to burn it to CD and deliver it yourself.
@fbueckert Then you're even more wrong if you reference megaupload. Because Megaupload was charged with a variety of criminal acts which occurred entirely on US soil.

6:13 PM
So you can re-sell license, but you can't re-use it

Just because the individual arrested happened to be physically out of the US does not make him not culpable for his actions.

Essentially making you a middleman

user30
@QAdp I didn't know what it did.

Big whoop :(

@tiddy Not even that.

6:14 PM
@ThomasMcDonald It should freeze everybody temporarily

More accurately, you can resell your software, but since Steam is under no obligation to help you actually hand it over, and indeed, since Steam is encouraged to actively sabotage you from doing so, the only way to do so is to sell your entire Steam account.
Which... it's nice to have legal endorsement for I guess, but... meh.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Really? The US government's case is falling apart. Their warrants were deemed illegal last week.

user30
@QAdp ffs.

@fbueckert I haven't followed it too closely. It's entirely possible that they have a weak/bad case and that they'll lose in court. That's what courts are for. But it is decidedly not the case that they were attempting to enforce US law overseas. The specifics of the original indictment were very clear in accusing them of a variety of infringing actions that occurred entirely within the US.

@LessPop_MoreFizz If somebody in the US uploads or downloads something to servers in non-US soil on a non-US-run company... that's only very barely US soil and only makes me want to filter out US ip's from servers I run :P

6:16 PM
@fbueckert He forgot the word "alleged" - I don't think he was trying to make a point about the Megaupload case

or maybe I've got it wrong

@IanPugsley Alleged is implied by charged with. :P

user30
er

user30
bobs rotten head?

@LessPop_MoreFizz ah true

6:17 PM
They put all the items and their properties and descriptions in one page. It's retarded but eh.

@LessPop_MoreFizz So you're saying a company without a physical presence in the US is to be held liable for US laws?

@ThomasMcDonald Bob's Rotten Head is a good re-usable bomb, and currently is bugged to automatically grant rewards from the Fortune Teller

To my knowledge, nothing of theirs was located on US soil.

@IanPugsley Thomas also doesn't have WotL hence no Fortune Teller

user30
@IanPugsley oh cool

6:18 PM
@QAdp well nevermind then

user30
@QAdp aaaaaaartghgh Wikia.

I know right?

@fbueckert That's not what was alleged in the indictment.
The indictment alleged that a great deal of illegal data was being stored on servers in Virginia.

@LessPop_MoreFizz The indictment is alleging copyright infringement by US companies. If Megaupload is not located in the US, why should it be held to those laws?
@LessPop_MoreFizz Hrm.

@fbueckert MegaUpload had employees in the US. Was doing business in the US. Was laundering money through a variety of other US holdings.

6:20 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz What happened to innocent until proven guilty?

@fbueckert If this guy decides to limit his scope, the only legendary/set item that gives crit chance to a non-standard slot is Inna's Glory (pants) at 1%

@fbueckert Um... that's why there's a trial?

@OrigamiRobot Yeah, I saw that. I doubt that's what he's looking for, but hey, if he is, there you go. Ready-made question for your answer!

@fbueckert You can insert 'alleged' into every statement I'd make if you like.
I thought it was fairly clear that I'm talking about what they're being charged with.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I'm in semantic mode; sorry, was taking at face value.

6:22 PM
@fbueckert He also wants crit damage, which I do not have ready

Honestly I don't like the Dot Com guy, but this thing is doing more harm than good to the internet

@LessPop_MoreFizz What I don't like is how heavy-handed the US is being, trying to placate Hollywood after the anti-SOPA fiasco.
I don't believe it was a coincidence that Dotcom was raided the day after the bill failed.

I'm not even thinking about the stuff people put on MegaUpload, or the very concept of locker websites

US are bullies
thems the breaks

The more people use bittorrent the better

6:24 PM
@fbueckert You'd believe wrong. An indictment of that size, with multiple extraditions and seizures, is the result of months, or even years of investigation and diplomacy.

Still, being reminded that one day you can have your website, your servers and your data taken offline for months and be brought to Whereverthefuckinstan because somebody uploaded the wrong thing to the wrong place while you were sleeping... not cool

@LessPop_MoreFizz If they spend that much time building the case, why is it falling apart on them?
Their warrants were deemed illegal.

@tiddy Everyone is a bully

I guess US is the biggest :(

The extradition failed because the judge wouldn't rubberstamp it and wanted them to show cause.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if the government throws in the towel.

6:26 PM
@tiddy Everyone does at least as much as they think they can get away with.

so, this is my first attempt with eve vs mom. I'm not feeling ready at all

@fbueckert Because federal prosecutors often fuck up. It happens. See also: Roger Clemens. It doesn't mean that they overnighted a massive prosecution to make some guy in LA happy.

Can you play Binding of Isaac without a mouse? Like using WASD + arrow keys for the 2 sticks?

@StrixVaria I don't think you can play it WITH a mouse.

@GnomeSlicE Oh. It's been a while.

6:28 PM
@StrixVaria That's the way the game is meant to be played, yes
You can also shoot by clicking on the window with the mouse but...

@QAdp I'm pretty sure this is what I was doing.
I played it for all of 15 minutes before stopping, though.

I can see why
Reading comprehension fail!

@LessPop_MoreFizz This case isn't about a single fuck up. It's about a clusterfuck.
If you're going overseas to try to enforce your laws, make sure your ducks are in order.

@fbueckert Yeah, so was the Clemens case. I did say often.

user30
Playing Isaac with the sounds of the new Simian Mobile Disco album is fun

6:30 PM
This was rushed. No other way to explain the giant amount of mistakes and, "Oh, you want us to show cause? Too bad, won't do it."
As a sidenote, yay, I cast my first close vote!

Mom is down!
Two more levels. Sigh

@QAdp urmom is down.

user30
I'm looking right kitted out now

user30
What does a sword room mean?

You can only enter with full health. You touch the item in the middle, three waves of baddies attack you. When it's done you can leave

user30
6:35 PM
Sounds like fun.

You can't bomb your way out but if you have a means of teleportation then use it

user30
The dwarf fortress kind of fun.

Typically it's not worth it for regular chests
HEALTH DOWN PILL? COME ON

@QAdp The easiest solution is to not take pills...

or play as Cain
at least I could farm the blood donation machine

6:38 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz Sorry. The MPAA tends to be a sore spot with me. I get really passionate about it.

Q: What to do when a user's profile is advertising websites that are 'off-topic'

EnderSo... I found a user and her profile is basically a gold farmers ad for diablo 3 and WoW. What can I do about this?

@Lazers ...Nothing...

@GnomeSlicE By 'off-topic' he means outright spam.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Nobody forces you to look at profiles, though.

@GnomeSlicE No, but any user that has something like that in their profile is extremely unlikely to provide anything of value to the site.

6:45 PM
@GnomeSlicE Rather than typing out a response to the same argument twice:
@JQAn I have to disagree to a point. Keep in mind that a common tactic these sites use is trying to 'piggyback' on sites like this one to leave their links up someplace that Google will index in hopes of getting a little bit more of that magical Search Engine Juice that the SE Network has so much of. For example, I suspect this user is the one in question. The only question asked is entirely worthless, and the profile is nothing but spam. — LessPop_MoreFizz 28 secs ago

@LessPop_MoreFizz Links in the profile for sub-2k or something users are nofollow

This stuff is harmful to the internet, and we should probably not tolerate it. And no, there is no slippery slope argument here, this shit is really really really obvious.
@MadScientist Good start.

But I'd still delete such a profile if I saw it

@LessPop_MoreFizz Yeah, it really is now that I look at the profile.
But we can't just delete the profile can we...

user30

6:46 PM
...?

@GnomeSlicE Why not?

@LessPopMoreFizz So far, you have beat me to every point I would make on this subject.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Can you prove it?

user2334

user2334
If they're spamming in the profile, they're almost certainly spamming on the site. Don't need to worry about the profile to delete spammers

6:47 PM
@MarkTrapp Hadn't seen that, delete away.

A profile that doesn't contain any posts that are not deleted as spam and contains links to sites that are obviously spam can be safely deleted IMHO.
Often nobody will ever see that profile if no post is connected to it, so it'll just rot an be forgotten, though

@MadScientist Generally, spam profiles are one-shots, too. They'll ask a single question, and get banned/deleted/whathaveyou. Since it's automated, they don't care.

@MarkTrapp Deleted that post, should have been nuked outright

user2334
That's why I'm not fan of sanitizing spam content. Makes is much less obvious what's happening and they stay around longer

@MarkTrapp And this is why I keep telling people not to edit out spam or offensive content when you flag shit as spam or offensive.
3

6:50 PM
@fbueckert If the community handles it, nothing happens with the profile. Suspending is too much effort for spam, they get just destroyed if a mod sees it

user2334
@LessPop_MoreFizz Brofist

@MarkTrapp Boom.

@MarkTrapp I agree with that, I posted about that on meta a while back, when I encountered users editing out the spam, forcing me to view the revisions for every possible spam post I wanted to flag

@MadScientist That's good. Too bad you can automate creating accounts, but you can't automate killing them.

@MadScientist Is it better not to revise a badly worded question if it may be spam?

6:53 PM
@fbueckert Spam is actually very easy if you're a mod. The hard part as a mod is the decision what to do, in the case of spam that is very easy. And from then it's just a few clicks to the "destroy" button that deletes the user along with everything he ever posted.

user2334
And then leaves a flaming bag of poo on their doorstep.

user2334
Also, salts their fields.

@Alok If it's garbage anyway, you might as well just treat it like garbage. There's no point in making it pretty before you throw it away.

@MadScientist I meant automated as in, "Doesn't require human intervention"
Sorry, should have specified.

@LessPop_MoreFizz Okay, I get that, but some people just like advertising their shit when they post serious content and don't realize it's unacceptable here.

6:55 PM
We need to design an AI that gets pleasure from deleting and destroying spam users.

@GnomeSlicE It's usually pretty easy to tell the difference.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I agree with that :). But in this case, iirc I saw a question in badly worded English (about some WoW raid boss) - I edited it for legibility; but also in the revision history that user had posted a couple of spam links that someone else edited out

If you can't, I begin to distrust your reading comprehension, and/or humanity.

@LessPop_MoreFizz You mean distrust?

You're talking about the difference between (admittedly stupid) human beings, and robots that would fail a Turing test being administered by Lenny from Of Mice and Men.

6:55 PM
Yeah, you can usually tell.

@GnomeSlicE Such as mbsurfer?

@GnomeSlicE Yes.

user30
Er

user30
I now appear to be a demon.

@fbueckert I dunno? Maybe? All I'm saying is that we've had some people post perfectly fine questions or answers and throw an advert link in at the end that can just be removed.

6:57 PM
@GnomeSlicE This user "answered" the question by posting links to his crappy Android/IPhone knockoff of a minigame.

@GnomeSlicE You're trying to make a slippery slope argument where it just isn't valid. This is a clear and easily distinguished difference between the two.

user30
oh wow

user30
dat shit cray

I'm of the opinion that if a user posts a link answer, or adds an unrelated link to an actual answer, they should be destroyed.

@LessPop_MoreFizz ...I'm not arguing at all...

6:59 PM
The only reason they added their answer is to advertise their link. Therefore, they can die.

You said something about never editing out spam, but there are certain situations where that's fine...

@ThomasMcDonald even the bomb is sad

@GnomeSlicE Such as a good answer with an unrelated link?

@fbueckert I see 0 answers on his profile so...
@fbueckert Exactly.

@GnomeSlicE They were both flagged as spam.
@GnomeSlicE If a user posts an unrelated link, it renders his entire answer moot.

7:00 PM
Womb here I come!

@fbueckert Not if you remove the link.

@GnomeSlicE So we should keep answers, and therefore their users, when their only contribution is spam?

Just forget it.

@fbueckert I'm fine with this approach if its standard policy; but I don't see anything to that effect (nuking valid ques/answers when accompanied by spam links)

This clearly isn't going anywhere.

7:01 PM
Just copy part of the post in question and check if that comes from somewhere else. A common spam tactic is to copy a post about the topic from any site and just insert a spam link there.

Someone posts an answer about Diablo III, let's say. It's a great answer, but at the end they put something like 'check out my blog about diablo 3!' and post a link.

user30
That Gurdy character seems to be a bit of a tosser

@GnomeSlicE Kill it.

Remove the link, explain why it's inappropriate, and the answer is fine.

Kill it fast, with prejudice.

7:02 PM
@fbueckert The link, you mean.

@MadScientist Hmm never thought of that - bah, more work to deal with loonies :(

@GnomeSlicE That basically never happens.

@GnomeSlicE No, the user.

You'd like to think that it does, but it really. doesn't. ever. happen.

user30
Aw, I lost my awesome demon laser beam. :(

7:03 PM
Chances are extremely good that the entire blog is scraped from somewhere else.

@LessPop_MoreFizz I never said it happens regularly. Just trying to point out a situation where deletion is unnecessary, and editing would be appropriate.
@fbueckert The content of the linked blog is irrelevant.

@GnomeSlicE Pointing out a contrived situation isn't really helpful.

@GnomeSlicE And if the content posted was also scraped from elsewhere?

I hate how the Womb is often easier than the Depths

@LessPop_MoreFizz It's happened before, I'm sure... people try to advertise themselves on forums when they help people out, particularly with gaming blogs.
This isn't a forum, most new users don't realize that.

7:05 PM
@GnomeSlicE The point is, if you see a spam link embedded in otherwise reasonable content, odds are that reasonable stuff was just copy-pasted from somewhere else

@MadScientist This.

Trascendence!

@MadScientist ...Huh. I suppose. Spam links are usually pretty easily identifiable though.
Anyway, not the point.
If someone from a REPUTABLE web content provider were to post a link or something, we'd just remove it.

@GnomeSlicE If it was a 1 rep user, I'd advocate of their user.
If they can't be bothered to read the FAQ, they probably have nothing of value to contribute.

@fbueckert I've never read the FAQ.

7:08 PM
@GnomeSlicE This explains everything! :P

And just look at me now!

But seriously. If a 1 rep user is posting a link, there's a 99% chance it's spam.

@ThomasMcDonald Pretty good soundtrack, no?

There's a reason new users can only add two links to their answers.

@BenBrocka @James Got a ruby dragon.

7:09 PM
In The Binding of Isaac.

user30
I dunno. Like I said, I'm listening to Unpatterns.

@ThomasMcDonald Ah.
The Binding of Isaac isn't casual enough for most people, it's pretty difficult in some places. Most people would probably enjoy something like Inferno+ more thoroughly.
I need to finish BoI. I found I was having to spend too much time to figure out what everything did.

Womb 2 with Eve amagaz

@Gnomeslice you should read the FAQ. You'll get a badge for it.

user2334
@QAdp please to be destroying this user for spam. The spam post was sanitized and deleted before the spam flags were resolved

7:13 PM
@MarkTrapp later

@QAdp Put down your goddamn game and moderate.

user2334
@QAdp You say later but it's already done! I'm so conflicted

A: How to defeat Diablo as a Demon Hunter?

Derek Long I hate kiting mobs so I decided to do it the tank way.

This answer has a video about Inferno Belial. Doesn't answer the question at all.
Flag as not an answer?

@fbueckert Its a forum post.
@fbueckert Yes.

user30
I dunno, BoI seems pretty casual to me

7:14 PM
@LessPop_MoreFizz How the hell do I get this badge?

user2334
@GnomeSlicE Click on every thing in the sidebar

user2334
And then wait n hours

@MarkTrapp I did...
Oh.
Well, there, happy now?

user2334
IF YOU READ THE FAQ YOU'D KNOW BADGES TAKE A WHILE TO COME I—nevermind

@ThomasMcDonald it gets hard at higher levels. The sheol and cathedral bosses are pretty brutal

user30
7:18 PM
It's hard enough now.

user30
I am right in thinking that once you die that's it?

user2334
There's also the whole you-can't-save-and-if-you-die-you-start-back-at-the-beginning-with-all-meaningful-progress-reset thing

user30
yar

@MarkTrapp except for item unlocks, which is very major progress

7:19 PM
@ThomasMcDonald Try this if BoI is too frustrating.
Similar thing, different style, easier.

user2334
@murgatroid99 Oh? I saw a few LPs and they seemed to lose all their items when they died

user2334
Was the main reason I stopped playing after 15 minutes

Look at that bad boy

@MarkTrapp right but when you accomplish things you unlock items that you can find in later playthroughs. Those items get better and better

user30
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Gurdy.

user2334
7:20 PM
@murgatroid99 Ah I see

@MarkTrapp That's really the progress in the game. I can play a dozen times and lose on every one, and it doesn't matter because if I unlock something because I could get it on any playthrough in the future
That sentence kind of got away from me, but you know what I mean

@MarkTrapp Yeah, I did that. Sometimes I just want you to see if you're checking :P

@ThomasMcDonald aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
worst boss in the game. Easy if you have some decent powerups and know how to read him, but ridiculous difficult otherwise

user2334
@QAdp I never leave a flag <puts on shades> flapping in the wind.

@ThomasMcDonald Yeah, that sucks

7:24 PM
and annoying because he's pretty much the only difficulty barrier in the entire game. If you can beat Gurdy, the rest of the game is pretty straightforward/easy

but it's mostly knowing his patterns and preventing the boilers (the thing that grow and shrink) from shooting. Piercing tears or bombs help a lot
Basically attack from the left, when the head goes in wait an instant then attack from the bottom

@Mana gurdy is not that hard compared to a lot of later bosses

by "attack from the left" btw I mean "just low enough so you can hit the boilers when they do come up"

user30
right, cheers

user30
Died like 3 times on him

7:25 PM
@QAdp pretty much exactly what I do

Health down pills! Just waiting for me to hit Q by accident

@murgatroid99 shrug it's not so much that, but once you become good enough at the game to beat him the rest of the game is linear difficulty.

@Fluttershy Not even tried yet.. I did end up with 3 solstice, 2 firework and 3 pearl dragons, one of which I left as an egg though :D

@Mana This guy is a huge pain: bindingofisaac.wikia.com/wiki/The_Bloat
for example

@murgatroid99 I haven't played the expansion yet

7:28 PM
@Mana there are a lot of really annoying bosses in it

@James Same here! =D

@Fluttershy Nice! :D

@murgatroid99 I don't think I've seen that boss yet... But I have dealt with Widow. And I hate him.

@Fluttershy it took me so long to get good at fighting widow

You know what I hate
when I reach Womb 2, clear the path to the boss just fine with full health

7:30 PM
@Fluttershy Also, I hate this guy: bindingofisaac.wikia.com/wiki/Mask_of_Infamy

then decide to clear my way to the Arcade room to get one more health up
and die just outisde that room
I hate that.

@murgatroid99 I haven't seen that one yet either.

@Fluttershy its second form is like one of those guys with shields in the front that runs at you and it is fast and I can never get a shot at its back
@QAdp how much full health did you have when you got to the boss?

@murgatroid99 Yikes... On a semi-related note: The Headless Horseman is my Kryptonite.

@murgatroid99 5

7:32 PM
@Fluttershy yeah, I keep getting it way before I have a good chance of killing it

So, I've been downloading a game through Steam for about half an hour.
It's gotten 1.9 Mb.
Nice.

@GnomeSlicE What game?

@QAdp I would say just go for the boss. Once you learn its patterns mom's heart is pretty easy to kill with minimal damage

@murgatroid99 I know but some of those spawned enemies and the second stage can still hurt me

@QAdp I usually find that it's not bad because it only spawns 4.

7:35 PM
So, rumor has it the Steam Summer sales will start on July 12th...

user15026
@Fluttershy Oh dear. prepares her wallet

@murgatroid99 I know, I've beaten that heart in the past already. It's just, it was smooth sailing to the boss room
I guess I lost focus midway because I had to run a couple errands around the house and that screwed me

user30
chub

@QAdp it gets more fun when you start fighting It Lives, which is the same but also spawns low level bosses

@murgatroid99 but he doesn't retract, right?
eyes are never fun though

7:38 PM
@QAdp no, It Lives retracts like the heart does

I guess it's just as vulnerable to seeding bombs as the Heart is then
(dropping bombs as soon as you clear the two enemies to damage both the next wave of enemies and the heart)

@QAdp I guess so. I pretty much never use bombs on bosses

Bombs are like the easiest thing to do on the Heart. It's incredibly predictable

Q: How to kill Janissaries

DavidYellIs there an efficient way to tackle these guys? I've tried quite a few things and have resorted to running away and hitting them with throwing knives or bombs. I can't seem to find the tutorial on how to beat them. http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Janissaries
